While the "Salute to Courageous Women" was inspiring, Michelle's visit to the
Phillis Wheatly Community Center
in Greenville, SC this afternoon was a heck of a lot of fun. The Wheatly center is a phenomenal place where children of all ages can dance, sing, paint, and play in a variety of after-school and summer programs.
When Michelle arrived, some of Wheatly's best singers welcomed her with a choreographed song about hope that fit right in-line with what the campaign is all about.
After thanking the singers, Ms. Obama had a chance to sit down and talk to with some girls, ages 10-13, that spend time at the center throughout the week and discuss their goals, thoughts about college, and... bullies.
According to her, Michelle didn't have too much of a problem with bullies in school partly because, "[she] was tall and [she] had a big brother."
As Michelle and the girls left the room together to take a tour of the center, one of the girls turned to the future First Lady of the United States and asked the question everyone in the room was dying to know: "Is your hair natural?"
The answer, of course, was, "Yes."
Compelled by the center's dance instructor and some of his students, Michelle joined the class in learning the returned and showed everyone in the room just how good of a dancer she really is. In fact, Michelle was having so much fun she had NPR All Things Considered Edition host
Michele Norris
(left, in the pink jacket), who was following Ms. Obama for the day, join her on the studio floor.
It's been a packed, but fun, day here in the Upstate and rest assured that we'll be following up these "live" happenings with more extensive posts very soon.
