I have been an employee of three large Health Insurance providers for the last 18 years. I have served various positions within these companies. When I heard Senator McCain's plan to give a $5000 credit to buy your own health insurance I thought he must be kidding. Sen. McCain has always had health insurance coverage provided by the US Gov't. He was the child of a military man, we insured him. He was a military man, we insured him. He became a congressman, we insured him. He has no idea how much health insurance costs. Our oldest child recently graduated from college. On the day of his graduation we could no longer carry him on our family group policy. In the state of NC, for a healthy, non-smoking 21 year old male our cheapest premium was $78.08 per month for medical only. His deductible is $3500. His out of pocket expense is $7000. Now, how much does Sen. McCain think an average family of four would have to pay monthly? How does a tax credit help pay a $500-$600 monthly premium plus out of pocket expenses when most of us are living paycheck to paycheck? That's exactly why so many of us are uninsured. He is so out of touch with the regular people in this country it's laughable. Please, please let someone ask him how much he thinks a family pays for an individual medical policy? I guarantee he would give the patent McCain campaign response, "I'll have to get back to ya on that one".
