I AM GENERATION OBAMA
My 2 year-0ld daughter points to the image on the screen "MOMMY, DAT OBMA" she says with her broken english running to wipe my face and asking me "MOMMY WHAT WRONG" she notices me crying. "THESE ARE HAPPY TEARS" as the announement was made as to whom this election belonged to............................I, claim my right of passage into the GENERATION OBAMA MOVEMENT!
WELCOME AMERICA TO MY GHETTO AMERICA
MY GHETTO AMERICA
Address us with respect
For, we ddin't ask to be here
Birthed, againist our will
Silent, are our childrens dreams in the night
As another bullet is lodged in the minds of all who can breathe
CEDA, being home to many of us who struggle for answers
Longing, to invest in futures you say "DON'T EXIST"
3 AM a mother hides her face as the tears fall
For gun shots ring out in her hood
We, are stepping and walking on cracked pavements, surrounded by vacant buildings
Sending letters, to officals that are too busy to take notice
Clergy, who put dollar signs before congregational needs
We, travel two hours to work in your homes and stores
Only, to pray that our "CHILDREN OF THE NIGHT" make it home safely
You, toss us peanuts as we travel two hours on PACE
Two hours, on CTA
To do this all over again...........
We, are mothers of Silent children who can't say "I, love you,"
For 3 years, we've waited for our children to say "MOMMY, I love you,"
Only, for doctors to provide no answers
Reducing our flourishing incomes to one
Limited, income for treatments are due
As, the rain falls......................
Please, wash the sorrow away
For, we are Silent ones
Calming, the storms of life through song......................(copyright@2006silentwhispers)
I, represent an otherwise ignored generation of women who have been rejected by society because we haven't advanced within either our educational, or financial careers. Our worlds, have been injected with the generational curse of poverty. We've, been told by society that we'll never amount to anything ethically, or morally. Yet, this election has turned the tables on that view point all together. We, are treated as second class citizens when it comes to HEALTHCARE, EDUCATION, and HOMEOWNERSHIP. The reason, I voted for Obama has nothing to do with race. PRESIDENT Obama, was selected by me based on his heart. When, a person isn't too busy being famous to come to the outskirts of Illinois one sunday morning and stood on the stage of a small baptist church(St. Mark M.B.Church Cathedral/Harvey ILL)and asked for the support of the congregation. When, a person can look beyond their own prosperity to see the need of the people less advanced then yes MR. PRESIDENT YOU HAVE MY VOTE!
