After Charles met Senator Obama on Sunday before the historic rally in Denver, he said it was one of the most memorable experiences of his life.

That's saying something, as Charles was born in 1922.

He's seen the Great Depression, a world war, served in the Korean War, and has volunteered for campaigns since Franklin D. Roosevelt, but it's the energy of this campaign that has excited this lifelong Democrat more than any others.

He sees similarities between Barack and the last candidate he volunteered for: Bill Clinton.

"I like anyone who's come from a hard life because they understand people that are having a hard life. Barack Obama, like President Clinton, they really understand the people and lives we're going through with."

Charles volunteers in our Boulder office almost every day, greeting people at the door making sure they sign in, and always has a story to tell folks with an open ear.

What a great testament to still be out there with so much enthusiasm and hard work to the end. I head home to Boulder tomorrow to volunteer for the campaign and take up my voter protection position. I hope to see Charles' smiling face.
