Yes we are. But sometimes you blame the one you love the most. I think people really like Obama and they hate Congress, so they're aiming all of their hopes and their anger at him because they've given up on Congress.
Anyway, THIS IS A MUST WATCH ADDRESS.
BTW - Congrats on first!

I did, and they started off ok, but then quickly disintegrated. Obama is a monster to some of those people...it's bizarre.
I can't believe Democrats are carrying the "stimulus is a failure" talking point, but for those who wanted a bigger stimulus (without giving any idea on how it would have gotten through Congress), this is a time to score "I told you so" points on the blogsphere, despite the damage it's doing to the president's credibility. Such short term thinking.

Daniel Gross (a columnist for Newsweek) said the 'stimulus is failure' meme is similar to the 'Obama Bear Market' meme that developed in March.
It's basically another 'everything is Obama's fault' thing that'll eventually come to pass.
There are a couple of progressive independents and center-lefters on the DKos who talk some sense, but it gets lost in the hate spew.

Yes, I agree with you on the 'stimulus' being labelled a 'failure' by political foes.
It's definately one of the issues with doing the right thing - that those against us will try to play both sides of the game.
To be fair, theoretically, folks like Krugman are on the record strongly urging a larger stimulus, with more infrastructure (and theoretically I agree with him). Yet Paul Krugman failed to provide, as you mention any practical way of getting a larger recovery bill through Congress.
The criticism isn't really about Obama's failure, it was after all, Congress that created the legislation for him to sign. Are they suggesting he should have vetoed it? (I'm sure Paul isn't suggesting that - as time was of the essense with the 'stimulus).
I think with time mrational people will realize the 'failure' doesn't lay at the feet of Obama on this, but with all the 'debate' and those resisting spending to recover from the financial precipice. In the end there will always be about 26% completely opposed to anything we do. I learned long ago "you make someone like you" (which accounts for why I don't win many popularity contests :)
regards as always,
Lee

But even Krugman isn't beating his chest screaming that the stimulus is a failure. He's saying that his fears about it seem to be happening, but that it is better than nothing. He wants us to have a second stimulus on the table, so that's his new focus.
I can appreciate that.
What I can't appreciate from people allegedly on our side, is nothing but doom and gloom and nasty character assaults against POTUS. He acknowledged that the stimulus wasn't perfect when he signed it. But it was near what he wanted, so he signed it. NOTHING is perfect, yet for him, perfection is demanded.

I completely agree with you. I try to remind myself that it's a compliment when our critics hold us to a higher standard than they hold themselves (or previous administrations). At the same time, let's go for 'perfect' knowing we will fall short and always recieve criticism - ultimately (hopefully) it will be viewed in proper context.

Lee

I personally believe the stimulus WILL WORK. Apparently A LOT of the projects haven't started yet. I wondered what was taking so long. didn't know at first the state Gov's had 45 DAYS to sign for the stimulus money. Those of us unfortunate enough to have a Repub Gov who waited until the last few days to sign have not gotten infrastucter money yet. The jobs are approved, crews hired-- we are waiting for THE STATE to have a final meeting sometime next month. We are already approved so it should be immediate after that , or so I'm told. I should tell you-- I live in a Democrat "black hole" part of the state. I live in a small, rural town. We have no Democratic party office here. ( do have repub). This town is made up of a vast majority of redneck conseratives. We have already received a large amount of money for our school system----and we are getting over 6 MILLION DOLLARS !!!--for our waste water and water plants !!!!The officals i talked to at city hall are appreciative of this--as I am!! This is expected to create a lot of jobs !!!---So , so much for the conservative theory that the stimulus money is only going to places who back the President. I'm betting that as in our case, the hold up is with the states. There is a lot of paperwork, but i just don't believe Repub held states are really busting it to get the funds out quickly-that would make it good for the PBO. We are dealing with slimeballs here !!!

The stimulus is a two year program. Once a good portion is out there you'll see dividends.
Many states have already expanded unemployment benefits and the middle class tax cuts are already out there.
The infrastructure projects take longer.

I am not a big fan of Eric Cantor.
I am Jewish, and it is a big "pet peeve" for me to see Jewish people in powerful positions that are unethical or put their own personal ambition over ethics...
Eric Cantor is one of them...He is very intelligent and educated, enough to know that the GOP platform is disaster for the middle-class.
Lieberman I dislike for the same reason...maybe he personally believes his foreign policy stance but they are disasterous....His policies towards Iran with combination of him being Jewish I don't thinks is good for the Jewish community, if those in Iran thinks he somehow represents the Jewish people or Jews in the United States...
Cantor's goal is to became the house GOP leader which I predict will happen in the next few years...He has the same amount of energy as Obama, speaks well, and could become a problem is house leader...

I actually think Eric Cantor will be a surprise candidate in 2012....
He is young (late 40's, looks 30, looks younger then Obama), he has a lot of charisma, he speaks very well, he has full conservative credibility as the #2 member of the house meaning he can try and present himself as more moderate and still keep the conservative base, he is one of the 2-3 most senior Republicans in Washington...He is very politically savvy, good at making attacks and "twisting the knife" good with media, on message..and could get all the house GOP members and senators to endorse him, he could raise a lot of money....
Of all the candidates from 2008 (which I will include Palin in as she was the VP nominee) they will finish in this order.
1) Romney (super rich and corporations will, big money will be behind him, esp. as GOP candidates enter the race the same time (march/april 2011) the super rich will pay their higher tax payments when Obama repeals the Bush tax cuts in 2010).
2) Palin (her supporters are energized and motivated..She appeals to this certain section of voters but they are not enough to win a primary or GE)
3) Huckabee (won Iowa in 2008, will lose a lot of voters to Palin, but would for sure finish in top 6 overall so you have to include in top 3 from 2008.
NEW CANDIDATES
1) Jon Huntsman (UT GOV, now Ambassador to China) only one that could come within 10 points of Obama. Will he run? How can he run against the same administration he is apart of?
2) Eric Cantor (#2 in House GOP seniority, seems best candidate to represent a "Republican Revolution" as he is the second coming of Newt Gingrich.
3) Newt Gingrich (see above). Will def. run I think.
Others that would be strong candidates if they rean..Charlie Crist, GOV FL (won't run..will run in 2016 focused on 2010 Senate), Bobby Jindal (focused on 2011 LA re-election, will be discussed as VP, party will try and force him to run to add diversity.
People on this blog accuse me of being a Republican as I discuss the viability of who will win the next GOP primary. I am not a Republican.
Best ticket I see is:
GOP Presidential Nominee : Jon Huntsman
GOP Vice Presidential Nominee : Eric Cantor

President Obama is brilliant I couldn't agree more with that statement. We are also so lucky to have him as our President-I thank God daily for that.
Can you imagine what our country would look like if McBushey has won? That thought scares the heck out of me. Thank God that we have President Obama working for US!
The media in this country and some of the people in this country do not want to understand the very serious and difficult problems that drove our beloved country into the ground will take a while to be fixed. President Obama has no magic wand to wave to fix all of these problems over night. He probably wishes he did but he doesn't. People who think that the stimulus has failed, that President Obama isn't doing his job etc. etc. are just full of CRAP! The disaster that Buzzard Bush and his sidekick criminal vice president made were so bad that things are going to take while to get back on track.
Do you people not understand that Bushy practicly destroyed our country? He brought our economy to a near collapse, he started the Iraq war under false pretenses and lied to the American people, he said torturing people was ok, etc. etc.
President Obama inherited all these disasters from his former predcessor he DID NOT CREATE THESE DISASTERS!! Get that through your THICK HEADS people who blame President Obama for all the problems our country is facing.
All the Rethugs party is good at is destroying our country and not helping anyone but themselves.
In time I believe that President Obama will bring our country back to prosperity and life in America will be good again.
God Bless you President Obama! U rock!

President Obama makes me so proud! I look at all the crowds wherever he has traveled overseas and see a real excitement, a real feeling of hope! He is not a rock star. He is an honest, decent human being who is the recognized "leader" of the free world right now and the rest of the world seems to be very comfortable with that. Isn't is a shame that there are those in our own country who will do everything they can to fight him and undermine him?

For our "educated" guest here who doesn't seem to understand the English language:
undermine: 1. to dig beneath; excavate ground from under, so as to form a tunnel or mine 2. to wear away and weaken the supports of [erosion is undermining the wall] 3. to injure, weaken, or impair, esp. by subtle, stealthy, or insidious means - SYN. weaken
I knew exactly what I meant when I used the term undermining, Bradley, it's a shame that you didn't. Maybe you should have checked it out first before you made an ass of yourself.

I'm proud of him too and agree DDD. I would like to add that it is a shame PBO is not appreciated in this country. People here need to realize PBO cannot do everything by himself at the exact moment they want it.
Appreciation for all PBO does do and patience for allowing him to do all he wants in his own timing is needed. I know politically he has a sense of timing and knowing how much he can do at once and get approved. He has an understanding of our Constitution and knows it is important not to overstep his authority and let those in Congress do their jobs. He also understands the political adversaries and their need to discredit him. I know from following his career he really does intend to do what he has said. Timing is important.
We may think throwing everyone out of Congress and starting over is the answer but it is not likely to work. I trust PBO's instincts and have no reason so far to distrust his desire to help all of us. It is my desire to help him help us.
BTW, Rep. Mark Kirk Repub from IL was the person that went to China to tell them not to loan us money and not trust us paying them back when Pres. Obama was working to get the Stimulus plan through. When I first heard about him I heard he was an IL State Senator but now I am hearing he is in the US House from IL. So I am confused on his exact job. He was rumored to be running for Obama's Sen. seat in 2010 but he said he wasn't going to. Rachel Maddow said he was the person having gone to China this week. It was her show I first heard about what he had done in China. I wondered then why what he was doing was not considered treason?

One interesting (at least to me) implication of the earth's spin direction is that it creates tradewinds which blow from Africa across the caribbean and then on up to the gulf and east coast. Sailor's of old went with the tradewinds returning to Western Europe via the northern atlantic (a great circle route).
This 'path' has significantly effected human history and 'enabled' things like natural resources, slave trade, and military dominance.
To the historians out there, it's interesting to consider what human history would look like if the earth simply spun in the opposite direction (the tradewinds were reversed). The wind has significant impact not just in terms of extreme weather, but also in much more subtle ways.
I know the above is an odd observation, and in no way mean to diminish mankind's moral imperative to hold ourselves to a standard that doesn't waver in the slightest breezes.
Barack was awesome again today!

Everyone is being asked to write letters to the editor of their local papers. I am posting a Canadian perspective for all members of this blog to use to submit to your papers, pass on to others to submit to their papers, etc. It will help to de-bunk those ridiculous rumors about govt. run HC.
I am 59 years old and was born in a Canadian hospital, no charge to the birth family.
We have always had free-choice of which Doctor we want to see; if we are wanting a 2nd, 3rd, or 100th opinion, that is our choice as well.
When I was 6 my father became seriously ill from an intestinal problem he initially contracted during WW11. (he served from 1939-1945) At the same time as my Dad became ill, I ended up with double pneumonia. Our family Doctor came to our home to check me out-needed hospitalization. As well, the specialist came out for my Dad - he also needed hospitalization. No charge, thank God. Mind you, my Mom made them both lemon pies!
At age 17 I required reconstructive surgery on my nose resulting from long term effects of catching the sun instead of the baseball when I was 13. Waited 2 weeks as it was elective. No charge.
24 years ago, my pregnancy follow-ups (by my chosen Dr) and hospital stay - no charge, other than a fee for a private room, covered by a reasonably priced, extended health plan. (I think we paid $35/month)
Our son has a congenital heart defect and his progress is monitored by our chosen family doctor, along with specialists. No charge. No waiting; in fact they call him to remind him of his appointment as needed.
In an unrelated incident, our son was experiencing severe headaches about a year ago. He was very worried, went to his chosen Dr. and had a CT scan within a week.
Two years ago, I suffered a stroke. Hospitalized for 3 months, etc. I Am still recuperating. No Charge, except for 2 ambulance trips @ $50 each. If this happened in USA, my hubby & I would be living in tent city.

Canada Barb 4 Obama,
I appreciate you sharing with us this personal and touching story. I also agree the Canadian system is better.
However, I am not sure how relevant it is that an overwhelming amount of Canadians support the Canadian system, a number that has been put in some surveys at 80% or higher.
Just because Canadians are happy with it, doesn't mean if the U.S. took on this system there would be the same support levels. Americans want freedom and choice, they also are against taking away the free market or market mechanism and the government just taking over major parts of the economy.
The American system HAS TO be different then the Canadian system...this doesn't mean that it will be better then the Canadian system or that the Canadian system will be worse then what Obama puts together...It just has to be different...
Look at attitudes that are different in the U.S. and Canada. You ask people in Canada, do you think someone in poverty who can't afford it, the government should provide health care and they shouldn't be denied it...almost all the people surveyed in Canada will say yes.
In the U.S. however it is different...people in U.S. that are working don't want to be paying for someone else's healthcare who isn't working or doesn't have the motivation to get job skills or find ways to make more then the minimum wage...That is how they see it.
In 2010 their will be mid-term elections. Every member of the House and close to 40% of the Senate are up for re-election, as are 3/4 of U.S. Governors..Obama is up for re-election in 2012. People in Canada will not be allowed to cast votes, it will only be American citizens, so in some sense it is irrelevant what system the Canadians like.
Americans want Freedom and Choice. And you should note that the Canadian system has been around for much longer (75 years?) so it has had time to work itself out. Americans will expect the current system to work out right away...If it takes more then a few years Obama won't get re-elected and neither will the Democrats in congress/senate.
People in the U.S. DON'T WANT solely government rn health care. On top of that in the U.S. (I am not sure if same is in Canada) THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH PRIMARY CARE DOCTORS.

Hi Peg:
I'm just back from the Unity March in DC. Sadly, the attendance was very disappointing. More than 3,000 people signed up for the march, and a very tiny fraction of that number were actually there.
I met Reverend Dunning, and he is a tremendously gracious individual. I think he was broken hearted about the attendance, but we went on with the ceremony as best we could.
A young boy who traveled from New Mexico for the event, recited the "Yes We Can" speech from memory. I was moved to tears. I was in New Hampshire when our President first gave that speech, and I will never, ever forget it.
So, I shared a beautiful day in DC with my daughter and some other lovely people, but I feel really bad for the Rev. because the attendance was so, so low.
The good news... Not a teabagger in sight.

sure does, but I am afraid they have such a strong hold on this debate that getting anything that makes since will be close to impossible.
I think they will listen to vote for the public option, but think it will be so watered down that it doesn't mean anything.
You do know that the insurers want everyone to be covered, because it just gives them a new pool of customers. But, what will be the real reform is what they do with those customers once they get them. If there is no public option then we know what will happen, most will be purged, some will go via cost too high and the rest will have policies that mean nothing once they start using them.
There is something empowering about this story. |

A homeless man's bid for city council - From the few quotes I've read from him, he sounds like he would bring a useful perspective to the city council.
It's also interesting how staying in a homeless shelter (which apparently is a recent thing for him) is a barrier. I can see how rules can be written, coupled with zoning to take redistricting to the 'next level' of exclusion - not only keep the voters divided, but keep candidates from running. Zone a low income housing just outside some 'legal limit' and coupled with a rule requiring people live within that legal limit to run for office is an effective barrier against the poor running for office. Since they would have particularly high popular support at this time I expect to see this tactic expressly employed in the near term rather than incidentally as in the homeless man's bid for council above.

MJ was an American and a global figure who did so much to help so many, and they act like he was someone who spent his life in and out of prison. No one shows him visiting troops or touring the USO w/Bob Hope as a youngster, etc. And now, a town in Ukraine might actually show our own US Congress up. They are actually listening to a proposal to rename their town "Jackson" in honor of MJ. We're not even asking for that over here.

They want it without regard to how the process may effect others. In the end though, they want PBO to succeed. They want healthcare reform with a strong public option (this is of course after finally accepting that single payer is off the table).

I do believe he visited Egypt (you know where the Pyramids are). Last I checked that's Africa. Is that why Palin thought Africa was a country? Is this like the 'real America' part of our country versus the other part.
I'm just curious because it sure seems that there is a separation. Is this a class or economic separation? What's up with this? I'd really like to know.

Sub-saharan Africa has a different history, than say Tunisia or Morocco (think the Mediterranean), or Egypt (which has a very Middle-Eastern flair to it). Slavery affected the sub-Saharan area differently, colonialism affected that area differently. I'm pretty sure religion is also something that differentiates the areas as well.

Thanks Vero and I'm sure a lot has to do with the geography, history, religion, etc. I guess what I'm asking is, why does there seem to be a pretense that the eastern part is somehow not on the African continent? Africa is as diverse as Asia, but you don't hear anybody chopping it up as if parts of it weren't there.
Why is it that any reference to Egypt is as if it sits alone? Is it religious in that if we acknowledge Egypt as African, then all of biblical folks would therefore be African? Naw, that couldn't be it.
The media and many other venues (even educational), gloss over this all the time.
It's just reminding me of how divided this country is by some folks. The real Americans and the other Americans. If you're from Africa, then why the sub-set, unless it means one is better/worse than the other.

You've identified something that has always amaze me. Northern Africa has been treated as if it were another continent and it's inhabitants are not "African". If you really think about it that would make the beautiful seductress, Cleopatra, who charmed the pants off of both Julius Caesar and Mark Anthony, African!! Hannibal would be African! One of the seven woners of the world, the great pyramids, would have been built by Africans. (Maybe Napolitan would not have broken the African noses off the Sphinx.) Europe would have to acknowlege advanced intelligence in people of color. Now you know we can't have that!!!!!!!!

I understand what you are saying, however I am Nigerian. We don't call ourselves, "African." We call ourselves, Nigerian since the country where my ancestors are from is Nigeria.
Egypt, you are right, tends to be divorced from "Africa." I cannot stress to you how the religious and colonial differences of East and West play a role in how the countries in those 2 sides have developed. While I do think race plays a role highlighting the separation of East and West Africa, I'd venture to say religion plays a larger role, as well as biblical and colonial differences.
Think of North America. We're one big continent, but we've managed to split ourselves up - central America, United States of America, Canada...these are different regions with different evolutions of history, so they aren't lumped together.

Just wanted to clarify...that while most Nigerians will say they are Nigerian before saying a blanket statement that "we are African," Nigerians still acknowledge their African-ness and they're place and part within the continent.
On the other hand, I think, perhaps, those N. African countries, and countries like Egypt, are quicker to point out there country before their continent. So therein lies a source for the separation of those countries from most of Africa. That is unfortunate.

Thank you Vero, for the North America comparison. Yes people from Nigeria would self-identify as Nigerian, knowing they are from the continent of Africa. Just as I am an American living in a country of North America.
Now I have to study on how we differenciate ourselves on this continent Canadian, Mexican, American. I don't think either country claims to not belong to North America.

This is from wiki:
Sub-Saharan Africa is a geographical term used to describe the area of the African continent which lies south of the Sahara, or those African countries which are fully or partially located south of the Sahara. It contrasts with North Africa, which is part of the Arab World.
The Sahel is the transitional zone between the Sahara and the tropical savanna (the Sudan region) and forest-savanna mosaic to the south. The Horn of Africa and large parts of Sudan are geographically part of sub-Saharan Africa, but nevertheless show strong Middle Eastern influence and are also part of the Arab world.
The Sub-Saharan region is also known as Black Africa, in reference to its "black" populations. Notably commentators in Arabic in the medieval period used a similar term, bilâd as-sűdân which literally translates to "land of the blacks" in contrast with populations of the classic Islamic world.

Hmmmm, let me think..... OK, BULL!!!
Geographically everything and everybody on the continent of Africa is AFRICAN. Why are they trying to re-write to he boundaries? Oh I see, since there is Middle Eastern influence then it's not really African. This is beginning to support a theory I'm unfortunately developing about this whole thing. It's religious and there is an aversion to having all those biblical folks, including the Bible coming out of Africa. Alas, it's still a black/white thing.
Thanks for the reference. I've just given my family an assignment. My granddaughter is not going to like this as I'm going to have her explore this with me. She's the same age as Malia, and we're going to take the journey.
Just sayin... there's more to this than meets the eye.

Your question highlights the fact that we need to start thinking of Africa as a continent, not a country. Like any continent there are diverse histories, cultures, and religions which require a different way of thinking, acting, and relating to each region and each individual country.

Ok.
So this woman said that Obama's not doing enough with the uprising in Iran. She thinks he should, "support the protesters" (whatever that entails is your guess), reject the election, and cut all ties to Iran.
We don't have any diplomatic ties to them. We don't have an embassy there. We give them no aid. What ties are there to cut?
What people like her want, but don't want to verbalize, is for us to invade and overthrow that country. They want our men and women to go over there, die and get killed, to hopefully allow someone other than Ahmadenejad can take over, and hopefully they will be more open and pro-American.
No thank you. If a civil war breaks out or something like that - then I can entertain us intervening. But I cannot support our military being used to nation build in Iran.

Maybe it'll be rebroadcast later.

I actually think that was smart. After hearing the chaos of Clinton's trip I wouldn't want that with POTUS right now.
Moreover, I don't know how images of 100s of 1000s of African people mobbing him, singing and dancing for him, and just showering him with African styled joy, would've played back at home. It seems like people are getting jittery again with the economy, and the narrative of him being MIA during a week where the stimulus was being questioned and health care was hitting turbulence, has been picking up steam. So I think he needed to keep this trip looking all business.

i really couldn't disagree more. It is a lie and trickery from the Media and GOP to say that the ARRA didn't work. That assumes that it stopped working, when in fact IT IS JUST STARTING! There will and were already people saying days after he became president that the economy was his fault. Even 2 weeks after the Recovery was enacted, the Haters were saying it had failed. Can't you see that it doesn't matter what he does or doesn't do, they will NEVER EVER accept him as equal???
So i think this trip among people who LOVE HIM, appreciate him, Respect Him, Adore him was exactly what the president needed. He will need all this love he got from the people, who waited in the sun, old women who came out for him, he will need all their energy to deal with all the HATRED that exist here(the place where SLAVES CAME). It is Ironic, Slaves left Cape Coast, to America to work for the white men. TOday PBO left cape coast a FREE man, for America to deal with the white men who do not like him(Right wing extremists). But i think this TIME OUR ANCESTORS WILL BE PROUD, HE IS THE LEADER OF THE FREEWORLD, and As much as they can hate, HE IS GONNA SUCCEED.
Gladly the president knows the game some are playing, and i am glad he really bathed in the Love of the African people. No more APPOLOGIES.

I do think his short trip in Ghana probably filled his heart and lifted him very high, which you are correct, he'll need to fight these people back here. I'm sure he received many prayers and blessings from the people he met today.
All I was saying was that politically speaking, images of 1000s upon 1000s of African people celebrating and shouting, and applauding him, and reacting the way we all have when we were at his rallies, may not have translated well back here, especially taking into consideration the shoddy way the media has been covering this trip all week. Think about it, the images people will more than likely take away are Malia's peace t-shirt and the POTUS non-oogle at that girl's behind.

Newspaper writers aren't losing their jobs because of bloggers..
Newspaper writers are losing their jobs because the advertisers who essentially support these newspapers get twice as high a return on their investment advertising on Google. Advertising on Google doesn't incur the expense of printing the ad (and related content) and allows them a focused strategy showing people only the ad if they searched for related keywords...
That is why newspapers are getting thinner and thinner...
People spending more time online obviously helps bloggers...1.7 million profiting means little....I let godaddy put ads on pages of mine I haven't yet launcehd, on these domains...if one person/month lands on the page I get 5 cents...Yes I am gettign paid but it isn't large income...
450,000 people have blogging as their primary source of income? That sounds very high...too high...maybe some of these people just have no other income....are college students or retired or whatever and if they make $1,000 from blogging that is more then their other income?
Newspapers have to have viable online versions, that embrace interactive media....have video on it, blogs, let people comment on stories, have other news content...
I know companies that don't advertise in newspapers or print any more for this reason...
The problem is online their is no standard...to sell subscriptions to a newspaper and have money to send reporters all over the world you need a certain reputaiotn or credibility or people won't subscribe....these bloggers don't need this...

While you are thinking about Ghana...
Many of you probably already know all about Kiva.
People need small loans for very small businesses; other people chip in even smaller amounts so the business can open, expand, or improve.
Right now in Ghana people have been approved for loans for $350 to $1075; many have already raised quite a bit and just need a little more (like of the $675 one woman needs for her cereals business she already has $200). People who lend choose how much to lend -- many do only $25. Then when it is repaid, instead of taking it back they make a new loan.
Here's the link to the Kiva home page where you can mouse around to find people in different industries and different countries.
Link
The repayment rate at Kiva, like for most micro-lending, is super (98.50% Repayment rate for $38,070,010 in ended loans).
On the web site, people describe what they need the loans for. There are local organizations that work with them. You can get information about the history of loans and payments -- by entrepeneurs, organizations, countries, (maybe industries, I'm not sure). You can follow the repayment success of the very entrepeneur you fund.
Try it, you'll like it! You can also give gift certificates so other folks can chose who/what to support as a micro-lender.

Oops, the cereals entrepeneur got her whole loan!
Maybe President Obama has a lot of people thinking about people in Ghana!
Here's the story for the woman who needed $675 in the Kiva:
"Felicia Nkrumah is thirty-six years old and divorced with three children, a boy and two girls, who are currently in junior high and primary school. She lives with her children in a rented apartment in a town called Wiawso in the western region of Ghana. Wiawso is a farming and commercial town in the region. Felicia is a trader, selling cereals such as maize at the local market in her community. She buys bags of maize from nearby farming communities. She also treks to other towns to sell on their market days, and she supplies some vendors as well. Felicia has been in business for over ten years and wants a loan to buy maize in bulk to expand her business. She wants to give her children a quality education and also to improve upon her standard of living."

Well, here we are just 40 days after GM filed chapter 11 and the world didn't come to an end.
We bailed out GM, gave them billions of dollars out of fear that if they went bankrupt that the world would stop turning.
It didn't...
But, the world DID stop turning for the bond holders who lost tens of billions of dollars when GM was protected under Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Why did we bail them out again?
I am tired of the greed, the chasing dollars, the lobbyists, the fear, the angst, the proliferation of deceit that runs through the business world. I am tired of big business owning our congress people (both republicans AND democrats). I am tired of the status quo, tired of sick people becoming poor sick people.
Money is the root of all evil indeed. If healthcare reform is killed (like it was in 1993-1994) there will never be another chance to reform it.
Sorry...but today my clarity on the situation seems sharper than usual.
Let's get this done President Obama. This is what it is all about.
Call and write your congress people and tell them to support A Public Option.
And, while you are at it, tell them to listen to you, the citizen and voter, rather than the lobbyists.

I think that the "world ending bankruptcy" that they were facing was a different one than what the auto task force did with them. Without them, it would've been a wind up, shut down styled bankruptcy. This one was not like that. It was a shed excess weight, streamline, downsize, and get to work one.
I received a newsletter summing up the bankruptcy process that GM and Chrysler went thru. I haven't read it all carefully and fully, and I don't practice bankruptcy law, so it's going to take me a while to get a good handle on it, but this is some historic stuff that they did by getting thru so smoothly and quickly. And from what I gathered from a quick skim is that the government involvement, not just the money, but the focus they gave to the process, was highly beneficial.
I think this could work, and we may very well at least break even. And if we can get our money back, AND save and rehabilitate our auto industry, I'd say that's a successful outcome.

Well, actually the money wasn't there for them to do a bankruptcy back when they received the first loan. Moreover, the Obama administration was brilliant in that they did some serious research and came up with this type of bankruptcy structure.
I read an article in the NY times about this bankruptcy going down in history because it was so swift and because of the type of bankruptcy they went through.
It wasn't a straight ch. 11...it was called a 542 or something like that. Thats not used too much on big corporations....and was very risky.
So kudos to our brilliant President & smart people in the administration!

All Obama's Fault!
Our national debt doubled from 2000 to 2008.
We waged war in two countries while lowering taxes (especially for the wealthiest of Americans). This was a first for the U.S. and once again proving this is a bad, bad idea.
The economy was in the tank beginning in the fall of 2007. Henry Paulson (Secretary of the Treasury under Bush) was the one who lobbied Congress to pass looser banking laws while he was the CEO of Goldmann Sachs. These laws allowed massive over-leveraging by AIG and other to the tune of 30 to 1.
Henry Paulson, as you recall, was the one who pushed the big-bank bailouts last fall. He was, let me reminder you, CEO of Goldmann Sachs before becoming Bush's Treasury Secretary.
Russel, I believe your outrage is real...but horribly misplaced.

Jim,
Russell knows it's not President Obama's fault. He knows it's is the result of at least 8 years of total misguided policies designed to help the ultra rich while saying a big fat "eff- you" to regular poor folks like us.
Where was all the ire when George W. Bush LIED to this entire nation and said Sadam Hussein had WMD?
Where was the ire when George W. Bush turned tail in Afghanistan to pick a fight with Iraq?
Where was the ire when deregualtion allowed specualtors to drive up the price of oil and other profitable commodities at our expense?
Where was the ire when George W. Bush decided he was going to get everything he wanted via executive order and recess appointments?
Huh?? Where was it then?
Please spare me that fake drama.

Bush and the GOP created such a huge stinking pile of shit of an ecomony what with lowering taxes during war time, doubling the national debt, and loosening banking laws that created the biggest housing bubble and subsequent collapse in U.S. history. Now, when handed to Obama, the GOP ditto heads say "okay then, fix it!".
Five months later the economy is still struggling...so...the GOP is blaiming the Obama administration.
Hey ditto heads; we may have been born at night, but it sure as hell wasn't LAST night.

Let us not forget that Bush and the G-NO-P ALWAYS hid the true cost of the wars from Americans. Never was included in the budget figures. NEVER.
Remember those $600 stimulus checks we got in 2008? That should have been our major clue that something was about to hit the doo-doo fan. That's an example of a broke ass stimulus. The G-NO-P loves to point fingers and say someone else has messed up. They never want to admit that can't govern their way our of anything. Can't finish a fight. Can't make an economy thrive. Can't develop technology. Can't save an ecology. Can't educate its citizens. They only know how to lie, cheat, steal and have their mamas and papas pay off their mistresses.

Fast facts about stimulus package
published February 20, 2009
President Obama signed American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, (economic stimulus package), into law.
Fact No. 1: The stimulus package is the largest tax cut in American history.
That's right, bill that every single House Republican voted against represents largest tax cut in American history.
In total, it's a $282 billion tax cut.
...stimulus has now created tax cuts for 95 percent of working Americans right when they need it.
Fact No. 2: The stimulus plan will protect and create 3-4 million jobs.
Fact No. 3: There are no earmarks in the stimulus.
Opponents have tried to paint it as wasteful, but that's misleading at best.
All spending is directed by the governors of each state to prevent earmarks.
(Under-highway-tunnel-access for animals was Charlie Crist (FL) Republican Governor's project.)
Fact No. 4: Unlike past plans, this stimulus has unprecedented levels of transparency and accountability built into it.
It will take a long time to undo the economic damage of the past eight years.

The only issues with the stimulus bill were the amendments the Republicans put in.
The "buy American" provision, basically means that every single subcontractor, even one getting paid just $25,000 has to get a lawyer and spend money and time getting certified that their components were all made in America, and we have to pay 5X more for parts that are cheaper elsewhere, or not be able to build stuff because that part isn't made here or something inferior has to be used...
That is what is delaying everything, all these projects..what the House Republicans put in before they voted against it...

Please bear with me, but I think this is important.
I have called (more than once) Senator Bill Nelson's office about Health Care. I have not been pleased at all with him or his office staffs response. Well, this is where it gets goofy, he is a MEMBER of this group! OMG!
Please read this long article about the book written by Rachel's guest, Jeff Sharlett, called "The Family".
Link
This is one really, really creepy group. But when you read about them....they are all about POWER....They do NOT believe in any government programs to help the poor!!!!! This is a SUPPOSED CHRISTIAN GROUP...
This is NOT about Ensign and his adultery. This is about a powerful Christian group who have a very real agenda....And now, all us Floridians it looks like have a Senator who is a member of this religious (cult)....
Pardon my rambling, but I find this quite disturbing...
If you did not see Rachel's two segments on this group, I urge you to go to MSNBC and watch them...

A small quote from the article:
Lindsay Beyerstein: An interesting paradox comes through in the book. The Family is both revolutionary and elitist. They see themselves as warriors fighting to remake the world, but really they are the establishment.
Jeff Sharlet: All that revolutionary rhetoric serves a very status quo version of the world. The real threat of the right is not what they're going to do, but what they've done. You have to consider what happens in America, which is part of the empire, versus what happens in the rest of the world. Here, they think things should stay as they are. Like rolling back FDR's New Deal. FDR came along and said, "Let's change things." The Family said no.

Andrea, I think this group is really not about Christianity, but instead is about POWER!
Another excerpt from the article:
The Family was founded 70 years ago by Abraham Vereide, a Norwegian immigrant evangelist based in Seattle. In 1935, Vereide said, God appeared to him in a vision and revealed where Christianity had gone wrong: preoccupation with the poor, the weak and the suffering.
WHERE CHRISTIANITY HAD GONE WRONG WAS ITS PREOCCUPATIONS WITH THE POOR, THE WEAK AND THE SUFFERING...
The reason this group concerns me is they have their "claws" in many of our leaders...including my SENATOR...OMG!

I try very, very, very hard to be "open minded" about all groups, and to try to understand their motivation. Which is why, I did some research after watching Rachel's segment on Senator Ensign and the "C Street" house owned by "The Family".
But this group is just plain creepy. Their agenda seems to be about POWER...Their POWER....I don't think they give a damn about anything except keeping and getting more power.
This really disturbs me. We elected a man to have change in this country. To get Health Care, Better Education, etc...
And now I find out we have leaders who belong to a group like this....Including MY Senator..
I am very concerned and I want transparency about this "secretive" organization...NOW!

Ah... the Nazi Germany theory ... this has been the new radical right song recently
However, neither Obama's voting record, proposed legislation record, nor his portfolio of social activism reflect your premise.
In an argument of syllogism and logic you say for example, Mr. X believes Y, and Obama hired Mr. X, therefore Obama believes Y.
This is simply faulty at the root.
Personally, and scientifically speaking, we DO need population control - across the entire globe. Countries who have a supportive birth control culture, like, say, developed countries, have a far lower mortality rate, a higher education rate, a healthier population.
If we continue to increase our population at the current rate, we will simply starve ourselves to death. It's an intentional, slow suicide of mankind.
China was able to wrestle their population down to a reasonable number by enforcing a One Child rule. Period. Indira Gandhi paid the over producing poor to be sterilized. While I doubt that Obama would support ANY of these dire solutions to STARVATION, I'm guessing a few would.
We all enjoy a good debate - base yours on fact - debate is welcome and encouraged and our most productive times in American history have been when we have a balance similar to our current one, in regards to parties.

Romans 2
" You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.
Now we know that God's judgment against those who do such things is based on truth.
So when you, a mere man, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God's judgment? "
We are not in the Seat of Judgement.
And back to Matthew, in those times it was the Pharisees that stuck to the law - but not the heart - of God's teachings. So any accusations of those other than yourself...
Is considered hypocritical and reflective of Pharisee ideology.
We are not put on the Earth to judge -
Following your logic abtou Obama:
Jesus chose Judas as a disciple - does that make Judas thoughts, morality and actions a reflection of Jesus or of Judas?
There are MANY in the GOP party (and certainly in the DNC as well!) who have "sinned against God" - is this a reflection of the GOP - or of the man who committed the crime?
We reached critical mass, population-wise, decades ago. What do we do now?

But the people didn't remove him. The military did. And the people didn't vote for this new "president." He just ascended to this position.
I'm not saying Zelaya was perfect, but I don't like the idea of my country supporting any type of coup where the military ousts the president and installs their guy. That's completely undemocratic.
And to be honest, Bush pushed his executive powers to the limit and some would say violated the Constitution too. Despite that, I wouldn't have wanted the military to step in, kidnap him, take him to Canada in the middle of the night, and then put Eric Cantor in his place. That's like taking one wrong and then adding an even bigger wrong, thus making nothing right and everything really screwed up.

Sounds like someone needs to review their history.
The United States does NOT remove dictators from power; the United States PUTS dictators in power and then removes them when the interests of US multinationals and Wall Streeters are no longer being served.

I'm not surprised at all to see a Chavez ally removed from power. But it's too bad that Chavez views Iran's president as "a brother" and supported that coup. Chavez lost a lot of credibility for that.

Are you talking to me? If so, no, I didn't vote for that mass-murdering lunatic who stole the Presidency and then systematically destroyed the Constitution of the United States.
And if Eric Holder doesn't get it together and prosecute war criminals, I won't be supporting Obama again, either. You don't get to preach about the rule of law and then refuse to apply it to war criminals in high office.

Hot Damn! I almost forgot to tell about my listening tour today in New Jersey.
I found out about it yesterday and was really excited.
So I went and it was a pretty decent crowd about 15 people (that's big for something unannounced in South Jersey). The leader was a lady named Samantha Gordon.
It was a very productive meeting. Many folks voiced their frustration over the lack of media coverage regarding our fight for quality healthcare reform. Many ideas for grassroots effors were brought up. The local news media was there as well. Evidently there is going to be a greater grassroots push probably in the next week or so. All in all I had a great time.
If there are any listening tours in your areas- please attend. You will learn so much. Plus you get to meet cool new folks.

At 2:45 p.m. on Thursday, a member of the right-wing message board Free Republic posted a Reuters photo that the news wire captioned as "U.S. President Barack Obama (C) and France's President Nicolas Sarkozy (R) take their places with junior G8 delegates for a family photo at the G8 summit in L'Aquila, Italy." The Free Republic member invited other members to submit alternative captions for the photo, resulting in dozens of sexually suggestive replies, some using racist epithets.Thirty minutes later, Internet gossip Matt Drudge promoted the same photo with the headline "Mr. President!" Drudge later revised his headline to read "Second Stimulus Package!"About two hours later, at 5:12 p.m., the Fox News website The Fox Nation posted the picture along with the headline "Another Stimulus?" It later revised the title to read "Busted?"Just minutes after Fox Nation's mocking of the photo, ABC News' Jake Tapper posted the photo with the headline "When In Rome...?"Around 4 a.m., almost 12 hours after he first posted the photo, Tapper posted this message on Twitter: "that foto of POTUS seeming to be sneaking a leer is misleading, im told - video shows the moment was completely innocent." He also updated his blog post by adding "Actually, not so much" to the headline and including video of the incident. Tapper wrote in the updated post, "On first glance, the snapshot appears to show President Obama caught in a moment of less than lofty analysis. But upon looking at the video, the moment might seem to appear quite innocent -- one of those times when a picture can be misleading. The president was on a higher step and was stepping down -- so he looked down to assure his footing as the woman was walking up the stairs." He concluded: "Although: not everyone agrees. Judge for yourself."Drudge subsequently included a link to Tapper's blog post with the headline "ABCNEWS: NO HE DIDN'T ..."A classic example of how the right-wing noise machine works was unfolding before the American people. A non-story starts on a right-wing website and works its way into the mainstream. It usually involves Drudge, the fedora-wearing boy who cries wolf (almost daily) on the Internet, and mainstream news outlets follow his lead, offering up under-
Also goes on to talk about the attacks on Nancy Pelosi and the lack of facts in the simulous coverage

A Democratic governor, thought to be a rising presidential candidate, is caught having an affair with a married Argentinian woman.
A Democratic Senator, thought to be one of the leaders of the party, is caught having an affair with a married woman that worked for him, and who's parents paid off.
A Democratic governor and ex-VP candidate, up and quits her job for no coherent reason, but clearly in order to serve her own personal interests.
I can't even think about how crazy the news would be. The media would be going nuts. Non-stop. Instead, they're mischaracterizing the stimulus and claiming Obama's looking at women's asses even after it's disproved.

As I was flipping thru channels the other evening, the commentator on FAUX showed the photo, then the video and he said unequivocally that it was merely a split second freeze frame that made it look all sinistery. He was very gracious. This surprised me because it was FAUX.
Either way, I thought the pic was hillarious, and I refuse to let others steal my joy. Have you noticed, they never smile or laugh. Everything is so dour and serious. Well, that's not for me.
I can laugh and find humor without the filter of some mean spirited people finding a way to cast aspersions. That's their problem.

So, when it was disproved, I was happy since folks were getting ugly about it.
But for what it is, it was a funny shot.

"check first to see if it's a big 'so what'. If it's a big 'so what' in the grand scheme of things, then guess what? It's a big SO WHAT!!

Hi O Family!
As with all of us, I have sent bunches & bunches of letters out over the past several weeks. Do they get printed? NO! So I decided to do something about it. I sent this out in the hopes someone will hear me! ENOUGH is ENOUGH!
My letter ......
The Main Stream Media and it's views .........
I writing this letter, as I so often do, with the hopes of it getting printed, which brings me to what I want to say.
It seems for the most part, when I read letters to the editor of newspapers around the country, most of the ones printed are from the view from the right.
These letters continually say President Obama is doing too much, President Obama is not doing enough, Presdient Obama's direction of taking the country has failed and just an ongoing parade of Presidential bashing.
These letters leave no room for good healthy debate because very few letters are printed from writers expressing a view from the left.
There can be several reasons the media does not print the views from some, yet always prints the views of others. As with most things, my first thought is money. People will stop subscriptions if both sides of issues are printed. The other reason is the truth will be printed. Americans want the truth, they want transparency, what's printed, for the most part, does not do this.
Wake up Main Stream Media. Americans are paying attention more than they ever have. If you should lose business it will not be because your printed the truth, it will be because you did not print the entire truth.
Americans deserve better than they are getting. Try printing the news, the whole news and nothing but the news, in it's entirety!

TV is gonna be gone, soon. First news paper, TV next. Do you know what they will be replaced with?
US, the people will have community where we report our own news based on what is happening. It is getting there, and TWITTER scared the crap out of the MSM. They know it.

Why on earth would he give that rag of a blog site the publicity? Why would he use Malia as the focal point? That rag has folks posting crazy stuff far worst than Malia smears. Why bring it up now when an 11 year old is the topic?
I don't like it, it has a smell to it. The guy that shot the guard at the Holocaust Museum had a blog on that site with I believe 200 comments. Where was Schuster then?
This is a site of some bigoted, racist, nutballs. Why give them more hits from the curious, not to mention a place where new crazies can call home.
What those crazies are saying about anything is not news. Now Schuster want to elevate them as legitimate critics of something. Unbelievable, and I liked Schuster.

Comedian Lewis Black pointed out - when talking about empowering gay rights legislation,
that the more a group - like women, or people of color, or people with disabilities, or gays - are elected into higher positions of authority - the more the perception and the economic health of that group improves.
For example, there's a DNC Women's Caucus whose sole goal is to get women who are democrats elected into office. Combating racism, like combating sexism, comes down to education.
Our Washington representatives do not reflect the rich diversity that makes this country great.
And yes, it's going to be painful for those who have been in power to share.
I don't place all Republicans, however, into the KKK hat. The white, far right religious radical element has been identified by the CIA as the country's most imminent terrorist threat.
The woman in McCain's Town Hall audience who said she feared Obama was a terrorist - these are the exception to the rules.
Pennsylvania has the most radical groups out of all of our states. I was there during the primary - and we had bomb threats at one of the campaign headquarters. It was what Hillary Clinton was hinting about her 'support' I believe during those heady emotional days.
I'm thankful I live in a college area, where my children, like me, are immmersed in the entire palette of humanity - from countries of origin to religious leanings.
Just like we Dems don't like the hint that all democrats are communists and terrorist-sympathesizers,
let's not paint the entire GOP with the KKK paintbrush - it just ain't so.

IMO, we need to put an end to corporate lobbying completely. It needs to be redefined as BRIBERY. Substitute treason and/or fascism if those terms float your boat.) The people of this country should not allow any politician to take BRIBES from corporate America, or to work in Washington as corporate shills and then return to DC after their course of "public servitude" to lobby current politicians for corporations.
The corporate state needs to be smashed. That ought to be our next American revolution.

Senator Dick Durbin (D IL) has introduced far-reaching Campaign Financing Legislation, known as "Fair Elections Now Act".
Fair Elections Now Act would REMOVE SPECIAL INTEREST MONEY and INFLUENCE FROM CONGRESSIONAL ELECTIONS and help to restore public confidence in our democracy by OFFERING FUNDS to candidates who AGREE to STOP RAISING CAMPAIGN MONEY from PRIVATE INTERESTS.
Act would create a VOLUNTARY SYSTEM giving candidates who can demonstrate public support in their state option of receiving Fair Elections funding in LIEU of traditional sources of funding.
Fair Elections Fund would come from a spectrum-usage fee assessed on revenues of broadcasters who use public spectrum.

It's too bad that it never really took off, b/c the environmentalists of the world--who were targeted for joining in on the karmabanque campaign--were not able to link their own agenda to the goal of karmabanque and see how powerful such a campaign could have been.
Take a look at it, and you'll find all kinds of user-generated corporate boycotts as well as reasons for boycotting. (I see that Hershey is on the list.)

I always here the blabber heads say if you don't like the stock then don't buy it...it you don't like they way they're doing business then don't own the stock...if you don't like the executive board, the compensation then don't own the stock
But in reality...we've no choice...all we have are 401k's managed by money managers...or hopes to have enough to invest in a fund that will grow...or hope to have the skills and time to manage and trade an IRA...
Now with these ETF's....hopefully we can purchase the correct ETF...
In short in our supply and demand equation it's easy to blame the supply side..we're always the scapegoat or the end to end the argument..
But in reality we don't have a choice...we're at the mercy of our 401k managers (with not much choice besides a 2025, 2030 whatever be the year fund) so it follows that having the choice illustrated in the link you posted would be freaking awesome!!!

Annette,
I have great, great news.
In the last 72 hours, two senators named in our TV ad -- Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) and Kay Hagan (D-NC) -- announced support for the public option!
The big lesson? Pressure works. TV ads work. Now it's our job to keep the momentum high. So we'll be running versions of our hard-hitting ad in targeted states -- pressuring individual Senate Democrats back home where it hurts most. We just need you to help us decide where.
Click here to cast your vote!
On the voting page, you'll see profiles of eight senators -- including how much money they've taken from the health and insurance interests, whether they sit on important committees, and their statements on the public option.
Each version of the ad will feature the names of a senator's local constituents who "signed" our ad -- representing the 76% of Americans who demand a public option. It will also display the senator's big contributors.
We know that these ads are working. Not only have our ads been featured in the New York Times and Washington Post (which said we're rattling Democratic senators), but MoveOn and Blue America have been running ads in Sen. Hagan and Sen. Lincoln's home states. And the result? They are coming around. Two down, eight to go.
Click here to read about each senator, and cast your vote.
Thank you for being a bold progressive.
Stephanie & the PCCC team
Aaron, Adam, Ashleigh, Evan, Forrest, Max, Michael, Rebecca, and Sahar
P.S. The New York Times story on our ads is here. Talking Points Memo and Hullabaloo have also written some great posts on how progressive TV ads played a hand in Sen. Lincoln's and Sen. Hagan's changes of heart.
We're taking our hard-hitting TV ads to the states -- targeting Senate Democrats who oppose the public option.
Vote on which senators we should target.
Then, pass this email to a friend.

I shake my head, clearly people take him for granted, just the same way many have taken TIM DUNCAN for granted in the nba. Sadly indeed only when he is no longer President will people realize how lucky we are.
Welcome Home President Obama, AKWAABA, and know that we LOVE YOU JUST AS MUCH AS AFRICA LOVES YOU!!!

Thank you, Isack, for letting me know that our President and his family have returned safely. I always worry when he travels. As for love - don't go by what you see in the media. There are lots of people like you and me who dearly love this President. I know - I talk to many of them. And whether they love him or not, nobody will escape the fact that he has already put his mark on the world. He will always be known as the President who opened doors, engaged people and made everyone think about how to achieve a better life for themselves and their children. And imagine, he has only just begun his Presidency.

PLEASANT HILL -- It's barely mid-morning -- the time when most teenagers are just dragging themselves out of bed during summer vacation -- when 16-year-old Troy Stewart raises the ax above his head one more time.
Thwack.
Sweat flies as he hurls his weight into the motion, stabbing at the sea of overgrown bushes that line the window sills of Pleasant Hill High School.
Unlike most of his friends, Stewart has a job this summer. He's working alongside 19 other Pleasant Hill students to improve the district's buildings and landscaping, a summer project made possible by Lane Workforce Partnerships and funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Earlier this year Lane Workforce Partnership received $1,464,309 in funds to help offer summer jobs and career programs for local youth, who must meet certain requirements to qualify for the program.
More than 300 workers are participating in the eight programs across Lane County this summer.
In the Oakridge School District, teens are doing work with the city, the fish hatchery and with the local summer lunch program.
In the McKenzie School District, students are helping run a summer literacy program and working on U.S. Forest Service projects.
And in Pleasant Hill, students just like Stewart are working hard to get the district's property into shape.
Program coordinator Kathy Duval and teacher Steve Smith say they hope the program gives students solid work experience.
For many, it is their first summer job.
"Transportation is a big issue here," Smith said. "If you don't want to work in fast food, there really aren't a lot of options out here anymore."
Stewart says working every day -- even though he has to start at 7 a.m. -- is fun.
After he finishes clearing the brush, students in the program will design and install landscaping in its place.
It's one of many projects the group has tackled this summer -- everything from renovating a play area for the Early Childhood Development Preschool to installing new fencing around the school's baseball field to building a new ticket booth for the school's athletic facilities.
The district says it is getting good work out of the students, who will receive both college and high school credit for completing the program.
And the students say the minimum wage paychecks are much appreciated.

1...... When (notice I'm not saying if) we get HCR it will be the best bill ever passed in decades. It will work. Americans all over the country will have health care from a Democrat WH, HOUSE & SENATE.
Which brings me to point #
2 ...... Since the Dems were in charge of the WH, HOUSE & SENATE they will get re-elected. People will be so grateful they will NOT, I repeat not, put another Republican in the WH.

The economy is bad but stabilizing supposedly. I have several realistic ideas on fixing it permently. For example, Give every U.S. citizen over 21 years of age to age 55 $500,000.00 with 1 of three choices they must do with the money, They can go buy a house, they can pay off their current mortgage or they can go but a new AMERICAN MADE automobile. Now Nissan and several other companies are building cars here in the U.S. with U.S. citizens. So those autos should be considered AMERICAN MADE AS WELL! Look at the bail out money already given to the big companies, look at what they really did with the money. This is better than giving the companies the money directly, It stimulates the economy as well as giving the citizens hope.
Now for people 55 and older, Give them $1,000,000.00 with the understanding they retire TODAY!!!The money must last them till the current retirement age and they get health care as well. This opens up new jobs, encourages education as well as puts the younger generations at a place where they have a chance at least. Then put a Price Freeze on everything from Automobiles to Zoo visits and everything in between, give the economy the chance to come back nice, strong and put the U.S. Dollar above the BGP and the Euro Dollar. C'mon People Get REAL!!!!!

It's takes quite a while for a person to go through the process to become legal so we legal AMERICANS will get taken care of first.
As VA GG suggested, let's not jump too many paces ahead of ourselves. We need to stay right here in the present. That's what prevented HCR in the past. Too many what ifs!!! What ifs are over there, we are over here. Stay in the present. Stay with us now!!

The segment on now is about the SCOTUS hearings coming up tomorrow. The rep callers are so race oriented.

I'm very troubled by this CIA issue. On most things, I totally agree with POTUS. I have not been in agreement with him not wanting to bring charges against cheney and the gang of thugs for war crimes and other things. I'm hoping with the latest revelation he will at least consider a special legal team.

I trust this man completely. As a person that is 60 years old I have been through quite a few Presidents and I have NEVER supported one as I do PBO.
One of the greatest things about America and being an American is we have freedom to disagree. PBO even says he knows we will do that and it's ok.
I do know in the end he will do what's right. A Democrat that just called in to C Span said it best ...........
In the final days only one person will pass judgement and that will be the Lord.

My cheerleading outfit and my extra large pom poms are always with me to rally the troops in support of PBO! Please don't question my support of PBO and my faith in his judgement and intelligence.

I would like to think we can sway the non-PBO supporters, not those who support him.
Don't misinterpret my opinion as being anything else. It is only my opinion.
There are many out there who think they have to same power as PBO's NSA but I'm not one of them.
It's only that I love being an American because being an American means I am free to express myself. I never push my opinions on anyone else. They, too, are free to do the same.
Your comment that it's easier ..............
PBO said himself, "we don't do what's easy, we do what's right"!

Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, Author, "Healthcare, Guaranteed" is on Book TV CSpan2.
Ezekiel Emanuel talked about his book, Healthcare, Guaranteed: A Simple Secure Solution for America, published by PublicAffairs (May 26, 2008). In the book he presents his plan to re-imagine the nation's health care system. According to Dr. Ezekiel, the United States spent 2.1 trillion dollars on health care in 2007 yet 47 million Americans were uninsured. His proposal includes eliminating employer-health care and creating a independent program that grades insurance companies and health care plans. Dr. Emanuel responded to questions from audience members following his remarks.
Ezekiel Emanuel is the chair of the Department of Bioethics at the Clinical Center of the National Institutes of Health. He is the author or co-author of several books, including No Margin, No Mission: Health-Care Organizations and the Quest for Ethical Excellence. Dr. Emanuel is the brother of Rahm Emanuel, President Barack Obama's chief of staff.

Ezekiel Emanuel is actually working with Obama on this...is an adivsor on Health Care, might even have an office in the White House....
It seems odd....there is no other Democrat that has a strong voice, or credibility across party lines going on television on healthcare or even other issues...besides Obama...
John Edwards controversies with his affair prevent him from being this person, Hillary has to focus on foreign policy, Howard Dean has limited appeal to those outside the Democratic Party, Biden is always criticized for saying the wrong thing.....
Sebelius can handle the media but they prefer to have Obama selling it....His cabinet is a bunch of really smart people, the media should give them more of an opportunity...
Obama is just seeming very tired and worn in interviews, doesn't have the energy he had in the campaign, doesn't smile as much...
He needs more people behind him....so far only two GOP Governors (Schwartzenegger-CA and Crist-FL) backed the stimulus bill.....not much more are supporting Health Care Reform....
I want to see a broader coalition...een the conservadems, they vote against him on a lot of things...
If McCain would just stand by him that would be huge, like on the recent environmental legislation that went through the house of represnetaitves, getting it through the senate..
Name one major Republican that is making an alliance with him.....Spector did it with the stimulus and as a result is no longer a Republcan...olympia snowe and susan collins to some extent...
This is just tough...
Once Obama gets health care reform passed, people see immediate savings on health care, and economy starts to move up, Obama's approval hits close to 80%, these type of things happen GOP members will be mroe likely to stand behind him, they will have to...
It just seems like there is too much burden on him....
The GOP double the debt over the last 8 years and now they want to blame Obama for this....
I want to see a coalition brought together as soon as possible....

Well, actually the private health insurance companies will survive and will perform better with competition from a public health insurance plan.
I have private health insurance coverage now and I plan to stick with it -- but I want it to improve -- competition will do that -- me having a choice will do that.

Polling in Canada shows that 82% of Canadians favour Canada's Health Care System to that of the United States Health Care. And, Canadians believe that the U.S. should look to Canada's Health Care System when reforming the U.S. system.
So, next time you see Rich Scott & friends on tvee, remember that statistic.
Here's the article from CTV.

Posted the results of this poll as a point of information.
So that next time you view the LOBBYISTS advertisements on television you can make an informed decision about your opinion.
The LOBBYISTS are spending MILLIONS daily in a barage of ads suggesting Canadians are not happy with Canada's Health Care System, which is simply UNTRUE and a bunch of LIES.
It's simply more of the "SAME-OLD FEAR MONGERING".

The success of Obama's Health Care program he hopes to launch will ultimately stand as the affirmation of whether people approve or don't approve of him as President.
If the system works, the amount of people uninsured will cut in half, the economy will boost as costs go down...if it doesn't work, becomes a bureacratic mess, people will be unhappy and with this such a big program will shoot down his support...
If it is successful his approval rating will go up...
As far as the stimulus, the GOP likes to complain all the time (even befoer the bill passed) that it will take too much time to get out the money...then they put in these lame clauses like the "buy american" clause that delays money going out.....some contractor deals with a smaller contractor to do one piece of the proejct...that smaller contractor who is just getting $25,000 for their piece has to hire a lawyer and go through this long procedure to be certified that what they do is all made in America.....and if a part is not made in America, or is 10X more then need a waiver....this is delaying the money going out, not helping create jobs...
As far as helping the economy, allowing us to import drugs seems like the one part of the bill that will help immediately put money in people's pockets...electronic medical records will take a while, and whatever money is spent on prevention we will see a benefit later...
Obama needs to let Joe Biden make more speeches as right now he is the only voice I see for this administraiotns policies....Joe Biden is good when he has a script...Have him do more scripted stuff....

President responds to some
who would wait or do nothing.
He will not wait it out. He will do something. Some Americans will be thankful.
Huge numbers will suffer greatly from what he did not do.
* Seeing widespread and painful economic wreckage (not from war, earthquake or all-powerful natural disaster) he elected to stabilize the market-driven economy as best he could--and allow two years for investors and shoppers to find the means to return global markets to something better than where they were--when global debt and speculation did them in.
* He did not urge or demand that nations immediately fund work (and workers on a path to become rational consumers) to create all he promised when he was elected.
The President did not respond to the many learned Keynesian economists who urged greater commitment to global monetized demand--commanded by nations determined to create markets for non-destructive, not-monopolized energy; truly necessary health and health care; logistical, humanitarian, industrial and educational infrastructure; and fool-proof banking and financial systems backed up by computers, information and intelligence systems, to prevent economic crime and gambling comparable to terrorism's worst offenses.
There are politicians who counsel wait and do nothing. There are leaders who wait on events and market processes beyond law and understanding--and do less than we must.
What if their economic means were reduced for as long as those who voted for them were left to suffer and wait?
