I'm reading comments on other blogs, and noticing a common Republican push back line.

"Politicians change positions / flip flop / lie. This is a minor policy change / flip flop / lie. So why is it a big deal? Palin is a woman. Ergo you are sexist to pick out her lie and make a big deal out of it."

Sorry to be long-winded. The lie wouldn't be a huge deal if it not were for the context in which it was told. The fact she's a women has nothing to do with it, and you shouldn't respond. This lie is BIG for two reasons: told on national TV, and in her INTRODUCTION to the NATION.

Need to point your attention to the fact that the Republican focus group showed people gave the most positive response to this single statement by Palin, being against the Bridge to nowhere.

She's a clean slate to people nationally, and the first thing they hear from her mouth is her past ability to stop corruption and take on "the old boy's network".

What's egregious about this lie is that it makes it hard to dispell the lie, because she was so bold to tell it, and she is so likable. Call it the cognitive dissonance barrier. Good looking people are more compelling, and confident people are more believable, and she's got both qualities.

That's part of the reason that you see MSM journalists are tepid in their reporting of this specific lie.

Another point I want to make, there's a huge difference between flip-flopping and lying. Flip-flops are legitimate changes in politicians opinions, that evolve as they understand a situation/policy better. They can flip-flop and still be honest about it. But what Palin has done with the bridge to no where is to flip-flop and lie about it. She leads one to believe she was against the bridge to begin with, and that she returned the money, which she didn't as reported by others.

Folks, this is Palin and McCain campaigns achille's heal. Imagine the betrayal that people will feel and backlash that can occur if they knew the truth.

So how to break the cognitive dissonance barrier? Point out her chutzpah to everyone you know. The lie Palin told while introducing herself to the nation, on National TV, and on the single issue that people respond well to, government integrity.

and if you donate to the red cross, they distribute it evenly to where it's needed. i don't know about the others, but i know first hand about the red cross.

they were there for us when i was a kid and our house burned down.

they were there for us when our community was ravaged by floods in june. at that point, they were surviving on credit. that was even after the outpouring of support after 9/11.

now they are going to be asked again to help and they will, as always.

The Red Cross is an incredible organization. When I was 10, our home burned to the ground. We had the clothes on our back and my mother's purse. The RC put us up in motel with adjoining rooms and even located our family cat for us. The RC then helped my mother get to thrift stores to get us 6 poor children new clothes and shoes. The RC helped find us a new rental house and helped my mother locate furniture. They stayed with our family from tragedy to re-established home. This is a good time to give to an important organization. One never knows when a tragedy may strike and who will be the person who needs help.

Congratulations Jim on your first..

Let us not forget these people in the live of Gustav.

Prayers are as important as donations, yet donations can be answers to those prayers.

Whenever this country suffers a massive disaster, like Katrina, the I35 bridge and now Gustav, we are there to support those dealing with the hardship.

We are there in prayer, deeds and of course with our pockets.

We can not leeave Americans behind as Bush/McCain did during those two disasters I mentioned above.

Katrina victims are still victims in the true sense of the word, thanks in large part to our current administrations actions (or non actions).

We still here in Minnesota ae waiting for Bush to make good on his promise to us here to rebuild the bridge, while standing in front of the twisted metal and concrete as a backdrop, with promises of funding at least 70% of it's reconstruction. Well of the $263 mil cost for it's build we have received a total of $31 mil with no promise of any further help.

We can not allow this hurricane to become another tragedy in waiting like so many before it have become.

We must kepp Washington to it's promise and we must make sure that we are a real source of help for those who suffer should our government once again fail the fine people of the stricken areas.

As we mobilize to once again support the residents of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast, I would urge people to support grass roots organizations such as ACORN, www.acorn.org, Common Ground, commongroundrelief.org, or the Katrina Information Network, Link, that are on the ground in NOLA and the Gulf Coast working directly with people to give them the health care, medicine, clothing, advocacy and rebuilding support they need. Also support the Gulf Coast Civic Works Act, Link. As a strong Obama supporter who has been deeply involved with recovery efforts in New Orleans for the past three years, I can tell you that the Red Cross is not the best choice for an organization to ask people to direct their recovery resources to. Unfortunately, only a small percentage of the hundreds of millions that people donated to the Red Cross three years ago found its way to supporting people on the ground who were trying to get back home to New Orleans and the Gulf Coast or rebuild their lives there post-Katrina and post-Rita. Instead, make sure your donation goes for the purpose you intend by giving to one of the grass roots organizations doing the real recovery work.

Another Palin Firing Scandal Surfaces

Palin, a lifelong member of the National Rifle Assn., started her career as a member of her local city council in Wasilla, Alaska, a town about 45 miles outside of Anchorage, in 1992. She was elected Wasilla’s mayor in 1996, when the city’s population was about 4,600, according to a 1997 press report (via nexis).

In this role, Palin acted in a way that eerily foreshadows her recent actions while governor. Early in her tenure as mayor, the city council threatened to recall her over accusations that she fired the city’s police chief, Irl Stambaugh, and the library director, Mary Ellen Emmons, without warning. She accused them in a letter saying: “I do not feel I have your full support in my efforts to govern the city of Wasilla. Therefore I intend to terminate your employment …” (The Anchorage Daily News, via nexis)

Ultimately, Palin let the library director have her job back; though Stambaugh’s position was not returned. The police chief took the matter to court, where a judge sided with Palin, saying city law allows the mayor to fire the police chief without cause.

When questioned by the Anchorage Daily News at the time, Palin refused to give details on how Stambaugh had not supported her, saying only: ”You know in your heart when someone is supportive of you.”

Perhaps years later Palin will have new perspective on the decision to fire these workers. I’m curious to find out what was her original motivation, as well. I’ll follow up with her at a press conference planned for Monday morning in Anchorage. I’ll also be visiting the city of Wasilla where I’ll be able to pull the original court documents.

The matter did not follow her as she rose to higher positions in Alaska. In fact, the first firing was nearly forgotten, even when the second firing scandal broke. Perhaps in a state desperate for a reformer, Palin’s anti-money-for-votes persona resonates more strongly. In the coming weeks and months, we’ll find out if does on the national stage as well.

I wish we had this yesterday but this strong statement today will do. I think there is a strong defense to the accusation that Obama waited till it became a larger public story because addressing a 'non'-story, even in denouncing and rejecting it would give unwarranted exposure to this type of politics.

I agree with Senator Obama and Richard here with this one proviso. What is important is the Governor possibly becoming a national and international liability. Although this does include family members, it cannot be overlooked, because "evidence now suggests that she [Palin] 1) tried to have an ex-relative fired from his job for personal reasons, something that was clearly inappropriate, and perhaps illegal, though possibly understandable in human terms, 2) fired a state official for not himself acting inappropriately by firing the relative, 3) lied to the public about what happened and 4) continues to lie about what happened." These acts are inexcusable and not characteristic of anyone campaigning for public office, let alone campaigning to be first in line to the Presidency.

No need for us to USE the news.

The story speaks for itself & only reinforces why this woman should not be the VP.

If you are against sex ed & birth control - which she is - then this is what happens. She is free to do what she wants in raising HER kids. The problem is that she wants to have a voice in how we raise OUR kids.

That is what it comes down to.

We all wish the best for this young lady. But we want to make sure that our daughters are provided with all the information they need to stay on course.

And that does NOT mean that any of us are saying she should not choose to have the baby. Let's be clear on that. What we would hope is that if you are going to be anti-choice then you sure as heck should make sure that sex ed & birth control are readily available.

IMHO that is what this is about.

On an earlier thread many accused others here of treating this story as gossip. I disagree. This story is VERY much at the heart of what distinguishes our candidate & theirs.

None of us are attacking this young girl. We ALL know that kids have sex. Not all but many. And b'c of that we want to make sure that they are safe & protected. We would prefer they NOT have sex at such a young age but if they DO then we want them to FULLY understand their options & the consequences.

Because CLEARLY, as Mrs Pailn is so painfully learning, just telling them NOT to have sex does not work.

Again, she is free to raise her kids as she sees fit.

But she wants to insert herself into OUR homes & lives.

FOR THAT REASON & THAT REASON ALONE WE SHOULD ALL BE VERY WORRIED>

I agree. A lot of attention is being focused on Palin. As far as I'm concerned, she doesnt bring enough to the table for me to pay her any attention. That being said, I will enjoy it immensely when Biden takes her to task during the Veep debates. Thats going to be almost as good as when Obama mangles McCain in the presidential debates.

Continuing our focus on McCain, his lies and his awful policies/platform is what is needed from now until November. Whats-her-name will cancel herself out due to not being properly vetted (if at all) by McCain.

How can you say the issue of pro-choice vs pro-life is irrelevant? bbbbbThe ISSUE is VERY relevant. I am specifically speaking of Palin's positon on the issues, not her personal life.

Do you not remember SADDLEBACK? Obama was pounced on because he is pro-choice.

She is in position to be possibly the President of the USA and her positions on these Women ISSUES is VERY relevant. If she becomes President she could be in position to elect Supreme Justices based on her social view regarding Women's issues (abortion, birth control, etc...).

Granted the decisions she make for her family is one thing, but decisions impacting the country as a whole is another. John McCain's age puts her a stronger heart-beat away from the Precidency.

I just think she should have turned down the VP slot, knowing that the scandal would surface, hurting her daughter, who is not running for anything, and is going through a terribly difficult time. You know, the scandal sheets will go for blood with this, and she could have prevented it. Poor judgement? Unbridled Ambition? Crass Insensitivity??? If she had said no, nobody would know, now the whole world knows. I feel sorry for the daughter and I think she is a rotten mother.

Politico's Carrie Budoff Brown reports: At a press avail in Monroe, Mich., Barack Obama on Palin: "Back off these kinds of stories."

"I have said before and I will repeat again: People's families are off limits," Obama said. "And people's children are especially off-limits. This shouldn't be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin's performance as a governor or her potential performance as a vice president. So I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories. You know my mother had me when she was 18 and how a family deals with issues and teenage children, that shouldn’t be a topic of our politics."

On charges that his campaign has stoked the story via liberal blogs:

"I am offended by that statement. There is no evidence at all that any of this involved us," he said. "Our people were not involved in any way in this, and they will not be. And if I thought there was somebody in my campaign who was involved in something like that, they would be fired."

Like BO said we would not always agree, and I do not. She is pushing her far right agenda on my reproductive rights and if she can't handle home than she sure can not handle the US. Stay at home help your 17 year old, and your 5 month old. And make sure the family values work for your other two daughters since you stand so firm on them and want to change laws regarding them.

i do agree with you... is about the VP as a mom and her ideas... i for one would never say anything about the daughter... but her mother as VP will have loads of power if elected so ppl need to know about her values and actions...

On so many levels, Palin should have had the wisdom and good sense to say, "Respectfully Senator McCain, my state and my family need me just now. I am not nearly as experienced a person as the position requires. In all earnestness, you need to ask someone else."

The fact she did not and that he did not realize this BEFORE asking her speaks so loudly it is difficult to agree with anything she is saying.

According to one article, when asked if she was ready to be VP, she said "Yes I am...yup, yup!" Give me a break. She sounds like the little dinosaurs in Land before Time.

We have already apalled the countries of the world by having a non--presidential president in every way. They have felt sorry for us.

Let them have reason to respect us again. Work for Barack! NO to "Yup, yup!"

What you may not realize is that they are trying to spin this as a great, pro-life decision that shores up her pro-life credentials. Saying nothing just lets them do that. This is a woman who said, she would not support an abortion even if her daughter was raped, is against contraception,even for married people, wants to have creationism taught in schools, but no sex education, just abstinance only....she is a proven hypocrite and a liar. I thought adultery and pre-marital sex were taboo with the religious right. Well, between McCain and Palin we have two examples of how that does not seem to be the case.
We have judges at stake here. She is running for the vice presidency of the US, not the City Council. Her judgement and performance as a mother is fair game, as is BO's judgement and performance as a father. I have been on the other blogs all day. Sorry to see the blog police gestapo stifiling opinion again over here.

Palin does not believe in sex education or birth control, so it should be no surprise that her 17 year old unwed daughter is 5 months pregnant. The question is: Did the McCain campaign know this when they asked Palin to join the ticket? Did they fail in their vetting process, which reflects on McCain's judgment or did they know this and decide to policitize such a private family matter? Either way it should reflect poorly on McCain's judgment, certainly not on the young lady who now has been saddled with national public scrutiny because of the political ambitions of the adults around her.

McCain clearly expects to pull a Cheney here. It was the Democratic Party that fought for the right of his daughter, Mary, to have a life long lesbian partner in peace, to be artificially impregnanted, if they so chose; but we were incredibly villianized for standing up for Mary Cheney's rights while her father and his political allies sought to dehumanize her and other gays and lesbians - and in the surreal universe we live in, the rank hypocracy of the Republicans goes unnoticed.

I think McCain's camp knew about this preganacy and are putting all their chips on the pro-life issue and the woman vote.

I think so, and most people would understand her decision to do so. At worst, she would likely be seen as someone who got in over their head and did not understand the pressure of national politics.

The GOP may offer up a different VP selection this Wednesday in nomination also. They may not like all of the attention that has come with the fresh face.

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (CNN) — A senior adviser to the McCain campaign confirmed Monday that Todd Palin, husband to Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, was arrested for driving while intoxicated in 1984.

"Yes, 24 years ago he had a DWI," senior McCain adviser Steve Schmidt told reporters in St. Paul.

Schmidt was asked if he was worried about the news, and replied, “I was not.”

The story was first reported by David Brody, a CNN contributor and Christian Broadcasting Network News Senior National Correspondent.

We'll fight McCain on the issues. Biden with debate Palin. The voters will make up their minds based on that.

No matter what you say outwardly, how you might try to hide behind religion or some other 'holier than thou' stance, in the end, we're all people, dealing with what life throws our ways.

When I hear of Palin's 17 year old daughter being pregnant, I feel compassion and empathy for the long, tough road ahead.

When I hear of Palin's husband getting a DWI, I feel sorry for the guy and hope he's gotten proper treatment for his alcoholism.

I don't think about digging it in and playing 'gotcha' with these kind of things.

Let's follow the led of our next POTUS. No comment about Palin's daughter. We should know that all of this was planned. I can almost guarantee that before the RNC ends, Palin dwill be out (but not before she gathered the ultra-conservatives for McCain), and a new VP choice will be nominated and accepted (nominating the MSM). We are looking at Romney or Lieberman -objectionable at first, but after Palin steps down as expedient. Any bets to this theory?

I can't see how she plans to do the job. I am the mother of 3 and it takes everything I have to do what I consider a good job at home and at my volunteer job.

My brother was born with Down's when I was a preteen and I know how much extra attention a Down's baby needs. I just don't see how she can do it.

That was another great rally. Missed watching while I was away all summer.

There was a really exuberant guy right behind Obama and Biden the whole night that was cool.

Also loved how when Biden was talking about McCain, looking for crowd response, Barack joined right in shaking his "no".

I love you, but you're wrong on this. I don't care that Sarah Palin's daughter is pregnancy. She can have as many kids as her momma has, as long as her mother doesn't impose her abstinence ONLY policies on the rest of us. That's the issue, not the pregnancy.

If Sarah Palin has her way, my teenage son would be denied needed sex education. Needed not only to prevent him from becoming a teenage father and ruining his life, but because it could lead to ending his life. Sarah Palin's views on sex education are in the stone age, and clearly ineffective because her own daughter couldn't live up to the high standard.

If she wants to live in denial with her choice, that's on her, but she has no right to impose her out dated and deadly views on the rest of us. That's the issue, Senator!

I am with you on this one. Barack knows that we do not have to agree with him 100%. He also said that he is lucky if Michelle agrees with him 50%. On this one, I disagree with Barack. Palin's soap opera is relevant because it reflects on:

2. Sarah's so called "conservative values" = hypocrites

Correct on all three counts.

However, unless you are Republican, McCain/Palin is NOT YOUR TICKET. If I were a Repbulican, I'd be very upset.

I am jolly happy she is such a weak VP candidate, and has no command of the issues that dominate this campaign because our candidates, Obama/Biden,the Democratic ticket will mow them both down in the debates.

I just read that Palin's 17 year old daughter is pregnant and her husband had a DWI many years back.

Folks, I know this is fodder for the tabloids - and something some of us may want to fan, but I'd like us to show some respect for her and her family.

Clearly, the Palin family has been through a lot - and raising that child is going to be a stressful thing for the daughter, the young father, the child, and all the other kids. And to make things harder, having a Downs baby is going to require more attention than usual. (I know because my sister has a special needs child).

As for the DWI that her husband got. From what I can tell, it happened many years ago - and we can just hope and pray he's gotten over his alcoholism by seeking therapy, AA, or some other form of rehab.

I don't care if Palin is ultra-right or whatever, I think we need to respect their privacy and their journey through this crazy life.

Well, I've *always* had tremendous respect for Laura Bush, especially after she came to Michelle's defense. I think her words are wise. BoJo should be very careful how they handle the Palin situation.

On the other hand, the ladies within the Democratic party who act as surrogates don't have the same leash. They can go after Sarah Palin wholesale. I hope they tear her apart--respectfully speaking of course. This is about policy, so as long as they stick to the issues (avoiding the tabloid trash rumors) they'll do just fine. :-)

Now is it just me, or does McCain seem to be now obsessed with Russia? Ok, Russia isn't an angel, BUT

Last spring McCain kept making remarks about Russia but not too many people paid much attention to him and that was before the Georgia fiasco

South Ossetia and Karbkhazia ... hmmmmm, now WHY would little Georgia advance into those break-away countries anyway provoking Russia. Of course, Russia did not handle their own invasion back into Georgia well...but well...a top advisor to McCain is the lobbyist for Georgia. Hmmmm

Now Cindy and John McCain say Palin has foreign relations experience because "Alaska is close to Russia" (that was probably the most ignorant statement I've ever heard from the McCains!)

My own gut tells me that McCain WANTS a cold war with Russia and prepared to instigate one. His Iraq war is winding down and McCain only knows Vietnam war era...so rather than concentrate on Afghanistan again...McCain keeps diverting our attention to Russia. Why? And just what was that October surprise the Republicans kept threatening us about?

Somehow, I smell a rat big time. Someone in the foreign relations committee in Washington really needs to keep a VERY close eye on McCain and Bush.

Hi all-

I want to make a few final points, then I will not talk about this subject again.

1. What I like about the blogs is that they really speak the truth. If we were dependent on the MSM, we would not get the real story, just the packaged and contrived story. Because of bloggers, the people have a much stronger voice. If somebody out there says something we know is not true, we can all speak up and set the record straight. We will not be shut down or censored. I get information faster and more accurately here than anywhere else, a good part of the time.

2. Palin revealed her daughter's pregnancy for two reasons. One was supposedly that she wanted to prove baby #5 was hers. That is a bad reason. If people said my baby was not mine and I knew that was untrue, I would ignore it completely...let THEM try to prove the truth wrong. The real reason she outed her daughter, I would argue, is that pretty soon, this fact was going to be abundantly obvious. She could not hide her daughter. That is the real reason she made it public.

Palin "bridge to nowhere" line angers many Alaskans

It garnered big applause in her first speech as Republican John McCain's vice presidential pick, but Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's assertion that she rejected Congressional funds for the so-called "bridge to nowhere" has upset many Alaskans.

During her first speech after being named as McCain's surprise pick as a running mate, Palin said she had told Congress "'thanks but no thanks' on that bridge to nowhere."

In the city Ketchikan, the planned site of the so-called "Bridge to Nowhere," political leaders of both parties said the claim was false and a betrayal of their community, because she had supported the bridge and the earmark for it secured by Alaska's Congressional delegation during her run for governor.

The bridge, a span from the city to Gravina Island, home to only a few dozen people, secured a $223 million earmark in 2005. The pricey designation raised a furor and critics, including McCain, used the bridge as an example of wasteful federal spending on politicians' pet projects.

When she was running for governor in 2006, Palin said she was insulted by the term "bridge to nowhere," according to Ketchikan Mayor Bob Weinstein, a Democrat, and Mike Elerding, a Republican who was Palin's campaign coordinator in the southeast Alaska city.

"People are learning that she pandered to us by saying, I'm for this' ... and then when she found it was politically advantageous for her nationally, abruptly she starts using the very term that she said was insulting," Weinstein said.

Palin's spokeswoman in Alaska was not immediately available to comment.

National fury over the bridge caused Congress to remove the earmark designation, but Alaska was still granted an equivalent amount of transportation money to be used at its own discretion.

Last year, Palin announced she was stopping state work on the controversial project, earning her admirers from earmark critics and budget hawks from around the nation. The move also thrust her into the spotlight as a reform-minded newcomer.

The state, however, never gave back any of the money that was originally earmarked for the Gravina Island bridge, said Weinstein and Elerding.

In fact, the Palin administration has spent "tens of millions of dollars" in federal funds to start building a road on Gravina Island that is supposed to link up to the yet-to-be-built bridge, Weinstein said.

Friday, McCain decided to head down to the storm area for a political photo op session, and of course, to make it appear as if he was on top of the situation... taking action... regardless of the fact that he had no idea of what exactly was needed, or exactly what action to take. With no regard for the people in the area, and no concern over the fact that he would be sucking up valuable emergency resources by his visiting/staying in the area (at least Bush figured that much out), McCain went into STORM SURGE mode!

A lot like Bush/Cheney/McCain did with Iraq -- ACT FIRST, then figure out what is going on, and what is needed later.

Obama, on the other hand, said this:

"“What we want to do is we want to find out first from folks on the ground what is going to be most helpful. We don’t want to solicit a bunch of canned goods that cant get there, or bottles of water and then learn that they already have water,” he later added. “So we are going to wait over the next 48 hours to find out what would be the most useful. I think we can get tons of volunteers to travel down there if it becomes necessary.”

“So it becomes a question of what people on the ground need and once we determine that then we can activate our email list of a couple of million people who want to give back,” he continued.""

McCain headed to the region yesterday (for his political photo/press Kodak Moment) but Obama said he was hesitant to do the same because he was afraid of drawing away local law and emergency resources that are needed whenever he travels. (Bush said the same thing today.... guess McCain didn't get the memo.)

Once again, Obama has PROVEN that he has FAR BETTER JUDGMENT during emergency situations than McCain. Obama waits to receive information FIRST before he just throws ANY solution at it.

McCain shoots first, and asks questions later. He did so with Iraq, and he'll do so with Iran, and he would do so with Russia.

I just read that Palin's 17 year old daughter is pregnant and her husband had a DWI many years back.

Folks, I know this is fodder for the tabloids - and something some of us may want to fan, but I'd like us to show some respect for her and her family.

Clearly, the Palin family has been through a lot - and raising that child is going to be a stressful thing for the daughter, the young father, the child, and all the other kids. And to make things harder, having a Downs baby is going to require more attention than usual. (I know because my sister has a special needs child).

As for the DWI that her husband got. From what I can tell, it happened many years ago - and we can just hope and pray he's gotten over his alcoholism by seeking therapy, AA, or some other form of rehab.

I don't care if Palin is ultra-right or whatever, I think we need to respect their privacy and their journey through this crazy life.

First, we can be hands off of the kid but the actions of the mother and father to be deceitful are in bounds.

Second, per Nate over at 538 the issues surrounding this are all up for discussion such as; her position on sex-education; sex before marriage; abortion; and all other extreme viewpoints Gov. Palin has at best she is in the minority of 30% and in some cases she resides in the 10% minority.

So yes - the daughter is off but the Mother and her positions and actions are fair game.

I agree Kevin. We need to stay on message and on task and on the issues. This whole thing, while unfortunate, seems very odd. I mean the linking of this news to "liberal blogs" right away. For all we ( us liberal bloggers ) know the republican plants that have been visiting this blog to stir the pot could have put this out there, blaming us, after visiting this blog and causing a ruckus. John McCain becoming president (that might be enough),

AND bequeathing his Commander-in-Chief status to a 20-month governor with no absolutely no foreign policy or national-level policy or governing experience.

Who in their right mind would vote for that possibility ?

Another week, another Frank Luntz/AARP focus group of undecided voters--this one in Minneapolis and with some bad news for John McCain: they don't like the choice of Sarah Palin for vice president. Only one person said Palin made him more likely to vote for McCain; about half the 25-member group raised their hands when asked if Palin made them less likely to vote for McCain. They had a negative impression of Palin by a 2-1 margin. Link

I sure hope this trend continues with undecided voters.

I have been listening to Michael Baisden, and he just said there have been some anti war protestors who have been arrested at the RNC convention. He made it sound like there was some major disturbance going on (kind of like what the Repugs were hoping would happen at our convention).

Was just wondering if anyone else had heard. I haven't been watching the RNC convention (just can't bring myself to do it) so I don't know.

Everything has been canceled for today except some "business" that will take place at 4:00. There will be no speakers tonight. Cindy McCain will address delegates and Laura Bush I believe. I heard reports that there was going to be 50,000 anti-war protesters in Minnesota. The police have been arresting some people in their private homes before they even attempted to protest citing they are part of some group and were planning on doing "illegal" things. The convention is supposed to be on its regular schedule starting tomorrow.
