I spend a lot of time on the net reading news articles and blogs of all political leanings, and this is the weekend I have swung from cautious optimism to abject depression. The right wing smear machine and corporate-owned media is doing an superb job of convincing voters that McCain/Palin is best for this country.
A recent sampling of comments from bloggers is not encouraging.
I never cease to be amazed at the gullibility and apathy of the average citizen.
I'm afraid that, unless the Obama camp does something drastic and something soon, this election is lost.
My only other hope is that voters will get to see the real Sarah Palin and John McCain before the November election. The neocons are already hiding Palin from media scrutiny, soft-peddling her dismal service record, denying her past racist remarks and dismissing her extreme religious views.
The average American has no idea how profoundly important this election is. Three Supreme Court justice appointments hang in the balance. Our precious civil liberties are at stake. Our very constitution is in danger of being further gutted by right-wing ideology.
When people finally learn they have voted away their own best interests, it will be too late.
I pray I end up being wrong, but right now it doesn't look good for Obama. We'll most likely end up with a Democratic sweep in the House and Senate, but the presidency, in my opinion, is in grave peril.
And yes, I have rage fatigue too. Not just from fighting rabid neocons, but from watching helplessly as naive and willfully ignorant citizens allow themselves to be manipulated by the Big Lie.
