The support from the Jewish community is nice. Any way to find 70 Catholic leaders in PA to endorse our candidate? This is PA.
The Jewish community support will be critical to have a prayer in FL in the general election.

He is proving to be a wonderful teacher for his "quick study" candidate, helping Barack make warm-hearted connections with so many "Casey Democrats"!

Obama went on in rapid-fire succession, not shying away even from his recent underwhelming performance in a Pennsylvania bowling alley.
COFFEE OR TEA? — “Tea.”
WHICH PRESIDENT WOULD HE MOST WANT TO BE LIKE? — “Lincoln.”
WHY? — “He never lost sight of the humanity of even those who opposed him.”
IS HE SURE GOD EXISTS? — “Yes.”
HOW OFTEN DOES HE PRAY? — “Once a day, sometimes twice a day. It depends on the day.”
BEST THING HIS MOTHER TAUGHT HIM? — “Empathy, making sure that you can see the world through somebody else’s eyes, stand in their shoes. I think that’s the basis for kindness and compassion.”
WHICH MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL TEAM DOES HE LIKE, THE CHICAGO CUBS OR CHICAGO WHITE SOX? — “White Sox”
BASKETBALL OR BOWLING? Basketball.
NOT BOWLING? — “Not bowling. You saw those gutter balls. But you know what? That shows that I’m willing to try new things.”
WHAT MAKES HIM LOSE SLEEP? — “When I lose sleep at night, it is not because I am worrying about what’s going to happen in Pennsylvania or Indiana or how we’re going to resolve this contest. I lose sleep at night because I think about being president and all the challenges we have to face out there.”
**************
Now, let's see Clinton's answears.
Q. “Mrs Clinton, Basketball or Bowling?”
A. Ummm…(what city am I in) ‘Phillie’ BASKETBALL!
Q. How often do you pray?
A. PRAY!? Uh, I pray.
Q. How often?
A. Well, (is there a big religious base in this city?) ‘Yes’. I pray all day -- everyday (with members of the family but let’s not say that out loud)
Q. What makes you lose sleep at night?
A. LOSING! THE THOUGHT OF LOSING! I MUST WIN AT ALL COSTS! WHATEVER IT TAKES! WON’T DISENFRANCHISE FL OR MI, BUT WILL DISENFRANCHISE THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE AT THE CONVENTION! I WILL EVEN SAY ANYTHING TO WIN - WHATEVER IT TAKES!

To all Democrats, Independents, Undecided, Republicans, and former supporters of other candidates:
Welcome one, welcome all
Listen up and heed the call
Our time is now, join in the fun
This campaign is indeed for everyone
You may hesitate, you may even be shy
You might even be tempted to tell a white lie
But one thing we know for certain to be true
This election is all about me and you
Remember now, all this noise will be soon pass
All the confusion and bother, it will not last
We all want to be content in this beautiful land
Let's do this together, oh YES, WE CAN!
ONE LOVE, y'all!
Never give up, never give in
Keep the faith, keep HOPE alive!

I'm glad you're doing what you are doing.
It's unfortunate that the media and/or the other campaigns have decided to prey on perceived racial or gender biases and that we have to fight back in this way, but... it's also a positive counter-narrative to offer.
I marched in the Cesar Chavez parade several days ago and was conspicuously "white" but felt proud to support others whom I felt support for and empathy with. Crossing the racial and gender divide is a good feeling, indeed. Suddenly you find you are much more free from those boundaries. You feel liberated, I suppose.

Thank you sincerely. I refuse to wait in silence as they shape the narrative. Racism exists but far less than the button-pushers would like us to believe. Many democrats are voting against Obama, not because of racist tendency but because of a perceived racism in the electorate. The media planted these exagerrations and some democrats fear Obama can't win in the general election. They vote against him because they feel he can't overcome all this supposed racism and hate.
The funny thing is, if you're interested, I can show you an analysis that shows Obama beating Hillary by 100k votes with white males.

You are DEAD ON about the way the media narrative has shaped that perceived racism to fearmonger the electorate.
They did the same with the Latino and African-American issue, which was bizarre to me because I work with the NAACP on behalf of Latinos, and with some gang intervention groups out here in California (loose Latino rights advocacy stuff). It's like the pressed hard on old turf wars they dug up from the 1970's. That issue, in my very stolid opinion, is NOT a "Latino" issue... it is a Catholic issue more or less. And Latinos tend to be Catholic. That racial exaggeration just about did me in! It was race-baiting at its worst.
I'm sure a lot of folks would love to see the analysis. Sock it to us.
You should never be silent when there is something crucial to be said.

Polls have consistently shown that Catholics strongly favor HRC.
If you look at the exit polls in every state, you'll see this trends a lot more strongly than it does across racial lines.
It was first brought to my attention when I asked Latino friends why Barack wasn't winning. They were confused. They first pointed out that it was predominately with Catholic Latinos. I started watching the trend lines from exit polls and found it looked right, but crossed some racial boundaries.
The press credited it to "educated" and "younger" Latinos, but it was much more Catholic Latinos who seemed to be voting for HRC.
Then the same held true with folks of other races, particularly in Ohio and Rhode Island.
I have no real sense why this is and am deeply curious, so if you have any ideas, feel free to share. I know Barack has some Catholic support, of course. But that's the "ignored" place he's made less inroads, in following this race. Much more so than with any particular race or other religion, including most other Christian denominations, from what I've watched.
I'd absolutely love to turn it on its back side because I feel it's the biggest impediment in PA.

Really, though, I don't understand why he doesn't have a larger Catholic support than he does. In my experience, not everyone in my parish church supports the pro-life republican. I think we weigh the issues. In Santa Fe county, we are predominantly Catholic and predominantly democratic. Obama did win the caucus in SF county.

I know Hillary reels in Catholics well... and we certainly attract some. So disproportionate though. I actually had a Russian Orthodox Republican friend vote Obama this year.
They know Hillary is pro-life, as is Obama.
I lived up in Taos awhile... sure do know Santa Fe. Very similar, in some ways, to where I live. Although I live in the barrio, essentially, in NorCal. But surrounded by beautiful agricultural lands, and my neighborhood is 80% Latino (40% for the city, which is close to the size of Albuquerque). And Obama won here too.
You should look into Melissa's page. That page should be made into fliers that could be passed around PA to help some Catholics who might want to veer more toward Obama than Clinton find something they resonated with in there?

O.k., I went up to put on jammies and go to sleep, but saw the Mac on the dresser, and thought I'd check this post, and here you all were, with very thoughtful responses to my question. So at 11:54 pm Central, here it goes....
As a right-to-life Catholic (like Sen. Bob Casey!), I support Barack Obama because I think he has the best record of supporting a "culture of life" -- that is, respecting life in all its forms: He opposed the war in Iraq from the start; he is in favor of programs that not only encourage women to keep their babies, but supports pre-natal care, healthcare for children, and education for children (he wants the children of this world cared for); he opposed the death penalty in my home state of Illinois. This is not to say that I agree with his pro-choice stand, but I am willing to keep praying that one day, we will all be able to come together as a people on this issue -- one that I know Barack does not take lightly.
But as for other Catholic voters going more toward Senator Clinton -- that I do not understand. I could understand Catholics for McCain much more readily because of the Republican party's anti-abortion platform (my conservative Catholic mom is one). My only guess is that Catholics comprise a higher percentage of lower-income voters, which is currently a big part of Sen. Clinton's current base.
Now, I would love to hear more on this, but I MUST get to bed, so I can proof-read my second-grader's homework in 6 hours before school (yikes!). But if you'd all like to discuss this further, I will copy and post this in my personal blog and you can comment there too.
Night all. ;)

This is a wonderful conversation. I feel like we can come back to it over time. We need to figure out how to best pick up Catholics (and everyone) in PA.
This could be interesting.
In the Catholic Church here, they will make political announcements from the pulpit? I know "clergy" endorsed Obama in PA. Do they announce political stuff from pulpits? Because that could be a powerful place for Barack or his surrogates to forge alliances.
I've done it with march organizing. The main board I'm on is headed by an immigration attorney, who was permitted to speak at a Catholic Church to 1500 people from the pulpit. And they were like a block. They came to the march all together.

I'd never considered the socioeconomics of Catholics. It seems that more conservative Catholics who are less financially endowed are more attracted to Senator Clinton.
Are Catholics generally thought of as Republican? I didn't know that. The word "Catholic" triggers "JFK" for me immediately!
Interesting how little I know about Catholicism. Only a bit about Christianity in general. I could brush up. My grandmother is an evangelist, so I know a bit about that... and I KNOW Obama can do REALLY WELL there... strangely enough. Evangelicals seem to really like Barack, at least so far in my experience.

Good morning my intellectually stimulating friends!
Yeah, dare I say this among Democrats here, but JFK was not at all revered in my conservative, Irish Catholic (Republican) house in NY. (My Mom could not get over all of the Kennedy males' "extracurriculars," which she thought were very un-Catholic.)
And, in my personal experience, in the places I have lived (NY and Chicago), my Catholic friends were overwhelmingly Republican. This was also true at Notre Dame, where I went to college, and where 92% of the campus was Catholic at the time. The reason is the abortion issue.
And, SaSa, of all the Catholic churches I have been a member (and I attend Mass every Sunday), they have NEVER spoken about the political from the alter. Catholics are actually, I think, a lot more careful about the separation of church and state, at least at mass. (But maybe we DO have JFK to thank for that.)

I don't mean this as offensive to any Catholic; I was raised Roman Catholic myself and went through twelve years of parochial school. In that system, lo these many years, true intellectual creativity was often seen as arrogance, speaking your mind, advocating for doing things differently, changing the status quo, being different in the way you look at things, were all cause for censure. This was in the old days when the nuns ruled the roost. I sense some of this fear of standing out, by committing to the new, as being part of what we are seeing here.

I second that. I went thru similar experience when I was younger with the Catholic parochial education system. I want to believe that this is not the case generally at least in the US, but in Latin America, Asia and Africa, the stigma of that creativity/flexibility censure goes deep.
I think that it is part of the reason why Latino Catholics tend to "stay" with household name.
Any suggestion on how to approach this?
Peace

A lot of us have gotten those emails, I think :)
Because we're self-moderating.
I've been very active with the campaign and I've received one of those emails. For inferring that someone was a troll, which in retrospect, was the wrong thing to do. We need to not presuppose anything about one another and I was glad for that reminder.
Like you, I was concerned, but I contacted the blog owner and it was quickly (in a week or so, they're very busy at HQ seeing that Barack is elected) and amicably resolved.
Don't worry. Just make sure to direct your attention to the moderator who can assist better than we can on the board!

I am sorry you have been reported for during that, so I would like to suggest that 1. you separate your with more distance between each post 2. They have new post starting throughout the day, so perhaps you can post your information in each one of those new threads throughout the day. I am not sure why people are complaining, but to ensure they do not take away your profile try the two options I gave you. These postings are up and open 24/7 and you do not need to post them all in the same thread. I know you want to get your word out and that's good, but others come here for information and feels like they have to go through a lot of messages to find something that appeal to them. Again, I am sorry this has happened. I personally enjoyed seeing the name. Do not leave just worth within the system.

After the email warning I decided to do like you said and post one post in each blog (whenever I can). But then I posted duplicates accidentally today in this one blog. I don't want to clog the board and I want information too. I also think it's crucial that we not be ashamed to express our support. I want to break the stereotype that says white dudes will vote for McCain. Not all white dudes will vote for him. Many will vote for Obama but the media keeps suggesting that we won't. It's frustrating.

Keep talking to the folks around you (and us, too, of course). Sometimes all it takes to break stereotypes is for folks to see that it isn't universally true. When we express our support, people realize that NOT "all white men" or "all older women" are voting for McCain and Hillary.

Don't read more into it then it really is. I believe they are thing to tell the media that we are a rainbow of sun shine, you feel nothing but warmth and unity here, not the cold darkness of hatred because someone is different.

So far we’ve helped 36 people!
Mama For Obama has been sitting at the top of the list for a while, as you can see. She’s slowly meeting her goal. Is there anyone out there who can give the maximum $2300, or close to that? It’d be great to take her out already.
The Top Ten List:
1. Mama For Obama has been sitting up here for a while. Can anyone give the max donation of $2300? She needs $4491-$4476-$4471-$4461-$4351- $4326-$4276-$4256-$4241-$4191- $4166-$4141-$4116-$4106-$4096- $4071-$4046-$3996-$3971-$3951- $3926-$3876-$3861-$3836-$3586- $3576-$3481-$3456-$3431-$3421- $3396-$3346-$3261-$3036

2. Here is Lisa From L.A. She needs $880 more…make that $870-$865-$855-$805-$795-$780- $770-$610-$600-$570-$520-$420
Link
3. New To This has raised much of her $5,000 but still is lacking $1475-$1465-$1455-$1420-$1410- $1400-$1390-$1380-$1370-$1345- $1320-$1300
Link
4. Jill helped another Obama friend raise over $800. Now she needs help. Can we give her some? $1665-$1655-$1665-$1645-$1619- $1519-$1469 to go.
Link
5. Denise wrote, “A year ago I would have never imagined I'd be spending a Saturday making calls soliciting support for a political candidate. For that matter blogging, sign waving, or reading every word a health care plan… Can anyone can help out?” Well? $900-$875-$850-$740-$715-$680- $615-$605 to go.

6. Willie B writes: If one has done it so can you, if no one has done it that one can be you. He’s looking for $1000-$855-$845-$825-$810 -$760

7. Here’s Gigi, who’s fundraising on behalf of her grandson. Her fundraising goal is based on her family’s lucky number 27, as in $2700…make that $2660-$2598-$2558-$2523-$2498
Link
8. Here’s Dog Lover, who is fundraising $500 on behalf of Obama and in the memory of a close loved one they have lost. Can we help? $500-$385-$375-$365-$290-$230- $145

1) We shd circulate this and make this go viral.
2) This video is good; a couple of months ago there was another HRC video which was circulating on this blog which had slightly better audio and video quality minus the excerpts from the commentators----just HRC contradicting herself on Iraq on various occasions. I am going to look for that on YouTube.
Till then, let's forward this link everywhere--amongst people and MSM email addresses. Help make this go viral. spread it far and wide.

Former Indiana Rep. Lee Hamilton, the top Democrat on the Sept. 11 commission, is backing Barack Obama in an endorsement that could boost the presidential hopeful's national security standing, The Associated Press has learned.
Although Hamilton is not a Democratic superdelegate, his backing comes on the heels of several high-profile endorsements for Obama, who leads Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton in delegates for the party's nomination. Sens. Bob Casey Jr. of Pennsylvania and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota endorsed Obama in recent days.

Obama needs to aggressively bring up the NAFTA issue with Pennsylvania voters - and show how Hillary and Bill supported and passed it causing large scale job loss in OHIO and PA.
He needs to get a little more aggressive just like they are and start battering her so that he can close this race out quickly!

If this is you, here is your chance to contribute whatever you can spare, (as little as $5.00) will help us win the White House and return this country to the path that our founding fathers had envisioned and fought so hard to create, that our own fathers and grandfathers defended with their blood and that the current men and woman serving abroad deserve to come home to. A country with an agenda that is not mired in self made turmoil and devisive politics.

At least the "Tom" could have made up something original!! Don't know how it played in Philly, but for once, I'm glad the MSM seemed to ignore this mention, and consequently, Nutter. Guess he isn't as important as he thinks he is!!

I don't think we should be sending out that to Supers - I would rather that Barack handled the Supers.
I understand why you are suggesting it though, with HRCs camp alleging that Rev Wright will cause BO a problem in the General election.
I don't believe its true and when we win in the coming primaries, especially in the western states the argumenmt will not hold water.
Stop worrying, HRC is grasping at straws.
Yes we can!

Surely the SDs who are Wash. party insiders, know that there's a whole lot more dirt, conflicts of interest, questionable business dealings and donations, etc, (whew) that HRC has compared to the one story of Wright against Obama.
Recent polls show people got more and more fed up with it the more the media and HRC tried to keep it alive. I'm proud the majority of voters are more intelligent than the mSM and HRC give them credit for. Besides, it can always be argued that those were Rev. Wright's words; HRC's lies have all come straight out of her own mouth!!!!! No comparison if she's talking electability. Wright will only be a factor if the SDs allow her to keep harping on it instead of showing it's a non-issue by getting behind BHO once he's the nominee. Plus, Mccain, altho he distanced himself, can't really talk (or have his 527s do it for him) since he had Hagee and Parsley!
BHO's movement is too great across too many groups that won't allow this to keep them from voting for him!

A bigger problem for HRC is credibility. We already have a lying president and her credibility or lack there makes her unelectable. We have to focus on getting this across. This is a huge issue. Her lies are not from a third person but from the Senator's own mouth, not once, not twice but several times and each time the story became more graphic. You know it still bugs me that Andrea Mitchell was on that plane and knew that she was lying and said NOTHING. What kind of integrity is that? Wow.

This might sound like a stupid request, but the first time I saw the Husseins sprinkled around this blog, I wondered why so many middle easterners were supporting Obama. It took me a while to figure out what was going on. It might take others a while too. So, as politically incorrect as it might sound, I hesitantly make the suggestion that it might be time to take away the Hussein middle names, if not so many people are doing it anymore.

I wish you could have been here the day it started, when everyone spontaneously added it; it was touching & powerful as it came on the heels of our candidate being battered by the name-calling.

tracy, i chose the name hussein because im glad that we finally have a candidate who doesnt only represent americans with typical "american" names, but ALL americans.
see, my first and middle names are african, and most people dont pronounce them right. (dara tene which means beautiful love in SOME african language and im not even sure of which one). and i feel that barack hussein obama represents me for the first time in my life. i cant tell you how disenfranchised i have felt in my life when everywhere i go i see personalized pencils, keychains, backpacks, everything with names other than mine, lisa, diana, stacy, etc. i cant tell you how lonely that has felt for me. (no representation.)
and now, finally, FINALLY theres a man running for president of these united states who has a name that is like mine. so i understand about the importance of names and why we shouldnt be ashamed of ours. no one should. our names came from a good place, all of us. (for instance my parents named me "beautiful love" because they were in what they describe as the most loving phase of their marriage during the time of my conception and birth.)
anyway, speaking of respect for names, thats why i was kinda upset with hillary during that debate when tim russert asked her the name of the new president of russia snd she was like, "demetri medye whatever." see with my history of having a name thats not your typical average "american" name, i understand how important it is to show the respect of saying someone's name the right way. thats just simply respect and thats something that i think that barack can appreciate, people of all cultures with names that may sound different to us americans.
hillary doesnt get that. barack does.
thats my two cents. sorry for the long post.

3. I am SO glad you caught that. I have told people that Hc "whatevered" Mediedev and no one even believes me! He is on my long list of people she has managed to offend during her campaign.
4. I love your name. I work in retail, and every day I see names and get to try to pronounce them when we page people. I love it when I get it right. Tonight, it was a lady named "Enda". She says she gets called "Edna" a lot, which was her mom's name...

There are names that used to seem odd, like Lakesha and Tiara, that are pretty much commonplace now (in Texas, anyway). We may need to switch to Abdul or Mohammad next, but what the heck?

2. i am glad that now "barack" is becoming one of the more popular baby names. i think that can be a new beginning. its not cool that we who are supposed to be a melting pot, only represent certain segments of society. thats what i love about barack. im not for a separation of parts of society. im for inclusion of all.
3. yes, she has been so offensive to so many and so many people havent caught it. (im glad you and i did.) i wish i could do an ad on tv just showcasing her various offenses, but nah, that would just stoke the fires and she would claim that everyone's unfairly against her and then that would rally her supporters behind her even more. oh well at least we see it. and probably a lot of other obamanites, too. I've got a dozen dogs, all rescues from the local shelter.
I love the idea of shelter dogs for the White House.
These dogs, IMO, are very special guardian angels sent down to help us learn how to love. One or more of them in the White House would be just perfect.

I have written a blog about wanting the Obamas to adopt a homeless puppy or dog also! I actually think they should get two. Dogs are pack animals and are happy with a fuzzy friend when the people in the family are busy doing those silly people things.
I think it would be a great project for the kids to take on and they could speak for the wonderful pets begging for a home.
I probably shouldn't admit this, but I have 7 pets, all of which were homeless from a shelter or strays that always seem to find my yard and know there is a sucker living there. They are all precious, loving little guys who really appreciate a home after being out on the streets hungry, wet, and cold.
I would love for the girls to adopt from a shelter, or a rescue organization if they want a specific breed. There are some beautiful full-breed dogs in shelters also. That Pedigree dog food commercial with the dog in the shelter who doesn't understand why he is there gets me every time.

I have written Senator Obama and asked him to consider this. It is the only thing I personally would ever ask, that he adopt not only a shelter pet, but a pit mix. Big black dogs are the most discriminated-against of all.
I've been in rescue for over 15 years. Seven is not a big number. The main thing is being able to keep them healthy and happy. We have BAD overpopulation issues in Texas, partly because of the warmer weather, and also there is lack of education and general poverty. Limiting number of pets never works.
Did you guys know that of the 50 dogs seized in the Micheal whatever-his-name-is thing, only one had to be put down, and the rest are in homes?

Nothing wrong with seven pets, that's the same as we have gracing us with their presence in the house and they're all from rescue organizations also. Four parrots (three macaws and a conure), two dogs (totalling 220 pounds), and a cat all keeping us company here.

Senator Clinton was being interviewed about the negativity between both campaigns.
1st of all she was ‘trying’ to talk all PEACEFUL - LIKE, as if she was a unifier all of a sudden... She was repeating what Senator Obama has been saying for weeks.FOLLOWING again...
Let me ask, did anyone hear anything close to Senator Obama saying that he was TIRED of campaigning?
She said, “Senator Obama said he was TIRED.” That ‘his’ supporters were saying that she should quit, that they wanted it to be over.
NO MENTION of all the other people hinting/telling her to step down – not even those within her own organization.
She’s trying to paint some weird picture of herself as the one, who is stronger, as if she has ‘worn’ Senator Obama down.
There was no mention of her campaign and the devious crap they automatically spit to the media outlets – daily!
She re-stated her ‘behind the scenes’ opposition to NAFTA, even had one of her puppets speaking on her behalf; If anyone is trying to say that she was for the agreement, they are trying to hang the issue around the wrong neck.’ Meaning that it was Prez. Clinton - not the 1st Lady who backed the agreement.
Again, over the years she had spoken in favor of the agreement. Now she wants voters to BELIEVE, that no matter what she said in public, it’s the behind the scenes, the INVISIBLE WORK that counts and makes her worthy of the White House.
SAY ANYTHING…again
How’s about I go with what I have read and heard from her mouth as reason enough NOT to give her my vote.
She was asked if there were other issues that she disagreed with her husband on…she said “Yes”….but didn’t give details.
This leaves her open – in case another issue comes up, she can AGAIN claim that she was in opposition – behind the scenes.
Oh, she needs to leave the funny stuff to SNL, as usual, her timing is way off.

Proficiency in sports is acquired by muscle repetition. If Obama is a good basketball player (I hear he is) then he could learn bowling very quickly. His form really didn't look that bad. He just doesn't understand how a pendulum works... it's not rocket science. :-)
I would take Obama anyday over Hillary in a game of bowling. With a little instruction he'll beat the pants off her.

For that much darned money... I mean, she has a fashion coordinator... ooooh, I won't talk about it. BUT MAN, SHE PRETENDS SHE IS FROM NY. That pretty much obligates her to be chic...
Barack puts on a rumpled suit and blue shirt and he looks like Fred Astaire. How's that work out? I can't even talk about the mastery of his ties. Forever will I remember the true beauty of Barack Obama's policies... and ties.

Pantsuits: Who wears those polyester looking pantsuits in every Caribbean color? Mostly middle-aged and older white women!! (Please, I'm not being racist; I worked with a lot of them and live in a predominantly white neighborhood). This is the way a lot of them dress, so it's more of HRC's fake front to say, "See, I'm just like you".
If only they knew she's worth about $56M and together with Bill, about $85M!!! Which would tell them she's not going to do a thing for them if she could get elected! A lot of them buy this act, tho, and that's why they're so blind to the truth. They have the nerve to talk about a "glass ceiling". HRC broke thru that in Arkansas when she took over Bill's governship!! It's only the rest of us who truly have to contend with a glass ceiling (we're not married to a former prez and actually have to work for a living!) Well, hopefully, for all our sakes, these women won't ever find out that HRC is a republican who is making money hand over fist and cares for no one unless they're filthy rich!!

Lee falls into the Colin Powell category for me, personally. Great American patriots who let us down when our country was in greatest peril. These guys could have used their names and status to prevent some serious misdeeds and disaster but were completely overwhelmed by the Machine that controls them. I'm trying to forgive them both, since they would be great advisers for Obama, and I might not have done much better myself, but it's tough. You know?

The anticipation was killing me, I couldn't sit still during all the other speeches, pacing and blogging, I think. Then I searched for, downloaded and used images from the parade and the JJ Dinner in my Obama videos. Iowa has such a special place in my heart, just as I'm sure it does in Barack's also.

You guys really know how to do it up in Iowa!
Seriously, when the MI and FL stuff first flared up I was giving some thought to Iowa and NH's spots.
I came to a couple conclusions. One, that the size of the states really allows the candidates to be known to just about everybody (given the long time they spend there!). But also, the history of political involvement in the nominating process in these states is such that it does give you a strong reference to be the ones to do the initial sizing up of the candidates (we'll just discount NH screwups this year for the benefit of these statements!)
I remember reading in January how some were recommending rotating which states voted early each year. I thought then, and feel even more strongly now, that that should not happen. To thrust this important task into a new state each year would not garner the same level of involvement nor the same commitment/sense of responsibility to the task.
WE LOVE IOWA!

I remember knocking on my first door in August 2007. No one even knew who he was here in Iowa. People said it was too early to start talking politics. Then I dislocated my ankle just before Barack came to Luther college, but I went anyway. I went to every event and shook his hand 3 times, I talked to him once and to have him look in your eyes. You can feel the truth in there. You feel it to your core. This is the real deal. To hear him speek, it is like the world is right for that moment. (yeah I know, the kool-aid is kicking in) But it was the most inspiring thing to me. My children there. Listening. I kept looking at them, in my mind knowing they will always remember this. Like the people watching JFK or MLK. wow, makes me cry now....

I will never forget my first door in Iowa. Never. I am so grateful to have been able to be a part of Iowa before the caucus. I know this will sound dumb, but sometimes I think "we'll always have Iowa". The phrasing is a half-joke with myself, but the sentiment is serious.
Barack has done a great thing here, waking all of us from our belief that we were stuck with our world as it was. And Iowa was amazing. I will never forget listening to Barack's victory speech at HQ with so many other people.

That was a fun night. I remember getting out of our caucus and quickly checked CNN on my phone and Obama was already the projected winner. We raced downtown to get to the victory speech. And there were groups of Obama supporters all over the place chanting and marching and driving by honking. (Along with large groups of Ron Paul supporters.)
It was more like Obama had won the general or had won by 80%.
Anyway, it was all rather exciting.

BE YOURSELF.

You have a good heart.
NEVER say anything bad about Clinton.
Smile.

I always start out with.
Hi there my name is Laura, I know everyone loves people working with politics to come to thier doors! That is why I am here! I was wondering if you are planning on voting in this primary?..................if they say yes, then I say. Great, so many people are coming out, it is great to hear that you are involved. Do you have any questions? What is the most important to you in this election? Health care? Economy? Education? (bring your brain with you, know your info. on where Barack stands on these things, also know talking points from Clinton on where they differ) Print out 4-5 of each of the pages from the "issues" section on these things to give out or to look over while you are out) Let them answer and have your answer ready. I say, you are not alone in your thoughts, a lot of your neighbors are feeling the same way. (if they say healthcare) I might say something like, I am voting for Barack because of his stance on healthcare. I believe that having a lower cost will encourage everyone to get healthcare and will help us become a healthier nation. Barack does not mandate (force) people to buy health care. He feels that this will make it easier to get his plan passed in the house and maybe one day move on to universal health care. Small steps. ect....

I find that once you have sincerely introduced yourself it is not hard. Sometimes, people are embarrassed to tell you their concerns or objections. My co-workers, who I have worked with daily for over two years, have been shy when asking about Obama. One had heard a horrible rumor, that was so horrible she did not want to say it out loud, but somehow she half-believed it. (the black-only church rumor)I listened and took her concerns seriously and was able to email her all the answers she needed.
It's okay to say, there's a lot of stuff on the internet; do you have any questions?

There was an Obama office right downtown and I got my first bumper stickers and buttons there, on a hot-as-hell but gloriously colorful, sunny day (right after wandering the Decorah Prairie and visiting the fabulous Willow Glen nursery. :-).
We then had a great time driving our Obama car all the way to Philly in August, to take my daughter to her first day of college. I saw a couple of other Obama cars along the route, but also my first "Hillary"--it whizzed past in a speeding van on the PA turnpike.

Hillary Clinton spent some very precious campaign time comparing herself to Rocky Balboa and saying that it is important for her to continue running up the stairs to the threshold of victory. Then she goes ahead and challenges Barack Obama to a bowling game...what substance, what attention to issues ....Wow.....there was dead silence in the crowd and you could hear a pin drop.
I hate to get personal but she is really running out of steam and INSTEAD OF RELEASING HER TAX RETURNS AND PAYING THE SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS OF THE VENUES SHE RENTED she is using old outdated references and weak wimpy words to lose the interest of the crowds so carefully positioned to hear her. The people looked pretty miserable and kind of stared at each other.
Also, as Barack's numbers increased in the lead against Schlocky Balboa incarnate the news media called for her to step up her vitriol as the only way to win. Wow - again, I know today was April 1st but if she listens to this advice she is just a puppet who PROBABLY DOESN'T REALIZE THAT JOHN MC CAIN'S NUMBERS ONLY GO UP WHEN HILLARY ATTACKS BARACK AND HE HAS TO ANSWER BACK. THE VOTING PUBLIC IS TIRED OF THE FIGHTING BACK AND FORTH.
Hillary should not quit this campaign because anyone tells her to - she should quit because HER CAMPAIGN is becoming a travesty and even though everyone protests, she is becoming a caricature. You know damn well that all the political cartoons are going to have her dressed in trunks and punching gloves and with a few black eyes or whatever which she brought upon herself.
HILLARY, GATHER UP WHAT DIGNITY YOU HAVE LEFT AND LEAVE. WHEN YOU LOOK IN THE MIRROR AND REALLY SEARCH YOURSELF YOU KNOW THAT YOU ARE SMART ENOUGH TO SEE WHAT IS HAPPENING. YOU DO NOT NEED THIS FURTHER EMBARASSMENT AND RIDICULE.

I *really* think Hillary and Bill want this so desperately that they cannot see how foolish she looks. They are blinded by their own ambition.
Or maybe they do see it, and it's sort of a double or nothing thing. They see that their stature is diminished and winning is their only chance of getting that back.
Either way, it's very sad.

So, tonight, I watch John McCain on Letterman. I admire the man, I really do. I don't want him to be our President, but he's not a bad guy.
And he was calm and cool and respectful, and he let everyone know he wants to run a respectful campaign with no mud. He may as well have said, "Hillary is a loser."
He also said some very sensible things and side-by-side with her, he looks like VP material all of a sudden.
Let's be careful not to fall into the trap that has sucked HC and her campaigners down. Let's be cool. Let's be nice. Because we are right, we can be extra-polite.
Once Barack and McCain go up against each other, we will hear issues discussed as we never have before outside of a college classroom.

The party elitist who thought she could roll this primary race, take a holiday on fund raising and generally look at anyone with disdain that doesn't hold with her presumed superior candidacy?
Or the one who came out of nowhere, was given no shot and worked his way county by county, state by state, went above and beyond to raise funds nobody thought he could and has gone toe to toe with the party's heavy weight family with the only way he'll lose the fight is on a decision by judges?

How completely appalling that Howard Ickes, Clinton's advisor, is using the fear and negativism of the standard GOP meme to SCARE superdelegates.
I cannot imagine what a negative laundry list regarding Senator Clinton, fine-tuned for Superdelegate ears, might look like... short of the Unabridged Version of "War And Peace."
Really, this is the politics of old and of fear. Is this truly motivating to Superdelegates to restrain their endorsements, or does it not have the potential for backlash against Hillary Clinton, in Barack's ultimate favor... much as it has had on the American Public.
Either way, I find a Democrat using this strategy to just be extremely disturbing.
Pandering to social anxieties has never historically worked, and usually only increases revolt and a sense of oppression against the fear-mongerers.
I do hope Emanuel Cleaver decides to join our positive, beautiful, and inspiring campaign. As a pastor, he ought to respect those who hope instead of doubt, those who love instead of back-bite.

I'm fired up!
Didn't finish my city council speech about free speech (well, wanted to make it... perfect, complete with examples, empathy, pathos, allegory and a solution...needs work)... found out the proposal is on the 15th. So, I'm going to write two speeches. My boyfriend spoke tonight and sort of briefed them on assessment: a march is a right not a privelige and to overrule it is unconstitutional.
I'm going to meander into the moral implications of how if they pursue it, they are opening the city up to mass civil unrest as well as marginalizing the voices of the poor, which are often those of minorities here. Which is illegal. And then I'm going to tie it the conflation of a parade with a protest march (their city code does this and I am going to ask them to amend this since it is a source of the problem), which serve two separate functions, one of which is not entertainment but the right to express grievance at a governmental system that has failed to hear or assuage the tensions of its constituency. I'll end it with... I myself am someone that would fall into that category, so I do hope that you've been listening keenly to my words.
blah blah...
and surgery put off until the 10th, wooohooo!

Well, it looks to me that Hillary and Bill are HUGE Barack Obama supporters!
This is what they are doing. They are bringing up every little thing that the republicans will bring up in the primary. They are telling lies that are very easily verifiable and debunked, they are meeting with republican newspapers, they are fully vetting Obama. When the time for the smear campaign happens against Obama in the fall...everyone will be saying to the stories of Rev. Wright.."Oh yeah, I already heard about that guy, old news" and as to him being Muslim "Oh yeah, I heard about that too..." and the flag pin thing "yeah, yeah...booooooorrrring" "dont ya got anything else??
So as I see it. They are true democrats. They are lying out all thier dirty laundry, thier tactics you see are to get Obama the presidency! They LOVE Barack just like us. They are proving to be the best people in the world for us. I thank them. I know it has been hard for us. But really, they are doing us the biggest service in the world!
Thank you Bill and Hillary for doing to Obama what the republicans would have done in the fall. Thank you for taking the hits on the Bosnia trip, and for making racial and sexist statements that could be taken out of context. Thank you for supporting the strongest candidate for president. Now that I see what you are doing. It makes me proud!

Laura,
Your comment is powerful for me. I have been so stressed out for two weeks, my husband thinks I am crazy. I am gonna relax now.
Thank You so much for pointing this out to me.
I LOVE THIS MOVEMENT!

No way. I don't buy that Clintons would be that un-selfish. However, I do agree with you that their attacks have benefited Obama. Imagine the damage if the Pastor issue had not come out until October!!! I even think our own camp maybe behind its early release (time it perfectly to minimize damage). This will all be old news by November. Also, as a result of this conflict with Hillary, Obama is becoming a better / more confident general election candidate.

i think her post was noting the irony of it all. it is VERY funny that everything they've tried to do to him has ultimately strengthened his support. not that they planned it that way (we know that isn't the case), but it really is something how life works. how god works.
