My Day as an Obama Volunteer 1: Oh, what a feeling!

I volunteered all day on November 4th, election day. Afterwards, I wished I had done more! Never mind that the actual value I contributed in the big picture was probably quite small.

For the first time I experienced the feeling of being part of something huge, working side by side with other volunteers who feel passionate about the cause. Even though the task I was given pushed me past my comfort zone, I would do it again, and I would do it better! I would be open to other tasks that would push me past my comfort zone. I would give more time. I would strongly encourage everyone I know to get involved.

It is not how I expected to feel. I expected to feel quite proud of myself for having given an entire day. However, when I learned how much more others had given, I felt moved to give more next time. Late Tuesday night, when Obama was acknowledged as the victor, my feeling of having been “part of the solution” was magnificent.

I will break the story of my day into roughly bite-sized chunks for better digestion by the reader!
