I won't be able to exhale until 12:01 January 20th, but I am so glad the we have heard the last of Bush's delusional and sociopath(etic) addresses to the nation.
I have heard many pundits, strategists, and analysts describe him as un-reflective, tone death, out of touch, but the reality is that he is more than any of these things. Bush is a classic sociopath. He has lived a pampered life where he has never had to face the consequences of his actions. He always had daddy to come to the rescue. This kind of upbringing does not allow for healthy character development in children.
To the very last minute he was unable to admit any personal fault or mistakes. He shoveled all the blame on Clinton, Saddam Hussein, elite Europeans, anyone else, but him and his administration. He allowed Cheney and Rove to manipulate him because he didn't bother to apply himself to the task of the Presidency. It was just too much work. His Presidency was that of a hapless figurehead. The less he knew the better it was for his image in his own head.
The fact that we have not had another attack on our soil seems a small consolation for what we have lost because of this President.
My prayer is that Barack Obama will not allow the power and the praise of the office to delude him into drifting away from what he know to be right, just, and good for the people of this nation. I believe he plans to do his best, work his hardest, and think through the problems looking for moral and just solutions. I will also pray for those who surround him - that they will be honest, forthright, and smart.
We are on the precipice of peace, possibility, and prosperity, but it will require all of our participation. We, the American people, have a responsibility to stay alert and tuned in. We need to hold the news media, our public servants, and ourselves responsible for the future.
My fellow Americans - let's get to work.
