The following is what I originally posted in response to a posting calling for more nuclear power.
____________
A recent Stanford University study proves that if ALL available harvestable wind were tapped into and interconnected... it would provide enough electricity to power 47% of the ENTIRE American demand.
Google "Stanford wind study".
Add to this a massive solar array in the Mojave desert, and we could fuel the rest of America's energy needs.
Better to make up any shortfalls with hydro, bio-fuels, and geothermal than to resort to the exorbitantly costly and filthy nuclear alternative.
Do you really think it's a coincidence that NO ONE wants spent nuclear fuel in their backyards? The stuff stays toxic for THOUSANDS of years... not to mention the regular cost overruns associated with building nuclear power plants.
If we could build the Panama canal and put men on the moon... we can certainly buildout CLEAN energy alternatives such as wind and solar... let's do THAT first and then we'll see how much more energy we REALLY need.

I then received the following self-righteous response to my alternative energy suggestions.

"Again we have an analysis that makes the fatal flaw of assuming we need centralized power producers in remote locations. WHY? What is wrong with dual use of real estate and democratizing energy production. You are buying in to the propaganda of companies like BP, Exxon, Kerr Magee, National grid, and other big energy producers. Don't you think they have a vested interest in keeping you dependent on them? How do you think they will differ in their use of this control from their past behavior. "
______________
If you look at my original comments... nowhere do I suggest handing over the control of alternative energy buildout and revenues to the corporate sector. The ideal arrangement would be a public/private buildout scenario whereby the energy profits be split between that same public/private partnership.
If nothing else, this site has represented a place where people of good faith and cooperation can share the ideas which will help improve America for all Americans.
When individuals instead use this forum to jump to erroneous conclusions and bash fellow bloggers, they do this community a grave disservice. It is in the spirit of fostering cooperation and innovation that I point this out, and it is the reason I am not furthering the insult to my views and to me personally by naming the offensive blogger here.
Let's remember... we suffered for the last eight years under a regime which stifled dissent and played to the lowest common denominator with close-minded bullying and narrowly focused ego-driven echo-chamber non-think. Let's not make the same dismal mistake here.
