Went to Coors Field on Sunday and saw the Colorado Rockies baseball game. It was fun but it was just a baseball game although my husband thought it was a great stadium. No real convention work accomplished on Sunday but we did get to a few parties. Here's a quick recap of Sunday night's activities: every delegate and their guests were invited to the convention center (which is not the location of the convention -- that is held at the Pepsi Center) where we were treated to New Orleans food and music, Terence Blanchard's band and Randy Neuman performed. Then, thinking we were cool insiders we took a taxi to the Fillmore Auditorium (is there one in every city?) and tried -- but failed to get into the Friends of New Orleans party. Most disappointing. It seems that the two New Orleans events were confusing to everybody -- except those actually cool enough to get inside. Whatevers. But then the night exploded into fun at a Congressional Black Caucus Institute Party. A fantastic band had everybody dancing and drinking. Woke up Monday, went to the Breakfast downstairs in the hotel and heard motivating speeches from Nancy Pelosi and other Members of Congress. Went to the Civic Center Park and saw the most moving exhibit of photographs imprinted on silk hanging inside a tentlike structure which was shaped into classic Islamic architecture. The pictures were all taken within Iran and were truly fantastic. Check out the website: www.picturesofyouIran.org. Then, at exactly 3pm, the Convention was Called to Order by Howard Dean and the show began. What an experience. Not content to merely sit in my seat all night, fellow delegate Uduak Ntuk of Bakersfield and I introduced ourselves to and took photographs with & met Jim Webb, Ed Rendell, Tim Kaine, John Lewis, Capt. Yee (who helped expose Guantanamo travesties), Charles Rangel and many others. I saw Jimmy and Rosalind Carter and wished he had been given a chance to speak. I talked with Jesse Jackson Jr. who remembered me from when we were both delegates to the Model UN in Paris back in the 1980's (late 80's, err, maybe early 90's?) Sam Farr has been very cool and available walking around with a camera recording it for posterity. The highlight was the salute to Ted Kennedy and of course Michelle Obama's speech followed by the future First Family. What a moving experience, people around me were crying -- it was incredible. It took me about an hour to get out of the Convention and return to the hotel in time for Sen. Feinstein's dessert fete. Rode the elevator with Rep. Charles Rangel on New York. My feet were literally killing me as I slowly walked up to my room around 1am. wow. enough for now.
