This expressed my feelings so well I chose to put it on my blog so I can share it with others. This came off the Westside Grassroots for Obama and written by Mike Bonin. It is something that I have thought this whole campaign but couldn't find the right words. Thanks, Mike
Dear Friends, Four years ago, I slept in. I rooted for Kerry and I voted for him, but I did not lift a finger to help. I did not dial a phone, knock on a door, or donate a dollar. Not this time. With the economy in the toilet, with our troops at risk in foreign wars, and with our constitution in shreds, there is too much at stake. In this election, I have chosen to be active with the activists. I have taken time off from my job to volunteer full-time. I am doing everything I can to help elect Barack Obama. Will you please join me? Can you please help? There are plenty of opportunities to get involved. No effort is too small:
Call voters in a battleground state. For those of us who live in solidly blue states, the most important thing we can do to influence the election is to call voters in a battleground state. The campaign has asked Southern California to adopt Nevada. There are literally hundreds of phonebanks to Nevada every week. A list of the ones in my congressional district are in this email. If none of them are convenient to you, go to www.My.BarackObama.com, click "Find Events," and you'll get a list of phonebanks in your area. Just a few hours will make a huge difference.
Call potential volunteers. If you're not wild about cold calls to people in a different state, don't worry. We have "warm calls," too. Several times per week, we call local Obama supporters and ask them to help us out with the Nevada calls. You can find those phonebanks on www.My.BarackObama.com.
Help with data entry. If you don't dig the phones, but still want to help, we need plenty of help with data entry. At each phonebank, we make hundreds and often thousands of calls. We need to plenty of people to help enter the results of the calls into the system so we can get our supporters to the polls.
Not wild about going out to a phonebank? You can call from home, as long as you have a computer with an Internet connection. Log onto My.BarackObama.com, click "Contact Voters," answer a few questions, and the system will give you a list of numbers, a script and online reporting form.
Think there will be time to help out later? Think again. In Ohio, people are already voting. In Nevada, early voting starts October 18. Up to a third of the electorate will vote early or with absentee ballots. This election is not happening November 4. It is happening right now. Do you want McCain to be your next President?
Please join me in this campaign to take our country back. You will have fun, and you will be able to look back one day and say you were part of making history. Here's to victory,
