The Urban Progressive Foundation (TUPF) is launching a national campaign to have Congress - Push the February 17th, 2009 analog shut off date back for 6 to 12 months (www.pushthedateback.org). There are over 21 million Americans currently, who risk having their TVs go dark; most are Americans without a voice in the matter.
A disproportionate number are elderly, minorities, disable and rural. Our 501c3 nonprofit is speaking for the voice-less. This campaign has a short window of time to garner results and one of my twitter friends- Shireen Mitchell (digitalsista) recommended your organization to aid this critical and time sensitive issue.
Currently, TUPF is on a mission to assist the underserved communities (i.e. elderly, minorities, disable and rural) to become connected during the Transition to Digital Television national switchover. Recently TUPF sponsored a Press Conference Panel/Forum at the National Press Club Topic: Crisis Management for Underserved Communities, Impacted by the DTV Transition. We are a 501 c 3, with no funding but great passion. DeeNice Rhodes, executive director has done workshops, educational trainings, and hands-on events to help these "underserved, yet well deserved" get digitally connected. Through "The Urban Progressive Foundation" these grassroots efforts are helping to train, educate, assist and connect our communities to Transition to Digital Television before and after the Feb. 17 2009.
