Congratulations Cynthia for being 1st!!!
President Obama can not catch a break from the Republicans and the Democratic Senators are working against him as well when it comes to Healthcare Reform.
I just do not understand why it is so hard for people to see that if we do not do something about Healthcare costs American families will continue to struggle and programs like Medicare will be in jeporady.

The 40 "Party of NO" senators are simply "agitating" in Senate Committees. They have NO intention of supporting the President's initiatives. They've proven that time & time again. They have NO intention of working in any BI-PARTISAN fashion. So, the "Grand Obstructionist Party" can roll over and play dead.
Let the President move on REAL Health Care Reform that 7-in-10 Americans support. President Obama continues to have the support of the "PEOPLE" who elected him in November & Health Care Reform was one of his SIGNATURE issues in the debate leading to his election.
The "PEOPLE" have spoken & SUPPORT the PUBLIC OPTION in Health Care, & have even indicated they are willing to pay higher taxes to support that plan.
What more do you want?
NOW IS THE TIME!!!
Let the "Party of NO" roll over & DEMOCRATS will pass REAL reform! There's been lots of ideas on the TABLE. And, still the "Party of NO" can't find common ground.
LEAVE THEM IN THE DUST!
And, do the "PEOPLE's WILL".
The "PARTY OF NO" WILL THEN GO DOWN IN HISTORY AS THE PARTY THAT WANTED TO KILL HEALTH CARE REFORM.

As I was typing the above post, JOHN BARRASSO's mug appeared on the TV.
"Health Care Reform MUST BE a BI-PARTISAN Bill", says Barrasso. Could it be that the "Party of NO" is running scared that the President will move with his MAJORITY?
BI-PARTISANSHIP is clearly becoming just a "buzz" word in Washington. Must be bi-partisan but do nothing to act in a bi-partisan way. Enough is enough of this nonsense!
The BILL will be BI-PARTISAN. It is SUPPORTED by:
7-in-10 AMERICANS!
Of the Americans polled:
87% Democrats polled support a Public Option.
73% Independents polled support a Public Option.
50% Republicans polled support a Public Option.
AND, 57% of Americans polled are willing to pay higher TAXES in support of a Public Option.
NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL BI-PARTISANSHIP!!!
THE "PARTY OF NO" IS OUT OF STEP WITH MAINSTREAM AMERICA! And, in step with SPECIAL INTERESTS!
CALL JOHN BARRASSO's Washington Senate office & let him know a PUBLIC PLAN for Health Care Reform Bill is BI-PARTISAN WITH BI-PARTISAN SUPPORT FROM REAL AMERICANS ACROSS THE COUNTRY!

Cynthia,
You've got that right! Pharma & Insurance will have to change their "business model" for a marketplace with REAL competition.
Isn't that what "Free Enterprise" is modeled on? COMPETITION? What are they afraid of?
Competition is good for the consumer! CHOICE in Health Care isn't that what Republicans want? They keep advertising: "Don't take our CHOICE away". Well, CHOICE is what's being offered.

AP source: Government to lend Ford, Nissan, Tesla money to develop fuel-efficient vehicles
The Energy Department is expected to announce Tuesday it is lending money to the Ford Motor Co. and two other automakers from a $25 billion fund to develop fuel-efficient vehicles.
Congress approved the loan program last year to help car companies and suppliers retool their facilities to develop green vehicles and components such as advanced batteries.
The loans were designed to help the auto manufacturers meet new fuel-efficiency standards of at least 35 miles per gallon by 2020, a 40 percent increase over current standards.

That is his message to John McCain who continues to speak out against the President's stance on Iran. He says the President is right and hopes he does not cave to pressure calling for a more hard line response. He says if McCain wants to speak out he should talk about the US support of Saddam Hussein during the Iran Iraq war and how the Iranians hold us responsible for contributing to the deaths of 1 Million of their people.
Also Mavis Leno (wife of Jay Leno)who heads up an international women's league was speaking of the women's lead roll in what is happening in Iran right now and said the Presidents actions are "Spot On."

The difference a super majority makes. Speaker Pelosi can keep them in line and if a few stray it's no big deal.
We need to be really concerned that the Senate is capable of holding this President back over the next 8 years.
Ensign in LV is in trouble we should be going after that seat bigtime!
I am concerned about Senator Byrd (God Bless Him) he is in his 90's and in poor health. Can we keep that seat blue if there was an election in WV (I have my doubts).
We should pickup a seat in NH next year but we need more.
Only God knows when the Minnesota seat will be resolved. If this had been a Republican Senate they would have found some way to seat their guy by now and would care less what anybody thought about it. Next week it will be 8 months since the election. It is just pathetic that the residents of Minnesota can go almost a year without any Representation. This system is just pathetic!
What good is having the majority in the Senate if you cannot count on their votes when it really COUNTS?
Dems generally think that it is so grande that we have diversity of ideas but ideas are good only if you can compromise on the better of the ideas and then consolidate your support around that idea. All these Dems talking about what we cannot do is just ridiculous to me.
Our President has to do everything himself!

To be fair, I'm not sure there is anything that could've/can be done to speed up the situation in Minnesota. Coleman has a right to legally challenge the results, so long as he's asserting non-frivolous claims, and it was a ridiculously close outcome with irregularities, so I think he has a legal right to challenge things in court.
And once it is in court, the process is out of the hands of politicians. So, I can't blame the Dems for not being able to seat Franken all this time.

Vero I don't disagree and I am not advocating that the Dems should circumvent the system. I am just venting that it's ridiculous that this can drag on like this (legally) and that if the Repubs had been in the majority they wouldn't have cared what is right they would have just done what they wanted. They would have figured out a way to seat their guy long before it ever got to the courts IMO.

This is the reason you don't want a public option that doesn't include some type of government competition. It will run out of money due to the high cost!
So, don't let them hoodwink us into this type of plan. It will not work.
________
The subsidized insurance program at the heart of the state's healthcare initiative is expected to roughly double in size and expense over the next three years - an unexpected level of growth that could cost state taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars or force the state to scale back its ambitions.

So that article was February 3, 2008, right?
And, thanks, Cynthia, I saw the problems it points to. MA has medicare and medicaid as public options but they aren't well integrated into the overall plan, I guess, so Federal money is not very certain and maybe not well used?
Plus they apparently did at least three things we can avoid in the federal bills:
1) they undercounted the uninsured
2) Romney changed the details so revenues to support it were reduced,
3) the short term versus long term costs and savings weren't made quite clear enough.
Well, it looks to me like some of the current proposals are pretty good at scrutinizing those three matters. What do you think?

I read an article on TPM that said they are actually trying to slide in this co-op crap and pass it off as the "public option".
Today when I called, I asked a different question, I confronted her with the article, and asked, "Does he support the public option that the American people support or this co-op mess?" She now is saying he is considering all forms of public option. I kindly told her, "Get a new line. All of you Senators have exhausted that line by now. We have been arguing about health care for 30 years, and you mean to tell me by now you don't know where you stand? Give me a break. At the next caucus lunch, tell the democrats to get a new line."
We have to keep up the pressure. Call all day today and and tomorrow. Specifically ask do they support a government run option or a co-op. We want government run, we are not scared of the word."

Please, consider the call tips and talking points to support the Presidnet at the OFA link
Link
I say this with special urgnecy today thanks to a post by Lydia from Durham, yesterday (at 10:13 pm). She posted a piece from the Ed Show and said "This is not new to most of us, but I thought this was an interesting exchange:"
What surprised me is this:
Ed had a panel of three journalists.
At least two (Stoddard and Ballantani) have in the past often shown support for Republicans.
AND, guess what? And they lived up to form.
Ed asked Stoddard and Ballantani a question about the Republican side (it is what they do).
They each barely acknowledged the content of Ed's questions AND changed the subject to "The Democrats are against it. The Democrats are fighting among themselves. Don't worry about the Republicans."
So now we are pretty clear about the current main Republican talking point against health care reform efforts. They want everyone to be saying "Democrats are not supporting the Democratic President."
I wonder how many Democrats are being influenced by this Republican manuever? Are we highlighting the Democratic rather than Republican response to the Health care reform effort?
If we we focus on destroying each other, who's that chuckling over there?

It's like they want the American People to fail.

I don't know. I was sniffling, weeping, sobbing and down right wailing. Just a-thumpin' and a-bumpin along the chair rails in the hallways of the cyber-innerwebz. I could see you, but you couldn't see me. Any attempts to reach you was like yelling in a vacumn. It was a twilight zone episode.
Now hat's off to the best blog master in the world! Our own Chris Haas jumped right on it.

Sickly talk mires health care debate
Published: Tuesday, June 23, 2009 11:10 AM EDT
President Obama was elected with perhaps the best chance in a generation to reform America's unjust and grotesquely inefficient health care system. To do so, however, he'll have to conquer not only special entrenched interests like the insurance and pharmaceutical industries and the American Medical Association, but his own sentimental rhetoric about bipartisanship.
...
all the scare-talk has Senate Democrats from the ``cow states,'' as Mencken called them - Max Baucus of Montana, Kent Conrad of North Dakota, and Ben Nelson of Nebraska - proposing mushy compromises involving federally chartered co-ops, as if there weren't already co-ops aplenty among the nation's estimated 1,300 health insurance companies.
...
Happy talk aside, if winning this epochal battle takes a 50-49 vote with no Republicans among the majority, then that's what it takes. Above all, Obama shouldn't negotiate with himself.

Nate Silver's Take on the Probability of a Public Option for Health Care Reform ... |

Just love Nate Silver's analyses. And, we all remember how well he predicted the outcome of the Election results.
Interesting assessment on WARNER, BAUCUS & REID & how the money received from Industries will decide their votes & even makes note that WARNER's only been in the Senate 6 months.
Here's his take on health care & Public Option:
Title: Special Interest Money Means Longer Odds for Public Option
"But the money is why, even with 59-60 votes in the Senate and a President with high approval ratings, Democrats are facing an uphill battle on the issue."
According to his analysis, the 11 EASIEST CONVERTS to a PUBLIC OPTION in Health Care Reform are the following Senators:
BEGICH - Alaska
BYRD - West Virginia
Cantwell - Washington State
Dorgan - North Dakota
Tester - Montana
Wyden - Oregon
(Bill) Nelson - Florida
Hagan - North Carolina
Lieberman - CT
(Mark) Udall - Colorado
Carper - Delaware
