I posted the following on one of the threads last night after returning home from the rally, and somebody asked me to post it again today, so here you go! BTW, I cast my vote for Senator (aka Next President of the United States) Obama today. What a great feeling! Let's keep working!
Here's one of my experiences from the rally last night:
My husband and I volunteered to help starting at 4pm. We directed people where to go to get into the area that was cordoned off by the secret service, closest to the stage. There were several people in wheelchairs outside the cordoned-off area when we got there, thinking they were as close as they could get. We told them they had to actually go around the block and go through security to enter the stage area. One man was somewhat upset at first. Then when I offered to push his wheelchair around the block to make sure he got in, he replied that it was motorized and wouldn't need the help. He said he got there early so he could get a good place to see. I assured him there was a good place designated for him. He then told me that he had seen his first Commander in Chief, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and had not personally seen another since then. He got a little choked up when he said that he just wanted to see his last Commander in Chief. That's why he was there. He wasn't sure he'd live long enough to see another, and he just wanted to make sure that he got to see his last Commander in Chief. This man was not referring to Senator Obama as a person who had a good chance to be his last Commander in Chief. He referred to him as 'my last Commander in Chief'. Period. That man believed! So many people who are so excited to be truly represented by a person who 'gets it'! Finally! There's HOPE! YES WE CAN!!!
