So happy to share this day with you. We've fought for it, and it's happening!
A little Barack to inspire (from his commencement address from Northwestern, where I taught, 6/16/06):
The first lesson of growing up:
The world doesn't just revolve around you. There's a lot of talk in this country about the federal deficit. But I think we should talk more about our empathy deficit - the ability to put ourselves in someone else's shoes; to see the world through those who are different from us - the child who's hungry, the laid-off steelworker, the immigrant woman cleaning your dorm room.
As you go on in life, cultivating this quality of empathy will become harder, not easier. There's no community service requirement in the real world; no one forcing you to care. You'll be free to live in neighborhoods with people who are exactly like yourself, and send your kids to the same schools, and narrow your concerns to what's going in your own little circle.
Not only that - we live in a culture that discourages empathy. A culture that too often tells us our principle goal in life is to be rich, thin, young, famous, safe, and entertained. A culture where those in power too often encourage these selfish impulses.
They will tell you that the Americans who sleep in the streets and beg for food got there because they're all lazy or weak of spirit. That the inner-city children who are trapped in dilapidated schools can't learn and won't learn and so we should just give up on them entirely. That the innocent people being slaughtered and expelled from their homes half a world away are somebody else's problem to take care of.
I hope you don't listen to this. I hope you choose to broaden, and not contract, your ambit of concern. Not because you have an obligation to those who are less fortunate, although you do have that obligation. Not because you have a debt to all of those who helped you get to where you are, although you do have that debt.
It's because you have an obligation to yourself. Because our individual salvation depends on collective salvation. And because it's only when you hitch your wagon to something larger than yourself that you will realize your true potential - and become full-grown.

So many people have kidded me for awhile now, but are coming around saying, "looks like your guy is going to win", HE WON!! oh yeah onto November then 1-20-2009 only 231 days to go.

It's amazing that this is the exact midpoint of the campaign - 5 months of voting are done and there's another 5 months of campaigning until the general election.

Whirlwind is right...5 months ago this evening all of us Iowans were at our caucus sites, counting attendees, handing out chocolates (I had 6 pounds to keep supporters happy and bribe others!) ;-), recounting when those from other camps weren't viable....then finally the announcement of delegates! I cried at that moment, I cried again at HyVee Hall when Barack gave his speech and I most certainly will shed another tear or two tonight...
I have butterflies in my stomach just like I did 5 months ago!!! WOW...we're on our way to the General, my friends, yes we are!
Happy to share this glorious night with everyone here--hat tip once again to Nancy for this blog!!

for hosting the blog party Nancy. I have to run out for a little while but I'll be back. I hope we can all be online when Barack starts his speech. It looks like it will be one of those nights that I have the TV going and 2 computers online at the same time. I've done that a few times (like Iowa caucus night.)
Anyway, I'll see you all in a little while.

Thanks so much to all the old-timers!

Nothing to be confused about... the 23 superdelegate endorsements before mean that Obama doesn't need to win SD. Even losing, his proportional share (probably 6 or 7 delegates) is enough to put him over the top. He didn't need to wait until Montana.

The confusion was that the blog specifically said that CNN called South Dakota for Obama; the headline of the blog was We Win South Dakota. That appears not to be the case, and the thread has been removed, though if you click the link I posted above it should still take you there.
But, Oh yes oh yes oh yes WE WON THE NOMINATION! The only one confused about that seems to be HRC and Terry McAuliffe, according to the bit I just heard Olbermann say!

I think they basically think MOST of us are Stupid and they have to make their speeches wishy washy and interesting to get us to listen..hmm. Maybe.. or maybe we usually go with the flow of letting politics be politics. NOT this time I have joined through Yahoo a reminder of votes on bills so I can contact my senator when I need to express my feelings before he votes. P.S. I will miss Obama as my Senator!!

Her utter inability to accept this situation is what baffles me the most.
Running a close second is how the MSM totally ignores the negative aspects of Clinton history when they discuss Shrillary's prospects for the future.
Thank goodness we get an Obama speech to make the Shrillary headache disappear!

I've finally come back to the computer after watching Obama's speech (and Clinton's speech at low volume so I wouldn't have to hear it so loud) and more than anything what stands out to me is how good of a guy we have nominated.
He has always specifically congratulated Clinton on her wins and honored McCain, and yet they both crap all over him. And yet he still inspires more of us and lays out the right path for our country, and those two don't.
An amazing night.

I am just like- it really has happened? Really? This must be some dream. Been a long road since Feb 2007 and it is amazing that this has turned into a movement. A movement of Change and promise and yes hope!
Over one million people have fueled this campaign, thousands of grassroots supporters knocked on doors- made calls- wrote cards and letters- registered voters, and hundreds of staff blanketed the country! Every state was touched by this campaign somehow! Who ever thought that it was possible?
And I do reflect on this journey of mine. I think back as if it is one of those montages set to music. These scenes from youtube, msm, and my own experiences meld into one. I never did anything for a candidate before- besides voting. I like to say I am as unlikely as a supporter as he is a candidate! And those two met with the power of the internet and this online community. Yes a stay at republican mom of two little ones turned into a grassroots activist for a biracial freshman Democratic Senator from Chicago! What an American story.
Yes we are Americans first of all. This is how we rekindle the sense of shared prosperity, reclaim our voice, and restore our faith in government and America's promise.

I know Linnie from here and Eons. I'm not sure if she even comes to these blogs anymore, since I rarely post anymore myself.
Anyway..here's the article...
It all started last summer with a $10 online donation -- her very first political contribution.
With another click of the mouse, 52-year-old Linnie Frank Bailey, a political neophyte, morphed into a campaign volunteer. By fall, she'd taken on the titles of "area coordinator" and "regional field organizer." And by winter, she'd become a field commander of sorts, organizing a 10,000-square-foot presidential campaign office in southern California.
Now, nearly a year later, more than just the seasons have changed. Here inside Room 307 of the Sacramento Convention Center on a recent Sunday morning, a once unengaged but now thoroughly committed woman sits alongside seasoned political activists and big-money donors at the only meeting of the state delegation to the Democratic National Convention. The mother of two, the middle-class homemaker, the self-described "blogger-on-training-wheels" is now one of California's 166 pledged delegates for Sen. Barack Obama.
The rest is here:

We are still in Alaska and our cruise, Denali and everything has been wonderful! However, internet was 75 cents a minute and 45 cents if you bought a $ 100 package. I thought that money can go to the campaign so finally we are in Anchorage Hilton and it is $7.95 for 24 hrs. Anyhow, Tuesday night when Barack won it was 5 Alaskan time and we celebrated at dinner with Champagne. I was the only person on the ship of 1400 with Obama buttons on me. My husband and I talked to many people--many supporters. Since we are 69 and 71 and most of the cruisers on Holland America are 60--85, it has been interesting. Not one negative comment but a few interesting looks. Of course I talk to everyone so I hope to have done some good. My husband has been delightful and not said one word as I repeat all the Obama background I can reasonably share as a proud Illini. We just returned from Denali which was an extension of the cruise. Now we are spending another week in Anchorage, Homer, and Seward. I can hardly stand to be away from the campaign, and the only thing to watch on the ship was CNN. We will be in B & B's mostly from here on so I thought tonight will be my only chance to say Hello and I am totally thrilled beyond words as my current babbling indicates.
Keep HOPE shining.
