I'm so glad that all the wonderful folks who attended the Health Care Reform Kickoff at my house yesterday took the time to attend, to share their personal stories, and take the first step in building support for National Health Care Reform.
I asked my guest to do two things at
www.barackobama.com
1) Declare support for President Obama's 3 key principles for real health care reform at
http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/organizingforhealthcare
2) Post their Health Care story at
http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/healthcarestory
We were able to accomplish the three objectives of the kick off meeting: 1) Practice telling our personal stories - which is our most essential tool we will use as we talk to our friends and neighbors about the urgency of Health Care Reform. 2) Learn President Obama's three key principles for health care reform - reduce costs, guaranteed choice, and affordable care for all. 3) Plan for action - assist in the Blood Drive and Health Fair on Saturday, June 27 from 11:00- 3:00 pm by planning to attend, spreading the word, distributing flyers or even contacting local health care and healthy lifestyle organizations either non-profit or for-profit to see if they will come and man a table or just send literature or give-aways. We began recruiting our neighbors by making phone calls.
In less than 20 minutes, we were able to make 55 phone calls, contacted 8 people, 5 of whom committed to support the three key principles, one who also committed and one who might attend our Blood Drive and Health Fair.
This kickoff meeting was so fun it was like running a mini Camp Obama!
