I share your economical pain. I lost my job last June, the county in Florida where I live has one of the highest rates of unemployment. I get my last check next week and it will only be for 1 week not 2 because that's all I have left. I was under the impression Congress passed an extension but I have not been notified. I try to remain positive because I trust and believe President-Elect Obama when he says things will get better, I do have HOPE. It's just that some days it's really hard. I can't even imagine how we will survive if I don't get the extension. I have kids, grand kids and great grand kids and it breaks my heart that I will be unable to even travel to see them this Xmas let alone buy them something. But, I keep hanging in there, it's what we Americans do.

Let's say between $3,000 - $15,000 per adult, what would that do to the Economy, wait let us make the request you get HELP getting your finances in order - Do not allow C.C.'s to scoop up all this money - and then with the rest you have to spend it on MADE IN THE USA stuff!

I'm a bit tapped out myself. Donated far more than I intended during the heat of the campaign. I do not regret a cent of it, however.
I do want to note that MoveOn sent me a totally free high quality T-shirt with the only request being that I wear it when doing volunteer work for the Obama campaign, which I did. I phone banked with MoveOn once, but never donated money. It was very nice of them to value my time that way. I appreciated it.

I've heard that too. I think it is true. I think that humor means having the ability to see beyond the black/white of things and see things from a different and unexpected angle.
There is nothing I appreciate more, or find more sexy (I'm not saying here that Gates is sexy at all so don't get me wrong...) than a man with a great sense of humor who can make me laugh.

I do! I haven't even picked it out yet---I'm going wedding dress shopping at Christmas. I'll tell you what though, I got a lot of good ideas last night from looking at those Inauguration ball dress designs for possible dresses. I really don't want a traditional dress---too old and don't want to be "mutton dressed as lamb" as they say here in the UK
I'll take the number 21 as a wedding dress. How bout it? I'm tall like Michelle and if I tone my arms a bit, I might be able to carry it off. It will have to be ivory instead of white though as I can't wear white. It totally washes me out!

David Mendell's Barack Obama From Promise to Power
That is a good book, David is a reporter from Chicago that was allowed to get close early, early and follow along to many amazing places, Hawaii interview with Toot and African visit prior to Presidential decesion, also video from Blockbuster, "Barack Obama who is this Man?"
Good interviews about Barack, including one with David Mendell, and a local supporter from my area, Roberta (the short hair lady).

CNN's coverage of science, technology and the environment has been integrated into the general editorial structure, according to spokeswoman Christa Robinson.

Dec 4th 2008 at 9:49 am EST (Updated Dec 4th 2008 at 9:49 am EST)
I cannot believe it has been only one month since Barack was elected as our 44th president. I am still smiling and still crying at times when I think about what our nation accomplished.
Can you believe it, this time last month, we were all in such a state that most of us probably should have been medicated and made to go to bed and rest.
Some of us have been on this blog for a long time, so much so our families just gave up on us. We were all Obama all the time!
I got up this morning and by 5:30 AM, I had my cake in the oven. I was suppose to bake it last month on election day, but I was a wreck.
This evening, I am going to celebrate with cake and ice cream and I am going to watch a few of my favorite videos by DesertDoveDan and some of my favorite speeches by Barack. I will probably be crying like a baby and smiling like a cheshire cat, but "it's my party and I'll cry if I want to!" (lol)
So, to all who helped in your own special way to get Barack elected president, I'll be smiling and thanking God for all of you tonight also.
Everyone have a great day, and just smile, because we the people got our country back and put it in good hands.
BJ in Chicago, who is still smiling after casting her vote for her favorite junior senator Barack Obama on October 13, 2008! (I was the 265th person to cast my vote that day).
May God bless and keep our President-Elect, Barack Obama and his family and staff. And may God bless and keep each of you and your families.
In the Precious name of Jesus, amen.
Have a great day!

I am determined to get my favorite President-Elect Barack Obama re-elected in 2012!
I think I might turn this into a fundraising idea!
If everyone of us started saving some of our loose change over the next 4 years, can you imagine how much money we could raise and have ready to donate to Barack's re-election campaign!
I am going to call my piggy bank "Obama Savings for Change"!

BJ....I had been thinking about fund raising for PE Obama too, then it occurred to me that we (who donate)could put together a huge amount of money to help ourselves. We would use the money to create a new company, offer new jobs, help the retiree's who want to invest...and to be part of the solution. We can help the entire country. By the time we get to 2012, we will have turned things around dramatically! I introduced this idea on change.gov and got a very positive response.

President-elect Barack Obama has called for the closure of the military facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

All 12 retirees have been critical of the Bush administration's endorsement of enhanced interrogation techniques, including highly controversial practices such as waterboarding.
They have instead urged the adoption of a single -- and less controversial -- standard of interrogation and detainment across all intelligence and other agencies.

The People's Inauguration
12/18/08 By Michael E. Ruane - Washington Post
WASHINGTON - It was billed as the biggest, most eye-popping of the inauguration hotel packages: the JW Marriott's $1 million "build-your-own-ball" offer. You get 300 rooms, four suites, $200,000 worth of food and drink, and a primo site overlooking the Pennsylvania Avenue parade route.
And it was snapped up within hours of Barack Obama's election as president by a customer the hotel declined to identify.
This morning, the Marriott is scheduled to announce that the buyer is a Virginia businessman who wants to bring to the inauguration disadvantaged people, terminally ill patients, wounded soldiers and others down on their luck.
Earl W. Stafford, 60, of Fairfax County, the founder of a Centreville technology company who grew up as one of 12 children of a Baptist minister, said he will provide his guests lodging, food and special access, as well as beauticians, gowns and tuxedos, if necessary.
Stafford has paid the $1 million, a spokesman said, and is prepared to spend $600,000 more for a breakfast, a luncheon and two balls at the hotel. Stafford said he hopes to recoup some of the $600,000 from other sponsors, yet to be recruited.
"We wanted to . . . bless those who otherwise wouldn't have an opportunity to be a part of the great celebration, the inauguration and the festivities," he said in an interview yesterday. "Our objective is to bring in a cross-section of society -- those who are distressed, those who are terminally ill, those who are socially and economically disadvantaged, those veterans who are wounded and served our country."

be a girl
All along, Tibetans in exile have looked to the Dalai Lama as their only hope. But since he had surgery for an abdominal ailment in Delhi in October, they are worried about his health. They often discuss life after him. Such talk has been all the more commonplace in recent years, especially after Beijing passed an edict last year giving the Chinese government a role in approving new incarnations of the Dalai Lama.
Aware of the controversy that could surround the reincarnation after his death and to undermine any attempt by China to appoint its own Dalai Lama, the Dalai Lama has long said he may not be reincarnated at all. On November 23, he went further, indicating that the next Dalai Lama might be chosen in his lifetime and that his successor could even be a girl. He also made it clear that he would not retire from the Tibetan cause, but that he was ready to pass on his political role.

I'm a little concerned India is heavily supporting the cause especially when Nepal is prepared to give China support.

So it was inevatible that someone would come out and refute Obama on his small doner campaign, whether it is for attention getting or merely out of spite, I can't say. But to put together a study saying that $200 doners are big doners is a fallacy. Many supporters were committing $15 and $20 a month to attain this figure, now how could anyone call them big doners. The writer is either unaware of how the $200 figure was obtained or he ignored the process.
What is more surprising is the the entyre Morning Joe crew marched in lock-step behind Joe Scarsboo and didn't even raise this or any other argument, the man sickens me to no end.
Here's hoping that someone does a study contradicting this paper.

I belive she would get Mrs. Obama's personal style. It would great for her to give her a nod. I would be nice Mrs. Obama to go with someone different then the norm...like her husband (campaign did) (I'm not sure his white house will continue, but I'll wait a little longer) I was impressed with her and I don't believe Mrs Obama would not be disappointed.

Hey Deb,
This is not a reply to your comment.
First I hope Thanksgiving was all that and more.
Today on Morning Joe, Bill was on there and said something that really fried my egg.
He said that in today's world kids identify more with Rosa Parks and Harriet Tubman(and another reformer) then they do with War Heroes (he named a General whos name I don't recall). He said it as if the former were Daffy Duck and Goofy. He sat there with Joe in mourning over the GOP and made Rosa, Harriet and Barack story something to sratch your head about. Like why are these kids so into this stuff?
Not to take anything from war heroes (because I do feel we need to know about all the heroes who shaped our country) but to sit there like all is lost because kids today want all stories and not just war stories was horrible.
Yesterday Rachel was so on the money when she said Bush and Rove are trying to re-write history right before our eyes...and now they will try to re-write Barack's before it is even written. They will not stop, so neither can we!!

As far as the Morning Joe thing I didn't watch, but they should be ashamed of themselves for mocking kids that want to learn EVERYTHING, not just the stuff they are force-fed. The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that, according to Al Franken's campaign, 133 mballots have disappeared in the Minnesota Senate race recount:
An uproar Wednesday over 133 mystery ballots that may or may not have disappeared in Minneapolis became the newest controversy to roil the U.S. Senate recount.
At issue was a discrepancy between Election Day and recount totals in one of the city's precincts.
DFLer Al Franken's campaign lodged a protest over 133 votes that it said could not be accounted for during the recount, at a possible cost to him of as many as 46 net votes in his race against Republican Sen. Norm Coleman.
Franken officials sent a letter to the secretary of state's office and Minneapolis elections director Cindy Reichert demanding that the votes from the northeast Minneapolis precinct not be officially reported until a search is conducted for the ballots.
"This is an incredible breach of the democratic process," Franken spokesman Andy Barr told Politico. "That makes 133 residents of this one precinct in Minneapolis whose voices were effectively silenced by this serious error, and it must be corrected before anyone can consider this recount complete or accurate."
On Wednesday, Franken's campaign announced that by their own count, the Democratic challenger is now beating Republican Sen. Norm Coleman.

low the media has gone in even discussing such a thing. Michelle's Mother is family for goodness sake and the idea that there is some strange event occuring here makes me wonder if anyone who does these reports or talk shows or whatever has a

Where can i send my ideas to Barack????
Here is my solution, it is a 3 part puzzle piece that work together:
1/ Infrastructure
2/ New Electric Cars
3/ ENERGY
First you establish your infrastructure so that it can accept a certain kind of energy to sustain it. But as you do that you contact or maybe TAKE OVER the car industry and begin building cars what would be output, and homes Input. Finally you start using these cars to provide STORED energy(by driving them) into your new homes.
This would solve so many front, JOBS, ENERGY, EDUCATION, HEALTHCARE, THE PLANET, Unions, New Industry and technology we can begin to EXPORT to other countries. JObs, Jobs, JObs.
(that is my idea)

It is my belief that we must see the energy crisis not in a separate way, rather see how it all FITS TOGETHER GLOBALLY.
We cannot continue to react to things, we must see the entire PICTURE. And in my opinion, we're wasting TOO much energy as humans. We're not being responsible, and so I believe we must start NOW by showing that we should only use what we have. By building these new homes this would create jobs for many many people, and get poor people of the street. By having cars that provide energy to our homes, that would solves SOOOOO many issues.
Please Senator Obama....Please take my idea.

Yes Cilla I read that and I hope Nick from Iowa read it as well since he was on the blog last night voicing his "disappointment" over all the "stuff coming out." I tried to reason with him and tell him to wait and see what the Obama administration does once he is in office and not to fall for all of these misleading stories. Unfortunately HP is getting bad about putting out stories that aren't exactly true. They have half-truths in them. It seems odd that more people are relying on the media which they rightfully bashed the whole campaign season. I still don't trust the media as they still refuse to cover the important things like what Bush is doing before he leaves office and instead spends all of their time speculating on what Obama will/will not do once he is sworn into office.

Hi Tori -- I think there is always going to be inaccuracies in the press, especially in the bloggisphere. It's just the nature of the beast.
I hate to stick up for ANYONE in the press, even Huffpo, but in the above linked article, I see no problem. There was an accusation out there that Obama was not going to tax windfall profits on the oil companies. This article addresses the rumors, askes the transition team about them, and prints the answers they gave, stating the they indeed ARE planning to tax windfalls.
Maybe I am really missing the boat here? What do you see wrong or inacurate with the article?

Susan the problem is that the Huffington Post was the outlet that printed the story claiming that Obama had already went back on his first promise to tax the oil companies and they made it first page headline news yesterday. It is ironic that their correction to the story they posted yesterday is tucked away underneath some other articles and is not front page headline news. They started the nonsense yesterday without bothering to ask the transition team or find out if their accusations were indeed true or not in the first place. They assumed that because it was absent from the Change.gov website then it must have been a change of policy.

Oh, I didn't know that. I had heard it elsewhere in the media as well. I didn't know it had originated on the Huff.
One has to always consider the author on there. Most are rather progressive and most are supportive of Obama but some are a bit stayed in their ideology. That's not good on the right and it's not good on the left. Purists can be a bit over the top, in my view.
But basically, I find Huffpo to be a good source of information, if, as I said before, you get to know the bloggers and which ones are better at checking their sources. It's got a lot of variety and I think that's good.

I really enjoy some of the links people put up here. I love Celtic's daily links. He usually puts a one line description of the link and then the link. I can go down the list and surf to the ones the interest me. Very clear, very informative. There are a lot of others who do this too and I thank them.
What I really hate to see here, though, is long reposting of articles that can be found elsewhere. For one thing, it is a violation of copyright laws to repost entire articles. (You are only permitted to post limited quotes without paying royalties.)
For another, it's boring to put such lengthy stuff on the blog that may not be of interest to everyone who has to scroll past it. Why put a whole article from Huffpo when we can just go there and read it? Just put the link.
If you have written a long essay yourself, why not just put it on your own O-blog and put a link here with a brief summary?
I particularly dislike it when people paste a story so long that they have to do 3 or 4 postings continuing it. There is a reason that there is a word limit. The continuity of the blog is destroyed by long postings.
Just a thought, only MHO. I hope it doesn't offend, as my intention is to merely suggest, not condemn, and I hope the people that do this will think about the options.
Anyone else have any ideas on this?

You have some very valid points..Thanks!

By the way 4Earth totally agree with your suggestion with respect to how to post articles and links.
My favorite is when people give a brief description then the link. I don't like just the link because I want to know whether or not it's worth reading. Someone just saying, hey this is great but without telling me what it is, is not enough for me to go check out links. I probably miss tons of good stuff that way.

When you ask former and current colleagues to describe Patrick Gaspard, the picture they paint is eerily universal.
Barack Obama's political director, they say, is a tireless worker known for putting in 14-hour days. He is a family man, devoted to his wife and two kids beyond any other aspect of his life. He is intensely modest, often shunning credit for the achievements he's helped create. And he may very well be the most brilliant strategist and organizer you have never heard of.

Um, this site has never been a place that was to funnel the poster's opinions to Barack and the others. It was a place to gain info about the candidates, to rally the troops, and to fund raise.
If you have ideas, you should go over to Change.gov, the transition site. You can blog there and also you can submit your ideas.
I think this site can be very important, and that it is a good place for the public to come and stand on their soap boxes, compare notes and bond in general as activists, and I think it needs a full time forum moderator, but I have no idea what thier plans are.
I have made suggestions with some specifics but have not heard anything back. :/

Could it not evolve into a site where we funnel ideas which are truly activist ideas? How can we act without direction? I do see your point about the change.gov web site. Will you ever receive an answer. The moderator or BlogMaster could function to funnel our concerns and ideas, and make certain a list of responses are posted. I am just thinking out aloud. I suppose.

Responding to predictions of record crowds and following up on pledges to make the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama one of the most open ever, his inaugural committee announced today that, for the first time, the entire length of the National Mall will be open to the public.
The goal is for more people than ever before to see the swearing-in within viewing distance of the Capitol. Big screens will be set up so they can see the ceremony closer-up. There are some predictions that up to 5 million spectators will show up to see the nation's first black president sworn in -- a number that would far surpass the current mark of about 1.2 million for Lyndon B. Johnson's inauguration in 1965.

In the parliamentary system the party with a magority elected officials will form a government, however, this year nobody won a magority, therefore, the Coservatives form a minority government and they acted as if they have a clear magority. The PM completely changed into a third world dictator and closed the parliament until Jan 27, because he lost the confidence of the house. This never happened before and it is kind of scary to see a dictator in a parliamentary democracy here in Canada. The guy is really acting as if he the president, there is no president in Canada.

I was just wondering if you can ask all state goverments to buy an American car if they need to replace thier cars, maybe that could help the auto industry also you can ask the rich to invest in America by getting a car made in America. Time for the rich to think of country first we are going to need them to help America out of this mess time for them to spend money on America. Anything made in America they need to buy. Spend the money do not be so Greedy with the money time to spend this Holiday. Buy that American Car. Just an Idea.

In the Senate hearings, I am getting the feeling that some kind of funding will happen. The auto reps seem to be willing to do pretty much anything to get it.
Ford is clearly in better shape than the other two. One senator proposed merging Chrysler and GM as a condition of funding. I think that is the only way Chrysler will survive.
The economist from Moody's is saying that it could cost as much as $125 billion loan to auto companies, but that would be very small compared to the potential loss in the economy if the Detroit 3 fail.

Here's a link to one article that was written today. well.

Also, one of the leaders (op eds) addressed this as
Link
Obama's Kenyan grandfather was caught up during the Mau Mau rebellion against the British colonial powers before Kenya became an independent State, by the British colonial government. He at was tortured and imprisoned by the British trying to get information from him about the Mau Maus.
Obama is the first president in ages that might not be predisposed to like Britain because of the suffering of his family. I find it fascinating. The Brits are really worried that Obama will be cool to Britain because of this and hope he will find it in his heart to forgive them.
Those of you who read Dreams of My Father will remember passages where Obama speaks of his Grandfather's suffering.

I just sent her an omail to see if she's okay.
It is amazing how we are all linked isn't it.
Obama is a post-colonial President and that has significant implications for how he will approach foreign affairs.
He actually understands from his own family history what it means to be a victim of colonial oppression. It means he will be far more sympathetic to the real suffering of people at the grassroots in nations like Palestine (I know it's not a full nation yet), India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, etc. I think that's why Al Qaeda is really afraid of him.

Great Britain burned down our White House some century back. Tony Blair apologized fairly recently for that when he visited. Let's not forget Pearl Harbor and our relationship with Jpan today.
Barack Obama was aware of his grandfather history. He also wrote about his father's.
On a previous trip to Britain in 1996, Barack Obama was a guest at the wedding of his half-sister Auma(lived in England for years), who has since moved back to Kenya.
Barack Obama went to England in July of this year.
He met with both political parties(including Gordon Brown) in London. He met with former PM Tony Blair.

I guess they are used to having Anglophiles in office and Obama, whilst not hating Britian, is not in love either with all things British.

It is owned by Murdoch and is considered pro-Labour, pro government. It is a very establishment rag. They used to be Tory. The Guardian is the more left-leaning rag.
But that has nothing to do with the article really or the points that I was making.
I think it does raise interesting issues and I think it is interesting that they've reported on this two days in a row. Did you go and read the articles? The point is that they are comparing Obama who has a colonial history through his Kenyan parentage, with WASPS who've been presidents before and who were anglophiles. I'm not saying that Obama can't handle it or that it prejudices them against him. I think they're embarassed by it actually.
I'm not saying it's a problem, I'm saying it's interesting that the editorial staff and a columnist do. The Times was also the paper that broke the story about Obama's aunt that was living illegaly in Boston right before the election.

I think this is really about the relationship between Britain and Africa (English Africa) .. the British still have that colonialist tendency in today's Africa (especially in Kenya) .. and now they'll have to essentially report to Barack who is a grandson to a British cook. The British still live in a class based society. I think they're having a hard time with it. It's going to be very interesting to say the least.

I know! I felt so bad because normally when I get up I read the blog from the bottom up and read the most recent posts first.
But this a.m. I started from the point where I went to bed and read down and it took me two or more hours to get through it all and it was like 4:30 a.m. her time before I finally got on. I felt terrible!!!
It was really sweet of her to stay up. I did send her off to bed though.

I wasn't on the blog the last week or so I don't know about any recent Troll attacks but recently I was thinking about all the "Troll" types that were here right up til election day.
Remember "Seeking from WI," "Lisa fr CT," "Brad fr Virgina", "The Nader Debater" person, and a bunch of others?
Those guys were a hoot!

I think that a Latino opponent could take Bush down coupled with the African, Asian, and Caucasian American votes.

Greetings Obama Family,
I am not a conspiracy theorists but as a citizen of this land, I continue to be greatly troubled about the events of 9/11. A lot of explanations provided by the Bush Government simply do not add up. I would love if the in coming administration could re-open the case and find out exactly what happened. It bothers me a lot when a government gives a list of hi-jackers who 'carried out' the atrocious acts and yet some of those so called hi-jackers are still out there and very much alive
Link
. Please, as a nation, lets get to the bottom of this issue.
Lets make a coordinated and concerted effort in lobbying the new Attorney General to re-open the case. Thanking you for your time.
