The Bush/McCain foreign policy doctrine is deeply flawed. This is particulary true in the stance taken on the middle east. The basic principal that all countries should be democracies is a flawed principal or at least the method Bush/McCain have tried to implement this change is flawed at the core. Their use of intimidation, high handed diplomacy or my way or the hiway foreign policies has backfired.
In my view this administration believes all you have to do is change the leadership and "government" of the country in question, force free elections and the people will flock to and embrace democracy. I feel they also believe that if force is needed to change the top down leadership, the people will embrace the change and follow whole heartedly to democracy.
Nothing could be further from the truth and in fact, this "flawed democracy doctrine" is not how any democracies ever came to pass. A simple review of exactly how both the USA and Canada became free democracies is confirmation. Democracies happen from the ground up, NOT the top down. Democracy has to be embraced and nutured by a population hungry for true change and freedom of rights. It can't be forced on a population as Bush/McCain believe it can, whether that country is Iraq, Iran, Cuba or China.
Obama has it right, true change happens from the ground up. It starts from the youth, grows into the young, and ultimately into middle age. This Obama movement can bring real change to the world, not only by getting Obama elected, but more by reaching out to the young around the world, communicating with them, understanding their problems and desires and helping them along the way. Become their friends, not their enemies, grow together and solve problems together.
Race, religion, creed and all other differences need to be left in the backwash of the older generation. The problems in the world can not be solved by pointing out the differences, but by understanding common ground, common needs, common problems and together working for solutions.
