Why would he choose her? She brings nothing to the table. She spent the past months trashing him. He needs to choose who he wants, someone who has supported him. If she got VP, she would spend the first four years with her plan to run against him when the first term ends.

I agree, personally, I'd hate to see HRC on the ticket as VP:
1) She'd constantly be grand-standing and stabbing him in the back
2) Do we REALLY want her a "heart-beat" away from the Presidency???
3) Because of #2 above, some more paranoid than I (and that's hard) have suggested that Barack might put his life in danger by having HRC as VP - some crazed HRC zealot or otherwise might take it upon themselves to "re-arrange" the White House
BUT:
If she's really bargaining on a "stab Obama in 2008 and run for Prez in 2012" strategy, there's something to be said for having her on the ticket to avoid her sinking Barack's ship with "faint praise" and lukewarm campaigning. ("To the best of my knowledge, Barack would be a good president...")
A lot of the pundits last night were saying that she'd ruin her political career if she pursued the 2012 strategy, but I fear otherwise. Americans' and pundits' memories are all VERY short!!

This strand has been inactive for over a month...but here goes.
I think that there is positive that could come from Hillary being on the ticket: it would unify the Democratic Party. One would be hard pressed to prove otherwise.
However, I do think it would a) lose him the presidency as she is very divisive for conservatives (why, I have no real idea--she's far more moderate than given credit) and b)even if that ticket was a winning one it would still fragment the country when we have a golden opportunity to come back together.
Mr. Obama has the best chance of reuniting this country since Newt Gingrich intentionally fragmented it in the 1980's. He should let nothing, including the incredibly power hungry Clintons, who don't appear to truly care about America even in lip service, get in between him and that.
Then again, she'd also bring a lot of clout oversees--they LOVE Billy over there (wherever that is) and would embrace her. Indeed, I think the best place for Hillary and Billy is in the administration in a lower profile role (Cabinent maybe?). She will not, under any circumstances (with the exception of Obama being a disaster even greater than W, which is far from likely) run in 2012 unless she does it as an Independent. Remember, Mr. Obama would be the top official in the party--he could boot her rear end out if necessary. HRC has no chance as an Independent in a general election. And frankly, her actions this campaign towards the end suggest the desperation of a sixty year old who sees her window of opportunity closing.

Oh, I wish I could moderate my comment. I said the Clintons don't care about the country. That's unwise. I think that they did--very much so. But I think she lost sight of that when she lost sight of the Presidency...or maybe when she set her eyes on it. I was willing to vote for her months ago, but as the campaign wore on and she took cheap shot after cheap shot at him, suggested the silly gas tax break, the line about doing more for the Democrats than any one, the thing about him not being able to win because he was black, and generally looked like she would let nothing--not even the voters (Hillary folks, she only wins the popular vote if you don't count the cacuses in FIVE states, states he won I believe, so the popular vote line is pathetic and deceptive)--come between her and her promised position of power. She really disappointed me the last two months. I would have helped her or Barak Obama campaign several months ago, but no more.
Honestly folks, she was an amazing woman, she's a good Senator and has done good for the country. She has good ideas, when not running her mouth trying to win an election she already lost, and deserves respect for who she is and pity for the ways she disgraced herself and betrayed the ideals that got her into politics so long ago. Letting power delude you is no new sin, and I daresay even Mr. Obama is tempted by it. Let us pray he takes a lesson from the fall of the Clintons and "Still President" Bush (whom I never voted for--FYI--goes without saying, huh?) that power corrupts...etc. And if ever a Hillary person reads this, please think about it, k? In the end, she was barely the woman who started the campaign and a shadow of the woman who started off in politics in the 1960s. All you have to do is look at the speeches. Honest. And Clinton Haters, show some respect, she's out, she's an amazing woman deserves credit for that, even if you can't stand her.

I think Jimmy Carter summed it up best: Inviting Hillary to join the Democratic ticket would be the worst mistake Obama could make. He could make better use of her talents with a cabinet position, perhaps, or on an special task force. I agree with Phillip's comments about Hillary; she has many admirable qualities, and there's no doubt she's a tireless worker for causes she believes in. Obama could certainly use her--but not as vice president.
