Greetings from Denver, Colorado! For the next five days, we'll be sharing the latest from the 2008 Democratic National Convention right here on the national campaign blog.
This afternoon three Obamas - Michelle, Malia, and Sasha - touched down on a scorching tarmac at Denver International Airport, where they were greeted by a crew that included Colorado Governor Bill Ritter, First Lady Jeannie Ritter, their daughter Tally, several first-time delegates, and - in recognition of the upcoming National Delegate Service Day - volunteers from service organizations.
As Michelle exchanged hugs with members of the group, the kids connected as well. Tally Ritter presented Malia and Sasha with their very own Colorado Rockies jerseys and welcomed the girls to Colorado.
Check out video footage from the tarmac below, and stay tuned for further updates from here in Denver.

The Olympics are over except for the closing ceremony. America won 110 medals. Yesterday, America’s attention was refocused on winning the Whitehouse. To do so takes money. Why not combine American pride for the accomplishments of American athletes and the JOY of having Senator Biden on this train bound for 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Why not donate per medal?
At a “thin” dime per medal the total would be $11.00
At a “dollar” per medal it would be $110.00
At a penny per medal it would be, “a dollar and a dime.”
Any Amount is Appreciated:

Clinton to release her delegates to Obama |

Aug 24th 2008 at 10:44 pm EDT (Updated Aug 24th 2008 at 10:44 pm EDT)
DENVER, Colorado (CNN) -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton will release her delegates to Sen. Barack Obama, a Clinton spokesman said Sunday, the eve of the Democratic National Convention.
Sen. Hillary Clinton will meet with her delegates on Wednesday before that night's roll call, a spokesman says.
Also Sunday, the Democratic Party decided delegates from Michigan and Florida -- states that had been penalized for moving their 2008 presidential primaries to January -- will get full voting rights at the event.
The moves answer some questions that lingered ahead of the convention, which starts Monday in Denver.
Clinton, who suspended her presidential campaign in June after Obama secured enough delegates to win the party's nomination, will meet with her delegates at a reception in Denver on Wednesday afternoon -- before that evening's delegate vote on the nominee, spokesman Philippe Reines said.
"[The reception is] an opportunity for Sen. Clinton to see her delegates -- many for the first time since the primaries ended -- thank them for their hard work and support and most importantly, to encourage them to support and work for Sen. Obama as strongly as she has, in order to elect him in November," Reines said.
Because Clinton suspended her campaign instead of dropping out, she kept the pledged delegates she earned in the primaries and caucuses. Earlier this month, Obama's campaign said it agreed to put Clinton's name in nomination at the convention "in recognition of the historic race she ran and the fact that she was the first woman to compete in all of our nation's primary contests." Watch a preview of the convention
Clinton already has urged the 18 million people who voted for her in the primaries to get behind Obama.
Meanwhile, the Democratic National Committee unanimously voted to end sanctions against Florida and Michigan.
The party initially stripped Florida and Michigan of their delegates for holding presidential primaries earlier than the party had wanted. However, in late May, the DNC's rules and bylaws committee voted to reinstate the delegates but give them each a half-vote.
Sunday's decision gives the delegates a full vote at the convention.
Ending the sanctions had been a goal of Clinton, who won Florida and Michigan in her unsuccessful bid for the Democratic presidential nomination. Obama endorsed lifting the sanctions after Clinton's withdrawal from the race.

There are hundreds of volunteers who want to work for Barack Obama this fall in the swing states, but a lot of these volunteers, students and recent college graduates like myself (Stanford 2008), don't have the resources to get where they are needed.
If you have 25,000 miles on any airline, you likely have enough miles to sponsor a verified volunteer's trip to work in a swing state! Talking to undecided voters face to face is the best way to fight all the smear campaigns and attack ads we are facing.
In the primaries one woman with a phone line raised 2 million miles for Obama! For the general election we can raise even more!

HRC releasing her delegates, please the only reason she is doing so is because she knows that she was not going to get all her delegates to vote for her. I am so sick of the games Clinton's and some of her surrogates(James Carville and Paul Begla) are playing. Like Jeff Tubin from CNN said if these people are real democrats, they should quit complaining and support senator Obama.
If these people make Obama lose this election, They will succeed in destroying the democrat party.
I do not understand why these people are holding Obama for beating HRC fair and square.

James Carville, Paul Begala,(presently) and David Gergens (earlier this week)are truly lobbying Hillary's delegation to start a conflict during the convention. She is now asking Obama for his donor's list and not asking the McCain camp to stop playing the Ad they are presently running. Therefore, the CNN polls from last night are not increasing for Obama-Biden after Barack named him as his vice on yesterday because of the Hillary delegates. We need to pray. I feel confident it will all work in Obama's favor in the end. However, I have lost all respect for the Clintons once again.

Well, here's what you do - you ignore them and work like you're 20 points behind. We're clearly in a battle - do you want to go backward to when hangers were used for abortions and nations flexed their nuclear arsenals at each other during the coldest of cold wars?
Or, do you want to move forward - to a time when a woman has financial and reproductive rights equal to that of a man - and nations deal with conflict through diplomacy and compromise.
Do you want to continue on a strategy of greed over compassion? One that says take all you can, give nothing back? Ship jobs to China, to India, to lower paying locations and strip jobs out of the hands of us working class people?
Hell no!
In 2000, Al Gore was cheated out of the White House.
In 2004, John Kerry was swift-boated out.
The American people are sick and tired of the Republicans tearing apart the fabric of our country. And they call themselves patriots? My God, to use the stars and strips as a cover for pulling the rug out from underneath us middle class folks (not to mention the poor), borders on evil. Real, cold, calculated, evil.
So, when we say CHANGE, this is what we mean. It is the grit of the Earth, the dirt on the hands kinda CHANGE that is urgently needed in America.

But I do like your idea of acting like we're 20 behind. I figure we need to win by a big enough margin so that they don't dare tamper with the machines.

House Divided Speech: Joe Biden or Abraham Lincoln?
House Divided -- Text of Entire Speech by President Lincoln, 1868
MONEY QUOTE FROM ABE WAS: "We shall not fail - if we stand firm, we shall not fail."
But Joe Biden's speechwriter's relayed it a bit differently:
JOE: INTRO: Well, it's great to be here! On the steps of the old State House in the land of Lincoln. President Lincoln once instructed us to be sure to put your feet in the right place. Then stand firm. Today, Springfield, I know my feet are in the right place. And I am proud to stand firm for the next president of the United States of America, Barack Obama.
JOE: END OF HIS SPEECH : "And now it's time for all of us, as Lincoln said, to put our feet in the right place and to stand firm."
Only Lincoln never said it is time to put our feet in the right place. He said: "We shall not fail -- if we stand firm, we shall not fail."
Speechwriter taking liberties? No biggie! But let the record show:
BUT ABE NEVER SAID IT EXACTLY THAT WAY......

And seriously, if you haven't looked at the quilt yet, scoot over and take a look.

Hey Fellow Obama/Biden supporters:
Let's stay excited. Don't let the Media (especially CNN) try to discourage us or damper our spirits. We have an amazing candidate and he picked the perfect VP candidate. The next four days there is an amazing line up of speakers who will discuss the most pressing issues that we face. Forget the media - they have incentives to create drama and suggest that this is a close race. Hopefully Hillary and Bill will give great speeches and despite some small groups of people trying to create trouble and make noise, we will come away from the convention a strong and unified party!
Stay excited and get to work.

Since 1992 I stopped watching them, it is annoying, tabloid and false information that they are feeding people. Read, educate yourself and decide, why do you need a talking-head to guide you with anything. They will give you either a headache or a stomach virus. Stay away from the MSM if you can or minimize your exposure to them. You can watch speeches on C-SPAN, for example, why do you go anywhere for the convention. There is always a spin in the MSM, you can't blame them they are paid to do that, that is to mislead people by the big owners (corporations). They are okay with the situation that we are in right now, they are not affected by gas prices, the economy, the war (they actually make profits off of the war), house forclosures and the environment...etc.

"forget the media?" I think that would be a huge mistake since Joe Avevrage Voter is listening intently to what they say. No, we need to COMBAT the media with our own barrage of comments and facts. People who aren't attending the convention should be writing letters to editors and replying on every available online message forum tied to the news stations rather than standing starry-eyed at some Watch Party listening to our own choir preach a message we already accept. McCain and his ilk will be bashing the campaign hard this week as the Convention gets underway and Party revelers are distracted by all the Hollywood style lights, effects, parties and general uproar of the whole affair (to the tune of $17 million of your tax dollars being given to EACH Party for their Party shindigs on top of donations already raised). If you're in Denver to attend, lucky you and enjoy.
If you're not, however, it is imperative that we not sit here and simply adore from afar what is going on while the McCain gorillas rip our candidates to pieces in the press.
If you are at all capable of putting two sentences to paper, it is incumbent upon all of us to be bombarding our local media with letters to the editor and commentary shooting down whatever the Mccain camp brings forth to attack Obama and Biden.
So find out the mailing addresses, email addresses, online submission guidelines, etc of every local media outlet where you live and rail against the McCain poison machine as much as possible this week. The outcome of this election could depend on it. Mr. and Mrs. average voter are not hanging with the partiers in Denver this week; they are working to try to keep their heads above water financially and will relax after work with their favorite newspaper or broadcast media (and we already know the media are too chicken-sh#! to address McCain's mistakes, gaffe's, and unfitness for the office. So it's up to us).

troll = sociopath
Just for laughs, I looked up this word in several dictionaries. Pretty acurate description of a troll.
The word "Sociopath" as defined by eight different dictionaries.
1. a person, as a psychopathic personality, whose behavior is antisocial and who lacks a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience.
2. a person with a personality disorder manifesting itself in extreme antisocial attitudes and behaviour.
3. of, relating to, or characterized by asocial or antisocial behavior or exhibiting antisocial personality disorder
4. a person who is completely unable or unwilling to behave in a way that is acceptable to society.
5. a person, such as a psychopath, whose behavior is aggressively antisocial or deviant.
6. Someone whose social behavior is extremely abnormal. Sociopaths are interested only in their personal needs and desires, without concern for the effects of their behavior on others.
7. A pervasive pattern of disregard for and violation of the rights of others and inability or unwillingness to conform to what are considered to be the norms of society.
8. A person with a personality disorder indicated by a pattern of lying, exploitiveness, heedlessness, arrogance, sexual promiscuity, low self-control, and lack of empathy and remorse. Such an individual may be especially prone to violent and criminal offenses.

Generally speaking, I'm not all that impressed with the McCain biased coverage from CNN, but tonight John King made a statement I hope the campaign heard.
King stated the reason there's still division is all the old CLinton surragates like Carville and Paul come on and consistenly talk about Hillary being slighted. Of course, her supporters hear this, think it's actually true, and get turned off the ticket.
In addition, David Gergen now appears to be paid by the McCain campaign because he certainly isn't acting as a democrat. Roland Martin, who I like babbles on so long people listening to him forget the message.
By comparision, all Republican talking heads deliver a consistent message. They answer the question asked and then immediately pivot back to attacking Obama. They are very good and more importantly, very consistently on message and that message is attack, attack, attack.
The campaign needs to get the surrogates under control and get them all on the same playbook and it needs to be dealt with soon.

Telling posters to turn off CNN or any other network is like burying your head in the sand so you don't confront a problem. Obama will lose if that's how we deal with a problem
That is not what Obama is about. His approach is to confront the problem, come to a consensus solution and deal with it.
The fact is our suggogates need direction-what is wrong with saying that. It's like saying go make phone calls, knock on doors. etc.
Maybe, just maybe someone from HQ will read the post and do something about it.

Paul Begala and John King apparently had a major off-camera fight about those comments. On camera, Begala clarified that he thought Obama didn't handle the situation with Hillary the right way politically, but that Biden was the best choice for the ticket. He said that he never thought Hillary should be the VP.
Regarding surrogates, Barack has said numerous times that Republicans really know how to campaign and win elections - they just don't know how to govern. I think the democratic party is going to support the Obama-Biden ticket very aggressively. My sense is that everyone really likes Barack but they sincerely wonder if he has enough experience to be elected President. The key word was "elected." I think he has enough intelligence and judgement to be President, but I don't think he has enough experience for the low-information [and senior] voters who will only see a Black man with 1 year in the Senate before running.
Joe Biden has a 60% approval rating among seniors and a strong track record of supporting women. I think the democrats have total confidence in this combined ticket and will leave the convention with a strong, consistent, and clear message for voters.
BTW, Gergen has served both Republican and Democratic administrations [so maybe he's not a democrat]... Roland struggles to get heard, so maybe that's why he tries to make so many points at one time!

At least as of June 2007, Barack was the only candidate to make his earmarks public (

Link
points out, his coziness with lobbyists and willingness to do their bidding amounts to much the same thing as earmarks.
So does anyone have more insight into McC and earmarks, and whether or not he has made all his public?

The reason why were tied in the latest poll is because only 66% of supporters of Hillary Clinton are now supporting Barack! That's absolutely crazy and absurd and I can't blame her supporters but no offense Hillary and Bill. They haen't put any confidence to their supporters to vote for them. After the bad primary concerning John Mccain and our current president, John McCain praised George Bush and made it clear who his supporters should support. HIllary and Bill have done none of that. They make it seem like theyd rather there supporters vote for Mccain. I have much respect for both of them but they have to put the primary behind them and give 110% in support for Obama. The only reason we can lose this election is if the hillary people don't come on board.

I am one of the 18 million people who voted for Clinton - but I'd like to take my vote back - beginning in March, after a friend suggested I read Obama's books, I became a passionate supporter of Barack Obama - made calls, wrote letters, talked to friends - even went door to door in another state.
I just don't trust the polls. Most of my friends supported Clinton and were quite upset that she didn't get the nomination, but... they are all 100 percent behind Obama now and wouldn't dream of voting for McCain. I even met a Clinton delegate who is over the top passionate about electing Obama now. I have met several ex-Clinton supporters at events who are now whole-heartedly behind Obama.
I am anxious, certainly - and understand your concerns. (I like what someone said about the republicans knowing how to win elections but not knowing how to govern.) Republicans seem to be much better at staying on message and repeating the same thing over and over.
That being said, neither I nor any of my friends have ever been polled. While Hillary supporters are upset, I really can't believe many will vote for McCain.
If things had turned out differently and Hillary had won the nomination, I would have been depressed and may not have been quite as enthusiastic about supporting her - BUT I know I would have worked to get her elected - anything else would just be stupid. I'll never forget an interview I heard from someone who had protested the DNC convention in 1968 and refrained from voting that Nov. - many people doing this gave us President Richard Nixon. This person who was interviewed said that not voting was one of the worst thing he did and he deeply regretted it now.
I have an eighteen year old son - hearing John McCain say he wouldn't be against a military draft gave me the shot in the arm I needed - I will be knocking on moor doors this fall - care to join me????!!!!
PS - I wished for another VP - but the more I learn about Sen. Biden - I REALLY, REALLY like him!! Absolutely great choice, Senator Obama!!

No, that's just what he claims. That does not seem to be the case. With just 20 minutes of google research, I have found at least 3 separate earmark requests (one of which passed), including one where he specifically called it an earmark:
"I would like to request that EPA either re-program $5 million out of existing funds or earmark the amount from an appropriate account," McCain wrote in his Oct. 9, 1992 letter to then-EPA Administrator William K. Reilly, calling the earmark "crucial to protecting the public health and the environment."
Link
So if all he's doing is saying he doesn't have any, yet that's not really true, then he hasn't really made his earmarks public.
That's the way it seems to me, but if anyone has followed the earmark issue more closely, I'd love to learn more about it.

I think there is a difference between asking someone to earmark (mark for identification) something and requesting funds as an addendum to a Bill for a particular project in your home State. I cannot think of any occasion where McCain has sought or delivered a plug nickel for our State for any project. McCain has made a career of not asking for earmark funds for our State. In other words, Arizona has gotten the shaft with respect to our share of the special project funds typically added to Bills. Not all projects are ridiculous and unimportant wastes of government funds. Another reason why I cannot stand McNutcase. Obama/Biden '08

I agree with you that not all earmarks are bad, but I think this counts:
"Sen. John McCain secured millions in federal funds for a land acquisition program that provided a windfall for an Arizona developer whose executives were major campaign donors, public records show.
McCain, who has made fighting special-interest projects a centerpiece of his presidential campaign, inserted $14.3 million in a 2003 defense bill to buy land around Luke Air Force Base in a provision sought by SunCor Development, the largest of about 50 landowners near the base. SunCor representatives, upset with a state law that restricted development around Luke, met with McCain's staff to lobby for funding, according to John Ogden, SunCor's president at the time.
The Air Force later paid SunCor $3 million for 122 acres near the base. It was the highest single land transaction of the private lots purchased by the government — three times the county's assessed value and twice the military's estimated value. SunCor also donated another 122 acres. Alan Bunnell, a spokesman for SunCor's parent company, Pinnacle West Capital, said the donation was meant to minimize the company's tax bill and enhance the value of adjacent property it owns.
McCain has long-standing ties to SunCor and Pinnacle West: . . .
Craig Holman, a lobbyist for the government watchdog group Public Citizen, said McCain appeared to be helping campaign donors.
"Any time the executives of a corporation work hard at raising funds for any candidate, they almost always want something in return," Holman said. "When it comes to SunCor … they were asking for a specific earmark. And McCain delivered."

Spurned by his colleagues, McCain took his case to the head of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency."

hey Obamas~ I posted this on another thread.. but I really really think we ought to do something with this.. I've sent it to HQ- in hopes they see a great ad opportunity here... but WE could do something also - as citizens.. I'm thinking we should all send job apps to John? Any other suggestions? Here's the story:
John Mclettuce has offered US $50/hr to pick lettuce in Yuma this summer- because well, he thinks we Amuracun peeples won't lower ourselves to pickin' lettuce for a measley $50. per hour (I'm literally trying to find out how to apply- should we call him? .. Wouldn't this make a lovely Ad? Courtesy of 'Eclecticbrotha' at DKos:

So,American people can't do certain jobs, even at $50/hr?...who wouldn't pick up lettuce for that amount of money?...I certainly don't make that much!
And BTW,those poor immigrants are paid $5/hr NOT $50,so I don't even see his ridiculous comparison

August 23
By Bill Johnson - Aug 23rd, 2008 at 10:46 pm
Sunrise this morning found me just crossing the Continental Divide at Homestake Pass. Watching the sun rise from a mountain top is one of my fovorite ways to greet the day.
Covered 567 miles today and visited the towns of Bozeman, Livingston, Billings, Miles City and Glendive in Montana and Dickinson, North Dakota.
At a rest stop outside of Billings a man and a woman flagged me down as I was leavning and told me they were on their way to Denver. They have an album they are going to release there this week. The album is "Seven Songs For America, And One For The World" from Bergevin Brothers Music. Jon and Joe are the brothers , one of which I met, but I am so good with names I don't have a clue which one it was I met. When they make a movie of our trip, "Fired Up, Ready to Go" will be our theme song.
The tunes are kind of Gospel. I enjoyed them. Matt Cameron of Pear Jam is featured, but, to me that means little. I am still listening to Bob Dylan and Johnnie Cash.
I had a great visit with the folks at the Billings office. Over all a great day.
As I was driving through the big empty, it became obvious that our nation should never be held hostage to oil producing nations. Right here we've got oil and enough coal for hundreds of years, if we can clean it up. And the wind! I fought it all day. Recently, I was involved in a platform debate here in Montana over wind development. I have always assumed everyone was in favor of it. But, as is usual I was wrong. Once the energy of the wind is captured , it must be moved to where it is needed. As of now we do not have the infrastructure to move the power produced by the proposed wind farms in Montana. That means more high power electrical lines running across our state. I think that is fine, let get to work, but some do not want the lines.
I am resting comfortably in Dickinson, North Dakota now.

Op-Ed
AS the real campaign at last begins in Denver this week, this much is certain: It’s time for Barack Obama to dispatch “Change We Can Believe In” to a dignified death.
“Change We Can Believe In” was brilliantly calculated for a Democratic familial brawl where every candidate was promising nearly identical change from George Bush.
R.I.P., “Change We Can Believe In.” The fierce urgency of the 21st century demands Change Before It’s Too Late. Obama must rekindle the “fierce urgency of now.”
I think the writer brings out some good points. This is a very interesting article.

CNN is playing dirty games with people by trying to incite Hillary supporters to create chaos so that they can have lots of tabloid stuff to cover and get more coverage .
CNN really needs to be taken of TV cable...and its very sickening when that Wolf guy calls the team''best political team on TV''...they have had a lot of mails from me giving him a piece of my mind.
Plan to start it all over again.Hope we all do that and flood them with our thoughts of how filthy and divisive their tactics are.

I disagree. I think we have to do an email campaign to the pundits who are being unfair and an email campaign to their sponsors.
We also have to let the few good pundits know when we like what they say.
I will continue to watch all of the shows, so I know what is being said and I will know how to talk to others. I get an idea what they watch by what they say and I know how to respond.
Watching only the ones that say everything is swell and beautiful is like sticking your head in the sand.
Just my humble opinion - Please don't shoot me.

I recently learned that a formerly good friend had turned into an endless regurgitation of fox lies. Not watching is great for personal peace of mind (and keeping their ratings down), but it doesn't make them go away. They are left free to warp others' minds.

Why is CNN taking polls at ALL?! They took a "poll" right after the VP announcement? Beyond stupid. Like there would be a huuuuuge bump a day later. These people are basically trying to create their own news. It feels very circular. They come up with these fake polls so they can create the "pulse" of the race and then chat about their findings all day.
I hate CNN. John King and his dumb magic map...and the talking head saying the same thing over and over....so tiring.
this election cycle has really opened my eyes about the media.

All I can say is that we have to work harder and pray.
God knows how much this election means for me. How can we have McCain as president. He seems on the verge of breaking WWIII. All he talks about is POW or WAR. When he takes a break of those, he wants to drill oil, anywhere. Right there. He has no cure nor care for the economy.
I know why the polls don't go up. It is not only the machination of MSM, it has to do with something else. Something that a lot of people can get pass at.
But please, don't wish for a stroke. We need you here. Good will prevail.

BO and HRC policies are so similar, it is like almost voting for the same person. What can they see in McCain that would make them abandon their party and go vote for everything they are against. It will be a real shame if they do that. BO won let's move on people.

Also, CNN conducted their own poll (no matter how unfair) indicating Obama down in the polls. Their polls are not credible. Everyone knows Blitzer and King are rooting against Obama. From the beginning of this campaign, they've never given him any credit for anything. They've only downplayed any of his accomplishments. I guess I'll turn to TCM. If it comes about that Obama loses this Election because Hillary's supporters voted for McCain, she will never win a national election ever again.
No Obama supporter would ever vote for her if you do this to the Party with so much at stake.
I know I never would.
I would save my vote for anyone else but her if Obama ever lost...Just think about that!
Hillary has pretended to want Obama to win, but I have yet to hear her say, "I want you all to vote for Barack Obama" "If you value woman's issues, if you value Roe Vs Wade, If you value healthcare, you have to support Barack Obama"
All she has said is "if your thinking about voting for John McCain, you have a lot more in common with Obama ten you do with McCain!" Thats it..kind of weak!
Women...Think about Roe Vs Wade!
About Healthcare for all...
About all womens issues that Obama gets such high marks on, and Mccain ges zero's on!
I know that If Obama lost the primary, I would have been really upset. I would have said I wouldnt vote for Hillary, and then would have had too because I could have never voted for a Republican ever again after Bush!
And if Hillary never vetted Obama for VP, yes I would have been insulted, but if the Republicans tried to run that crap comercial to get me to vote for MCCain, I would have been even more angry with them, and voted for Clinton because of that comercial!
I hope all of you come to your senses. This is about the country, not personal vendettas!

I can show you a poll that says he's up. Stop with the polls already. Instead of the polls, how about go register some voters, hold a unite for change event, a fundraiser. Travel to a battleground state and knock on some doors and share with folks why you support Obama, and the importance of his message.
But your battle boots on the ground, instead of your fingers on the computer following the polls. The campaign already has an internal pollster. We don't need any pollsters in this movement. We need an army marching for change!

I think most Democrats who supported Hillary are supporting Obama. Don't believe all these polls and what the news says. They just want a story where there isn't one.

I know that I have and others have posted about it and have used the contact link to send a message to HQ, but this has been going on for over a week.
It's hard to get information to each other quickly when it takes 4,5,6 minutes for a new post to appear. This is not the time for this issue to be going on and though I know it is sometimes hard to correct a problem as I work in the technical field - it is deplorable not to let your customers know that you are indeed aware and are trying to do something about it.
If anyone has any connections at all - PLEASE - get HQ to address this issue.

I decided to watch the three networks today to see what the American public is watching - MSNBC was not too bad, and Fox (I can't believe I'm saying this) was second. CNN was the worst today - hands down.

My brothers and sisters,
Tonight is a tough night. We begin tomorrow a battle that is as simple as good vs evil. One of restoring in all Americans, our true spirit - a spirit that was slowly stolen from us 8 years ago.
Some of us are nervous, I understand that. This is not going to be easy. Some of us are strong, ready, eager to launch. Others of us have strayed, lost direction. Distracted, they have fallen to the corporate driven drug that spews out of our televisions and our news wires twenty four hours a day.
The CNN, the FOX, the AP - they have gone for ratings over reality. With 'reporters' who have traded in their integrity as journalists for short term ratings gains. They have become whores - seeking to grab us, to tempt us, to infect us. To addict us.
Brothers and sisters, some of our people, nervous maybe, seeking answers, have fallen victim to the CNNs - they have become Johns while the corporate pimps rake in the dough.
I beg of each of you, let us all rise up a level, on this evening before the battle truly begins. Let those of us who have been through it once help guide the others through the darkness so that they too can see. Let us reach out our hands to pull those who have given into MSM-temptation out of the swampy waters.
Raise them up! Raise us up! Together we will win this - divided we will fail.
If you are with me, my brothers and sisters, then take that energy and donate:

Or canvass. Or phonebank. Take action.
So tonight, let it out and let it all go. Tomorrow, we raise up.

I know lots of people are figuring it out - we just have to remind them to take constructive action in response - not to get all distracted and lose direction. The keyword: focus.

I was raised in a progressive household where voting/being informed were our civic DUTY and the news was always on when I was growing up. I hated the news when I was little and grew to appreciate it as I grew older.
It's been only these past few months when I've realized what vile poison the MSM really is. People don't GET that CORPORATIONS with FINANCIAL interests are influencing the "NEWS" they are watching. Why don't pepole understand that they're looking at is what someone else's WALLET wants them to be looking at???
I just can't take it anymore. I turned off the MSM during the primaries, and encourage everyone else to do the same.

The MSM is controlled by the rightwing conservative Republican movement. This is why you hear the crap you hear on their programs. They are charged with influencing the thinking of low information voters, people who will not or cannot think for themselves. If you want people to vote a certain way, or think a certain way you use the media. This is how support for the Iraq war was obtained.
This is why our Change movement is so important. We go to the grassroots. We tell them the story. We educate the ordinary people, the real Americans. We do it one person at a time. This is how we destroy the power of the MSM. Also, boycott them. Don't watch their shows. I haven't watched any of them since February. Except Olbermann and I will watch Maddow on MSNBC. To make a difference we have to get involved--contribute to the cause, register voters, understand the issues, read Barack's Blueprint for Change, share this information with others.
We are more powerful than the MSM. Let's exercise this power.

Two Nevada delegations are packing their bags for the Republican National Convention Sept. 1, and if the latest party ruling stands, neither of them will be seated.
A fiasco at the state convention spawned the dueling delegations -- one for John McCain and one for Ron Paul -- and their continued wrangling has exposed a split in the party that may spell trouble in a key state for the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

McCain's problem is not that he spent those 5 and a half years as a POW but that he never stopped being one.
He is no freer today than he was then. He relives that experience each and every time there is some crisis in any part of the world and takes on this mentality of needing force to solve it.
The situation he was relegated to in the Hanoi Hilton did not serve his ability to strike back. He was under their control and his torture or mistreatment through those 51/2 years was not in his hands and he could not fight back as he wanted to.
His treatment give him a posture of wanting to take the fight to them rather than lying back and waiting. Discussions would not settle anything for him as a POW because no matter his pleas for it to stop they fell on deaf years.
What he fails to connect however is that the role of diplomacy is not the same as confinement in a military POW camp, where the need for gaining information is different than the actual talk to settle differences.
John McCain is still within the confines of the Hanoi Hilton and unable to separate the two. Diplomacy and being a POW.
This of course is my take on it. I am not a therapist not in the psychological field, but I've been around too many of my fellow Viet Nam veterans who have gone through this to know that they too feel this way.

Wow, You nailed it. I've been saying something along those lines for awhile.
When he speaks of Iraq and "victory" it's like he's still trying to fight Vietnam. He also implys that the soldiers won't have any honor unless there is victory. It's as if he is still feeling the pain about the way the soldiers in Vietnam were treated or he was treated. Yet, he does nothing to help our current soldiers.
McCain is still searching for his own victory and won't hesitate to use our young men and women to get it. Even if it takes more wars and another 100 years in Iraq.
I like your take on it Donald!

All this done in order for them to have Advertisers BUY time on their channels who in the end sell you PRODUCTS. It is not. It has never been. Please i beg of you, Please forget all these POLLS-talking memo- PROPAGANDA. I ask you to think about this. Any news that has nothing to do with the weather or some disaster is basically GOSSIP intended for Advertisers to buy some time.

I never saw Barack's 2004 address. I heard a lot about it from EVERYONE but had never heard it myself.
I saw small snips of it on news shows and the buzz of him running.
Finally he announced. I was torn between he and Biden with some thoughts about Hillary
When he made stops in Iowa I started to come and listen. On one stop (CB) he talked about what we have been given by the generations before us. And how we ALL stand on someone else's shoulder. Then I was hooked
I started volunteering for this campaign back in Iowa. Nebraska was to have it's first caucus in Feb but there was no one but the Iowans around doing something. So I crossed the river and started doing the work.
I volunteered when he came here and met some of the same staffers! I was a captain at our caucus!
When I didn't get a delegate spot I was upset and came to this website. You all were GREAT and gave lots of advice. I listened and was selected as a volunteer for the convention.
I just changed jobs and didn't think I would be able to go (too much $)
I came back to the website...Today everything fell in place. My old boss said "you're going if I have to pay for the ticket myself!" A blogger here called me and said " you can share a room/expenses with me"
"My co-workers said you have to go this was your dream
Finally, the candidate for senate came to my church and said "I'll see you Tues night. You of all people can't miss this convention"
SO, I'm going!!!! My ticket in hand with a room waiting and assigned to the invesco? Field for the big night!
GOD is good! You guys are awsome ! Awsome! Awsome!

Agreed 100%...
Polls are always reported [or not reported] to push a certain narrative. For example, analysts and pundits keep saying that Barack should be 10 to 15 points ahead of McCain based on the matchup between a generic democrat and a generic republican. If you look at Real Clear Politics (RCP), you would probably walk away thinking this was true. The average shows that a generic dem is 10% ahead of a generic republican. The pundits look at that and conclude that Barack does not do as well as a generic dem. THAT IS COMPLETELY UNTRUE. If you look at the numbers that make up the 10%, you will find the generic dem at 47% and the generic republican at 37%. Now ask yourself this: is Barack running 10% behind the 47% for a generic dem? NO, he is not. Today's polls show Barack at 49% and McCain at 45%. So Barack is 2% ahead of the generic dem.
SO... what accounts for the 10% difference? Look at the generic republican numbers. Barack is not behind generic democrats, McCain is ahead of the 37% for generic republicans. Pundits are pushing the narrative that Obama is not doing as well as he should be, so they ignore McCain's numbers. That is why you have to ignore the polls or do the analysis yourself. Polls should be viewed as an extension of the MSM.

...But it's important not because of the details about Barack Obama's policy strengths. I believe his policies are strong, especially the policies I know something in particular about — his technology policies are extremely strong. But policy differences between these two candidates are actually quite small. As the New York Times said in their editorial endorsing Hillary Clinton, "On the major issues there is no real gulf separating the two."
So in policy alone I'm not sure that there's any good reason to prefer the one over the other. Yet I still think it extraordinarily important that one win over the other: namely Barack over Hillary Clinton. For what's at stake here, I think, is something much more important than the particulars of some laundry list of policy disagreements that there might be between them.
So what is that something important — why should one support Barack over Hillary?
Well I think there are three factors to consider here: character, integrity, and what each candidate would do.

Clinton’s team immediately dubbed the ad misleading. "Hillary Clinton's support of Barack Obama is pretty clear,” said Clinton spokeswoman Kathleen Strand. “She has said repeatedly that Barack Obama and she share a commitment to changing the direction of the country, getting us out of Iraq, and expanding access to health care. John McCain doesn't. It's interesting how those remarks didn't make it into his ad."

Florida Sen. Bill Nelson said he talked with Obama last Tuesday and put forth two names: Biden and Clinton. "He's an excellent choice for Barack in Florida," Nelson said of Biden, noting that he "knows all the players on the world stage," but has never lost touch with his working-class roots. "He's got appeal across the board," Nelson said.
Why? Because folks like Bill Nelson, a Clinton supporter and a fighter for seating the Florida delegation to the convention, have some credibility with Clinton supporters. Look at how Nelson frames the issue. He says he recommended Clinton and Biden. He makes it seem picking Biden is a nod to Clinton. That is the type of framing I would use if I was the Obama campaign.

I just read this HuffPo article on Sen Biden too. It has some links to his financial status.
"In recent days, John McCain has said that the folks he considers rich are the ones with assets of more than $5 million. And he also apparently has forgotten the number of houses he owns.
Compare this to Joe Biden who in 2005 was ranked 99th out of 100 senators in terms of personal wealth.
And amazingly in 2006, Open Secrets lists Biden as 108th out of all US Senators (i.e., negative 8! How did he do that?) with a near negative value on total income and assets.
Biden has not enriched himself through marriage, book deals, land swaps, or even betting on Intrade."

It just means he has not used his position in the Senate to get rich, which is what quite a few other Senators have done. (And some former presidents by charging huge sums to give speeches. Thinking of Reagan in particular here. All should take a lesson from Harry Truman, who thought trading on the office of the presidency once out of it was unethical.) Also, this malarky in the media about Obama's choice of Biden goes against the message of chance is ridiculous. The reason Joe Biden ran for president himself is that he wants to change things. He will be an excellent VP.

The Irony - Cindy McCain has a half-sister whose existence she will not acknowledge. Cindy McCain was the sole heir to her father's fortune - Cindy's half sister (who also has the same father) received nothing - not growing up, not in adulthood, not even when he died.
Sad to see that they want to go there.

I'm excited about Denver - Looking forward to both HRC's speech and Barack's. She could really hit one out of the park for us.
I hope Teddy is there tomorrow.
A few other thoughts:
- Will we have a war room in MN for the repub convention? (seems like a good idea). McCaskill, Stabenow, Webb, Clark, etc.
- Is Barack appearing by satellite before Thursday?
- Is Barack planning any appearances on Letterman or Leno next week?
Also, I hope we have done the research and have some ads ready for Portman and Pawlenty (Romney would be too easy).

I am a strong AA woman and have lived a good, christian life. I have suffered racism and sexism but have moved forward proudly in spite of everything.
I must say that I have never been so disappointed in these women who support HRC that want to do our canidate harm. I chose not to support/vote for HRC because I know that she can be a polorizing figure (this campaign is a perfect example)and we need something new, CHANGE.
I chose to vote for Obama because that's what he promised, a new way, Change we can believe in; Not because he's an African American.
With sadness and regret, I know that many of these women are voting for her because she's a woman. She represents a voice and the time, considering our economy, war, and so many other crucial issues to be selfish.
Tonite and every nite from here on I will pray that we can come together as a unified party and to erase all my negative feelings I have at this point.

Yesterday I was one of about 200 people to gather in Madison, WI for an all-day training session for team members at Obama HQ. I have to share with you all how impressed I am with the professionalism of the operation--and the fact that similar sessions were being held concurrently in 35 WI locations, as well as all over the country.
The main Chicago HQ had prepared a Power Point that schooled us in the Obama Way. In the afternoon, we watched Obama and Biden on the big screen and the energy in that room was electric. I was so fired up after I left.
I came away with the realization that there is so much we can do, at whatever level we are able:
virtual phone banking
neighborhood canvassing
bringing supplies and/or food to our local HQ
writing letters to the editor
ghost writing letters (if you've been pubbed too often locally) for others to sign their names to
Offering to house volunteers for canvass weekends
Networking with friends to find new Obama volunteers
The only thing I haven't figured out is if you are working on an Obama Team, whether your work gets credited to our online system. I'm still at 1, which doesn't reflect what I am actually doing for the campaign. Oh well. It's not about me; it's about us.

Amen! It is not about us or any score on a dashboard. I am feeling the "fierce urgency of now" in a big way as I realize August is almost over. We have just a little over a month to register voters in Virginia, and we really need to register a LOT. If you live in a state that Sen. Obama is pretty sure to carry and can come help out in Virginia, please do. We need all the help we can get. We have had a student from England working in our office the past couple of weeks. He had some lag time after finishing up an internship in DC, so donated his final two weeks in the US to working for Barack Obama. It has been great listening to him call folks! Anyway, he's going home, so someone needs to come and replace him.

SAW THIS ON JED REPORT HAD TO GIVE IT TO EVERYONE
OBAMA ATTACK AD: "Judgement."
START
"I'm Barack Obama and I approve this message."
Open by intercutting McCain's soundbites with clips of Rumsfeld, Cheney, Bush, McCain making reckless statement after reckless statement about Iraq ("last throes of the insurgency," "I doubt it'll last 6 weeks," " We will be greeted as liberators," then cut to bold white lettering on black background: "BUSH = MCCAIN....4 MORE YEARS." Then cut to that unflattering photo of McCain hugging Bush and slowly zoom in.
END.
Pump millions into running that ad nationally and the election is over.
I'd also throw in additional clips, including Rumsfeld shaking hands with Saddam Hussein, but I don't think the Obama campaign would have the balls to do it.
Obama's media people have already copied an outside ad, and I'd hope they'd follow your lead with this one. They certainly should have done so with a couple of your previous ads.

Boycotting can work. We need a triggering event like the ABC debate provided. I cancelled two of my three Cablevision services and wrote a letter to the CEO (Chuck Dolan) and told him it was because they are a sponsor of CNN, FOX News and MSNBC. I also let him know that I cancelled because the networks skewed coverage in favor of Senator McCain. Tracy Hamilton at their executive relations department called me back and we had a debate about it on the phone.
I also got a call back from an attorney at the FCC after I emailed their five commissionaires and told them I knew there was manipulation going on at the networks. The guys name was Mark Berlin and he left some nonsense about how the networks can show favoritism, but it contradicts the documents the FCC sent me by email stating they are against propaganda.

I would dare say that if you were to compare Hillary's attack speeches on McCain versus Hillary's attack speeches on Obama, it says a lot.
Her heart was into attacking Obama, but her heart is not into attacking McCain.
If she truly stands for the causes of the working-class, it is paramount to fight just as hard (if not harder) for them against the policies of McCain and the republican party platform. Any attack against that is less heartfelt against Obama conveys two messages:
1. She really wants McCain to win so she can run in 2012.
2. She does not care about the working class - just her ambition to be president.
Hillary needs to really let McCain have it on Wednesday with greater intensity than she went after Obama - otherwise, everyone will see through her - especially her supporters.

It is time for Change. Only then can we take our country back, restore our constitutional rights that were taken from us during the last 8 years, heal the economy and take care of them myriad other tasks to restore American both within and in the world. Taking back the media is part of this change. I respect the constitutional guarantee of freedom of speech, but I do not believe this is the freedom to lie to manipulate the American people. The press exists to protect and foster our life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. But the MSM through its biases insulates the American from the truth, through its manipulations it takes from us the very things it should be protecting. A free press is not synonymous with what we have for the MSM today. If we are to truly be a free people, we need a press, a media that tells the truth, is unbiased, is not an arm or agency of the government or vast political establishment. We can't have well-paid press prostitutes knowing messing with the minds of the American people. I could go on, but I think you get the point. I agree with the boycott. It is one tactic we can use at this time. We need many more.

This is our time. It is time for the American people to stand up and declare their freedom from the top 5 percent who have run this country. We can do it. We must do it.
Very important, we don't need another world war.

What pisses me off is the fact the media will not challenge J.M on the truth of his ads. they will just put them on a loop for J.M free of charge. and if barack has a good week the media makes sure he has 3 bad ones. look at the oversees trip obama took. Mccain is never challenged by the media they just carry the narrative john says about barrack as truth. all i got to say is since the media will cover barack this week then barack and all speakers at the convention go nuclear on the evil doers @ss.
