I'm curious to see what kind of questions President Obama will receive from China'a youth.

I just wrote the same thing on the previous thread.
I think this is a political risk in a way since it is not entirely a sure thing to know what kind of reception he'll get given the cultural and political differences between China and us.
Still, it's a wonderful thing that he is actually SHOWING communist China what true democracy is like with this town hall. No lecture, or threat...just going to their house and showing them it's not so bad and that it's a good thing to be able to question authority and see them up close and personal.

Vero,
I think there is a lesson for us all here as well. We need to stop seeing other cultures through the lenses of the US MEDIA or tea party, and really respect other nations especially if we're Equals. China has been demonized so much by the GOP, who then for the last 8 years did everything to strengthen China. It is just not as black and white. I think this is a WIN WIN for the world, the US, and CHINA.
Politically this is HUGE!

The world can be a better place but not through brute force!
Remembering Eisenhower
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed.
The world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children....
This is not a way of life at all, in any true sense.
Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from an iron cross."

Dan, I don't think there will be any difference. The real disconnect is with older people everywhere, and also Tea Party =Grand Old party. Young people like myself are much more ahead of older folks who tend to be stuck in the past and see things from a place of FEAR rather then Hope.
I am not sure there are any difference between China's youth and America's.

Just saw on CNN International that China state tv won't play the town hall, but a local Shanghai station will. Also, it's going to be on some other Chinese website.
I guess the negotiations between China and the White House on broadcasting this was very back and forth.

Perhaps it understands but is unable to accept it..
The world is changing and has changed little one
Fight it all you want
Post all the drivel here you wish
It will not change this fact
You do nothing but make us stronger
You do understand this right
So go on with your drivel little one
It will change nothing
It will make us donate more
It will make us stand taller
It will make us work harder

Ya know, TARP BAIL-OUT in September, BANK FAILURES, OMNIBUS Bill that BUSH "kicked-down-the-road", funding for 2 WARS, a FAILED Economy and steady economic decline & in RECESSIONS since December 2007 with steady rising UNEMPLOYMENT.
Republicans/Conservatives are "fiscal hawks"? Tell us another LIE.

And he's done it with grace and class and looking so damn handsome. He's brilliant and he's gorgeous.
Wing nuts are just so jealous they could never have put forth such a brilliant man to hold the highest office in the land and be the most powerful man in the world. Too bad. President Obama is in charge until 2016.

I know, it really was a historic event. And yes, I do know that President Nixon went to China back in the 70s. However, I don't remember him holding a town hall with China's youth. While it's true that China may hold a boatload of U.S. debt, but are they going to call it in and force America to renege on its debt and stop purchasing Chinese goods, thereby throwing their own economy into a tailspin? I don't think so and apparently President Obama doesn't think so either. He understands that our two nations need each other and that together we can be quite a force for good. If both our countries are prospering and the youth of China sees what openness and transparency in government can do, then...

It's not that they're introverted, it's government control. I suspect each student was told exactly how to act in this event. That being said, they were simply blown away and star struck by Obama's humility, straightforwardness and message. Obama did a tremendous job.

If we could tax whining we could make up for the lost revenues. I'm always amused by people who complain but have no viable solutions. They have no effective mechanism for convincing people or for getting anyone in office. They just complain and blame others as if that somehow puts them above the problems.

Ben,I have glanced through the blog for the first time in a while, and ignored my impulse to reply to the trolls, but your comment was too much.
"American exceptionalism"? PLEASE! I know you'll all hate me for this comment, but this attitude is exactly why most of the world dislikes America; you believe you are better than every other country in the World. I thank God that you finally have an enlightened President who is attempting to bring your country into the World community.
As a P.S.- Your health care debate is mind-boggling;
God forbid that America should study how it works in other countries. If it's not American, it can't be good, right?!I sincerely hope that some sort of decent health reform comes out of this for you all though.

Yeah, spending due to your beloved Bush sinking this entire economy.
Clinton left him with a surplus (after cleaning up after Bush 41), and Bush 43 squandered it all and left us with the worst economy in an entire generation, two wars, and a huge deficit and debt all for his precious two wars.
Sorry, President Obama didn't do like Eisenhowser, republican, and not involve government spending, which then led us in a Great Depression, in which another democrat (FDR) had to clean up.
You republicans sure do know how to leave a mess. And then stand back and complain when a democrat has to clean it up.

The above article is interesting as it helps explain the McAllen TX health care costs differential.
While there are many legitimate reasons for wide variation in health care costs, there are also reasons such as sham billing and other fraud, as indicated by this article.
The CBO is not competent to analyse or predict 'fraud' savings. They simply don't have the resources that the FBI and law enforcement does, so I think the CBO is stuck to crunching theoretical numbers, which won't include systematic savings in reduction of fraud.
anyway, that being said, the CBO estimate is useful as one source of health care economic analysis (certainly better than the PWC report for sure!).

FLORIDA in the HOUSE! Czarinas, Czars, O family & Mop Brigade!
Good "Monday" Morning!
NOTES FROM PBO'S MEETINGS .....
DRIVING THE DAY: President Obama made news in his Shanghai town hall with a surprisingly pointed statement in support of Internet freedom as a tool for political openness and participation.
His moderator, Ambassador Jon Huntsman, read the questions: "'In a country with 350 million Internet users and 60 million bloggers, do you know of the firewall?' And second, 'should we be able to use Twitter freely?'"
SAID OBAMA: "I've always been a strong supporter of open Internet use. I'm a big supporter of non-censorship. This is part of the tradition of the United States that I discussed before, and I recognize that different countries have different traditions. I can tell you that in the United States, the fact that we have free Internet -- or unrestricted Internet access is a source of strength, and I think should be encouraged."
MORE: "Now, I should tell you, I should be honest, as President of the United States, there are times where I wish information didn't flow so freely because then I wouldn't have to listen to people criticizing me all the time. I think people naturally are -- when they're in positions of power sometimes thinks, oh, how could that person say that about me, or that's irresponsible, or -- but the truth is that because in the United States information is free, and I have a lot of critics in the United States who can say all kinds of things about me, I actually think that that makes our democracy stronger and it makes me a better leader because it forces me to hear opinions that I don't want to hear. It forces me to examine what I'm doing on a day-to-day basis to see, am I really doing the very best that I could be doing for the people of the United States."

Good Morning, Anthony!
I worry not about what the "T's" say about our PBO!
This weekend for some reason I was the target of the "T's" and all it did was remind me of what my Mother, God rest her soul, always told me when I would come home from school crying because unkind things were being said about me.
She always told me if I was being talked about I was popular. It was when the talking stopped that I would have to worry.
And so it goes the same for PBO. He's doing the job "we" elected him to do, and doing a darn good job! The louder the "T's" yell and carry on the better job PBO is doing. IMHO!
They (T's) always yell the loudest when the other team is winning! And you know we are winning!
My MOP has become my American Express Card ...... I never leave home without it! And the best part is no one is making a profit on my mop!

And, yet each year HALF a TRILLION DOLLARS & more in thef BUDGET is Defense Spending. Plus add in the IRAQ & AFGHANISTAN WAR expenditures, COST OVER-RUNS & APPROPRIATIONS SPENDING committed to Defense Contracts is MIND BOGGLING.
Are REPUBLICANS/CONSERVATIVES "Deficit Hawks" or just plain DEFENSE HAWKS? HAWKING all the money for DEFENSE & leaving the "people" without.

People who are blind are the Tea Partiers, Republicans whose only purpose is to oppose everything regardless how good or right it is for the country, people who are loyal to Bush and Cheney (dummies who led us to the economic crisis and budget deficits)and the trolls like Unknown User, Brad from Richmond and etc.
I would take this President over any leader the Tea Partiers and Republicans can find and any leader the world can produce. This man has the compassion, intelligence, vision, character, leadership ability, patience and guts to guide this country through its most diffcult days with two wars, unemployment, fragile economy, healthcare crisis and undoing the national security and image problems created by the last administration. In addition, having to deal with a media who is hell bent on proving that they are not in the tank for President Obama, the media fells to report news objectively.
Unknown User you are exactly what is wrong with the Republican Party and Tea Partiers. All of you are full of hate, selfishness, ignorant and just plain dumb.

Anthony under Obama we have lost 4 million jobs, the debt has increased 13%, and this President and his policies are destroying the value of the dollar. It is Obama who is the failure.

Under A Conservative White House we got this:
- When Clinton left office, the number of uninsured Americans stood at 38.4 million. By the time Bush left office that number had grown to just over 46.3 million, an increase of nearly 8 million or 20.6 per cent.
- Under Clinton the total number of Americans in poverty declined 16.9 per cent; under Bush it increased 26.1 per cent.
- Under Clinton the number of children in poverty declined 24.2 per cent; under Bush it increased by 21.4 per cent.
- When Bill Clinton left office after 2000, the median income-the income line around which half of households come in above, and half fall below-stood at $52,500 (measured in inflation-adjusted 2008 dollars). When Bush left office after 2008, the median income had fallen to $50,303. That's a decline of 4.2 per cent.
Now lets talk about Job Growth:
The nation's job base grew at an annual rate of 0.28 percent during Bush's eight years as president - by far the slowest pace for any of the 11 presidents in the postwar era.
Total 2008 job losses: 2.6 million
Conservatives have a pathetic record for the Bush era

Please don't engage Brad. It doesn't matter how many facts you post, Brad is here to repeat the daily right wing talking points. He will ignore the facts, and continue his daily ritual of Obama bashing.

Conservatives are full of sh*t on being "fiscally responsible"
- President Bush expanded the federal budget $700 billion through 2008
- President Bush created a Medicare drug entitlement that will cost an estimated $800 billion in its first decade.
- President Bush presided over a $2.5 trillion increase in the public debt through 2008.
The leaders of the GOP in power today in Congress are the same ones who presided over all of this reckless spending.

Oh Brad,
The thing is, I hope all you conservatives alike, have a good time bashing this POTUS while things are bad, because eventually things will turn around.... And then, you all will not have squat to criticize him about... Mark those words Bradley. Even if it is a Year or two before positve job growth, this POTUS will be heralded for getting us out of the brink of disaster. NOTHING you or you're conservative buddies can do about it, but sit back and enjoy the ride...

If I am not mistaken the job lost began on the watch of Bush and continued through the first 10 months of his administration. All economists will tell you that when a country experiences an economic crisis such as ours (created by Bush/Cheney)job losses will occur and that jobs will not return until after the economy rebounds.
Our economy is just beginning to rebound thanks to President Obama and his administration and job losses are beginning to decline which is a sign of economic improvement. Jobs alway lag behind an improving economy. Of course, Tea baggers like yourself and Republicans would not understand that piece of information.

Anthony what you do not understand is you do not grow an economy by increasing taxes. You do not grow the economy by giving people $14 tax cuts. This President has been a disaster on job creation.

Anthony I am blinded by the love I have for my Country. In spite of those who do not have that love I can only say, I am sorry. I know the struggle to make my government respect me as a citizen and to live up to the words our ancestors fought and died to protect. Our President understands this and works for it - I see that clearly and so does the world.

I am guilty of engaging yesterday, but it really isn't productive. We should not give in to the temptation. Just let them talk to themselves as Brad repeats the same talking points daily. Obviously he doesn't have anything better to do. He can't change our minds, and one has to ask the question-why is he constantly bogging here? He belongs on a right wing blog, so obviously since he is here everyday he has to be getting paid to blog here. There is no way that I would go to a right wing blog and blog my views. It would be an utter waste of time. Brad said he had 10 days off or work or something like that the other day so are we going to let him ruin this blog everyday? He is achieving his goal of running people off. We should be above all of that. Stay above the fray people. I'm also talking to myself trust me.

This whole thread belongs to Brad and now UU. Then when waldrus shows up it will be The Troll Show all day.
I said this yesterday and I'll say it again today. Trolls return because somebody bothers to react to their hook, line and sinker. They return because the more response they get the more familiar and comfortable they become. They return because they are seen as a form of entertainment by some. They return because they somehow feel invited and engaged. They are overtaking every single thread every single day and I'm not interested in helping to make that OK.
This is President Obama's and OFA's blog.

Brad,
Have you notice the DOW is at 10,404? You realize we are only 3,600 from 14,000. Imagine where the DOW will be once the jobs return.
O family maybe the best way to respond to the Trolls is to provide the facts and talk about the positive things the media and others seem to brush over or forget.
O family remember pundits like CNBC and others were blaming President Obama for decline in DOW, said he could not take GMAC and Dodge/Chrylser through bankruptcy in 60 days, and would create a trade war by forcing China to play fair. All I hear right now are crickets.

People who respond to trolls make the incorrect assumption that trolls can be reasoned with or that they care about logic or evidence or the truth. That's not what trolls do. They don't come here to learn anything. Their goal is to disrupt and hijack every thread and derail our energy from getting anything accomplished. That's it. So engaging with them only furthers the disruption and invites them to continue this day and night.

Very well said, Tori! Good for you for speaking out.
I was attacked throughout the weekend but I just chose to ignore and move on.
To engage with "those we can not mention" is a waste of my time and a part of my life I will never get back. My time, which is mostly working for PBO, is too valuable. So far I have not seen one statement from "those we can not mention" worthy of my time.

I have figured it out:
Send film crews to the offices of key Dems who are sandbagging and are continuing to lower the bar on the Health-care reform legislation as it passes through the Senate. Do a documentary on the process of the legislating that takes place during the Historic Health-care reform Senate bill debate.
On one hand blow smoke up the backsides of these politicians (important for them) and on the on the other document the process for the library of Congress and American people alike (important for America).
Just imagine how you would feel if you were the one on the business end of the camera during this high level of scrutiny--I think it could be very effective if done right i.e. moving the process along and getting something meaningful accomplished in Health-care reform.
Why not find the camera crews who filmed that great commercial for Florida residents during the '08' campaign (the great something or other??).
Today I am going to be meeting with one of the local war protesters to convince him to continue to support the Presidents agenda using his people.
