A strange and anti-democratic coalition has arisen in the political-economy of the American landscape. An alliance of fast eddie profit at any cost economists and torturers. The coalition is quite profitable per the players rapid rise in wealth. But the puppet masters behind the scene are the world financiers. That is for now. With the recent historical transfer of wealth from the taxpayers to the fast eddies one wonders who will come out on top in the internal struggle of the wealthy. Could it be the fast eddies or the blue blood capitalists. Well the blue blood capitalists are on public dole it appears for many years into the future and the fast eddies (ala the DLC and neo-conservatives coalition) have swindled the public for a tidy sum of 13 trillion. Money talks as the saying goes. Presses can be bought, twitterers can be brought into sabotage of democracy (witness the Iranian elections) just add a layer of diplomatic aplomb and here you have the coalition of fraud. Silence on Gaza, interference in the internal affairs of Iran, faulty and dangerous military practices to defeat terrorism. a nation that harbors the evil personage of the terrorist-assassin-torturer- Carlos Posada, a nation that has imprisoned 5 heroic fighters against terrorism (The Cuban Five) from the nation of Cuba, a nation that is in collusion with the fascist coup makers in Honduras. Yes the collusions are clear in the silence, the fear that the fast eddies and right wing in our nation the United States of America have colluded with the death squads, the torturers , the coupists. But enough for the weaklings and the fast eddies and the profit makers. Nice company they keep among themselves and their advisors being the torturers, coupists, terrorists. Our song is the song of peace, friendship and progress for all people. Yes the true democrats will stand with the people of Honduras and their heroic President Zelaya for today and forever. Our actions are compassion, healing, education, health and prosperity for all.

Did "Honey" make it back from FL safely?

She refused to leave before checking out all the goodies.

You will find that my husband has taught her some table manners. You see, when she showed up and was under my feet while trying to set up, I had no choice to toss her in bed with Art. He took the opportunity to teach her some table etiquette.

Hopefully the lessons will stick in her little brain. Tell your neighbor since we're spending all this time with "Honey" we're keeping her and they only get visiting rights!

HI, O-Family !

During the campaign for the Americans abroad in France, I worked with the person the Obama campaign nominated to be one of the 14 Regional Field Directors for Americans abroad all over the world.

Her name is Christine Houben, and she was Regional Field Director for Francophone Europe and North Africa. She took responsability for France, Belgium, Luxemburg (Benelux), Switzerland, Marocco, Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt.

Today, I wanted to wish her a Happy 4th of July, and I learnt that 2 months ago she felt down, and get a fracture just behind the skull, on the C2 vertebra. She was "very lucky" because she didn't have to be operated, and in fact the physicians didn't want to have her operate, as it was to near the spinal cord.

She spent one week at hospital, had very big pains, and now after two months and a little bit more she is starting to fill better. But she has still strong pains.

Yesterday, she able to go out of her home for the 1st time. But she has still for 4 or 5 weeks of reduced mobility.

Of course you don't know her, but she did a tremendous job during the campaign, and if you are willing to let her a comment after my post, I will forward the link to her. She knows I'm often blogging here.

I am reminded that some European countries' elections just saw some surprising right wing wins. We really need the economy to get better, because she will take advantage of a growing restlessness. That's the point of her quitting. She wants to have the freedom to ride a wave of resentment if the wave grows large enough, or just travel around making money. She's got options if fate works in her favor.

I really dislike McCain for bringing her out of Alaska.

Leave my VENUS alone!! LOL! I love it when Venus and Serena each other and I also hate it. I want Venus to win (she's won Wimbeldon 5 times as a singles player- 6 would be extra icing). Yeah we're pretty divided in this house too. lol
anyway, i just love to see them compete, and at times it seems Venus just doesn't even go for it.
Today i didn't even see her biggest shot. dissapointed but congrats to Serena for going after it. It is sad because can you imagine how many titles Venus would have by now if she didn't have to play against her sister in finals?? It might have even made her an EVEN better player. The way it is right now it seems Venus's game goes down eacth time she plays her sister. I think it is tragic and we might never really know the end of it.

Hey, Isak, I feel the same way. Venue always plays her sister to soft. But Serena goes for the kill without any thought to Venus. Serena is a great player but she is a spoiled brat who always pouts when her sister wins. I hate that about her. Venus could barely celebrate her win last year because she was too busy worrying about her sister.

And did you see Venus reach to hug Serena today and Serena responded by shaking her hand? That was awful to me.

I'm finding myself to be less and less of a Serena fan because of the way she treats her sister.

Yes, Venus never plays against her sister with a lot of fire, and I do think part of it is that Serena takes her losses so poorly that it taints the win for Venus.

I guess you can say that Serena is a sore loser, no matter who she plays. That is the one thing I don't like about her either. But I like her style of play better.

I understand President Obama's point but at the same time I am livid by the actions of some of these Dems. It sure sounds to me like they "can't stand the heat" of doing their jobs and answering to their constituencies. Well, who the hell elected them in the first place?

I'm all for promoting legislation, but when you have members of your own party that would rather be beholden to their corporate lobbyists than to the American people, it is time to rise up!

It's apparent to me that not only does the media not understand President Obama's message of CHANGE, but neither do many of the entrenched politicians that thought they would continue business as usual.

NOT THIS TIME!

So I say to all of them, "do the right thing and we'll stop bugging you, okay?"

I think this article is true. As much as we like our President we mustn't forget that he is a politician. These Conservative Dems if you look at their record vote with the President 90plus percent of the time. The devil you know is better than the devil you don't know. Our President is a Democrat at heart. He supports his fellow democrats. He wants to keep them in place and keep the (super) majority we have in both the house and the Senate.

So I think that he thinks that he can persuade them in the end therefore not needing our pressure and he maybe able to do that but I feel this is too important an issue to take the chance.

Last week Hagan in NC gave into us and is now supporting a public option. So I say we just keep right on pushing and prodding to get the job done. We will just make fewer Senators that the President will have to persuade in the end.:)

Agreed. And just to clarify, I am never nasty when I call or email my Senators and Rep but it is getting increasingly frustrating to never get any response from them at all. I believe in our representative form of government but there HAS to be at least a feeling that one is actually being represented! Not only are my representatives NOT listening, they're not even acknowledging that I exist! Granted they're all Republicans, but that shouldn't matter, should it? Aren't they supposed to be representing EVERYONE in our district?

Most of them have been in Washington so long that they have forgotten "we the people". So I say starting on Monday we continue to ring their phones off the hook with calls demanding CHANGE!

Don't you remember? This message has been put out before by the President's administration.

He has always been for productive engagement -- at home and abroad-- and against demonizing opponents instead of working with them to understand and develop a fruitful outcome.

This particular word on this particular issue has been put out in the preceding weeks -- each time more specific and explicit, each time by a higher source. I've posted several of them...

In response some time ago, I think you said that getting elected democrats to vote for health care reform would be harder in the face of attacks on them AND that getting Democrats to "eat their own" was a good tactic for Republicans AND that there was evidence they were using that tactic.

Much of the advertisment against Democrats is NOT about whether people support the President's three core principles for Health Care Reform; it is all and only about Public Option.

There are web sites that do focus all and only on public option -- like Stand with Dr. Dean, Democracy for America, Change Congress, MoveOn -- and their messages are often brought to this site.

What is the effect when a part is taken from the whole? A hole?

President Obama explicitly said "no line in the sand;" Dr. Dean has said "We are drawing a line in the sand over the key principle of real healthcare reform: availability of a public healthcare option. A universally available public option like Medicare is the only way to guarantee healthcare for all Americans and its inclusion in healthcare legislation passed by Congress this year is non-negotiable." Many on this blog seem to prefer Dr. Dean's stance to President Obama's.

I hope they can come back to support President Obama and not feel he has somehow let them down if the legislation does not look the way they want it.

And I hope divisions are not developed and nourished next about energy and climate during the Senate work on that issue.

What else could PBO say? As far as I'm concerned we're doing exactly what he asked and what is needed: lighting a fire under the azzes of these dems! That IS suuporting and moving the legislation forward, IMO.

Workers rally for health care reform

Published: Friday, July 3, 2009

U.S. Rep. Sander Levin is encouraging supporters of health care reform to be "green."

Not green as in environmentally conscious or energy efficient. But rather green as in grass, or grass roots.

Grass-roots support for health care reform is key for its passage as it comes up for debate this month and possible passage this year by Congress.

"It (reform support) has to come from the grass roots up, not simply from the top down," Levin said Thursday during a reform rally in a room at the Clinton-Macomb Public Library at Romeo Plank and Canal roads in Clinton Township.

That would be unlike the early 1990s when Hillary and President Clinton's reform attempt failed, due in part to a lack of broad-based support, according to John Freeman, Michigan director of the national Health Care for America Now campaign.

"We didn't have the grass-roots effort. .... I think that was a fundamental failure of that campaign," Freeman said.

And I should have read again what I wrote before to post it, LOL ! Lots of typing problems... It's not "who are you" but "how are you", as often I inverted the letters, but here it changed the meaning...

When you say "vous" (official), it's "comment allez-vous ?",
when you say "tu" (friends, relatives, persons with whom you are familiar), it's "comment vas-tu ?".

We use the verb "to go", but it's a very atypical one, which explains the strong differences between the different persons.

Special thanks to the family of Lori Ann Piestewa and Hatak Yearby. Piestewa was the first woman killed in Iraq. Yearby was a Marine from Oklahoma who died in Iraq on Mother's Day 2006 when his Humvee struck a landmine.

I like the way you think, rich.

We will fall into her trap if we focus on her, rather than OUR PRESIDENT. Just like during the campaign...it became all about how bad Obama was, he wasn't American, he didn't have experience, he didn't wear a flag pin, blah blah blah. And what did he do - he just kept focused on winning.

We should not make the same mistake and make it all about Palin and her issues/inadequacies. Our focus should always be on lifting UP our candidate and the ISSUES our country faces. She should be a passing thought until she's in our face.

Remember what Ghandi said - "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win..." It's fun to laugh at her, but she's no political dummy. There's a market for her - you don't sign a multi-million dollar book deal if people aren't interested in what you're doing.

Let's just keep an eye on her, we don't need to ignore her, but I don't think we should be laughing at her, or fighting her. Just watch her and respond when necessary. Anything else plays into her hands.

The less we talk about Palin, the better.

;-) I really liked the blacklight note from McCain! Used to be that when you turned the light switch off, Palin's eyes would glow. Now, there's a note from McCain. LOL. The shopping bags in the desk and outside the door are new, too. So is the 6-pack, shredder with Powell's pic/Roe v. Wade/and the gay pride banner, and the rabbit and penguin outside the door. Only other things I recognize as new is the flag with the beauty pageant and Queen of Alaska ribbons on the top.

Los Angeles is NOT throwing a memorial for Mr. Jackson. The family wants to have a public memorial. I beleive the family was also told (in subtle ways of course) that if they want something big they'd better be prepared to pony up the money.

I agree with this. CA is strapped for cash. Los Angeles does not need to have its first responders allocated to crowd control duty.

While I believe that a large part of the people truly want to pay their respects to Mr. Jackson, we all know there is a certain odd freakinsh element to our society that likes to gawk. They want to see if this will turn into a freak show, so they buy a ticket hoping to be entertained.

I agree with that. While I understand L.A. has money set aside for overtime pay, etc., for this type of event, I'm pretty sure they will go over budget, and I hope the poor people of L.A. or Cali don't have to figure out how to pay using money they don't have.

I think this memorial is going to be nice for fans, but the cynic in me can't help but think that this is all just a further marketing of a deceased M.J. money-making juggernaut.

I just got a message from a person who attended my first health care meeting and I wanted to share it. I hope the person doesn't mind. It was so positive and I wanted to share it.

"My friend H... and I went to an OFA meeting in N... Wednesday night. The OFA (Organizing for America) meeting had about 90 people there, oozing intelligence, opinions, complaints, recommendations and stimulation! Every idea spoken was written down. A woman was there who meets with Obama regularly (at least weekly) and personally to tell him what she's learned at these listening tours which are scheduled all over the state. This is going on in every state in the country. H... and I were so stimulated that we're still talking about it, and I signed up for canvassing, which means I'm going to break my rule and be proselytizing. Proud of me?

Just thought I'd give you an update. How'd it go June 27?"

The listening tour we had here went really well and then we had a large group meet to plan for the 27th. We held a healthfair/foodbank drive at a local park. handed out flyers and a lot of people who signed up to come also signed up to volunteer with OFA. We really have a lot of work to do to get this passed. No public option, no reform.

Repubs are much better at promoting themselves than we are. They organize around conservative radio and put their information out there. We on the other hand have progressive radio that doesn't even mention to their listeners that we are holding a rally in DC. There is no coordination at all.

Driving to the beach yesterday I heard our local news radio station announce where everyone of the teaparties were going to be in our area. That is because the sponsors of these events call the local as well as the national news organizations and insist that they cover these events. I heard absolutely nothing on local TV or radio about the Health Care Reform rally prior to it taking place. So whose fault is that?

We are under this illusion that person to person; twitter to twitter, facebook to facebook is all we need. Those of us that followed the Obama campaign from the beginning know that we had to fight for press coverage. Most people didn't know who Barack Obama was and couldn't even pronounce his name. We had a phenomenal candidate and it was our groundwork in coordination with the media coverage that brought him to prominence.

IMO if we want the press to notice what we are doing so that the average person understands health care reform (you know those people who don't twitt, or facebook) we had better get better at selling our ideas and making the press cover it so that the average joe and jane know how important this moment is.

I agree with all you say Donna but there are other things at work here. During the campaign there was no choice but to cover Obama but now that he has won the media are determined to take him down. They will cover nothing positive unless it is so overwhelming they have no choice. We have no real journalism anymore, just tabloid trash. Bill Press and Ed Shultz mentioned the healthcare ralley on their show but the audience is just not that big. Thee are many more hatemongering stations than their are progressive ones.

Oh I agree with you about the media but I just think we lack in our ability to do our part. Mentioning a rally vs promoting it everyday on your show is the difference. Also look at these pundit shows. The Repubs are knocking each other over trying to get on these shows to rebut anything the President does or say and where are the Democratic voices. Other than a few strategist you barely see any Dems on these shows. I agree that the media wants to take him down but where are our voices lifting him up?

Two U.S. soldiers killed in complex Afghan attack

KABUL (Reuters) - Two U.S. soldiers were killed when their base in southeast Afghanistan came under attack on Saturday, the U.S. military said, two days after a major operation against the Taliban was launched in the south.

The attack included an attempted suicide truck bombing of the base in the Zirok district of southeastern Paktika province, local officials said.

The international coalition in Afghanistan said in a later media statement that multiple rocket and mortar rounds had been fired at the outpost, one of which contained white phosphorus.

Afghanistan's Taliban have denied using the chemical, which bursts into flame on contact with the air and can cause horrific burns. A coalition spokesman said about 70 incidents of insurgents using or possessing white phosphorus had been documented since April.

Some of the most active insurgents in the area include the al Qaeda-linked Haqqani network, against which U.S. and other NATO troops have launched a number of operations in recent weeks.

The network is allied with the Taliban and has been behind several high-profile attacks in Afghanistan.

BAGHDAD, July 4 (UPI) -- U.S. Vice President Joe Biden celebrated the Fourth of July with American troops in Iraq where he presided at the naturalization of 237 U.S. troops.

Twelve of those troops were Iraqis, the Wall Street Journal reported.

"As corny as it sounds: Damn I'm proud to be an American," Biden told service members assembled at U.S. Camp Victory military headquarters at Aw Faw Palace, one of the seats former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's power, which sports a giant crystal chandelier hanging from an ornate ceiling.

"There's always room for more Americans, always room for more Americans," Biden said. "It's the lifeblood of our country … you know over 50 countries are represented here today, men and women, black and Asian, Hispanics."

Also present at the ceremony was Gen. Raymond Odierno, U.S. commander in Iraq, who recalled the inscription on the Statue of Liberty, "give me your tired, your poor," adding, "If had to write an inscription, I would say, 'Give me your best your brightest and your bravest. Give me your warriors, your heroes who will enhance our great nation and strive to keep her free.'"

....That want this president to fail no matter what the cost to america. I saw the vision of barack when he first started to rise from the ashes of 8 years of tyranny! At six months into his destiny, enemies are blaming him for the deficit. How short is our memory, we are already seeing the seeds of the stimulus taking root. Easily we forget how we arrived at this point and blame the current figure. Across the globe of this fragile earth, there is hope, for many countries look to us to be the innovative, moral leader to guide them out of their darkest days. Clinton helped to guide the bosnians out of their holocaust. Kennedy brought us from the brink of a nuclear winter. All across the world, noone saw hope, until a grassroots campaign across america defied all odds, and brought to us a president with moral leadership, sound judgement, steel reserve, and the willingness to talk to our adversaries, for with words alone...you can disarm. Our economy is slowly recovering from the devastating indulgences of the corporate, military and real estate maniacals. The ones that hastily took us to war , and our fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, died, for a war we did not want and was not needed...don't get me wrong.all those soldiers, and their families especially deserve our most revered respect........In retrospect, Thank god for the grassroots to rise up against all odds to defeat the elitest and elect a man of the people, whom desires healthcare for all, a dialogue with our enemies instead of a march to war(death), This stance of dialogue baffles our enemies....but we have always baffled our enemies.....Mr. President, I, and the majority of americans stand fully behind the choices you have made.......Keep Up The Good Work!
