Well, our new 18th Legislative District (LD), Clark County Washginton for Obama Delegates is up and running! I christen it here with it's first blog entry.
Thanks to all who responded to my blog post on the Vancouver Obama Group blog on Delegate Election criteria. The ideas struck a cord with many it appears, and I was amazed at the thoughtful inspiring and moving responses to the post.
As these things go, reading the responses will prompt further thoughts. And so adding to the other criteria mentioned, one desirable trait in my view, is the candidate want to be a delegate for the right reasons. This might seem self evident, but people do things for all sorts of reasons, and not always the right ones. Not that there is any one particular right reason, but that whatever the reason is: that it's the right one.
I picked up a copy the other day and started reading Campaign Boot Camp, Basic Training For Future Leaders, by Christine Pelosi, which former Senator Max Cleland recomends, "for everyone who wants to bring change, renew hope, and revialize our nation." What I've read of it so far resonates with the experiences I had back in the day organizing community service projects in Santa Cruz, LA and Orange County California. It's all about building a solid footing of service--really a selfless act of service to community. If your doing it for selfish reasons, you're in for a rough ride. The book is a great book, which I highly recomend to those running for Obama delegate as a must read.
Best,
