Last Sunday the Obama “Campaign for Change” headquarters in Portland held its grand opening and supporters turned out en masse to sign up to volunteer and meet their local staff and fellow Obama supporters.
Oregonians filled several conference tables with freshly prepared dishes for the introductory potluck, and enjoyed conversation with Obama for America and Merkley for U.S. Senate supporters of all stripes. You can see more pictures of the event here.
Multnomah county Field Organizer Erin Devaney spoke first to the crowd, sharing her personal campaign story, and asked everyone to find a few extra hours in their lives between now and November 4th to spend for change -- an hour canvassing , an hour phonebanking , an hour registering voters -- and to inscribe that commitment on yellow notes that were circulated around the room.
Former Oregon governor Barbara Roberts, the special guest of the evening, took the microphone to a resounding ovation. Roberts asked the crowd not to find themselves wishing they could have done more on November 5th.
Barbara Roberts implored supporters and volunteers to give their all in the coming months to assure Barack Obama is elected the next President of the United States.
Reach out and become a part of this historical movement here , and those who have so graciously dedicated their time in the past can help in these final months here . More offices will be opening in towns across across Oregon soon, and dedicated supporters continue to reach out to their communities and organize events through the MyBarackObama tool.
