Knocking on the door of a neighbor causes you to sweat? The thought of volunteering at a booth invites visions of hiding under the table? Making phone calls to strangers bring on a headache?
Sound familiar?
I think that all of us, if asked, would like to do something for this campaign but see a roadblock.
The ones we have created for ourselves and the old standbys of money, time, limited abilities, or distance. But with ingenuity and this wonderful interconnected online world we have found ways.
Instead of partying during his college spring break, Kyle volunteered in Texas for the campaign. His story is featured at the end of this SFBO (students for Barack Obama) blog here. There was a special woman that helped him, and tens of others, with the high cost of travel. Today she shares with us this grassroots success story!
FREQUENT FLYER MILES PROGRAM A HUGE SUCCESS! | By Michele from Huntington Beach, CA The primaries are wrapping up and we’re no longer sending volunteers to other states, so now is a good time to summarize the success of the frequent flyer miles program. Thanks to the generosity of many who donated their valuable miles and paid associated fees, we sent 93 volunteers to other states to work for anywhere from a few days to two weeks or longer. Some hard-working, extremely dedicated volunteers went to two, three, and even four states (Idris and Aaron, I’m talking about you). Nearly 2.75 MILLION MILES were donated over a period of just a few months. I was assigning a value of 25,000 miles per ticket, but then stories started coming in of how donors were using twice as many miles or actually paying for tickets for volunteers when a ticket required double miles and the donor didn’t have that many. Others, who had no miles to donate, called to offer help with hotel and meal expenses. One generous woman (thank you, Esther) offered 100,000 miles, ended up using 300,000, and could always be called upon to help with expenses. Thank you, everybody involved, for your miles donations, financial support, and thousands of hours on the ground working for Barack. You played an integral role in his earning the most pledged delegates and, ultimately, winning the Democratic nomination.

Michele imagined a bridge over the roadblock.
Our supporters abroad taking it literally with a worldwide project! Seen here in Paris on the Pont des Arts for the Yes we Span Project
A project like Michele's and these adventurous supporters worldwide are an undertaking. If we all look hard enough we too will find our bridge. Louise, administrator of our sister site on myspace.com, has compiled a partial list of a few things you can do. BE the CHANGE. Do something, one thing, to help elect Senator Barack Obama. And your one, and mine, and others will add up to victory! Do It Today.
