Iwas just watching CNN today when I heard John King, in agreeemnet with Bill Schnider rehearshing that Republican talking-point that "Obama is already measuring drapes in the White House before he is ever elected" which the Main Stream Media (MSM) out of crass mental laziness has internalized and used quite often. If you ever watched Anderson Cooper, you will almost think that he is an extention of the John McCain's campaign. He attributes all the gaffes and serious policy errors we have all now seen to be a daily occurence by John McCain as "McCain being McCain. Yet, these mentally lazy folks at the MSM will pick apart any word that drops from Sen. Obama's mouth and twist them to suit whatever agenda they are out there to progagate.
I have even heard some pundits assert that this election should be "a referendum on Obama" to show why he ought to be a president as if Gorge W Bush has expired or that it was not the Republican Congress and White house who got us into the mess in which we all find ourselves today.
Where I am really worried is that, just like John Kerry hoped that the American voters will undertsand that "swift boat attack" was a hoax, the Obama campaign is once again falling into this trap by not pushing back very forcefully (that is the only language the MSM understands) against these insinautions which they are sipping into the subconscious of many voters, especially, the low-information voters who depend on these one-liners to influence their vote.
The McCain campaign goaded and challenged Sen. Obama to "travel" overseas hoping to make a mince meat out of any mistakes that he might make. Now that Obama did not make any such mistakes, the new catch phrase I am hearing the MSM and the GOP use is "cockiness", "arrogance", "presumptive" and "pride". May be America has had it so bad that their yardstick for measuring self-assuredness is George W Bush and that anyone who is not of George Bush's low level of intelligence and carriage is "cocky". Alternatively, they cannot "farthom" how a black man can show such self discipline and confidence and there lies that error of race-jaundiced judgement on the part of ABC, CNN, Fox news and some folks on MSNBC like Joe Scarborough, Pat Buchanan and Andrea Mitchel (whose husband, Alan Greenspan chickened out and allowed Bush to run our economy aground when it mattered most)
The Obama campaign are not making effective use of surrogates pushing back on some of the misconceptions and outright overlooking of all the faults of John McCain while focusing like a razor on Barack Obama's statements and actions. A lot of folks who support and donate money here for Barack Obama has expressed disappointment over how the Obama campaign is handling these issues. We thought that this pacifist attitude about pushing back on false statements about a political opponent would have ended in the Democratic primaries but we can see that it still persists. Do not hope that voters will "understand" but convince them that these statements by the GOP and MSM are baseless. It can be effectively be done by surrogates and not the candidate itself. This campaign is becoming too docile for my concern.
