Our volunteer group - California's CD32, did a second community service - distributing food for the holidays. It was a lot of fun and we got a lot of visibility for Obama.
Several of the other volunteers were Obama supporters. They were thrilled to get pins. Sister Marion (wearing the ears in the picture) said she had spent most of her life working in Africa and 'of course she was an Obama supporter'.
Ralph (wearing his 'Obama is America' was the gatekeeper and spoke with just about everyone who came in (he let people in in groups of 10 families at a time). 1200 families recieved packages, and there was a santa giving presents, books and drawings for other prizes.
Each family also got a labelled black toy bag, that had presents for each specific child in the family, something they had asked for.
t was a good day that reminded us all that we are part of a big community, and some of our members need help.
We're going to do events like this every year, as a way of keeping in touch with all the people we've been working with on the Obama campaign.
The Obama campaign is about more than politics. Its about community.
