We have a steering committee!

Last Saturday, we officially formed the Steering Committee for Utah for Obama. Here are the committee assignments:

Co-chair - Mark Rothacher
Treasurer - Unfilled
Community Relations Director - Satya Kallepalli
Community Relations Assistant - Jacque Roberts
Media Relations Director - Nathan Garcia
Secretary - Theo Cowan
Events Coordinator - Janet Hurley
Voter Registration Coordinator - Gail Turpin
Scheduling Coordinator - Matt Ledingham
Materials Coordinator - Duchess Schuman
Writer's Group Coordinator - Unfilled

The meeting was very successful, and I think that our group (and our cause!) will benefit greatly! We still really need the Writer's Group Coordinator, and a Treasurer, so if anyone is interested in those positions, or helping one of the groups, please let us know.

Our future meetings will be held a little differently. We will have only 2 meetings per month. One meeting is intended for a general audience, and the other will be intended for the Steering Committee. All of our meetings are open, of course. But, the Steering Committee meeting will not be advertised publicly as our other ones will be.

If any of you have a MySpace page, join us.
One other need that we have is for someone who is good with CSS. Our MySpace page and our web site need your help!

We have two upcoming events that we still need volunteers for. The Utah State Democratic Convention on July 14 from 9 am till about 2 pm.

Here is what Erin Kelly said about the event:

The Warped Tour is a festival style concert that travels around the entire nation. There are over 100 bands (mostly punk and alternative) that play each show over several stages, so the crowd is moving around. At the event there are many political and non-profit booths, which is what we'll be running. There will be minimal set up, and then the volunteers will sell shirts, hand out brochures, explain Obama's views, sign up people for e-mail lists and just talk to people and explain why they are a supporter. It is all day outside, but we have the chance to spread Obama's name and message to a fairly politically active crowd. Four volunteers get into the event for free.

We have 2 volunteers that I know of, possibly 3. That means we need at least 1 other person to help out.

I don't have all the dates in front of me right now, but the Steering Committee meeting will be this Saturday, July 7, at 2 PM at the library.
