This week has already been productive. Being active in the Obama Campaign for Change can take so many forms. For instance, monetary support is extremely important on an ongoing basis. Consider how expensive just one television ad costs these days--millions and more!
Our team leader, Gayle, recently informed me that the Campaign for Change needs several donations so Senator Obama can pay for an expensive ad that will run simultaneously during prime-time on all of the major stations nationwide. With that type of cost in mind, very early this morning, I donated another $500 online.
When did I make the decision to donate more money? Early last evening, an Obama volunteer had called me for a phone contribution. I told him that I would have to check my resources, but still had a goal to give the maximum amount of $2,300 before Election Day. He was very persuasive when he stated, "The campaign wants you to give even after it hurts--if you can find a way."
Granted, I have already passionately supported the Obama Campaign for Change in many ways. But what the phone volunteer said struck a chord of immediacy. He reminded me that I am more blessed than many other Americans. For instance, I have a job with benefits including health care insurance. I also currently have extra money in the bank. Other struggling Americans are not as fortunate. Therefore, it is up to people like me to fill in the donation gaps.
Considering it had been a few months since I last contributed, I went to my online banking site to check my balances. Actually, I already knew what I would find. Then I decided to be proactive. Make the donation without delay. What happened next?
Early this morning, I transferred the necessary amount into my checking account. Then I went back to this secure site. I then contributed my new pledge amount of $500. It felt good to be someone filling in the gaps needed for more commercial advertisement and the other glaring exorbitant Campaign for Change costs.
Besides monetary contributions, I am scheduled to attend another major event today, the GOTV (Get Out The Vote) Training in my region. Once again, the meeting site will be Brush High School.
Later today, Team Win (my neighborhood team) is hosting a Debate Viewing Party called Barackin BBQ Party. Then tomorrow afternoon, former President Bill Clinton will be in downtown Cleveland to fire more people up to VOTE EARLY for Obama and Biden.
Just sitting in front of my laptop yesterday, I e-mailed several family members, friends, and colleagues about our local upcoming events. I also continued spreading the word to MySpace Friends, the entire MySpace network of supporters, and even potential ones.
Also here in my community, I can readily continue to pass out flyers and post VOTE EARLY information. More importantly, I will be Canvassing Bedford Heights again this weekend.
In actuality, we should be talking to someone EVERY DAY about why it is important for them to VOTE EARLY for Senators Obama and Biden. One compelling reason comes to mind. There are now stories circulating online about VOTE EARLY irregularities.
For instance, some people who thought they were registered purportedly found out when they attempted to VOTE EARLY that somehow their names had been purged from the registration rosters. Imagine having to resolve that problem on ELECTION DAY! I would be in a tailspin! Considering our country's 2004 Election Day horror stories, VOTE EARLY!
I will be preaching that Gospel in person, on the phone, and online until the polls close on ELECTION DAY!
In summary, I feel very excited and energized today. This has already been a great week for me as a volunteer and team member. More importantly, this week is unfolding as another great week for our Obama Campaign for Change!
