Over the past 21 months, millions of individuals have used My.BarackObama to organize their local communities on behalf of Barack Obama. The scale and size of this community and its work is unprecedented. Individuals in all 50 states have created more than 35,000 local organizing groups, hosted over 200,000 events, and made millions upon millions of calls to neighbors about this campaign. There can be no question that these local, grassroots organizations played a critical role in Tuesday's victory.
What has made My.BarackObama unique hasn't been the technology itself, but the people who used the online tools to coordinate offline action. My.BarackObama has always been focused on using online tools to make real-world connections between people who are hungry to change our politics in this country.
And the site isn't going anywhere. The online tools in My.BarackObama will live on. Barack Obama supporters will continue to use the tools to collaborate and interact. Our victory on Tuesday night has opened the door to change, but it's up to all of us to seize this opportunity to bring it about.
In the coming days and weeks, there will be a great deal more information about where this community will head. For the moment, let's celebrate this victory and know that the community we've built together is just the beginning.

Oh Boy! This is great news. There's going to be some hard times before things improve. Barack warned us of this. People are out of work. Food Banks are low. We need to ALL take over Barack's old job of being community organizers so we can all get through the hard times. This site can be a real tool to do that.
Thank you President Obama for thinking ahead, as usual!

One more refreshing change: For the first time in 10-12 years we won't need to feel ashamed of, or embarassed for, the President!
My daughter joined in the celebrations in DC Tuesday night. She told me her only regret was that she hadn't been able to do more for the campaign. Then she said she watched Obama's speech again & listened to his message. She went right out & volunteered for the Red Cross & signed up for the Big Brother Big Sister program. As she put it:
"Because that is what he's asking us to do!"
Imagine if even half the people who voted for him did something similar . . .

I am so very glad this site will remain and hope to begin work "from the bottom up" to keep Barack aware of our interests.
In this thread is mentioned the "rich" in the White House. Understandable after 40 years of unbridled corruption and greed in our capitol building.
However, we know a true Hope when we see it and I, for one, have Faith that Barack will fulfill his promises so long as we, at the bottom, demand fulfillment from the local up.
Loveya,

I am hoping that someone can get this message to Barack...
I was a Republican until this election but my husband is a Democrate. We are expecting a litter of puppies from our Cocker Spaniel around Thanksgiving. Some people refer to these dogs as Specialty Dogs - others because they are mixed my say they are muts.
These dogs were born and raised from dogs here in Illinois, they are bi-part, but most of all I will let your daughters have the pick of the litter.
They are shedless, hypoallergenic, and are superior intelligence, biddable temperament. They look like Benji from TV....
As I watched today, I saw you wanted a dog that was mixed, hyprallergenic, but ours do not come from a shelter, they come from a loveable home and would love to come to your home.
They bring the best into their lives from both worlds - The Cocker and the Poodle. They have unparalleled affection for people. They are loyal, open , and friendly. They are most receptive to young people and are tolerant of children's clumsy handling. They are eager to please and eaily trained. They are have sound dispositions and remain vigorous and active for most of their lives.
If you are on Barack's team to read these blogs, please get this message to him, before he picks a puppy. I will get him and his family all of the information they may want to research these breeds.
Brandi and Buddy will most likely produce beautiful Chocolate Brown puppies just as we have with our Muffin. But, who knows what other shades will be born.
Thank you,
Tammy Smith

I highly recommend a miniature Poodle. Poodles have fur and not hair and, therefore, they make the perfect pet for asthma suffers because they do not shed or had dander. I looked for a hypoallergenic dog for my son and a miniature poodle was recommended. Poodles are smart, protective, and make one of the best pets you will ever own. Best of all, just play with the poodle and it gets all of the exercise it needs because it is a small dog. My son has asthma and is not affected by fur.

Yes, this must be so hard for him. it's better to get closure early I suspect, so that the control needed to manage the unvoiced sadness doesn't play games with his mind and fatigue levels.
It's much harder to deal with close death than we ourselves even realize during the initial shock and mourning period. And there is always shock, even when we know it's coming.
Great sympathy and congratulations to President Elect Obama :) - We love you!

I really want us to win the GA seat, but I feel this will really be all about turnout...
The GOP guy got 49.9%....the DEM guy 47%.....the 3rd party guy 3%....
Well, all the votes for the third party guy, the libertarian are going to go to the GOP candidate...the third party guy is a white supremecist and is open about these views and I doubt he gets many votes from Democrats, especially as half the dems that voted on Nov 4th were African American...Hopefully these guys will be so upset there guy lost they will just stay home instead of voting GOP....
The fact we mobilized so strong in GA for the early vote shows we can mobilize for this special election..
Winning the GA seat will bring us to 58 seats....
That means if we somehow can find a way to win MN (we are down 200 votes in the state in the senate race) we will have an opportunity to have 60 seats in the Senate if we win the AK special election.....
We still have a chance of getting 60 seats in the Senate, and with a few races undecided in the house 59-60% of the House.......
Great work calling GA...to win this it is all about turnout as voters will likely just vote how they did November 4th...

Treasury will probably be Barack's first Cabinet appointment. I think it is essential that this be a no-brainer with no risk of escalating into a divisive confirmation battle. We can all remember the failed Clinton efforts. I strongly favor the appointment of Paul Volcker for a period of two years max. Volcker, at 81, is able to take on the task and has already steered the country through another financial crisis. He commands respect. He is a non-Greenspan. He can press the also-rans into service if it makes sense. And his appointment would free Barack from the onus of having to hitch his wagon to a star that might fall.

Hi Barrack !
I just wanted to say that I think it's great that you plan on adopting a dog from the pound. These poor babies are gassed/shot/burned to death every 3 days in pounds all across the country.
Please make animal rights and law relating to their care and welfare a top priority. The last administration did not care about animals and they have suffered horribly because of it.
As far as a name for your new family member...I think the girls should be in charge of giving her/him a name. I know they would do a great job and this puppy will be a life-long friend and loving family member for a long-long time.
I know people will be pulling you in every direction possible, trying to get you to listen to their causes, and of course- that's what you are there for, but please try to remember the animals when you get into office. They don't have a voice, and they don't have rights, so please.....please, ....be their voice.
Your are a wonderful man, with a great big heart. I am very proud of you for all the wonderful things that you have accomplished and for all the things you will accomplish in the future. Keep up the great work !
God Bless you and your family.
P.S. Stop by one of your local pounds unannounced and see how the conditions that these animals have to live in for their last days on earth.

First of all, we thank God. Secondly it has been and honor to have worked with the Obama/Biden campaign-an awesome experience at age 56.
Now that you will become President the view by some is that you will only serve 4 years and be the "cleanup" guy. I disagree with that claim and rebuke it in God's holy name.
It will be a long journey for you and Vice President elect Biden. They will pick and pull at every turn even copy and divise a campaign similiar to the one you have managed not run.
Do not be fooled. Racism and greed still breed.
President Elect Obama you cannot make promises or charge ahead--You must take your time; be decisive and "stick to your guns".
You both have made statements in the campaign and not all will be accomplished the way you wanted them too. Bush and especially Chaney have made sure they left dung behind. They smile in your face but, the plot thickens. As you can see the Republican party rallying with the Govenors plotting how they will win in 2012. They now think they have your style. I do not think so because you style belongs to God.
Quickly announce you cabinet. Do not bailout so quickly. Speak with other Nations but, make no promises. Protect your families. Do not joke or be so open. They chew on every word. Emanual very good choice. Thumbs up on that. Robert and Caroline Kennendy good choices. Kerry very good State Secretary choice. Amy Carter, Senator from Hawaii--all good choices. The main person to put in NOW-Treasury and Budget people.
I am not an expert but I use the wisdom of God.
It will be a rocky road ahead. The economy is in danger because of "stupid and reckless methods".
No more bailouts. That is a setup for failure.
These people have to learn like the general public how to manage their own finances. Former President Clinton would be a good advisor or good person to put on the task of the economy.
The Republicans are "bad mouthing you early" to bring you both down.

We really are family. We are all descendents of Seth meaning Noah since we are after the flood. Noah had 3 sons (Shem, Ham, and Japheth). There is only one-tenth of a difference between all of us. The family of man has just drifted apart toward man's inhumanity to man. I hope this is a signal that we are drifting back toward "love thy neighbor as thyself".

Blame it on Canada for time zones - Sir Sanford Fleming created the notion of Standard Time to get railway stations in sync.
Link
There is a US movement to abolish Daylight Savings time and create two times zones - could easily be extended north to Canada. check the link - they are organized and getting people to communicate with Congress - this would be the perfect time to get involved.

All of us will have to remain vigilant in keeping members of congress on their toes and responsive to the people and not to special interest groups-and that includes all of them-Democrats and Republicans alike. Thank goodness Barack did not accept traditional, public financing. It was the smartest thing he did for his campaign.

Dear Mister President-Elect:
Congratulations on your victory. I supported you financially ... and I literally prayed for your victory. With that said, I saw your press conference today and I don't mean to be harsh or anything like that. But about your gaffes during your first press conference. I don't want to make more of it than it is - but you were so disciplined during your two year campaign, this is NOT the time to let down your guard. Please just be yourself. Leave the jokes to Leno and Letterman. With the state the nation and the world is in - there is really nothing to joke about. Why do I say this? Well, see what happened to McCain, Giuliani and Palin? The media built them up only to take them down. And no offense - but that will go DOUBLE for you. I love you and everything you represent - but don't ever EVER forget - the media is NOT your friend. History clearly demonstrates that the American mass media HATES her presidents - especially the post Kennedy media. JFK was the last president they blindly worshiped and adored. Remember what happened to Johnson - after his stunning landslide victory and his Great Society. When the media finished with him, he couldn't even run for reelection. Remember Nixon - Remember the 'clumsy' Ford -- and Jimmy Carter - they pumped him up as a nice guy from the south - and now - more than a generation later - even you couldn't campaign with him after the media's vicious assault. The press sliced and diced ronald reagan - bush sr. and bill and monica was almost a sport for them. so please - don't get it twisted - the media is your enemy Mister President. Don't try to make them laugh - don't think they are your 'base' - as mccain infamously did - just go about the nation's business. We may have been ones we were waiting for - but you are the one who will get us there. God Bless You and please know that we are praying for your success for the next EIGHT years. Godspeed.

I agree. I saw the conference live and thought it was let down when this happened. The mutt referenced was another unneeded comment.
The President-elect is one of the most disciplined communicators I have ever witnessed. I am sure he self-corrected pretty fast.
The President-elect has extraordinary talents and will get us where we need to go, but in terms of wit, he is no Jack Kennedy or Ronald Reagan, he is simply Barrack Obama and that is why we elected him.

Other than the "seance" remark, which he has apologized for, IMHO I thought his other remarks were quite funny... especially the "Mutt like me" remark.
Not sure what all the fuss is about. As he said many times... he is not a perfect person, and he will not be a perfect president, but we need to let him be him. I actually wish he would lighten up a little more often in public and like the fact he did so today.
He can never make everyone happy all the time, no matter what he does. We need to focus more on what he is doing regarding policies.

I concur with "Excited for Obama" I had the same feeling about the press conference. Just be yourself, Mr. President elect. The media wants you to be all things to all people and that will destroy you and your goals. We voted for you because you were honest and consistent. Do what you beliebe is right and let the media say what it wants, which is controversy.

I even wondered if I would miss the campaign (one of the best the USA has EVER seen). THen, I thought about all of us who have been on this site for so long. I realized something....we are really family, and if I go away for years, my family is still my family. It is something that lasts forever. I am so very glad that the site will march on! Alright Family!!!

GREAT NEWS THIS STAYS OPEN. Now hear this: It is now being reported in the press that President-Elect Obama is "managing expectations". In other words, he is attempting to make people lower their expectations - based on his campaign promises - in order not to be too disappointed by what he can actually do.
Well, my group has SOLUTIONS which, if applied, will enable him to embrace HIGH expectations and perform BEYOND those expectations.
The solutions are described at
Link
The support family here can do wonders working with those peaceful solutions. The lives of the individual members will improve DRAMATICALLY, and the new President's campaign promises will be successfully fulfilled.

Because only successful democracy in Ukraine to undergo drastic, great change Russian regime. That is why first formidable minimum task to strengthening and consolidation democracy in Ukraine. Russia now control and will try control oil-gas transit and do not permit to west in it and to turn on gas and oil of Central Asia on Russia territory. That is why to solve it do not need any radar and rocket (ballistic missile) in Czech and Poland. Why use more US money and resources for it when here financial crisis. These money need use for open economy in world - it is base of democracy system in world and usa. Big rocket, ballistic missile do not true power against Russia, one easy way is only to develop democracy in Ukraine and around Russia (Caucasus, Central Asia - here very easy way to begin to create democracy -it is development type for Muslim countries as Iran, Afghanistan, Irak or Egypt )

This web site, along with many others, has changed our democracy. I feel more impowered and that the voices of the common people has been heard during this long election process. We eliminated the national media filter to help shape the issues and support for Obama.
If we continue to voice our thoughts and ideas on this site, the Obama team and congress will listen. I have read so many bright thoughts on this site and have learned so much. I have unlimited hope that our country will change direction and rise again.

This past Tuesday was just the end of phase 2. We need to keep this and various other blogsites active. The GOTV phase is also over but the rest of our work must continue. The ISSUES column above will need to be implemented.
He will need us.
REASONS:
The GOP/Republicans are already meeting to discuss the midterm elections. They are already talking about the 2012 Iowa caucus.
As someone who was aware of the Clinton presidency, the special interest never rested. They ran issue ads. They ran anti-healthcare ads against Hillary Clinton when she was in charge of that during the 1990's. We will need to respond.
Republican Newt Gingrich and congress came up with their 'CONTRACT WITH(ON) AMERICA'. Many of us viewed it as gimmick which was sold to the masses. Voters bought their nonsense. Hence the GOP/Republican dark ages(era of fiscal irresponsibility) lasted until 2006.
This site and other blogs can be used to counterspin FOX/ Limbaugh/Hannity/Beck and the many other far far wingnut talk radio. Right-wing talk radio shows outnumber Democrats.
We need to keep our voters/volunteers engaged. Some of these sites could be used for a number of other purpose until the midterm election.
We need to keep up with donations. Barack Obama wll need to cut an 'issues ad' just like he did during the election.
Special interest and the GOP are not going away. Neither should we.
We need to give high ratings to MSNBC shows like KO or Maddow. They are the only Dem-friendly pundit shows out there. Ratings usually keeps a show on the air.
This will be a never ending struggle for years.

You are so right about Limbaugh. I could not believe that he called the president-elect a "Chicago thug" after the announcement of Rohm Emmanual as Chief of Staff. Limbaugh is is the best tradition of hate-mongering; any old style KKK person would know him for who he is.
I intend to get as many of my students involved in this blog so that they will remain vigilant in the days ahead. Also, we have to know that success breeds imitation. I just saw on TV that the Repubs are going to do the same thing that we are doing now. They intend to develop a 5 million strong following using our type of technology. We have a lot of work to do.

For too long, *our* airwaves have been monopolized by the likes of Limbaugh and his ilk.
I would be willing to work with anyone here to petition the revival of the Fairness Doctrine so the American public can hear myriad views other than the propaganda from the right.
How about it?

I would have to respectfully disagree with you about the 'Faireness' Doctrine. I beleive that this doctrine would impose too much of a burden on the broadcasting channels. They would have an affirmative obligation to review all of their programming notify any party that has been attacked and allow them comparable air space. In the law, ommissions of behavior are rarely criminalized and with good reason. I believe democracy is about choice and putting your confidence in the electorate. People choose to watch Fox for a reason and the resurfacing of this doctrine will not change that.

For me, it's to HQ only to remove a troll's post or profile, after examination. Nothing should be automatic. Sometimes people call other trolls and just make a mistake ! For example, because they don't follow correctly the messages lines (the indents). It happened to very good people here !!!

Noooo, I mean to individually block them! I've seen it on other blogs. If I choose not to read posts by certain people then I can add or remove them to my list as I choose... and I can either see them or not, see? And as far as a block, I meant that it would work pretty much like RID does now. I was just offering an idea so that I personally won't have to scroll through trash that sometimes seems to take forever to get removed now.

I agree with the idea of being able to individually block the trolls. Although the suggestion of making the blog self policing by 'voting' to block a troll, that can possibly be abused i.e. trolls trying to block our posts. Maybe requiring a profile and earning a minimum number of points before being able to vote to block another poster. Any thing we can do to reduce the staff workload would be good.
Although it smacks of censorship, perhaps a filter that automatically replaces certain bad words with #@$% might be useful.
Another feature I would like to see is agree/disagree buttons for each comment similar to the thumbs up/down on DailyKos and YouTube. Good ideas should be voted up where they can be reviewed by the campaign staff. Also you could filter for all comments rated 10 or more to quickly scan those others consider important. Sort of like a built-in Digg.

It felt like New Years Eve, except I was a little nervous at the beginning of the election results.
It is so gratifying to know that the Bush administration is gone soon and that we all accomplished something that seemed so far fetched when this entire campaign started out. I think it gives us all that feeling that anything is possible. Yes we did it.

I was worried this would go away. TO me, there's more network here than on many commercial social networks. This network can be used to produce change and to support all Barack's initiatives. We can pressure our Congresspeople, our Federal agencies, and so forth. We are like an army that now has a general.

Mine has been falling a point each day since the election. I am now at a 4! Just funny that is all!
I don't think any of us are ready to give up this blog just yet. We may wean ourselves off, but I can see giving it up cold!
As for the GOP plotting: How interesting it is that this party has to meet to plan to take back power. Maybe they should just listen to the people, assess their needs, and represent them honestly. NAAAWWWWWW!
The polls showed that people weren't interested in slime and hate. They kept on sliming and hating. People wanted leaders they could trust and depend on. They picked Palin to be VP. Do you really need a meeting to figure that out?

Have you seen the Obama Store? It's nearly cleaned out. I'm just glad I ordered the things I really wanted before Barack won. Like the YES WE CAN CD. I absolutely love it!
To remember this moment for years to come, I plan on doing a scrapbook. I have collected many things including magazines, volunteer badges, bumper stickers, newspapers from 11/4, letters to the editor I wrote, photos of an event, a letter from a community resident in response to one of my letters, etc.
I am so proud of what we have accomplished together. I am deeply filled with joy of our future under a Barack Obama Presidency.
This campaign has forever changed my life. I have never felt more hopeful for our future.
"Thanks Chris for the update. I look forward to heading to a new place together, so we can help Barack accomplish great things for our lives, country and world."

Hi Donna!
I am a scrapbooker and so I will be doing one too, and maybe some kind of framed display for things that can't go in the album. I have kept all kinds of stuff--yard sign, rally sign, magazines, newspapers, photos from when Michelle spoke here in Spokane and I took my son with me to see her, buttons including my "I am an Obama Precinct Captain one", bumper stickers (which I put on magnet backing so I could have them on my car during the election year but then keep them afterwards), etc. Oh and tshirts...three for me, one for my son. I'm not sure how I will display everything but I know I will find a way. I want to always remember how it felt to be part of this movement for change!!

Donna-
I am going to do a scrapbook too, but when I look at my large plastic tub of articles I ran off, magazine articles, newspaper photos and articles, personal blog entried, and assorted items I wonder if they would even fit in several scrapbooks.
I usually make a scrapbook of my year's trip abroad. I haven't gone on a trip since the Primary Campaign and have contributed my trip money and whatever I could scrape up to help the campaign so it is only fitting that two years of my life and my future hopes deserve a commemorization in the form of a scrapbook. I have scheduled a trip to DC in January to visit my daughter for two weeks with hopes of seeing the Inaugeration, but will probably just be in a huge crowd somewhere. I am looking forward to the opportunity to be there at that important moment.

The "YES WE CAN" CD was a life-saver to me during this campaign. I didn't know all you guys were here, and at times I felt like the only Obama supporter in this mostly-Republican part of California. I played it over and over, and it never failed to comfort and inspire me. I love the clips from Obama's now-historic speeches interspersed with really great music. Definitely my favorite campaign memorabilia. Oh, and the People Magazine that arrived today, with Barack's beaming smile on the cover. That's a keeper! :)
P.S. Now that I know you guys are here, I'll be a frequent visitor.

One of the things I love most about our new president-to-be is his call to service. I am hoping that this very website will be transformed into a tool for service. Or perhaps a new site could be set up called www.YesWeCan.gov Ideally, it would be a place that would give Senator Obama's army of volunteers an opportunity to get direction from him about the broad goals he wants us to focus on for our country and ways to get involved; or receive communications about emergency efforts such as blood drives or how to support the Red Cross in facing a new crisis; and a way for citizens to communicate with each other about needs in our neighborhoods and how to adress them.
Maybe President Obama could even invite every family in America to set up a personal page on this site. Each family’s page would be complete with a dashboard where they could log in and keep track of their volunteer efforts and civic-minded actions, much like was done in the campaign where we got 3 points for every phone call, 15 points for every event, etc. Except now we'd get 3 points each time for taking materials to the recycling center, 10 points every time we report doing an hour of volunteer work in our communities, 100 points for buying a hybrid car, etc.
Yes, Senator Obama encourages us all to take initiative on our own, but getting broad-stroke direction from him, along with website tools and an online record-keeping ability to track our efforts would be really useful and highly motivating to our citizenry. Quantifying effort and tallying numbers has been a critical part of the success of this campaign in motivating and mobilizing volunteers. The same sort of metrics could be used to motivate and mobilize citizens under an Obama administration. In addition, we would want him to be able to take credit for our efforts. Imagine if at the end of a year he could point to the tallies on www.YesWeCan.gov website and report that American citizens recorded x number of hours doing community service...recycled x number of pounds of what would otherwise be trash...reduced driving by x number of miles through coordinated carpooling, etc. For any doubters out there wondering whether anything at all had changed in our country over a year, the proof would be in numbers such as these.
Any thoughts?

is to purchase a digital camcorder, the kind that records right to a flash card or a hard drive and then uploads right to computer via USB cable. In addition to that, a good microphone for voice-overs. I would really like to film and interview everyday people taking advantage of Obama's service in exchange for college education plan, or those people affected by finally being able to afford health insurance, or the unemployed who are being put to work on new infrastructure projects, etc.
I really want to help promote President Obama's agenda, even if it only makes it to YouTube. I really would like to be able to compete on a level playing field with the corporate media because I'm convinced that people would rather hear words of encouragement and see acts of kindness than the trash that CNN, FOX, & MSNBC have been spewing forth. My biggest disappointment during this whole campaign is that the media basically missed a great story because they were so busy with their old politics, i.e., Bradly Effect, poll watching, slicing and dicing the electorate, etc.
I hope we can do something about limiting media ownership to reverse this monopoly of mental munchkins mouthing this madness for one moment more. Can you say alliteration? :>)

Yorkies are a wonderful breed and they are hypoallergenic, so they won't make your daughter sick :) There are rescue shelters for Yorkies all over the country where you can look at them online with your family.
They may be small dogs, but they are huge on character :)

P-E Obama was wonderful today; presidential and confident but also relaxed and funny. We have to stick with him, have his back as he makes difficult decisions. Some may become irritated, . . . but we must stand firmly with him. It took years to get in this mess. Barack is the only person I know who can help us (as he says) climb out of the hole we have dug. We must all stick together and continue to explain him and his plans to those who are still uninformed.

I do know there is not any way that Barack can appease everyone though. We cannot be too critical with the enormity of his new job of helping us.

We have been following the US election campaign with interest in the media over the past months and watched the election coverage in Melbourne, Australia leading up to the culmination of your efforts.
We would like to congratulate President Obama on his well deserved win. We also found his victory speech to be exceptionally inspiring.
Please accept our best wishes, Mr & Mrs Obama, and best wishes also to your family and to your team now and for the future!

I had a pretty good idea today, when I heard on Andrea Mitchell, that all Obama would have to do is call out to his millions to write or call their congressmen when they are going against what he needs to get his policies passed..
I had such a great feeling knowing we could do this for our guy whenever he will need us. It is great to be needed!

I disagree with what Zuckerman and Scarborough said on MSNBC's 1600 that a consumer stimulus will have the same result as the one earlier this year. I am not a economist nor am I a business guru; but, I am a consumer. I know my savings are down and, unlike earlier, this stimulus check will not go in the bank. It will go directly to the stores for holiday spending. I am not living from pay check to pay check, yet. However, we lost 240,000 jobs today and no one is safe. This, in my humble opinion, will help. the last stimulus package resulted in only 25% going right back into the economy; I believe well over 50% of a new package will go straight into the economy. (I have no scientific evidence to backup my projections, just a gut feeling).

Now that we have elected Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States, we have a new task ahead of us, reassuring our neighbors and friends who voted for John McCain that the end of the world is not coming. On Wednesday, the day after the election as I was raking leaves, a task I had postponed so I could canvass every day of GOTV, a neighbor passed by and said, "I see your guy won", referring to the Obama signs that had decorated my lawn for months. I said something about how happy we were about his victory. She indicated that she had voted for McCain and now she was very worried. I asked why, and she said it was because of Barack's association with terrorists. I explained that Obama and Ayers were on the board of the Annenberg Challenge Project, a charitable organization working to improve Chicago schools. Barack knew Ayers as a neighbor, but was unaware of his background, news of which appeared when Barack was eight years old. There is no reason to believe that Barack knew of Ayers history, given they were both working with a Republican funded organization. Her response, "Funny, that's exactly what my son-in-law told me." I went on to tell her that I had the opportunity to meet Barack at a Sunday morning prayer breakfast, and listen to him tell about his Christian faith and how he came to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior. I consider myself a good judge of character, and there was a ring of truth about his story that I don't believe he could fake. I reassured her that he is a Christian and not a Muslim and any statement to the contrary was just a political smear. I hope I was able to ease her mind just a little.
Everyone should take any opportunity to spread a positive message about Obama and continue to fight the false information that is still in the minds of many on the other side.
Peace - Dude

I've been counseling those who can accept it. The misinformation was spread out there pretty thick and we'll all have a time getting it rooted out.
Some disturbing news in today's local paper - an AA man near Greenville PA had his car vandalized with spray painted slogans about Obama and then set on fire and destroyed. The man reported he has lived in the community for eight years and never had a problem of any kind before.
There are ignorant and dangerous elements out there and whatever we can do to educate and enlighten is to the good.

Barack,I'd like to ask a few questions about my education. I'm concerned about my education and what it actually represents.
Is our education free?
Why does it cost money to take SAT'S or ACT'S. Would the people giving me the test not think I'd take it as seriously just because I don't have a couple of bucks in my pocket to take a test and buy a "sody Pop". I think our taxes, that pay for education, should also fund SAT'S and ACT's as well. It just seems to me that all the money being made off these tests is going in the wrong places. (where might it be going...) I don't think this money is going back into any educational purposes what so ever. I say this becuase every time I turn around I always see these "SAT/ACT" officials talking about how "beneficial" it is to take the test over again. As soon as I said I wanted to take the test, right away I got a "You should really take it more than once" lecture. The money we spend is certainly not going towards educational purposes if the "SAT/ACT" officials keep telling us to take the test over again even if we haven't taken it yet. I'm just so sick of hearing about "Sally May" and how she took the test three times just to improve her math score. This makes no sence. If you take a test and fail it, taking it a second or multiple amount of times, doesn't mean you're going to improve. I have so many more thoughts about these SAT'S/ACT'S that I can talk about later, I only have around 122 words left. :-)Would it be at all possible if you could send me an e-mail on your thoughts about this subject? Or you could represent my statement in one of your speeches in the near future? I may send this message over and over again, I want my voice to be heard. I know my voice is small, but I think it speaks for many people. Thank you Mr. President for creating such a wonderful websight.

Mark Joseph Pratt

I have to agree with you, in a way.
I'm also a high school student. I took the ACT in April (thanks to a family member being able to pay for it last minute) and I was scheduled to take an AP test the year before.
The AP exam was $82, yet if I took it and passed with a 3/5 or better, I could have skipped my introductory Poly Sci course my freshman year and moved on to the next.
But I didn't have the money.
So I asked my counselor what I could do and she said that the only waivers available for low income students amounted to $30. I still would have had to cough up $50 on my own, $50 that I did not have.
So, even though I had an A- in the class and could have passed the test with at least a 4, I refused to take it.
I would love for these waivers to be a bit more extensive if it were somehow possible. I was only allowed to take 1 AP class my sophomore year, but if I were still in the public school system I would have taken an additional 4 since then, yet would have not taken any of the tests and would have basically wasted my time.
Unfortunately, here's the problem: this is a state issue. Michigan, as I exemplified above, wasn't so hot on helping us out. It's up to each state to decide how they will help, if at all.
What I would suggest to you is, contact your local senator/representative with your ideas.
If you want, send me a message on here (but send me a friend request so that I can reply back) and I can help you out with some of the research you'd need to do, considering that you'd need to know how much such a program would cost.

As a teacher I feel low income kids with parental income of less than $40,000 should have their test fees waived regardless of how many times they have to take it. If we are truly going to shrink the gap between the haves and the have nots we MUST educate our lower income children so that they have a shot at being a high income earner after college. Lets edcuate our way out of poverty. One caveat it that a low income child must actually want to work his or her tail off to get through college. Barack's community service program forces anyone wanting the the $4000 college tuition grant to work 100 hours of community service for free to appreciate it.

This is what defines the American Mind. Never give up, never be silenced, and work together toward a common goal. It never ceases to amaze me that the American Experiment was successful and it is at times like this that I am reminded why.
Everyone have a fantastic and relaxing weekend, (including our new president, vice president, and their respective families, you've earned it) and be ready to get back to work on Monday. :)

I am sure that their are many more people in areas of service that would be willing to help. Thats just one small example.
I also have lived abroad, served in the military and would LOVE to have a role in international good will. OOOOOH, may be i could take the college kids to other countries for service and connection to different countries. I could do a joint effort with my friend who happens to be jewish, and i am muslim.....there you go service, international relations....etc.
Maybe they'll have on-line applications, or fund raising for projects.

Report to Admin
By
Ryan from West Des Moines, IA
Nov 7th 2008 at 6:38 pm EST (Updated Nov 7th 2008 at 6:38 pm EST)
It all begins with balancing the budget. Obama somehow needs to balance the budget. Cut spending by pulling us out of the wars, reducing our payments to other countries by reducing the interest rates on bonds that are outstanding to reduce our interest payments. If the govenment can say, hey, we're only going to pay 1.5% on our bonds, then the government can use the extra money saved to pay the principle down. When the principle is paid down the extra money saved can continue to pay it down. This really is the only option availible. Obama could cut defense spending. That could save additional money. But Obama would have to lean on allies to continue to put the pressure on extremeism. What do you think? If you like my idea let me know. Tell me what you think about the government mandating that interest rates be below what they actually state? If the govenment has the power to do this, they should to save the taxpayers money and to bring our deficit back to a balance. What do you guys think?

Unfortunately, hundreds of thousands of newly unemployed have lost their jobs just this year. I have always maintained that manufacturing is the basis for a prosperous economy. The BS about being a service economy has now been exposed. Barack must do many things, but one of them must be to change the tax laws so that the tax breaks are given to companies who keep jobs in this country.

I'm SO glad they're "keeping Us!" For future reference, as long as they'll accept long usernames, my name will be the same on any future Obama websites. It may be Ms. Hippibilly instead of Ms. Red-state Hippibilly for brevity's sake, though.
What is a hippibilly? I've never heard the term before. It might not be new, but I like to think that I made it up, (until I've been told differently). A hippibilly is not a "hip" billy-goat or a curvy hillbilly. A hippibilly is one part hippie one part hillbilly.
Now, mind you, I wasn't around during the "Summer of Love", and I don't fill a lot of the stereotypes that go with hillbillies, but I consider myself a hippibilly because of what lies deep in my heart. I have a fierce love of the rolling hills of TN and have had the pleasure of living in a place where I could see 7 counties from my back yard. I am socially liberal and a very loving person. I love the Earth and the smell of dirt and autumn leaves brings tears to my eyes. I've travelled this great continent, I've been lucky enough to enjoy a lot of the finer things in life, I'm well-read and very aware of world events, but nothing makes me happier or prouder than simple things like people getting together, good homegrown food, family, moonshine, animals, nature, arts, crafts, environmentalism, music, and dying arts like canning or quilting. I'm a hippibilly at heart. You can spot a person like me by their grin, their grace, their old but fuel-efficient cars, and their hospitality.
I love yaw! I'm so glad that we can stay together. Look for me in future Obama sites. You will find a friend!

Nov 7th 2008 at 6:41 pm EST (Updated Nov 7th 2008 at 6:41 pm EST)
Ok...I'm hearing that I have to write my congressman (I'll be going to his office some point this weekend/week), which I have. But I have to think that the Senator's/President Elect campaign people can point me in another direction or something...
I want to see all my hardwork come to fruition in that one shining moment. I already have a room and everything...I was so confident, I booked the room months ago...
Anyone have any knowledge on this subject???

Do you have definite ideas about how the Obama Presidency should approach the different issues facing us now?
Martin O'Leary is hosting an Obama Event on Nov 9 at the Brittania Arms and it has as a serious tone. Yes he knows that Obama backers want to celebrate but he wants a serious discussion as to what the next step is; for the Obama Presidency, for the Bay Area, for enviornmentalism, etc. So I thought that I would give you a heads up so that you can start thinking of suggestions to bring up at the event. Possible speakers: Bob Petit, Mari Houssni and Galen Swain
When: Sunday, Nov 9 1pm-4pm
What: Obama Event
Where: Brittania Arms
Host: Martin O'Leary

Just watched excerpts from the press conference and was appalled at the 'Nancy Reagan' remark. Mr. Obama should issue a quick and clear apolgy to an elderly, ill lady whom many in our country love--just as Mr. Obama loved his late grandmother. Absent this action, Rush and FOX will eat him alive for weeks. It was so unlike his campaign persona!

We're in a different place now, Ira. No more of this business of making mountains out of molehills. That was the way it worked in the old mindset. In the new mindset, we don't get all worked up about little things, we don't twist every little thing everyone says every which way. That's over now.
We just went through a bruising general election campaign. Lots of us are not very happy with the campaign that McCain ran, but McCain was very gracious in his concession speech. If McCain can continue to leave the negativity of his campaign behind him, then we've got a big place waiting for him in the new political environment. We are ready to have McCain jump right back in and pitch in and help us take on the challenges we're facing. Our problems are just to big for holding grudges - that's over with. And our problems are just too big to continue to get all bent out of shape over little things.

Look, we've got the power now. If we offer that kind of graciousness to those who are now out of power, it's going to be awfully hard for them to come back at us with gracelessness. If instead of leaving them out in the cold, we welcome them into the warmth of the hearth, it's going to be awfully hard for them to dishonor our hospitality.
Ira, it's our generosity of spirit that won us this election. In the end, the middle of the country was simply unable to resist our generosity. We fought fire with water. Generosity defeated nastiness - that's the story of this election. And I, for one, am determined to see that that is the story of the Obama era.

Ok, I know someone here can help me. I was talking to someone VERY late on election night (and yes it involved alcohol!) and was talking about one photo that I saw during this campaign that can bring me to tears just thinking about it.
It's a photo of Barack walking up the street (I think) and there is a young (teenage i think) white girl with her bi-racial baby. She's holding her baby out as far as her arms can stretch toward Barack as he came past her. The look on her face is all of the hopes and dreams she has for her child. She just wanted to be able to tell her child someday that they were within feet of the first American president that looked like them.
I think it was in one of the Obama with children slide shows. Anyone know what I'm talking about? I promised to send it to someone.
Thanks,
KIm

Very happy with that conference (in spite of that odd off-the-cuff remark about past presidents). He did look a bit weary and I think it is not just the grueling nature of this 2 year-long campaign but the realization of the burdens he will carry as POTUS.
I sincerely wish him and his family all the best. And hope he gets some very well deserved rest this weekend.
I am also thrilled to see confirmation by this thread that our virtual family will live on as it must.

It will be interesting to see how many of the ‘general public’ will be represented in his administration.
