Corporate Media
The Beatles? The Stones? U2? He's the drummer, right? What, you heard he was the keyboardist? I thought he was just the lead singer. Boy, it must costs hundreds to get into one of his concerts.
Since the announcement yesterday that Senator Barack Obama will accept the Democratic Presidential nomination at Invesco Field in Denver, the National Enquirer, er, corporate media has started once again with their smarmy "rock star" references for the good Senator. Is that little green-eyed monster rearing its ugly head perhaps?
Barack Obama is NO ROCK STAR! He is an incredibly intelligent, empathetic, honest young man who wants to serve his country and his fellow man. He has appealed to the "better angels of our nature" and has treated us with respect by not campaigning in soundbites and insulting our intelligence. The corporate media cannot or will not understand this. See, when someone actually listens to us and then tells us the truth about the issues, problems, etc., the American people seem to be able to accept that just fine and ask what they need to do to make it happen. Corporate media does not like that. They want to be able to tell us what to think so that we will just mindlessly mimic their talking points and then buy the products and services they are hocking through the handful of their freaking commercial sponsors (Big Oil, Big Pharma, Insurance/Financial Svcs, etc.)
I love music as much as the next person. In fact, I've been to my share of rock concerts over the years. No matter how good the band or the concert was, when it was over there would be a few lasting memories but for the most part, nothing special. Just another fun night out! But after listening to one of Senator Obama's speeches I am inspired, motivated and jump into action with blogging, canvassing, phone banking, etc.
If a music reference must be used as an analogy for Barack Obama then I would suggest the position of Conductor or Maestro. This country is a tremendously diverse group with lots of different "styles" that need to be melded into one harmonious tune. So let us all get ready for the "Concerto for Change", performed by the American People Orchestra, led by Maestro Obama!
Bravo, Bravo, Encore, Encore!
