I was a school teacher for 29 years; our school are broken. They cannot be fixed. We are spending a much higher price per student today than we ever did and the kids are not getting arny smarter.
Do something real for education; promote choice in education. The more choices we have out there, the better the education will be. The free market is a good thing; it's not bad. We can choose which college, university, or trade school that we go to (if they will take us). THAT IS A GOOD THING! Now, let's move it down to the other grades as well.
Where does Obama stand on this? Will he just say, "Teachers need to be paid more; people need to be taxed more." I've been in the public school system; the more money they get, the more administrators they hire; the big thing nowadays is meetings, and that requires more administrators to hold meetings (which are WORTHLESS; take my word for it).
Give people a choice. When a school does not perform, then that school will go by the wayside. If a school wants to have high standards for applicants, that is the way it should be; just like Universities today. If a school wants to emphasize math and science, and another wants to emphasize arts; let them do that; and let Americans choose where their kids go to school.
If Obama is smart, he will abandon pouring more and more money into the sinkhole of public education and he will fight for a real change, and not try to "reform" education.
I am a Bush supporter, as many of you know; but in this area, he failed; he failed in Texas and he failed in the US in the realm of education. I know what he wanted to do, but the execution of his plan was poor (in Texas, this was not necessarily his fault, btw). But the big problem is, mandatory, no-choice public education. It needs to be scrapped.
You are Democrats. Don't you support change? Don't you support freedom? Don't you support free choice? Don't you support the idea that you can make intelligent choices? If you believe in those things, then take the next logical step...
