It's not a regular thing, for me to apologize. Rather than attempt to soften the blow of not logging in regularly over the last year since starting my Obama Blog, I will simply drop the pltitudes and get to writing.

Fortunately, I'm not the only one in a meek mood. Today, Black Entertainment Television (BET) Founder, Robert Johnson, issued an apology to Senator Barack Obama for his controversial comments made last Sunday while stumping for the Clinton campaign in South Carolina.

In his apology, Mr Johnson stated, "I'm writing to apologize to you and your family personally for the uncalled-for comments I made at a recent Clinton event. In my zeal to support Senator Clinton, I made some very inappropriate remarks for which I am truly sorry. I hope that you will accept this apology. Good luck on the campaign trail."

Let this be a lesson to everyone: Any statement that you make (regardless of your level of fame or professional involvement) while campaigning on behalf of your candidate, is something for which you hold responsibility; and it matters just as strongly as if the candidate were to have made the statement him or herself.

Let's rise above these negative attacks and quid pro quo nitpicking. If you support someone strongly enough, and believe as passionately as you may about a particular platform, then the naysayers will ultimately lose when they rely upon such tactics of mudslinging and character defamation.

True change in Washington starts when the people adopt the standard of regarding the solutions to issues more than the sophomoric chiding that any candidate pursues. It's time to expect our candidates to engage in only positive campaigns. Only then can the country see itself as improving its reputation as a stalwart entity based on positive principles.
