40 Days of Faith and Family: Marlboro County

Last night we had one of our first stops on the 40 Days of Faith and Family tour. We were in Marlboro County, South Carolina, talking about faith and politics with a packed house at the Bennettsville Municipal Center. It was a phenomenal time!

We kicked off the evening by talking about the disconnect between our personal values and the values of our politics. For some in the room, the status quo of politics was almost too laughable for words - as you'll see in the picture below, a simple, disgruntled "Hmmm!" described it all!

We then moved into a discussion of what it is about our faith that motivates us to work in public life - outside of the four walls of our house of worship. We also talked about how to redefine what it means to be a "values voter" in America. Everyone paired up in groups of two, joining with someone they hadn't met before. This allowed us to form new connections while we explored these critical questions.

Folks are downright hungry for this conversation. At the conclusion of the forum, one of the gentlemen who attended, Mr. Cox from Holly Hill United Methodist Church said, "I'm so glad I came. This reminds me of a new civil rights movement."
