Palin's pregnant child proves abstinence education works!

If keeping our girls pregnant and our teens covered in genital warts and taking Valtrex herpes treatment everyday for life is your goal.

The press kept bringing up Chelsea Clinton's fictional pregnancy and wondering how they (the press) would've handled her fictional pregnancy.

Chelsea Clinton's mother and father educated her on safe sex and proper condom use and it's silly to talk about her fictional situation, when a real pregnant teen and her careless parents attempt to move into the Whitehouse.

While using a condom isn't 100% effective, having sex without any protection or education increases the chances of pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease exponentially.

I know this blog is ugly, but sometimes the truth is ugly.

Abstenence is a GREAT educational tool and the only way proven 100% effective in preventing unwanted pregnancy and venereal disease..(Excepting of course your a woman who has been raped, and if you live in South Dakota good luck on getting an abortion..grrrrrr)
The problem here is asking teens not to experiment with sex is like asking a lion to not to eat meat...Sure a FEW kids will, but for the rest of them, training on how to PROPERLY use a condom will reduce unwanted pregnancies AND VD. To assume that simply eductaing the public to abtain from sex before marriage is hopelessly unrealistic!
I personally hope that this issue goes on for perhaps another week, then stops. We have important issues to discuss, and yes, important attacks to make against the credibility of McCain/Palin and republicans in general...While it was Palin's unrealistic (AND rather judegmental) views on the topic of sex ed and her teenage daughters subsequent pregnancy that initiated this media frenzy, I see no reason to continue bashing her over this, out of respect for her daughter who is undoubtedly going through a rough enough time without watching her mother being attacked on this issue..
In any case if one thing has been gained here, it will be (yet another) reason to be rid of "abstinence only" education and to be able to move on to actual sex education, which will not only save lives by having less HIV patients, but will also save so many children from being born into an uncertain future...

I hope this lesson goes on for more than two weeks. Not that I wish any embarassment or harm to the daughter. She is to be pitied. If she had been taught contraception by her mother and not relied upon the widely discredited absinence only program, this would not have been as likely to occur. It is ignorant and irresponsible for Palin to promote this point of view.

Teenage pregnancy is a very serious problem in many areas of the country, especially Alaska. Unwed mothers are a large percentage of those below the poverty level and on public assistance. And, consider the children raised in poverty by unwed mothers. What kind of future do most of them have? Children of single mothers, especially those with no support system are likely to be poorly educated, more likely to have drug or alcohol abuse problems and to be invlolved in criminal activities. I think it is a poor example for a potential Vice President to set.

What is as disturbing is the potential for the spread of sexually transmitted disease. Failure to practice safe sex is potentially deadly. Fortunately for Palin's daughter, she only got pregnent.
