Today was the last day of Barack Obama and Joe Biden's bus tour through the industrial Midwest, making stops in Lima and Toledo in Ohio, Hamilton in Indiana, and ending up in front of over 17,000 people in Battle Creek, Michigan.
One of the things a candidate learns on the trail is to get used to constant click of the cameras. Whether you are attending church in Lima or talking economics on the roof of the Lucas County Public Library in Toledo, the constant sound of shutters is ubiquitous.
But one can learn the process of photography simply by being around it. This afternoon, when Barack and Joe hit Pier 32, a picturesque restaurant overlooking a lake in Hamilton Indiana, Barack took the time to help some patrons get the pictures just right.
"You're not pressing the shutter button, That's the wrong one," he advised one woman, pointing the correct button out.
"The camera won't respond because you've got it in timer mode," he told another.
"Oh, that's a nice camera," he said to a young photo enthusiast. "Just like these guys'," indicating the cameras of the veteran photographers of his press corps.
Enjoy the day in pictures.

"Palin will also be assigned to pacify conservatives. On the evidence of the numerous emails reprinted here, that will be easily done. Reader after reader said that the base was now energized. You would have thought the base was energized by being in a war. If not, perhaps we need a new base," - Rick Brookhiser.
He's discovering that the actual people in the Republican base are much less interested in national security than in religious orthodoxy. Who knew? The only relevant criterion for the Christianists is that Palin is a pro-life evangelical. What other criterion should they have? This isn't about governing; it's about believing.

Tiptoeing Through the Muck of Alaskan Politics
Link
“I championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. In fact, I told Congress — I told Congress, ‘Thanks, but no thanks,’ on that Bridge to Nowhere. ‘If our state wanted a bridge’, I said, ‘we’d build it ourselves’.
Reeeeally.
Check out these entries from the Ketchikan Daily News:
“People across the nation struggle with the idea of building a bridge because they’ve been under these misperceptions about the bridge and the purpose,’ said Palin, who described the link as the Ketchikan area’s potential for expansion and growth.
Palin said Alaska’s congressional delegation worked hard to obtain funding for the bridge and that she ‘would not stand in the way of the progress toward that bridge’.
8-8-06
‘We need to come to the defense of Southeast Alaska when proposals are on the table like the bridge and not allow the spinmeisters to turn this project or any other into something that’s so negative,’ Palin said.”
Ketchikan Daily News 9-28-06
Alaska Senator Ted Stevens (currently under indictment) and Representative Don Young (currently under investigation) were the bridge’s two biggest proponents. But they were unable to convince Congress to fund the infamous bridge from Ketchikan to Gravina Island at the levels it had hoped. Now, instead of Alaska paying $160 million, the cost to Alaska skyrocketed to $349 million.
After federal funding had been slashed, Palin was asked if she was still in support of funding the project. She said:
Yes. I would like to see Alaska’s infrastructure projects built sooner rather than later. The window is now–while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist.

Please spread the word:
John McCain restricted which reporters saw his medical records and for only 10 minutes and they could not make copies.
We need to write/email the media and tell them to demand unrestricted access to McCains medical records.
Because of his reckless VP pick, its important that the media ask for unrestricted access to his medical records.

The best thing we can all do is just "ignore" McCain and Palin. We don't buy what they're selling. It isn't for us. They don't represent us, they don't have anything we want. Great, she's a woman, so am I, but I need change, and she doesn't deliver or bring that. Besides her being on the wrong side, she's simply literally not qualified. They tried to make Obama seem like that, too, but the difference is, is that he is in fact, qualified. He has experience and judgement, and he was a top student in one of the top schools in the world. McCain is a bottom of the class graduate. We've already tried those bottom of the class, C, D, and F student graduates, it's not working out. This time we need to try putting a brain in the White House. Our country needs a smart leader at the helm. What we don't need is another "daddy made a phone call" type. Stop putting our nation in the hands of D students, we keep giving it to them and they keep running it into the ground.
Palin is being used herself. She just doens't want to admit it, because she's "glowing" in the fact that she can say she's a female VP pick on a repub. ticket. She thinks it's valid. It is not. We can see clearly, because we're not the under qualified VP pick. McFalse is using Palin simply because she goes potty like the rest of us females. That's it. He doesn't care about cun** as he calls us. And check out what his choice in women say...all his life he picks women based on if they're a model or some sort of beauty queen. His first wife, before being disfigured, was a model. His second wife was a beauty queen, and the VP pick, of all women (like Bailey Hutchison who is smart) is another beauty queen. I guess he thinks if bin Laden starts acting up, she's so "pretty" all she has to do is smile, interview him, (after all that's all she is, a journalist/sportscaster) and the whole world will be ok again.
I think this is a joke. We need to just continue focusing on the issues only Obama/Biden, and Hillary Clinton can deliver. Palin has no interest in those issues. She's a Trojan Horse, filled up with Bush policies, that's it.

Gov. Palin's family issues may make exciting headlines, but those headlines should not be allowed to define the Obama/Biden campaign.
That doesn't mean the issues raised in these stories can't be used to illustrate the policy change this campaign wants to make.
I read and hear, over and over again, why people are interested in the Palin family --"We like them because they are regular people -- like us -- facing the problems we face!"
The best response is to talk about the struggles people have while raising their families in this economy -- medical care, the cost of living, jobs, the environment, education.
For example: How can we help single moms raise their children and still have the option of completing their education so they have choices and aren't trapped in a lifetime of poverty?
If we're going to go after Gov. Sarah Palin, the candidate, let's examine the decisions she has made as an elected official -- Is she always a reformer or only when being one helps her get elected to office?

This is a great idea because McBush is trying exploit the storm for political perposes. He should come out strong and remind the people of America that it was the same President that stand by and did nothing in the last flood. It is funny to call us sexist, when she would not have been chosen had she been a man!!! Also, some comments on other blogs are calling the McCain Palin ticket "Beauty and the Beast". Ok. I won't say anymore. But all you have to do is to look at her backward stance on the issues, women, the environment, creationsim vs. science, and that is enough to talk about without the rumors. did you notice in the announcement video how she backed away when McCain (who was staring at her backside the whole time) tried to kiss her???

Hey folks, like a lot of you I reacted with a "Whaaa? Who?" on Friday and have been wandering around all weekend with an uneasy feeling about what all of this means. Did a lot of reading and researching and listening like a lot of other people. And I came to a conclusion...that Governor Palin's experience and background are irrelevant. The biggest problem with her as a candidate is that she is 100% WITH JOHN MCCAIN ON ALL ISSUES and by default 95% with GEORGE BUSH on the issues.
That's it. Now if she disagrees with him on something then I would love to hear it.

Also it is relevant to note that in only a year and a half as governor she is already under investigation for abuse of power.... now if that doesn't align her with the Bush administration than I don't know what does! All the other stuff is tabloid crap, but this Troopergate thing is a serious issue and one that I think we should be talking about to EVERYONE we know!

YOU are right she is Bush/cheney/mccain/palin. on the same side. in the tank with oil companies, supports energy policy drill now. They will run on drill for oil.platform. and jack up the price. obama and dems also agree to off shore drilling but responsibly. that is neither here nor there. just say yes forcefuly and slide on that oil into the white house. better Obama than Mccain.

I think Mccain flip flopped to drill oil in ANWR and drill here drill now drill in my backyard if you have to since people are hurting at the gas pump. Watch the prices go up to help Mccain. They already tried to scare us by starting that Russia Georgia war and were called out by both Putin and Mikhail Shakasvili. BBC and CNN reported Mccain was to benefit by that FEAR & Foreign policy.

I think instead of saying Palin is not qualified we should RAISE the bar higher for her to prove herself. If she just holds her own in the only debate with Biden she will be declared the winner. so lets just say oh yes she is good. then if she doesn't do well we can say see she is not qualified to be commander-in-chief. A vp takes over when the prez is on vacations, out of country or sick. and mccain is long past the retirement age and is sick. ( in the head too)

BUT SHE THINKS ALL OF JOHN MCCAIN'S IDEAS ARE JUST PEACHY KEEN....Which is soooooo wrong.
If McSame can't throw the American public off the trail then HE LOSES. Game, set, match. Barack's speech last week convinced a lot of people (big time repubs included) that McCain doesn't have a prayer unless something happens to distract everyone. Don't let Sarah Palin be that something...

The more important fact about Mrs. Palin is that she WASN'T VETTED.
Link
McCain met her only once before offering her the job, today on Huffington Post it said that when Obama's team showed up in West Bumble... Alaska to go through her records, they were the only ones who had been there, and now this.
To me her experience is relevant, but not as relevant as McCain's judgment in giving the second highest office in the land (at 72 and having survived cancer) to someone he's met once and hasn't vetted. Talk about "Country Last," even McDonalds managers are interviewed twice and have their references checked before they're offered the job.

Well, Obama greeted those outside with his gracious manner, and his 'presence' was the talk of the town! Not that it ever got reported anywhere, but through word of mouth, most people heard of it.
Yes, its a feeling, its a knee jerk, its an assurance, that he presents which makes you know we are doing the best thing for our country by electing him POTUS!

Fortunately for us, Bush/Cheney exhausted the "wedge" issues in 2000 and 2004 to drive out the base for them. The majority of the States have already balloted abortion, gays and guns. The only State that I'm aware of that has an initiative on abortion this time is Utah--and they were not likely a winning State for us. It will take a real sell of McCain himself to Repubs/Evangelicals to motivate the base to the voting booth. Also, the Republicans' numbers are way down and we have registered millions of new Democrats. I think we're in good shape. We just need to be vigilant and do everything possible to see this thing through. Yes WE Can!!!

When Barack had that wonderful journey abroad the media consistently emphasize on the surge and they portrayed him as being presumptuous. They finally stopped the momentum he would have had.
Now, they trying to do the same thing post convention and they desperately trying to inflate Palin's image. This morning on MSNBC we had all the morons in the world aligned to propel Sarah Palin. My in-laws who are visiting from Germany were completely blown away(it's a frightening reminder for them). I told them how bad the media was in the US like a big propaganda machine especially CNN but they never thought it was that bad.
Get this!!!! Maria Bartiromo(CNBC), who has been meeting with all kind of financial gurus and authorities for more than a decade, had said that she was IMPRESSED with the Sarah's knowledge on the economy.
I was so embarrassed for our country this morning I almost threw-up. At least they could have had some decency just for Tim Russert's memory.

It's the MSM's job to spin and lie away, except of course for the select few like Keith Olbermann, Jack Cafferty, and occasionally, Chris Matthews.
She may look good now, but she won't for long, She'll start making plenty of gaffes and the truth about her will slip out. Her inexperience will show on the campaign trail.

Not to burst any bubbles.. but I'm going to. While canvassing yesterday I met a woman, elderly, loves Hillary- despises Barack.. and is especially thrilled by Ms. Palin.
Today while canvassing I spoke to a pastor- of the largest church in town- also going to vote for McCain- specifically because of his choice of Palin.. he honestly feels she has more experience than Barack- yeppers.. in fact when I informed him that in 1992 she was on the town counsel while Barack was teaching Constitutional Law.. this brilliant pastor told me that teaching law wasn't important.
We work like we are 20 points behind at all times. Because there are places like this town.. where the nuts are plenty.

YOu are not alone. My hair dresser seemed to think Palin had as much experience as Obama. When I told her that Obama has been in the senate 8 years (4 in IL, 4 in Washington), she was shocked. Actually I was wrong. Barack ran for the IL seat in 1996, did he not? That would make 12 years experience as senator. Even without counting his other experience, education, accomplishment, Palin does not hold a candle to him. It is insulting to even try to compare these two. Still people believe what they want to believe.

Not sure where to post this so here goes:
I am an Emergency Physician in west Michigan. I am at work now in the ED and taking care of a patient whose story needs telling.
She is 64 and has only Ten-Con insurance coverage. She has some chronic illnesses and came in quite ill with pneumonia. Our hospital is full so I am forced to transfer her to another facility. Her insurance does not pay for transfers or admissions. She already owes our hospital upwards of $30,000 and another regional hospital around $10,000.
I am going to not charge her for my services and ask the CFO and VP here to forgive some of their charges, but her situation saddens me. She and her family were contemplating driving her over to the other hospital themselves in order to save the cost of transferring by ambulance. This would clearly jeapordize her health and possibly her life. I convinced her that we could forgive some of her bill to offset the transfer costs, and they are going by ambulance.
The situation is not unique to this woman and her family. Her story and others like it are one of the reasons that I support Barack Obama. I would love to get my story out there somehow. I am going to write a letter to the editor locally and if the campaign has a place for me to tell this story i would be very appreciative.
If there is an event in Michigan where I could tell my story or if Mr. Obama wants to share it please let me know.

HRC supporters say Palin is a shadow for Hillary. She will be the top 1 in women. Supporters of HRC do want to see women other than Palin in the white house.
They think if McCain wins, it will be automatically be true that Palin will be the president not Hillary. They are really worrid.

I agree. It's all about context.
Here's an excerpt from an article:
Palin was once a contestant in the Miss Alaska contest, and no less an authority than Rush Limbaugh has called her a “babe,” though of course Gov. Palin is a governor and former mayor and mother and I’ll bet this is the last time Biden comments about her looks.
“From our perspective the whole deal is how does the government help you get back up without getting in the way?” Biden asked. “There’s a gigantic - gigantic — difference between John McCain and Barack Obama, and between me and I suspect my vice presidential opponent. And that is that - ”
The crowd laughed.
“Well there’s obvious differences,” Biden said, beginning to ham it up. “She’s good looking,” he said, laughing. “You know there’s obvious differences. But there’s a whole lot — ”
A woman shouted: “you’re gorgeous!” to Biden.

You are running against a tough opponent. Sarah Palin is an unknown in the political arena. So here in my estimation is a couple of questions Americans may want to know in the future debates.
The following article pertains to this question: Link
Governor Palin as Vice President of the United States when do you feel it is appropriate to "take your hat off" and offer opinion on ballot measures, legislation or other matters of national interest?
There is a certain perception that comes with voicing your opinion, E.G. favortism to foreign mining companies, native corporations or oil companies. How will you avoid these conflicts of interest in their second and third order effects?
Your husband is a oil field worker for British Petroleum. Will your husband continue to work for this company while you are in office? What impact do you think this will have for BP?
Why did Alaska choose to sue the Federal Government over listing the Polar Bear on endagered species list when polar ice caps are melting at a record pace? Gov. Sarah Palin and other state officials fear a listing will cripple offshore oil and gas development in the Chukchi and Beaufort seas in Alaska's northern waters, which provide prime habitat for the only polar bears under U.S. jurisdiction. Link
Governor Palin your Lieutenant Governor is running for Alaska's House seat, and you have designated the Attorney General as the third in line of succession to the Governor seat. How does this leave your State when a nonelected official takes charge in a corruption tainted State. How much of the progression you have made will last the two years left in your term?
How changes are needed in Alaska to get them off the Government Pork List? How is a state that has enough to give back Permanent Dividends and Energy Rebates eligible for so many Federal (Tax payers) Dollars? Why is there no income tax in Alaska when their workers are the highest paid per capita in the Nation. In fact there is no State Tax for Alaska Residents. No wonder your popularity there is so high.
Sarah Palin is a decent Governor who's inexperience and integrity have been instrumental in getting Alaska back on track. However this is a state with a population of 670,053. Nothing in comparision to the 300,000,000 in the USA.
Just a few thoughts from the Alaskan Caveman.

Second, what the heck ever happened to FREE SPEECH in this country?! It seems NO ONE can speak their mind in any genuine way without offending somebody. PC RUN AMUCK! I for one would like to get back to the days when people could be genuine and not have to run the "who will I offend filter' before they open their mouths.

McCain has poor judgement skills. It's obvious in the way he has lived his life and it's obvious in the way he picked his VP.
Pasted this from a bloomberg article:
"McCain's selection of the inexperienced Alaska governor, Sarah Palin, which stunned many politicians, reaffirms his maverick image. It was also impulsive: He'd only met her once, briefly, before last week. Most of his advisers wanted him to pick someone more seasoned as his running mate."
Impulsive... Not a good thing for the president of the United States to be making impulsive decisions...

I have a rather general question.
Many states now have democratic governors and often a democratic majority in the senate. How influential are these politicians (esp. the governor) for their party candidates? It seems like if a state votes for more democrats, they would want to vote for the democratic candidate in the presidential election. May be I am being naive.

Some pols are good at garnering support for up/down ballot candidates and some are not. So I'll give you the answer you love to hate - it depends.
But your question brings up another key point. If we want to see Barack achieve his vision and goals for the country, we need to also support down-ballot candidates who support his agenda. I think the campaign has done a pretty good job of letting us know about these candidates but if any of you have suggestions, please be sure to post them on the blog. Thanks! :-)

You're right, which is why the republican has been repeating ad naseum that the democratic congress has a polling of 9%. They're trying to enduce revolt of putting a dem in office. The republicans are not going to give up their position easily. They'll stage mini-wars, pander, slant media coverage, fire judges, rig polling data and before it's all over tinker with voting machines.

Honestly, I don't see any of that sticking. At all. Sure, maybe the chimpanzee thing can be taken out of context and used in terms of race (which I'm pretty sure wasN'T what the pastor meant--he meant evolution), but I think that's all that the American public might remotely care about. :-/
Then again, if the MSM can twist Wright's words so incredibly out of context, they surely can "do us a favor" and twist their words. Oh--wait, the MSM is in the tank for it's sponsors--for itself--corporate America, AKA republicans!

My thoughts? Franky, he's said nothing I haven't heard in church. Or in the Bible for that matter, aside from the monkey comment. I don't see anything in his statement that's against the norm. Go to any Christian church and you'll hear similar sermons. Jesus said,
"I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but by me."
So what does that scripture mean? It's either His way or it's the highway. IOW, He's the only game in town. Therefore, the preacher is just teaching scripture. For a non-Christian this is probably offensive, but it's biblical Christianity. Plain and simple.

By now everyone knows which side the media is on and ther's nothing scientific at all about polls conducted by CNN, MSNBC or even the legitimate polling companies. They are NOT counting newly registered voters nor cell phone owners. I have a land line and have been a registered dem. for 40 years. I have never been polled, nor do I know anyone who has!
Just get out and register more voters; that's better than fixating on every poll and asinine comment from the repub. media. That should stop your worry or at least you wouldn't have time to come apart at every poll.
There are ppl on this very blog who are professional pollers and they have explained time and time again to IGNORE THESE POLLS AND WHY!

The Democratic convention and Barack's acceptance speech were game changers! Within one day after the speech, McCain and his campaign have done a complete 180 degree turn-around. They scrapped their original game plan by throwing the experience issue out the window to adopt change as their center piece rallying cry. Obama is proving to be a tremendous leader! He adopts a position, is criticized by the Republicans, stands his ground, and the Republicans eventually see the wisdom and follow his path. This has happened at least four times now: 1) Unilateral action in Pakistan, if necessary; 2) Initiation of a diplomatic dialogue with Iran; 3) Setting a time table for withdrawal from Iraq; and now 3) Adoption of change as the main focus of the campaigne.
It's terribly encouraging that the Republicans are implicitly acknowledging what we have always known. Barack Obama is a leader who makes even his most ardent opponents see the wisdom of his beliefs I completely agree with the person's statement above...I am starting to see, crystal clearly now, that it is in fact, Obama who is actually the Maverick! I think he's been touched by God and has a calling. God and one are a majority. Not the polls or some McCain supporters. LOLOLOL

Lately it seems the CNN polls present the least favorable results among all similar national polls. Whatever. What really counts are the individual state polls (not so much the national ones). This is because, like it or not, the answer lies in the Electoral College.
I've been studying the state by state polls and so far it is looking pretty good with Barack ahead still in Electoral College votes. Even so, that doesn't mean we coast from here on. It isn't over until it's over so we have to keep at it until the last polling place closes on November 4th!

"The Obama campaign has long been on board those digital locomotives. Its ability to tell its story under the radar of the mainstream press in part accounts for why the Obama surge has been so often underestimated. Even now we’re uncertain of its size. The extraordinary TV viewership for Obama on Thursday night, larger than the Olympics opening ceremony, this year’s Oscars or any “American Idol” finale, may only be a count of the horses. The Obama campaign’s full reach online — for viewers as well as fund-raising and organizational networking — remains unknown."

You tell them straight out that even though prices keep going up, you don't have health insurance, there's still no healthcare, etc. McCain wants to lower the amount you receive on your social security check and raise the social security age. Things That Make You Go Hmmm
Questions for the McCain-Palin campaign:
Where has Bristol Palin (far right, holding Trig, with a ring on her wedding finger) been for the past year? Has she been attending high school? Or was she absent because of infectious mononucleosis for between five and eight months, as is now being reported on the Internet?
Why would a 43 year old woman, on her fifth pregnancy, with a Down Syndrome child, after her amniotic fluid has started to leak, not go to the nearest hospital immediately, even if she was in Texas for a speech?
Why would she not only not go to the hospital in Texas, but take an eight-hour plane flight to Seattle and then Anchorage?
Why would she choose to deliver the baby not in the nearest major facility in Anchorage but at a much smaller hospital near her home-town?
Why did the flight attendants on the trip home say she bore no signs of being pregnant?...

Also, I do not think that a 16 year old teenager who got pregnant (if it's true) is so careful that no one else would know....I am particularly interested in knowing who the baby daddy may be. Finally, weren't they all screaming for Edwards...(no longer a candidate for anything take a DNA test regarding parenting a child?)

I don't think that the baby is her daughters baby.. That's way too conspiracy theory. Besides, the poor baby has Downs Syndrome... that is usually associated with older mothers.
I just think it was a little nuts of her not to just have the baby in Texas. That's the part I have a problem with.
My cousin lives in Texas and I had heard about this baby birth story a few months ago.
She doesn't believe in abortion, but she knew the child had Downs Syndrome before it was born. Maybe she was playing Russian Roulette with the birth... maybe testing GOD? If he really wanted her to have the baby, then he could make sure it lived through an older mother in labor taking a very long flight.... Getting my drift???

Whats interesting about the baby story is that she went to work three days after the birth. She clearly did not want to stay home with this baby. Did she do the same with her other children. I think she has not come to terms with her child's disability and probably needs psychological help. So both her and McCreepy have personality disorders and are planning to run the country. The both need psycholigical assessments.

My goodness guys.... I'm catching up on the posts and feel like I just picked up the latestet issue of the National Enquirer.
I don't like reading trash like this on Obama's blog. It's tasteless to say the very least.
We have an election to win. We are not applying for a job of smutt journalist with a toilet paper tabloid.
The suggestions, speculations and innuendos I'm reading make me ill.
Where I feel VERY STRONGLY that John McCain has placed our country in DANGER by selecting such an inexperienced person to be a heartbeat away from the presidency when he's so elderly and is a 3 time cancer survivor, it was her personal decision to continue her pregnancy, and to deliver where she chose to. To suggest that this is not her child is ridiculous. Now can we get back to electing our president, please?

I believe Palin needs to stay home and be a mother. That's not being sexist, and I'm not saying she shouldn't work. I'm a woman and a mother and I really believe she needs to actually try mothering. It is a BIG job.
I believe McCain has put our country in danger, his "Country First" just went right out the window. It went over to Obama. Obama put the country first by selecting Biden, not beauty king, Fabio. Fabio does have foreign policy experience though. Palin just got her passport in 2007.

In New Orleans people are still traumatized from Katrina and they are once again being asked to evacuate. How tragic. My hearts go out to them. May they all be safe.
McCain refused aid for Katrina victims last time. He was celebrating his birthday as people were fighting for their lives. Now McCain is trying to take advantage of their situation by going there and trying to be in the limelight. He is not the POTUS. May be somebody needs to tell him that; he appears delusional.

It makes me sick that the Repubs make fun of his "celebrity". WE, HIS SUPPORTERS, DON'T SEE HIM AS A CELEBRITY! Many of us truly adore this man for reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with his popularity, so they are making fun of US, not just him! I am an Independent and I will NEVER EVER vote for a Republican candidate as long as I live because they have shown me just how truly vile and evil they are. I know that not all Republicans are vile and evil, but they will all have to pay the price for those that are. I vow to work tirelessly to see that they are defeated in every election.

Yeah interesting.. but I also think it isn't telling us something that we all need to pay attention to- the candidates can get only so specific when they're out campaigning. And these people are very representative of wanting to KNOW the numbers on everything.. they want to know exactly how everything will be paid for. BO has done that repeatedly, but if people aren't paying attention...it matters not at all.
Like right now on Health care- they care less about everyone having health care than they do about having to foot the bill for others to have health care. BO has clearly stated that he will negotiate with the HMO's etc.. to lower EVERYONE's health care... and that he'll have a seat at the table for everyone.. and yet this group seems to know nothing about his plans.
Another issue I've discovered while canvassing- people will NOT go and educate themselves on the issues, or the candidate's stances. The townhalls are not aired on the tv during the day, possibly on CNN and CSPAN.. but most average people tune into the 4 main channels- and they haven't heard ANY of Barack's townhalls.. and I'm not sure how to reach this people except at their doors- and when I get to their door after they've been nuked by the media's constant bs bombs- It's an uphill battle to even get them to listen-

Well this interesting focus group only in that I've been who or what was the agenda here.. and now they've cleared that up- it's on behalf of AARP.. who say they don't endorse a candidate.. and YET one of the major questions was which is more important- accountability or change?? What does that tell you? That they're representing the question as Change=BO and accountability= McCain.. which is a very very manipulative question. And the lemmings are buying into it.

All of this is a distraction from what we need to be doing don't you find it to be a bit odd that all of this to be happening during the time John McCain is supposed to be telling the American people what his plans are in reference to issues. These people will do and say anything!!! to win this election, this will show you how powerful they really are. And how the media role is when it comes to manipulating people's minds this is all a distraction so John McCain does not have to face a large ordinance and look like the fool that he is people wake up focus on John McCain, that's what our focus should be on the issues.
They never speak about how one of the victims of Katrina, said she heard dynamite doing that occurrence, we already know that 9/11 was an inside job, and not to mention the war that we're still in we are dealing with some very evil people and we need to stay focus or these very people will be there another four to eight years in the White House.
Also do not believe that John McCain has picked his V/P yet it is all a game and this is what, John McCain thinks of the American people and the crises that the American, people are facing. We are a game to John McCain… Let John McCain, know not this time!!!!

NOT EVERYONE IS BUYING THIS TRIPE:
From The Australian
What McCain has done in selecting Palin is an entirely political decision to win him the general election, which proves again that self-interest always triumphs in politics.
But in terms of foreign policy, in which Australia has most interest, this is a reckless move and potentially stressful toour alliance in the event that early in the next administration Palin were elevated to the presidency.
The comeback from the McCain campaign is that Barack Obama is even less experienced than Palin. As a political argument, this is understandable and worth running, but it is intellectually dishonest.
You don't pull off what Obama has done in the past 18 months and not be qualified to lead. In fact, this is what the whole process is about - testing candidates in the public glare seven days a week for nearly two years so Americans can make their judgment on who should lead their parties.
Obama has passed that test with his party's voters, and is now being tested again against McCain in the general election.
Obama's intellectual heft plus his state department in waiting - about 300 foreign policy advisers are already signed on to his team - shores up his credentials.
And his pick of Joe Biden, 65, as his VP means that should Obama come to harm, the US and its allies will have in a president Biden - a life-long senator and two-time presidential candidate - an expert in foreign policy and international relations.

Remember, on August 10, 2008, Karl Rove went on "Face The Nation" to argue that Senator Obama would make an "intensely political choice" for Vice President without regard for the "responsibilities of president." At the time, Rove believed Obama would choose Tim Kaine, and argued against him by saying this: "With all due respect again to Governor Kaine, he's been a governor for three years, he's been able but undistinguished. I don't think people could really name a big, important thing that he's done. He was mayor of the 105th largest city in America. And again, with all due respect to Richmond, Virginia, it's smaller than Chula Vista, California; Aurora, Colorado; Mesa or Gilbert, Arizona; north Las Vegas or Henderson, Nevada. It's not a big town. So if he were to pick Governor Kaine, it would be an intensely political choice where he said, 'You know what? I'm really not, first and foremost, concerned with, is this person capable of being president of the United States?'" In a twist of irony, McCain makes an intensely political choice for VP with no regard to her readiness to be president should the need arise. In this first test of the candidates and their judgment, Obama wins hands down. Biden is clearly ready to lead should the need arise. Palin is not. I seriously doubt that anyone will choose to remember this Rove interview to appreciate its sweet irony, especially not the MSM.

Not everyone reads the Washington post, but lots of people watch TV. I had to explain to my hair dresser that with Obama's plan only those making more than $250,000 a year will see their taxes go up. She is a republican, and she will vote republican, but it is important to educate people on these issues, or their misconceptions about Obama will persist because McCain is spreading lies on the MSM.

the Repugs attacks on Obama are increasing. I thought they would drop the experience issue after selecting the ridiculously inexperienced Ms.Palin for VP role. HOwever, McShame is now trying to show that she has more experience than our great leader Barack. Many ignorant people will believe him.
If Barack is put in a defensive mode, he loses the election in Nov. I strongly believe that the campaign needs to bring on Keating 5, McShame's shameful history of not supporting our veterans, not supporting Katrina survivors, and all his transgressions. Now is not the time to be soft, and only sticking with the main issues. This election needs to be a referendum on McCain, not on Obama. IMO the momentum has shifted McCain's way, and we must counteract it by going on the offensive, and not pulling any punches.

Non-Partisan Group:
The Obama plan would reduce taxes for low- and moderate-income families, but raise them significantly for high-bracket taxpayers (see Figure 2). By 2012, middle-income taxpayers would see their after-tax income rise by about 5 percent, or nearly $2,200 annually. Those in the top 1 percent would face a $19,000 average tax increase—a 1.5 percent reduction in after-tax income.
McCain would lift after-tax incomes an average of about 3 percent, or $1,400 annually, for middle-income taxpayers by 2012. But, in sharp contrast to Obama, he would cut taxes for those in the top 1% by more than $125,000, raising their after-tax income an average 9.5 percent.

Yup, I'm always surprised when that works. One lie I hear all the time is Obama will raise taxes on those making 42000 a year.
They are testing it. If that doesn't work, they have another, which is, tax cuts for the middle class amounts to welfare.

It's ludicrous Sheri, comparing their resumes; no offense to Gov. Palin but it's just silly. To hear Cindy McCain yesterday on the morning shows claiming that "Gov. Palin has accomplished things in life that Barack Obama (omitted "Senator") could only DREAM of achieving," made me ill. And Stephanopoulos just sat there, no rebuttal.
The world has truly gone mad. Add to that Charlie Black's comment (McCain advisor once removed) that re: her "lack" of foreign policy experience, "She will be learning at the FOOT of the MASTER." That comment is so utterly offensive to me as a woman, on so many levels...well, you know.
And Lindsey Graham's ridiculous claim that Sarah Palin, having "taken on" Sen. Ted Stevens is PROOF that she can hold her own with former KGB agent, former President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, defies anyone's definition of credulity.
One other comment from Mark Steyn of the National Review yesterday.
"Only in this great country of ours can a gun loving, moose stew eating,
"ALL AMERICAN"
beauty queen become president."
He continued to say that all Barack Obama can claim on his paltry resume is having written two autobiographies and a stint as a "phony-baloney" community organizer.
What disturbs me most about Sarah Palin is not necessarily her intelligence, or lack thereof, for there is little on which to measure that. It's her lack of intellectual CURIOSITY, ala Bush, that I find so disturbing!
Over 20 years ago she obtained a BA in "journalism" as she wanted to be a sportscaster. What academic endeavours or achievements has she pursued, racked up since that time? No writings? No desire to travel not only abroad, but within her own country? Where can I turn to to discern her vision not only for America, but the world? What books and newspapers does she read?
It's very disturbing to think the American electorate would buy into this "Alice Through the Looking Glass," "Emperor has no clothes," hoodwinking.

Okay HQ- after canvassing for 11 hours this weekend and now after listening to this focus group on CSPAN setup by AARP.. this is my very humble advice:
***Please make a TV AD outlining Barack Obama's SPECIFIC education and work/legislative experience.. seriously LIST IT. The amount of BILLS he's been a part of - his 11 years in the senate.. his degrees and what he majored in. This is becoming very much a concern to me- that people in this country still are not only buying into this 'lack' of experience spin, but they are telling other people that he lacks.
***Please make a TV AD outlining Barack's specific plans for America- healthcare- how he's going to pay for it.
***His stance on all forms of energy
***His specifics on taxes- not only that he'll give tax cuts to 95% of America.. but the $250,000 cut off for families and business's. His stance on Social security.
***Please make an ad showing that he has been endorsed by the sportsman's club- his stance specifically on gun ownership.
***An Ad showing his support of Veterans, soldiers, the bills he's sponsored and signed onto benefiting our soldiers. People NEED to know this stuff!
Thank you, please consider this.. everyone is not a believer of ALL of the education and experience he has.. and the media has spent 2 days now comparing HIS 'lack' to that of Sarah Palin's and it IS taking hold.
Do the same with Joe Biden.. ADS with all he's accomplished in the Senate.
Thank you.. and please consider these things.

I like your points Sheri but that's what they want. Obama needs to keep the focus on the entire ticket.
The hurricane could be a god send for Mccain. They now have a reason not to be seen with Bush.
The plus for us is, if it's an issue based election, we win. They have to tie her policies to McCain and McCain to Bush.

People just think you're repeating what you've been told or making it up. And sadly, most seem to watch Fox the most. They are determined to put another Bush in the WH even as they sit there on food stamps, living with relatives and have no job!

I just finished watching the CSPAN Republican convention focus group. This seems like it's turning to be a slight push-poll against Obama. Spending a lot of time asking if people understand what accountability means, and the Fox guy got to ask several times "why is Obama more accountable than McCain?"
Anyway, I'm starting to see that the Palin pick is about government accountability as a complete break from the Bush administration. The reason she's on the ticket, the illusion being created about her is her 'clean government' image.
This is fscking crazy, since she's already caught in a lie that she was against the "Bridge to no where" during her national rollout. Sorry for my profanity, I just can't believe this is occurring before me, and parts of the media are being complicit in creating the illusion.
Here are the AP and CBS articles that exposes the Bridge to no where lie. Please digg it up, and get more people aware.

Folks...This is so important, I'm going to repeat again. What they are after with the Palin VP announcement is the clean-break of McCain from the Bush taint.
Palin is being sold to the American people as the corruption fighting champion of the people, to support McCain's maverick corruption fighting image. Expect to see rollout of more Rezko charges against our guy, as well as more "old boys politics" charges against Biden from Palin.

I just watched it too.. and it was actually sponsored by AARP.. and I was too very very disturbed by the Change v Accountability theme.. see my post above.
I believe you are spot on. From the moment she was introduced- mccain described her at as washington outsider.. and the change America needs.. very clearly they are pushing her as their female Obama and the media is playing along by comparing her experience to BO's- even though she has zilch in reality and she is running as VP not against Barack. It's 1+1=3.. the emporer has no clothes.. whatever analogy we want to use.. but it is definitely their stradegy- which is working in bumf**k ND so far.

And don't think for a moment that she wouldn't get die hard Hillary voters. She is very compelling.
