Last night, I was able to separate myself finally from the negativity that seems to have taken over our band. After days of negative posts, vile posts from some from the other side, and a call for criticism our own campaign managers by our own supporters, I am at peace again. The eclipse watched by so many of us, and the stunning simplistic words of one of our own (Laura) nearly brought me to tears. She helped remind us of the beauty of this world. She reminded us that we are tiny inhabitants of a much larger world, and yet, with this campaign our tiny voices are heard. She helped me find my hope again. There are so many out here with painful stories of discrimination, government abuse, frustrations with insurance companies, employment concerns, and the saddest of all - those who have lost friends and family members to the war in Iraq. Somehow we have to get beyond the headlines and the spinners and the constant barrage of newsy sound bites, and remember why we are here. We have to remember that Obama represents to so many - myself included- the one chance for a change we can be proud of. Life is difficult enough without buying in to the screams of the vultures. I have been so impressed with Obama's handling of personal criticism. He seems to have a strong inner peace about him - a real sense of who he is - a belief that if you ignore the bully on the playground, they will go away. I believe that too. Thank you Laura and all the others that reminded me of the good folks that share Obama's beliefs. Standing outside in the crisp cold air, looking up at our glowing moon, I was again reminded of the beauty of this earth and its inhabitants. I believe - Yes, we can.
