Matching Your Contribution

As many of you are already aware, Barack Obama has announced that he will not be accepting donations from lobbyists and PACs.This courageous move, which many of his opponents are happy about, has one objective: keeping power with the people. When a small segment of society is able to donate funds to a campaign and create a relationship of mutual dependency, the needs of the whole can easily suffer.

We have witnessed how big oil can sit down at the table and dictate to a Presidential administration what policy should look like. While contributions meant to influence decision makers is not illegal, Obama shows greater courage in following his own slef imposed higher law, with the benefit of democracy in mind.

After all, isn't this very quality - the relevance of moral and spiritual imperatives in policy making - the very strength that attracts many to Obama in the first place? It is refreshing to see consistency in this, but also sobering in that there is the real risk of lack of funds. This really is in many ways our campaign and our moral responsibility!If we want to give the Obama campaign power, we must transform the potential energy of our heart and minds, the spirit of our beliefs, into real action by ensuring the funds will be there to promote the ideals and imperatives we so want our President to embody. As you may know, Obama has invited his supporters to consider being a matcher of contributions. At first glance that may be scary. What if someone donates more than you can afford? How will you be able to match it?No worries! You can determine how much you are willing to match and then the Obama campaign will match you up with someone that donated the amount you specified. You will then be put in contact with the person to let them know you matched their donation.

You can also do this with your friends, asking them to contribute and pledging to match their contribution. This shows our commitment and inspires curiosity.

I completely agree. I do see my participation in the campaign as a moral responsibility, and I'm really glad that it's also an enjoyable one. It feels good to contribute, and it feels good to be able to tell people about how this time we don't have to choose the "least bad" candidate. We get the opportunity to choose someone who isn't corrupt, who believes in making America great. And yes, it IS our campaign!

I agree that it is important to make sure that Barack Obama's campaign receives enough funds, and I applaud his courage and integrity in not accepting money from special interest groups.

Unfortunately, I have been unemployed for the better part of the last several months, so I am not in a position to donate ANY funds right now, let alone even consider matching funds.

So my contribution will have to come in the form of "spreading the word" rather than giving money.

And I will certainly get out and vote when Primary time comes along.
