We (a group of team leaders and volunteers in York County) decided we needed to stay in touch and brainstorm things we can do locally to improve our community. We wanted to be ready to mobilize volunteers and share information when the national OFA calls on volunteers to help with projects.

We are looking for volunteers to present ideas for projects and to organize projects. The only rule to get your voice heard is to show up. See the extended post for details...

The local steering committee meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month at 7:30pm at the Red Lion B&B, 101 S Franklin St, Red Lion PA 17356. Contact George and 717-332-7429 or george.a.sanders@gmail.com for more information.

Procedures for proposing projects and communicating to volunteer teams (keep it simple and fun for volunteers to launch events):

Volunteer has a project idea
He/She presents it for feedback to the steering committee - if a volunteer has an idea, is willing to spend the time getting it organized with help from other volunteers and will lead the project/event it is approved - "just need to show up to get involved and make your impact".
Volunteer creates a project plan (with help from team leader if needed), gets info to communications team to get other teams/volunteers involved, and works on recruiting volunteers herself/himself.
Communications team (typically the team leaders, volunteer coordinators, and the volunteer with the idea) sends emails, does phone calls, and posts info online while the volunteer with the idea distributes flyers and finds additional volunteers
Volunteer leads the event.
Volunteer presents results back to communication team so all volunteers can hear about what we did.
Communications team sends followup to email list and posts online to share results.
