After reading the morning's news, I am once again propelled into an enthusiastic place over this history-making elction.
I respect Senator Obama's willingness to openly discuss the issues tat have been, in past elections, undercurrents of hatred, behind-the-scenes attacks, and issues for division. I also feel deeply connected to a candidate who will say, "I will not stand for these pedestrian, meaningless attacks on my opponent, as well." (My quote, not his).
Senator Obama takes all of the bite out of these attacks when he faces them head-on, and I am so proud to be aligned with a candidate who does so; boldly facing the criticisms for not being a characiture of patriotism; redefining patriotism as "believing in the Aerican people, and the American dream." (again, my quote).
Good for you, Senator! What a powerful message, and a goal that anyone in this country can aspire to...you have taken the onus off of yourself and millions of other Americans who have not necessarily served in the military, and made patriotism something we can all participate in.
Although I am a veteran, my militaary service has nothing to do with the way I feel about America, or the promise of America.
In more ways than one, this campaign has served to reinvigorate my sense of patirotism; because the way Obama has conducted himself and the way the American people have invested their time and energy into a better, more perfect union because of your inspiration.
Thank you!
