I'm looking for singable songs that can be used while we're walking in DC for the Walk for Change (see diversity4obama.org ). I know there's been a lot of songs written about Obama and for the Obama campaign, but most seem heavy in instrumentation and not especially easy for a large crowd who are walking together. Songs like the past protest songs feel right, but most don't have the words to express what we're trying to express here. I may use some of them any way, but I'm looking for suggestions. And please spread the word both about the need for songs & about the Walk4Change in DC on Sept. 13. Thanks!

That sounds great! Thanks! Is that an original tune or is it similar to a tune some people would know? I'm trying to figure out how we'd accomplish singing it with a few thousand people who never heard it before. Can you send me the lyrics? joyce(dot)dowling(at)comcast(d ot)net

Hi John,
Thanks for all those songs! They sound superb with your instrumentation. I'll consider how they'll work in a rally with no accompaniment.

JOyce,
I have a great song. It's very inspiring and easy to sing. The title is "Chasing My Dreams (Until They Do come True)". The song has been used countless times in school programs because of it positive message. It has been extremely well received.
You can listen to this song at:
Link
It will be the song playing the background (once the page has loaded).
You can also here it on our myspace account at:

Good luck

Some of the Songs in particular (Which could be reworked to better suite the occasion) are:
King's Dream Still Lives On:
This very unique creation was inspired after watching a special show on Oprah where it focused on and paid tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King's historic dream. The show provided a brief history of his life and how his voice and actions changed the course of history. It also showed how the dream still lives in each of us and how it has changed all of our lives.
Living Out My Dreams:
An anthem written for students (or anyone for that matter) as a means to instill confidence and help them realize the importance of having dreams. This song has two different arrangements both of which are up-tempo.
Thanks and Good luck
David

Joyce,
I live in Greenbelt. I went to a Sing-a-long Fundraiser last week in Columbia. They passed out a whole song sheet of great, singable songs. Some of them had the lyrics slightly modified.
If you give me your fax number, I can fax you the whole song sheet.

I am a longtime musician/songwriter (www.thederelicks.com) from the midwest. I have adopted a very catchy popular song from the 60's and put some new lyrics to it--to be used as a "street sing-a-long" campaign song for Senator Obama. I am not online much but want to share the song with other Obabma supporters. What do you think I should do? I am a member of ASCAP and have already copyrighted the new lyrics. I wanted to do something to show my support for the campaign. Any feedback is wellcome...TC

Joyce, I think I have the perfect OBAMA RALLY lyric/sing a long song for you. I am awaiting permission to use a well known melody/song from the 1960's---with my new lyrics. I really think it will work "for a crowd". I'll send the lyrics your way as soon as I get the publisher permission. Tim Considine/www.thederelicks.com

A little take off on John McCain's "Bomb Iran":
"John My Man"
Jim Zien / Copyright c. 2008
John, bombed, bombed, bombed when he ran
John, bombed, bombed, bombed when he ran
Oh John my man, fold up your hand
John my man
You had Barcack down in the pollin’
Barcack ‘n Biden reelin’
John my man, you bombed
Bombed when you ran
Hitched up your pants, hoisted up your lance,
Snatched up Sarah P on a glance just for a chance
With Palin’s brand, brand, brand, brand Palin’s brand
To make your stand
You had Barcack down in the hole ‘n
Barcack ‘n Biden kneelin’
John my man, John, John
Bombed when you ran
John, bombed, bombed, bombed when he ran
John, bombed, bombed, bombed when he ran
John my man, lost your last hand
John my man
You had Barcack down in the hold ‘n
Barcack ‘n Biden heelin’
John my man, John, John
Bombed when you ran
Lied to the news
Lied your face blue
Lied like a fool
But you knew you dished doo-doo
John my man, John, John,
Bombed when you ran
Bombed, bombed, bombed,when you ran
You had Barcack down at the goal ‘n
Barcack ‘n Biden sealed in
John my man, John, John
Bombed when you ran
John, bombed, bombed, bombed when he ran
John, bombed, bombed, bombed when he ran
John my man
Made your last stand
John my man
You had Barcack down in the pollin’
Barcack ‘n Biden kneelin’
John my man, John, John,
Bombed when you ran
John my man, John my man,
John my man, John my man,
John my man, John my man,
John my man, John my man,
You had Barcack down in the pollin’
Barcack ‘n Biden kneelin’
John my man, John, John,
John Also Ran.
