We know that coal is the enemy of the human race, what with carbon emissions, deadly air pollution, and unsafe and destructive mining practices. The supply of coal is becoming more problematic as well: recently, a Wall Street Journal article described a "coal-price surge," and Richard Heinberg has warned that coal may peak much sooner than most people expect. So what's to like? Not much.

But since coal-fired plants provide almost half of our electricity, we can't get rid of coal unless we find either a way to replace it or a way to reduce the use of electricity.

I will argue in this post that if buildings could produce all the space and water heating, air conditioning, and ventilation that they need, we wouldn't need any coal. Heating and cooling buildings and water now consume 30 percent of our electricity and 32 percent of our natural gas.

If, for instance, geothermal exchange units (also known as geothermal heat pumps) were installed under every building, and an appropriate amount of solar photovoltaics were installed on roofs in order to power those units, we wouldn't need to burn 60 percent of our coal because we would not need 30 percent of our electricity. And because we could redirect our natural gas from warming and cooling into electricity generation, we could get rid of the remaining coal, replacing it with natural gas.

In other words, the buildings would both destroy electrical demand and free up natural gas, until renewables come online and replaced natural gas in turn. If we did this within a 10-year timeframe, we could generate millions of green-collar jobs, create new industries, and help the rest of the world kill off the rest of coal.

Kindly check up a vidoe clip on cnn.com/politics where Bill Schneider was being interviewed by Ralitsa Vassileva after the Texas debate between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Bill Schneider was on Texas cowboy hat and the caption of the video clip was ''America votes 2008''. Schneider made clear that the difference between Obama and Hillary was not huge on issues but basically their approach to politics.

I'm sure this clip be good for you all to share with Independents, Republican and undecided democrats.

Hillary Clinton – whose campaign has spent the past several days pointing to instances of borrowed language in the speeches of rival Barack Obama – is being accused of lifting words from one very familiar politician: her own husband, former President Bill Clinton.

During Thursday night’s CNN Democratic debate, Clinton looked to highlight occasions when lines used by Obama have resembled those delivered by his friend and adviser, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick.

Clinton’s closing answer, which brought the audience to its feet, highlighted her personal struggles and the difficulties facing ordinary Americans: "You know, the hits I’ve taken in life are nothing compared to what goes on every single day in the lives of people across our country."

Shortly after she delivered her closing remark, a reader of Joshua Micah Marshall’s Talking Points Memo Web site noted that the line seemed to bear a resemblance to one her husband was quoted as delivering during his 1992 campaign.

"The hits that I took in this election are nothing compared to the hits the people of this state and this country have been taking for a long time," her husband was quoted as saying in an article by Anna Quindlen in the New York Times in that November of that year.

Last night, Hillary Clinton also said: “You know, whatever happens, we're going to be fine. You know, we have strong support from our families and our friends. I just hope that we'll be able to say the same thing about the American people. And that's what this election should be about.”

The Obama campaign immediately began circulating a similar comment delivered by former presidential candidate John Edwards. “What's not at stake are any of us. All of us are going to be just fine no matter what happens in this election. But what's at stake is whether America is going to be fine,” Edwards said during a December debate in Iowa.

Hello everyone! I am so excited for our campaign and the success that we are having. Hope everyone's making calls and getting people out to vote since it is early voting in Ohio and Texas. Also I am a watch dog and today HRC did a news conference in Ohio trying to discredit Obama saying that he sent out mailers and that they were not true on her healthcare and Nafta. Saying that she did not agree with it. But I would like for you guys to please view this link and pass it on because it is a clip from msnbc showing that she has said that Nafta was a success. This is to stop any rumors that would stop the momentum that our campaign is experiencing right now. We must win Ohio and Texas so that our guy can get ready for the election in Novemeber. I spent 5 hours at our "Texas phonebanking" luncheon, it was great. Nice turnout and lots of enthusiastic callers. Many of us called the "Spanish speaking" list to try and help with the Latino vote. We try to use NAFTA as an example of the "Clinton years failure", not everything about the Clinton years were great for the Latino community.
The link gives us even more evidence that HRC is just saying whatever it takes to get to the "Casa Blanca" (White House). Tim Russert's segment with HRC will help us clarify her thoughts about NAFTA. Thanks again.

Great link!

Not only does Russert show Hill's flip-flopping on NAFTA, but Brownstein asks the question: Which Hillary will we see in the White House? The Hill who's worked w/ the GOP in the Senate or the one who delivers a punch for a punch?

Brownstein addresses Hill's bipolar-like personality. At times she can work with the GOP for consensus building (in my opinion, for political points) and at other times she's a bitter partisan.

I tried to find the Hillary vs Hillary video on youtube. I could not find it on my own without coming back to the community Blog link. What I also find disturbing is that CNN is no better than Fox. If it were not for this site I would be blind sided by biased news reporting. I think that people should send that video to everyone they know so they will see what everyone is talking about.

Sorry, but another reason why I chose Barack over Hillary. In his response, Barack Obama was composed and calm and presidential. He also explained why the flyers are accurate.

And then there are the weak Republican attacks on Obama for not wearing an American Flag lapel pin. Give me a break! Wearing a lapel pin does not prove patriotism. Acts and plans to return American to an honeorable standing in the world more represent patriotism. Look where Bush and Cheney's Patriotism has brought us. To a miserable, failed, stupid war in Iraq, instead of in Afghanistan where the perpetrators of 9/11 are hiding. And McCain just ants to continue Bush's failed war for 100 years. Is McCain going to be around for that long? Because if he wants to set us up fora 50-100 year commitment I think he should have to live with the consequences of such irresponsibility for as long as anyone else. The guy is going to be 72 by January of 2009. I do not think he is going to here to live with the consequences of continuing this Iraq war. So of course he doesn't care about the consequences it will cause for the rest of us.

Go Barack Obama 08. Please bring the change we desperately need in this country. Thank you for your candidacy. If not for you we would be stuck with Hillary and McCain.

Seriously, the mailers are not new to her. HRC campaign has seen them before, why is she acting as if she has just seen it for the first time. Her "outrage" is phony.

Your link proves that she thought it was a good idea. Now she has changed her mind, but she should just say that she feels different (flip, flop it happens) about NAFTA now, not charge Obama with going negative.

One of Senator Clinton's major punch lines goes something like this.... (apologies if I misquote) "It took a Clinton to clean up after the first Bush, and it's going to be a second cleaning up after the second Bush"

All fine and good, not a bad line, but follow the logic as it applies to NAFTA. In her hissy fit yesterday, Senator Clinton ripped Senator Obama on healthcare and NAFTA mailings. She claims she was always against NAFTA but deferred to Bill's wishes. She further says that NAFTA was actually a Bush Sr. program that only passed when Bill was in office.

Questions--- How, then, was this cleaning up after the first Bush? Is this what we have to look forward to in a imagined Clinton 2 administration, accepting Bush Jr. programs, and only abandoning them when electoral politics seem to get in the way?

Senator Clinton, you can't have it both ways.

Below is a link to the With One Voice fundraising campaign for Senator Obama. It was started in honor of the voter in South Carolina who gave this movement $3.01 and a bible verse. She, like most of us, could not afford to max out her financial contribution. However, the spirit of this movement is not a few people doing a lot, it’s many people doing everything they can.

The goal is to echo our friend 10,000 times over and raise $30,100. So far we’ve raised over $7600 from over 235 people. Our short term goal is to reach $10,000 by March 4th. Here's Why Clinton Lashed Out at Obama -- Brilliant Approach

"You hear one thing in speeches and then you see a campaign that has the worst kind of tactics ... it is not only wrong but it is undermining core democratic principles" -- Clinton on Obama's mailers.

Much of political campaigning is poll-driven and Clinton's anger at Obama was very much driven by the exit polls that came out of Wisconsin. In the speech (video below), Clinton said that Obama should not attack her for wanting universal health care, it was unfair and undemocratic of him.

Basically her goal is to paint Obama's politics into the minds of voters that as being unfair. In Wisconsin, 36% of voters said neither candidate attacked unfairly. Clinton won that demographic by 7%. 28% felt that both candidates attacked each other unfairly and they all went for Clinton by 9%. But the astonishing statistic was that of voters who saw only Clinton as the candidate to attack unfairly, they drove to him 94% to 6% -- a whopping 88% margin.

So the more Clinton convinces voters that Obama is attacking her unfairly, the better she will do. And when considering the exit polls in Wisconsin, this strategy might work out just fine. I have not yet heard this stated elsewhere in the media so I felt the need to do so. Instead everybody is trying to paint this speech as desperation -- I don't agree, it is poll driven politics.

My partner's from Lima, OH, and there's a hamburger place called Kewpee there. It's legendary in that part of the state, and from what I hear, it was the inspiration for Wendy's. Apparently, they started the Frosty and square burgers there. It's pretty good stuff!

I mentioned to my partner today that Barack was going to be in Toledo tomorrow, and she said that if he made a stop off at Kewpee in Lima, she's pretty sure the whole town would vote for him ;-)

We need to be steadfast in reaching out to as many voters as we can in the March 4 states, especially Texas and Ohio.

The principal claim being made by our detractors is that we have not (and we cannot) win big states.

Should we succeed in winning the popular vote in both Texas and Ohio, this race is essentially over, even if the margins are close. That’s a fact that even the Clinton machine can’t spin.

What tells me their campaign is in the straights is an email from BC that I recieved this evening. In part he asks, "We need to raise $1.3 million to get this ad on the air and to match the Obama campaign's ad spending in Ohio, Texas, Rhode Island, and Vermont. We have to reach that goal in the next 24 hours"

The ad is of her closing at the debate where she discusses the injured soldiers she met at the hospital opening...the closing that had me screaming at the TV, 'YOUR VOTE HELP PUT THEM THERE!'

So, as I always do when I get a plea for Money from Hillary or Bill, I will donate some money to the Obama campaign.

Regardless of who wins the Democratic nomination, and especially if the nominees consent to public financing, I propose some benevolent, patriotic, and progressive millionaires establish a new 527 to counteract the inevitable slime machines that will emerge.

These slime machines will target both McCain and the Democratic nominee.

When these machines attack, we will see the ugliest of America, American politics, and quite possibly the American people should they be swayed these attacks.

An election that could have marched America ten steps forward, may show America to be the most backwards Western industrialized nation on the planet, if this election becomes overwhelmed by the slimiest of politics, that questions the patriotism of career public servants like John McCain, Barack Obama, and Hillary Clinton.

With candidates as inherently decent and as intelligent as these three, we could see an election and a debate superior to all in the recent past. But the slime machines have already begun to soil and spoil this election.

Who will stand up - not for McCain, Obama or Clinton, but for America?

Who will invest in inspiring the best in America? In tuning our attention to the issues?

Who will remind America that all 3 of these candidates are patriots?

Will you, MoveOn.org, help America move beyond the politics of fear, racism, misogyny, bigotry towards Muslims and Muslim names, and disdain for constructive critics of our nation?

I was worrying and didn't know why
Sen. Obama wasn't in New Orleans at the State of the Black Union event hosted by Tavis Smiley tonight. HRC was going to speak there and I remember the fallout when the Repubs. didn't show for a Tavis Smiley hosted debate.
HRC tried to apologize for Bill's awful remarks in SC. It was also reported that she was the only one invited who showed and even though she pins her hopes on OH and TX, she took time off to attend. This was after saying Sen. Obama
had said he had to campaign.
Ohh. I don't want him getting any grief for this.
All know how he cares about NO, LA and African-Americans in this country.

Tavis Smiley has been negative from the beginning.

Barack has to stay on the road with the voters right now. Hillary can go because she has Bill - a former president working and campaigning when she is not.

Barack has to stay on a traveling schedule.

They interviewed several people going in at the dinner on CNN and they said they were not offended at all by him not being there that they felt he was very well representing them. It is probably on a cnn link but they were interviewing people going in.

SO, in the meantime you can tell people the above about CNN interviews to take up for him there.

He has been sniffling behind the Clintons from day one and never hesitates to project the image that Besides, looking at the big picture, there's only so much Obama to go around and personally I like the idea he chooses to spend time with the people and not on a daius with a bunch of stuffed shirts who tend to look down their noses at us, pat our heads and tell us; "It's alright, THESE are the issues that affect and concern you and THIS IS HOW WE are going to fix it for you.

Watched the entire thing, including Hillary at the end. It may be what put her in such a mood. Reception cordial, but slightly cool.

Barack was there in the hearts of many, and the best point made by many is how hope links to faith, and how the young voters so motivated have to stay positive, no matter who wins the nomination, stay organized and involved.

The black community showed no resentment that I could perceive, to him being out on the campaign trail.

None. The tone between panelists supporting Hillary, and those supporting Obama, is exactly the tone we need to maintain. The community of hope, the derives from a depth of faith will survive whatever may come....keep moving forward!

The "State of the Black Union" while addressing numerous issues, is, in my opinion, a forum for Tavis Smiley to make a name for himself.

He does allow a platform for voices that are not often heard in the Main Stream Media, and for that, I definitely thank him.

But objective? NOT! Smiley is for Smiley. And it is evident that his ego has gotten the best of him.

Sen. Obama explained in great detail why he could not make this forum. He offered a number of solutions, the best of which was to send his lovely wife, Michelle, as a surrogate.

Tavis has tried to suggest that Sen. Obama will somehow not address the issues of Black America if he doesn't attend the SOBU.

I say, along with many other folks, that Sen. Obama will do more for ALL people, regardless of color or socioeconomic status. Of course he will pay attention to Black issues, but he will also pay attention to poor people, women, children, etc, etc.
Sen. Obama has the opportunity to TRANSFORM this country. But first he's got the get the job.

And, Tavis, in case you hadn't noticed, he's running for President and is a little busy right now, trying to win in Texas and Ohio.

I too watched the whole State of the Black Union Program. The fact that all of the candidates had been invited to attend was mentioned 4-5 times during the day. However, I got no sense that Obama's absence was a problem, except for a couple of Clinton supporters. In any case, Rev. Sharpton made it very clear that Obama needed to be doing what he was doing while Clinton needed to be there to explain the actions of her husband in South Carolina and other places.

Expect to see HRC or her surrogates try to make an issue of Obama's absence, however. She's trying to regain support that she has lost due to her negativity. I don't think she picked up a single new vote.

And when those in attendance at the Union see how she has yet again attacked Obama unfairly, I think her support will decrease even more.

Had Mr. Smiley managed to get all of the candidates to attend he would have accomplished a major coup...then he would have turned the whole thing into a debate between the candidates. I don't think it hurt that Senator Obama did not attend this event. He has some serious campaigning to do and besides the people just saw him in person a couple of weeks ago in NO. I've read some comments from the attendees at the event and 99% of them stated that they understood that he was trying to win an election and could not be there. HRC had to attend because she needs to make amends with the AA community for her husbands actions. Plus, quite frankly I'm sure she was hoping to get some votes out of this. I watched the entire event and I am so glad he Barack did not attend. Just think the republicans would have used this as a wedge between blacks and whites. There were some things said that I believe was unfair and offensive to whites, speaking as an AA. If he would have been there, even after words were said, the republicans would use this as ammunition.

For those who watched the State of Black American, have anyone noticed the numerous times Tavis referred to his new book? Have you noticed that his new book is to be on shelves right after the general election? and last point, How this union was planned during the campaigns. I respect Tavis, but I believe he got his own agenda.

One last thing, it was more discussion about the campaign, which work against Tavis than for him, instead of the state of black america. This was a calculated event.

This event is not organized to bring a wedge between Blacks and Whites or Blacks and any race for that matter. Also the Republicans were invited and declined the invitation.This is not a closed event and anyone could attend. If it was meant to be a bashing event then it would not have aired on CSPAN as it always does. This is not the first year for this event as a matter of fact it is generally held about this same time every year. Do Diligence. This is really old news in the AA community. Trust me, Tavis Smiley has tried to make Obama's non attendance at this caucus as a way to cause a rift between AA support of Obama (he announced his displeasure of candidates not accepting his invitation in a fit of self importance on the Tom Joyner show--conspicuously after Barack's impressive showing on Super Tuesday) , and it completely backfired on him. Obama has had an outpouring of AA support regardng his decision to not attend the caucus, Obama reached out to Tavis regarding his decision, and Michelle even offered to go (Tavis refused)--and Tavis has given his word to not continue to speak on this issue--and if he does, he will certainly risk even harsher criticism and backlash from the AA community because of the pettiness of this arguement.

Nope. We get, "Enough of the speeches and big rallies!" Sounded pretty dissonant to me.

Made me want to go to another rally.

I do believe Ms. Hillary has come un-corked! Her very strategic "softer side" at the debates switched back into her Scorpion sting and very calculatedly seized the opportunity to blow off all the frustration she's had since Feb. 5th. She's been watching Obama beat the crap out of her, she's in debt and not paying her vendors, she's in L.A. court for charges of campaign fraud from her senatorial race, her popularity is fading fast, and she's on the ropes. Watch her lash out!

We watched her in denial, grinning and smiling and talking her head off in every direction but straight. Finally she justs had to blow! And in classic sociopath fashion, she projected all her sins onto Barack Obama.

Meanwhile, he's cool, calm and "Aloha" collected, keeping focused, on point, making sure he's got the facts lined up. It's going to get worse as Billary tries the attack mode. Heck, they have to try every tactic under the sun in their last gasp.

I wish they would just go away.

When people want to talk about their opinions on Senator Clinton, I usually answer by indicating that, as Democrats, we are fortunate to have such capable and dedicated candidates, then go on to respectfully indicate the positive reasons I support Senator Obama. No matter what the polls look like, we need to stay on the phones...remember the end goal, need a win in November...

It is an outstanding article. I have already e-mailed it to several other people. His analysis is spot on. Keep HOPE shining. I thought Barack was absolutely terrific in Cleveland tonight--it was amazing to watch. He has been so sick and exhausted I couldn't believe his composure and eloquence. Let's pray he gets some measure of rest. Let's keep phoning, donating, and volunteering. We all have work to do.

Folks, things look better in TX, but we are still BEHIND in Ohio. I am leaving in a couple of days to volunteer in Columbus until 3/5. If you can get to Ohio, get there!!! Our ground game has made the difference in all the other states. If we can even get to under 5 pts., it will be a HUGE victory.

Totally agree with you. Richardson was not even winning the Hispanic vote. As far as I am concerned endorsements don't mean much. Both Edwards and Richardson are just trying to remain relevant by constantly ranting about endorsement. Both Dodd and Biden left the scene gracefully without constantly teasing people with their endorsement plans. We do not need these folks, we should focus on our ground game. If they had so much support, they will still be in the race.

Endorsements mean nothing significant at this point for a front-runner.. Obama needs to maintain his positive message, stay above the fray, and not get drug into the mud..

Let HRC continue to attack and be negative. this will get her nowhere and IMO is not encouraging to Edwards or Richardson if either one of them were thinking about endorsing her...

After Mar 4, I have a gut feeling everything will begin falling into place. Keep Making calls and keep being positive everyone. Lets all try to stay away from talking sh#** about HRC and stick to the issues and are strong ability to build the first working majority America has seen in a lONG and overdue time...

I don't think it's obvious he'd endorse HRC. He's very endebted to the clintons. If we wanted to endorse her, he'd just do it. He might want to endorse Obama, however, and needs to play the agonizing decision thing, to show respect for his debts to the clintons - that he didn't just ditch them without thinking twice.

This isn't an issue in the primaries but I do think it is stupid and outrageous enough accusation that the Republicans are sure to make it their primary method of attack. It'll sound similar to Kerry's Swift Boating.

Here's what I think the media's strategy against Obama is--the media keeps complaining that's "Obama's all fluff," "no specifics" etc. What they're hoping is that Obama will respond to these criticisms by overcompensating with too many specifics of his plans. But the rule of politics is that the more specific you get, the more people you alienate, and the more people will disagree with you. If Obama continues to push the specifics, he will alienate more and more people.

Before this time, they did not give him a snowball's chance in the Bahamas. They still repeated that the Clintons were the comeback kids. With the coverage over the mismanagement of campaign funds by the Clinton organization, Barack's executive skills are coming out loud and clear. Considering the fact that he has won 11 contests in a row, I think that his strategy is sound.

I'm a new guy here, so pardon any errors in blogging Etiquette please. I am a former Edwards supporter who moved to B.O. after John stepped away from the fray. I truly wish he would endorse Mr. Obama publicly before 3-4! The team in HQ needs to keep working on that, along with a Bill Richardson endorsement, which would really keep the Clinton camp on the run IMHO. I love the positive tenor and tone of this campaign, and this blog. I check in every day for a dose of hope! I also donate $100 every time HRC goes on the attack, as I did earlier today. welcome! I see most of my neighbors had donated to Edwards campaign. I think if Edwards had endorsed Obama early , it would have given us some advantage here in WV. However, now I think the added advantage from his endorsement will not be that big of a deal as a lot of people must have already moved on to another candidate on their own.

I just want to step in and say that I don't think that Richardson or Edwards are seeing themselves as the deciding factors in this. People are being kind of nasty, calling them arrogant for taking the time to choose who to endorse. But you can't forget that they are both political people with constituents who expect them to behave in certain ways. You also have to recall that whoever wins will probably be the president, and it's a good idea to try and be on the winning side when you're a politico. However, you also don't want to alienate a potential political friend by siding with their opposition. Not to mention that both Edwards and Richardson had some pretty good ideas and want certain things to happen as well...they want to be sure that if they endorse someone, that person will be the closest in core belief to what they originally wanted.

So lay off Richardson and Edwards. They're being wise, not arrogant. Endorsement is not all about getting one person to win. There's a lot more to it than that, and it's a tough decision to make, especially for two prior contenders for the nomination.

Endorsements mean nothing significant at this point for a front-runner.. Obama needs to maintain his positive message, stay above the fray, and not get drug into the mud..

Let HRC continue to attack and be negative. this will get her nowhere and IMO is not encouraging to Edwards or Richardson if either one of them were thinking about endorsing her...

After Mar 4, I have a gut feeling everything will begin falling into place. Keep Making calls and keep being positive everyone. Lets all try to stay away from talking sh#** about HRC and stick to the issues and are strong ability to build the first working majority America has seen in a lONG and overdue time...

I JUST came back from this event and it was incredible! Before Obama came on, a staff member told the Greenwood, SC story and he asked the crowd "how many people heard this story?" and I was one of the few who clapped! Infact, I noticed a few parts he left out! Guess I'm a TRUE Obamaholic! lol

The event was great and the turn out was incredible! The speech was similar to many of his others, and tonight I finally realized how many people haven't heard the same lines I've heard over and over again! (My cousin Dick Cheney, etc.) Either way, it was an opportunity to FINALLY hear them from him in person instead of on the television or computer.

At the end, I tried to get close enough to the rope line to shake his hand, but obviously it was really hard. People were pushing a lot! I can't blame them though, who wouldn't want to touch the next president of the United States???

I love Barack Obama! Let's make this HAPPEN!

I just visited HRC's blog and you know it's funny, the people over there are just like us. supporting thier canidate with encouraging words, phone calls and money. Yet, they are disillutioned because their reasoning for following thier canidate is her experience or her health care knowledge or some thing of that effect. But , what I think the difference between us and them is only that we get it that character matters. I myself think I could spend any amount of time with Senator Obama and feel at home with him and his family however with Senator Clinton, I don't think that I could be around her for more than a few moments at a time with out being uncomfortable.

Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to update folks on our successful day in Northern Nevada. We held our County Convention in Reno, which was awesome for the Obama contingent. We had a turnout of 915 delegates to Clinton's 668 and then picked up 58 of the 83 Edwards/Uncommitted delegates. After the count was final, Obama was alloted 329 of the 561 state delegates to the State Convention, and Clinton received 232. All in all a fantastic day.

However, Clark County (Las Vegas) Convention fell apart and had to suspend the convention because they didn't have a large enough facility and couldn't let all the delegates in. Clark County was where Clinton got most of her support on the 1/19 Caucus (and ended up "winning" the popular vote, although Barack ended up with more delegates 13-12. However, So, if Clark County ends up not sending delegates to the State convention, that could mean that Obama can officially add Nevada to his "win" collumn!! ANyone else hear any news about what will happen now in Las Vegas?

EIther way, we ba-racked in Reno today. We made him proud. The sound we made was at least twice as loud as the Clinton crowd. It was awesome!

You know I posted earlier about being amused by the over-confidence of the HRC campaign but I have to say that the Clintons I believe are not evil villians. They beat the GOP twice before the scandals hit. I think that respecting your opponent is one of the thing lacking in national politics today and it's one of reasons I'm supporting Obama. I think Mike Huckabee seems like a nice guy. I don't subscribe to his views but he strikes me as a decent person.

My fellow supporters, it was all staged! Come on people, we're smarter than that. We cannot fall prey to every orchestrated stunt that Hillary Clinton pulls out.
Nothing surprises me from the Clintons.

Let me tell you why I am not surprised at all. After sweet talking at the Texas debate and pretending to be "honored to be with Barack Obama", this is how Hillary Rodham comes out today to lambast him? I knew that she was hatching a plot and knew that fake compliment at the debate was a poisonous 'kiss' and crafty bait.

Hillary Clinton knows how to fake indignation. She is showing her claws and faked outrage so that her supporters feel for her... Get it?

That way the older women who fell for her choking up will once again --she hopes-- get out in droves to vote for her. Get it? Her fake indignation gives her 1) an excuse if she loses in Texas; 2)an excuse to summon him in a very patronizing way to STOP making rallies and speeches (how dare she?) and 3) an excuse for her supporters, 527 group to launch REAL attacks against Senator Obama...

Get it: My friends, that is the ongoing soap opera that the Clintons have been subjecting us to for the past 16 years. It will never end until we finally boot this DRAMA QUEEN out in the voting booths.

The ground game in Texas is slowly moving in our favor...

Here's a really moving story that illustrates what this campaign is all about: how Barack Obama has brought out the best in all of us.

I got a report yesterday from some members of my team already on the ground in Texas. They drove almost 24 hours nonstop from Riverside, Palm Spring and San Diego (in California) to Austin, with loads of campaign materials (posters, flyers, buttons, etc.). Most of all of those materials were made with funds out of our pockets or donated by devoted supporters here in California.

They helped in the visibility events before, during and after the debate on Thursday, and they were forefront organizers of the 30.000+ rally on Friday night.

Barack needs to hammer Clinton on differences in Health Plan | Report to Admin

I am not in favor of stooping to Clinton's level, but I do think Barack needs to really explain the "mandate" part of her Health Care plan and especially how it would screw young people. My understanding is that everyone will be forced to buy the insurance under her plan, and that healthy young adults who sometimes choose to have the bare minimum of insurance will be required to have the same plan AND pay the same amount as a 55 year old. Even the evil insurance companies recognize that this is unfair. I really think this contrast needs to be pointed out because her new "angry" Hillary is getting too much attention. We've seen the "issue wonk" Hillary, the "crying, sensitive" Hillary, the "populist" Hillary, the "I'll be just fine" Hillary and now we are seeing the "angry" Hillary, ranting about mailers that have been around for weeks. Barack should walk people through her bi-polar reincarnations in a non-confrontational way during the next debate and ask her which Hillary is on stage that night. I don't think he can just keep sort of laughing off her attacks.

This whole end of the debate comment by Hillary and her outburst yesterday were planed and coordinated. She wants an excuse to really get nasty at the last debate before March 4.

Everyone is saying the “Clinton camp is going to have to do something big if she is going to get back into the race”. Her plan is to rip into him at the debate. She will say this is ok because he is not campaigning fair and she pointed this out on Saturday.

In order to go negative she had to say at the close of the debate that we, democrats, support each other, then on Saturday she said he was attaching her with his direct mail campaign pieces on health care and NAFTA. These are the same direct mail pieces the campaign has been using all along.

Clinton feels the presidential nomination slipping from her grasp. So, as reality sets in it is going to get ugly out there. Clinton's don't like to loose. They will pull out all the stops to win.

The Tuesday night debate will be nasty.

DALLAS -- Security details at Barack Obama's rally Wednesday stopped screening people for weapons at the front gates more than an hour before the Democratic presidential candidate took the stage at Reunion Arena.
The order to put down the metal detectors and stop checking purses and laptop bags came as a surprise to several Dallas police officers who said they believed it was a lapse in security.
Dallas Deputy Police Chief T.W. Lawrence, head of the Police Department's homeland security and special operations divisions, said the order -- apparently made by the U.S. Secret Service -- was meant to speed up the long lines outside and fill the arena's vacant seats before Obama came on.
"Sure," said Lawrence, when asked if he was concerned by the great number of people who had gotten into the building without being checked. But, he added, the turnout of more than 17,000 people seemed to be a "friendly crowd."
The Secret Service did not return a call from the Star-Telegram seeking comment.
Doors opened to the public at 10 a.m., and for the first hour security officers scanned each person who came in and checked their belongings in a process that kept movement of the long lines at a crawl. Then, about 11 a.m., an order came down to allow the people in without being checked.
Several Dallas police officers said it worried them that the arena was packed with people who got in without even a cursory inspection.
They spoke on condition of anonymity because, they said, the order was made by federal officials who were in charge of security at the event.
"How can you not be concerned in this day and age," said one policeman.

The buzz is that Senator Clinton will show a softer side at the upcoming debate, having received uniformly bad reviews for her Xerox line and generally positive reviews for her "we'll be ok" line. She may make a direct appeal to the voters during the debate along the lines of "I've worked for you for 35 years and now I need your help to change our country ... I need your vote." Perhaps a good counter, should Senator Obama have an opening to respond, would be that it's not either candidate who needs your vote it is you the voter who needs your vote for true change that you can believe in because the generation we have been waiting for to bring about that change is us and the time to make that change is now.

If Senator Obama wins Texas, he will receive the nomination. Senator Clinton is on the ropes; thus, Senator Obama must engage a little "killer instinct" and finish her off. In the next debate, I think Senator Obama can err more on the side of pointed contrast with Senator Clinton. He should drive home his eloquent point about his ability to unite people by remarking on instances during the debate when Senator Clinton is being especially divisive. Perhaps a quip such as "there you go again Hillary" when she makes a particularly combative statement would be effective as long as it is not delivered in a condescending manner. I also think that Senator Obama should be more direct when confronting Senator Clinton regarding positions she has taken on the campaign trail. Does she really believe it is fair to seat the Florida and Michigan delegations after she signed pledge not to? Does she really believe that Senator Obama will not be ready to assume the presidency on "day one"? What is the basis for her perceived experience advantage over Senator Obama. He has been an elected official longer than she and his record of accomplishments rivals if not surpasses hers. And then there's the campaign -- as Senator Obama so effectively pointed out during the debate, the campaign he is leading and running hands on is not only "real" it is a real movement that is growing by leaps and bounds and that has had the same message from day one: meaningful change that we can all believe in as Americans. Can we say the same about Senator Clinton's campaign?So, in my humble opinion, for the next debate, Senator Obama should maintain his even, likable keel but be more pointed in the contrasts he draws with Senator Clinton, as well as more challenging of her outrageous comments about his record.

Obama has demonstrated again and again an ability to think on his feet and respond appropriately to everything being tossed at him. Most impressive is his uncanny ability (to borrow a baseball analogy) to wait for a good one. All the trash tossed his way, he lets go. There's only been one or two in the strike zone which got by him.

T.Roosevelt's proverb re: foreign policy comes to mind and, though out of context, can be applicable: Obama speaks softly but carrys a big stick, and has demonstrated again and again his ability to hit them out of the park.

Senator Obama should respond to Senator Clinton's shrill criticism today, including her saying that he should be "ashamed" of himself simply for pointing out the difference in their respective healthcare plans, by pointing out that she is engaging in the kind of divisive politics that has made her a polarizing politician. At the upcoming debate, he should state to her directly that just because he disagrees with certain aspects of her healthcare plan does not make him any less of a Democrat or worthy of shame. Indeed, it is that brand of absolutism, that exclusionary approach, that doomed her healthcare initiative in 1992 and has made her such a polarizing figure in American politics.

This is not to say that Senator Clinton's tantrum should be met in kind, but Senator Obama's rather muted response was too tepid in my view. He should stay on message and not bicker as she does; however, her behavior presents an opportunity for him to make the point that she truly offers a divisive (and failed) approach to politics that is very different from his. Perhaps he should respond to her by saying something like: "We are both Democrats seeking the honor to address President Bush's failed policies for the American people, so I'll meet you in Ohio not to fight with you but to fight for the opportunity to take our country in a new direction."

It worries me. Gore only needed around 600 votes to win Florida - Nader took nearly 100,000. I think it's incredibly selfish, though I believe it's anyone's right to run for President, to run when you know what kind of outcome it will produce. If Nader peels off even a few thousand votes in places like Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, etc., it could significantly change the outcome. It just makes Obama's challenge greater. He now MUST win those battleground states commandingly.

I can only hope that Democrats - even the far, far leftists (I consider myself in that group), will be pragmatic. Our best chance to avoid another 20 years of Republican disasters is to make Nader a complete non-issue. I'm hoping that he won't be able to raise money and that will limit his visibility and his appeal. And our people on-the-ground need to keep what happened to Al Gore constantly in the minds of voters. We can't allow Nader to do this again.

Sometimes I think he feels that if he screws things up enough for the Democrats, for long enough, eventually people will get sick of the Republicans enough to elect him to fix the problems. But, my God, he's 74 years old. Does he really expect for people to vote for him when he's 80 or 84 years old.

I just can't believe this is happening. I feel really unhappy this morning - even Ralph Nader, a real consumer advocate - will stand in the way of history to satisfy his own ego.

OK. After I calmed down I realize that if Clinton is the party nominee then a Nader run will probably slice her support in half if not more, depending on who is her running mate. But when Obama is the nominee, it will not really hurt his campaign. I think Republicans are more willing to vote for Obama than for Nader, and I can think of nothing Nader can say to sway Obama supporters away. Therefore, if I were a superdelegate I would be tossing my hat in Obama's ring right about now.

I'm sick to death of people like FOX News host, Bill O'Reilly, and his ilk thinking that he can use a racial slur against a black woman who could be the next First Lady of the United States, give a half-assed apology and not be taken to task and called on his crap.

This week O'Reilly gave the following response to a caller on his radio show who was making unsubstantiated negative charges against presidential candidate Barack Obama's wife, Michelle Obama:

"And I don't want to go on a lynching party against Michelle Obama unless there's evidence, hard facts, that say this is how the woman really feels. If that's how she really feels -- that America is a bad country or a flawed nation, whatever -- then that's legit. We'll track it down."
What the hell? If it's "legit," you're going to "track it down?" And then what do you plan to do?

What Obama HAS done | Report to Admin

For those who feel Obama has given no details for the changes he wishes to implement - I wish he would give more info on what he HAS done.

Last week Charlie Rose interviewed Samantha Power who is an expert on the Middle East. She stated that Obama convened a group of persons such as herself more than a year ago to address a new way of dealing with the problems over there.

Obama has also addressed domestic concerns in the same unheralded way. There is alot going on behind the scenes that is not mentioned at these huge rallies.

As a 67-year-old Caucasian female I have been torn back and forth between the two Democratic candidates. Now, considering the campaign organisation, choice of personnel and use of monies, I am again leaning toward Obama.

Hi Fay, You may or may not know this, but there is actually a video of an FP advisory roundtable here on the web site. I think it was convened in New Hampshire. Additionally, Susan Rice, a former FP advisor with the Clinton admin is part of these advisors and she often speaks to the press as campaign surrogate.

Hillary Fails to File Full Slate for Pennsylvania Primary

Hillary Clinton’s supposedly well-organized presidential campaign failed to file a full slate of convention delegate candidates for what may be a crucial primary in Pennsylvania on April 22.

But it could have been worse if Gov. Ed Rendell — a Clinton supporter — hadn’t extended the filing deadline, citing “winter weather” and the “closure of interstates at various times.”

The original filing deadline was Feb. 12 at 5 p.m. At that point, the Clinton campaign was reportedly 21 delegate candidates short. Rendell extended the deadline to Feb. 14 at noon, allowing 10 more Clinton delegate candidates to file but still leaving the campaign 11 candidates short.

The extension “could be viewed as more than just coincidental,” John Baer notes in the Philadelphia Daily News.

Clinton’s rival Barack Obama did file a full slate in Pennsylvania.

Baer observes regarding the Clinton effort in the state: “For a national campaign stressing competence, experience, ‘ready day one,’ one might expect a full slate in what could be a key state…

“It seems to me, in a state that could be important, in a state known for bad winter weather, a forward-looking campaign might be, well, more forward-looking.”

I want so badly for Obama to tell Hillary that he is, "Not Her Child" and that he cannot be scolded!

Her language of, "Shame On You" is belittling.

I have the same sentiments as most of you that Obama should get meaner and put Hillary in her place. However, deep down I know that he must take the high road and not play into Hillary tactics.

I wonder how Michelle feels about another woman talking down to her man, while he continues to be a gentleman and pull her chair out before she stands up.

Hillary's "place" is out of this campaign. We can put her there....more phone calls...more matching donations (has anyone seen how slow that counter is today?)

GOTV...we haven't had a state yet where, once people are informed, they don't swing towards Barack...and that swing will be even more pronounced if he plays his cards as he has been and stays "non-scrappy" with her. She scraps because she presumes the nomination should be handed to her. He does not because he understands that he's still in the process of earning everyone's trust.

OBAMA 08. We're tired. And nervous. BUT YES WE SURE CAN. Let's keep it up....One more week and we can bring this part of the campaign home....

You can kinda-sorta see me on the top phots with the blue shirt and the Lake County Captains baseball cap. I was in the second row along the aisle in front of the first O in Ohio. My wife and I had a great time. We parked in a parking garage along East 9th by the Shoreway (OH 2). We weren't sure how to get out of the parking garage, so we asked the attendant, and he knew were we were going, so he gave us directions to the convention center (I guess my Obama button was a giveaway). He must of thought since our car had Lake County tags, that we didn't know where it was. Little did he know that my cubicle at work overlooks the convention center. The crowd was psyched. We did the wave a couple times, which made the 11:00 news on WKYC (a very positive piece about how energized Obama supporters were). My wife didn't really want to come, but I told her we needed to be there to witness history, and she did end up enjoying herself.

I was there and saw you by that O in Ohio. Good to know Eastlake was represented by you and your wife and I hope other Eastlakians. Weren't we all so awesome ??? All of us there from Ohio to support the man we want to lead us for the next four years, hopefully eight. Let's keep working for Obama, volunteering, giving money, voting early - if we can.
