Cohen is a brilliant journalist. I can see his preference for the substance of the French visit vs. the emotion of the Berlin one, but he is (a) not really catching the distinction between the two kinds of visits, and (b) minimizing the importance of Barack's deep historical knowledge GIVEN PRECISELY the fact that he--like many americans--has not himself lived these things.

And he's a little wrong on that latter--I'm two years younger than Barack, and I have PLENTY of cold-war memory and experience to draw on.

I agree completely. And Frankly Obama's superb and on par performances are far better than McCain who has nothing to show for his lack of effort. Obama is willing to learn and willing to listen. That and judgement are the key to reform.
