THE PAINFULLY CLEAR FAILURE OF SEWELL
What is “painfully clear” ( a phrase that Mr. Sewell uses ad nausea) is that Mr Sewell did not do his homework, and that in fact it is his article which does not “stand up to scrutiny” What is also painfully clear was how sophomoric this article was in many of it’s most basic statement. Does Mr. Sewell not realize we fact check in this day and age?
Mr Sewell claims (and I quote) “His voting record in the U.S. Senate is the furthest left of any Senator.” In fact the only difference between Obama’s voting record in the senate, and Clinton’s -between Obama’s record and many other senators, for that matter is ONE VOTE (That’s right count them -- 1 vote!) It was a vote on January 18, 2007 “Vote 19, S1” The bill was to show more transparency in earmarks, Obama joined some republican senators in wanting a website or another form of public disclosure on which senators voted show which earmarks benefited which senator’s state etc. This is obviously not a LIBERAL bill but rather an HONESTY bill. A conservative think tank spuriously labeled Obama’s vote on this bill as “Liberal” hence Sewell’s regurgitating another poorly researched conservative talking point.
Regarding Wright and Sewell’s ad hominum arguments, In fact Wright was quoting Ambassador Peck when he said “Chicken’s are coming home to roost” and why does Wright not get the same pass that Falwell did when he said that 9/11 was divine retribution for homosexuals and feminists, or the same pass that Roberstosn got when he prayed for a supreme court justice to die, ore when he called for chavez to be assassinated?
In fact Sewell doesn’t tell us anything that we haven’t already heard from other weak minded conservatives who don’t really do their homework. But Sewell is a veteran of the Ivy League? Have the standards gone down? Anybody can do the homework into Obama’s voting record and Roberston’s comments. If getting a job writing for RCP is that easy. I would like to know where to apply. Apparently I don;t have to research the article or fact check my work or even make logical statements, I can just wing it...Just like Sewell did
