As a progressisve who has voted the Democratic ticket, I too am frustrated with the seeming cowardice and blind stupidity of the Democratic majority but what I am also wearying of is the expectation that Barack Obama is the only Democrat in the Senate. (Full disclosure I support Barack Obama) regardless and I extend this to any other Sen. Dem Pres. candidates, that is the expectation that every single issue in the Senate must be handled by candidate A or B, if not than they are not the real deal. This child-like up and down by the day litany of support and non support displayed by some writers based on what is the deal breaker of the day strains the possibility of cogent political analysis. Yes we would like to see our favorite candidates always at the breach with the visage of the tiger. But that is not the case. We celebrate those that fight in key battles but run the risk of presuming that one moment is the sum total of that candidate's agenda. Dodd is standing up now. . . I don't remember seeing this type of leadership from him 2, 3, 4 years ago. Once again credit to Dodd for doing the very right thing but if you are expecting a red cape and a big SN on Obama's chest than that's not going to happen. And believe me it won't happen for any other candidate. It seems to me Dodd has had enough time in the Senate to make the sort of mark we now expect from Obama. I like to think despite the competition for the Dem. nomination that all those candidates serving in the Congress are on the same team and pitch in as they are willing and able to (to some degree). Everyone should have their moment to lead the battle forward and that should be respected. Those of us in the progressive community who engage in these type of irresolute judgements can run the risk of being single issue voters but that won't create the society/world we want. It's called vision and it is vision that shapes the world.
