Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
I know there are many people who have had it up to here with the words "hope" and "change." Both these words have lost their meaning to a large segment of the population who feel the words have been over-played, like a song on the radio you just can't hear one more time. Perhaps we need to restate ourselves. By electing Barack Obama, we anticipate this will affect our behaviors, and thus our country's results, for we would be insane to elect John McCain and expect anything different than what we have and where we are today.
However…
When talking about changing our behaviors as a country and as individual citizens in order to get better results for our country, it is only natural to not want to rid ourselves of what is good with our country and for our people. Stepping into the shoes of those who are wary of change, I can see why they may not have such a positive feeling about phrases such as "turning the page." Think of it as a coloring book page, where millions of people have added their stroke of color to the scene. Maybe to some, turning the page means a new, white sheet of paper where we have to start all over again. That would be scary to me, too. With a little bit of softening and clarifying language, how easy it would be to reassure the American people that all won't be lost as we move into a new, positive direction. Perhaps devoting some time talking about the good aspects of America that will be fiercely protected during a presidency of new ideas and ways of solving problems would put a lot of fears to rest. And this could all be done without using the words "hope" or "change" even once.
Just a thought to consider.
