Our campaign has begun airing four new television ads in Pennsylvania.
In
Quiet
, which began airing yesterday, Barack stresses Washington’s failure to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and reveals his willingness to take on tough issues in front of challenging audiences—like telling automakers that as President he won’t stand for them blocking higher fuel standards for our cars.
Maya
, which begins today, features Barack’s sister, grandmother, and wife discussing the values that he will bring to the White House and his commitment to creating a world in which every child has the same opportunities that his daughters have.
One Voice
, which begins today, highlights Barack’s belief that we are capable of coming together as a country to tackle our greatest challenges and encourages every American to take ownership of the political process.
In
Mother
, which begins today, Barack recounts how his mother was burdened by a failing health care system as she battled cancer during the last few months of her life. He then discusses his deeply personal commitment to changing Washington and reforming our nation’s health care system. Obama’s universal health care plan will cover every American and cut health care costs for the typical family by $2,500 per year.

A new campaign line suggestion
A VOTE FOR HILLARY IS A VOTE FOR MCCAIN
A VOTE FOR HILLARY IS A VOTE FOR JOHN MCCAIN
If Hillary wins Pennsylvania, the race will prolong further. The more the race lasts, the harder it gets to beat John McCain in November.
There’s even some talk about a brokered convention. A bloody fight on the convention floor = McCain will be the next president.
This is not propaganda. This is the truth. People in Pennsylvania should hear that loud and clear.
DAVID AXELROD. Get going with this.
DAVID AXELROD. Start a conference call and start throwing this bomb.
A VOTE FOR HILLARY IS A VOTE FOR JOHN MCCAIN.

I like the Mother ad. But perhaps I'm on the margin. I survived cancer and didn't have health insurance at the time (17 yrs ago). I can REALLY empathize with the health care issues.
Oddly, I'm not necessarily for 100% health care coverage. I believe catastrophic health care coverage are the most desperate (and heart-breaking) situations. Also, I couldn't qualify for Medicaid because I was above their income maximums. I could have "saved" money by not working because Medicare would have covered more of my medical costs than I could by working a part time job. Unfortunately, Medicaid wouldn't pay my rent or food so I kept working. Perhaps there were other resources for me which I didn't research sufficiently, but it seemed the whole structure of it was very poor.

Barack Obama will win...God will take care of Hillary Clinton...our movement and Barack's campaign is not based a smear and dropping bombs...
Hillary Clinton wants a blood bath...because that is who she is...every day many people are seeing it...we cannot fear Clinton and McCain...my faith in God tells to "fear not"...
This country will continue to drop...drop....drop...just as long as Bush is in office...that will hurt McCain without Barack doing one thing...Clinton's tongue and behavior will bury her...
Clinton's followers will really seek McCain if they believe that Barack is abusing her...or kicking her when she is down....so he cannot do it...McCain is a 71 year old man with a bad memory problem already...he will start to stumble when the pressure is on....
Barack should be true....stay focused...and let people all over this country know who he is and what he stands for....
Barack has produced positive results so far...I believe that he should stay on point....

I really like the Maya ad.
It shows the diversity of Barack's family and at the same time allows the voting public to identify with one or more of the people in that family. It illustrates not just the love and trust they have in Barack, the brother, the grandson, the husband and the father, but also their faith in him to bring about a better future for all of America's children.
I found it very moving!

Here we are in the middle of a war that has lasted 5years.Costed us time we could have used to build our schools and to fix our social security and health care issues and the money that would have paid for it all. Those who are alive now and for some who are yet to be born the effects will be felt good or bad.The prospect is either we stay in Iraq for an undetermined amount of time or we have an awakening to my next point. How long did it take us to get to the where we are today in our own county (U.S.A)that we would allow blacks or women to vote? How long and bloody was our battle to end slavery and accept every other person as equal citizens? This country (U.S.A)the country that I am proud to say I was born and raised in,allows history to be forgotten quickly.Or somehow we choose to place it in a catagory of less concern or importance when compared to other excisting factors. One only has to look at our own history to see how horrific the fight is for freedom and equality. Now imagine that fight X 10 and you have Iraq where people are poorer and where the fight over religion and ethnic backrounds has been going on for hundreds and hundreds of years. The same kinds of problems we had to face to get to where we are now.Barack understands as I do we are all linked together as MLk said we go up together or we go down together.I support Mr.Obama for president because of how he has conducted himself and his past deeds. If you needed something to put you over the top though think of the message it would send to the Iraq people with a half black half white president who has been raised both in indonessia and Hawai with ties to Africa through his relatives and has been blessed to have had the chance to to thrive in the U.S.A guiding our efforts in their country(Iraq). So here we are ready to make a decision of which direction we would like go move.Obama has put out a plan to be out of Iraq in about 2 years that would be 7 years of war. With some luck his backround and willingness to talk to people who dont agree with everything he does and our nation backing him Iraqies have a chance.

Clinton Campaign Owes UC Davis Money
Campus May Turn Debt Over To Collection Agency
Reporting: Steve Large
DAVIS (CBS13) ― Bill Clinton may have charmed the crowd at UC Davis in January, when 7500 people showed up to see him, but charm has not covered the Clinton campaign bill.
The University of California in Davis is ready to take the Clinton presidential campaign to a collection agency if they do not pay back the thousands of dollars they are still owed.
Here's a breakdown of expenses:
- The UC Davis Marching Band cost $500.
- Cleanup services after the rally cost $250.
- UC Davis Police officers didn't come as cheap. The security bill is more than $5,600.
"I'm more than willing to be held accountable for it, because that's the way life is," Hillary Clinton said to a Montana crowd on Monday. There is no word whether she'll apply that philosophy here, or if she even knows about the outstanding debt.
Her Sacramento campaign office closed its doors after Super Tuesday, and her campaign spokespeople didn't return my calls.
UC Davis is planning to put its final bill out this week, and if the debt has not been settled within a month, they are going to turn the matter over to a collection agency.

In June 2005, Giustra provided his luxurious MD-87 jet for Clinton to make speeches in Mexico, Colombia, Chile and Brazil. According to Bloomberg News, the tour earned Clinton $800,000 in personal income. Giustra "has since put his plane at Clinton's disposal at least a dozen times to raise money for charity, his wife's presidential campaign or himself," Bloomberg reported.
American law does not permit Giustra, as a Canadian, to contribute directly to Hillary Clinton's campaign. Whether providing his plane to raise campaign money counts as a contribution, I leave to the legal eagles.
A far more telling payoff involved Colombia, which has long faced international condemnation for its well-documented violations of labor and other human rights. In the oval office and after, Bill Clinton never let this get in his way, steadfastly backing a free trade agreement with the country along with a $3 billion "Plan Colombia" to fight drug traffickers and guerrillas. As he publicly told Colombian President Alvaro Uribe and others in Bogota, he was "absolutely convinced that it was vital to American interests that Colombia succeed" against the left-wing narcotraficantes.
In September 2005, Clinton hosted "a philanthropic event" at which one of his aides arranged for Giustra to meet Uribe. According to The Wall Street Journal, the two men sat in the hallway speaking for about ten minutes. A Clinton aide later told Giustra the meeting had gone well.
Giustra wanted Colombian oil. He was working with a Canadian group that subsequently paid more than $250 million to operate oil fields in conjunction with Colombia's state-owned petroleum company. Giustra's associates - now operating as Pacific Rubiales Energy Corp. - also signed an oil pipeline deal and was invited to do further oil-development work in Colombia, the Journal reported."

Boxer's daughter married HRC's brother. Boxer did however make a point of waiting to endorse who ever won the pop vote in CA, which did go to Clinton even though the City of SF and the majority of the Bay Area went to Barack. And for what it's worth, despite Cliton's talk about winning all the big states, CA will go Obama in the GE in a heart beat. He would have taken CA if the primary had been held later.

Baghdad Orders Lockdown As Petraeus Testifies
Unauthorized vehicles will be banned in Baghdad from 5 a.m. to midnight on Wednesday, the fifth anniversary of the city's capture by U.S. troops, the AP reports.
The decision by the Iraqi military command for Baghdad was announced on Iraqi state TV.
Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr is threatening to lift a seven-month freeze on his Mahdi Army militia if the Iraqi government does not halt attacks on his followers or set a timetable for a U.S. withdrawal.

By
Vee
Apr 8th 2008 at 5:06 pm EDT
My bestfriend (Tammy) & her daughter (Tara) came for vacation & are staying with us this week.
A year ago Tara (9th grader), was ecstatic that HRC ran for president she couldn’t contain herself. She’s active & paid attention to the election, watched the news & c-span for rallies & town halls (she’s ONLY 14). Tammy asked for my support in her voting for HRC on Feb. 5 on Tara’s behalf. I respected her for that & gave my FULL support. I’ve never said one negative word re: HRC in our interactions, but I didn’t shy from sharing with them my volunteering experiences for Obama. This much we know that no election will ever break friendship.
Well, yesterday & while watching Hardball - in the middle of discussing Mark Penn, Tara yelled at my TV, blurted out:
“Hillary is NOT a FIGHTER, SHE’S A BULLY!! A fighter is somebody who will do his/her best by the rule to win. A bully cheats & damns the rule so long as he/she wins. That’s what HRC is – A BULLY! The media is a bunch of BS I’m sick of it, doesn’t care about doing the right thing! I’ve seen it everyday at school, we try soo hard to rid of bullying, be brave reporting it to the office, if student bully student/ teacher bully student, they risk being expelled, but we have a presidential candidate bully her way to the White House and they call her a fighter? Give Me A Break!”
Then she turned to Tammy & said (paraphrasing) “Mom, I gave her many chances, I was so proud when HRC announced she’s running. But, after the split personalities, Michigan/Florida flip flop, Ohio/Bosnia lies, now this Mark Penn thing? I’M DONE!! I’ve given her so many chances to fix her mistakes the same way you’ve given me chances to fix mine. My friends & I’ll be paying for HER mistakes if SHE’S the president. I’m DONE with her!”
You should’ve seen Tammy’s & my expressions, our jaws dropped in awe. Tammy lost it & cried! Couldn’t belief that her 15 year old thinks that deeply about candidates & their impact to her generation. Although CA already voted in the primary, now they’ll volunteer for Obama to make sure he’s the Democratic party nominee. WHAT A DAY!
I hope HRC keeps it up. She’s great at digging her own hole.

:-) I wish I can share with you her frustration word for word. I had to paraphrase due to the 400 words limit. It's intense & funny at the same time watching Tara pointing her finger at the TV as if talking to Chris Matthews & giving him a piece of her mind.
At the end, Tammy was crying, I was holding my laugh, & Tara said with a blank expression "Mom, are you crying? Why? Do you need a glass of water?" I LOST IT after that & just laughed out loud. The irony was just too much.

I watched the news one day in shock as they reffered to an 8yr-old black child who'd been shot to death by poilce as a "man". YES! I'm not kidding, the headline said "Man shot...."
IN ORDER TO DE-SENSITIZE THE VIEWING PUBLIC to the horror of killing a child, they reffered to him REPEATEDLY as a man, and in the same newscast, stated he was 8!..and oh they did mention he was "African-American". I'D NEVER BEEN SO HORRIFIED IN MY LIFE.

We need Obama to win.
Keep this story going.
I've spent 2 hours emailing it everywhere I can think of. Could use help sending it to PA papers and unions in the 3 upcoming states.
It says that Hillary Clinton directly financially benefits from the dead bodies of Columbian laborers. Well, it does not say that, it says that Bill Clinton made almost a million dollars and is directly involved in the Columbia deal that Hillary demoted Mark Penn over. However, how can she deny that she made and will still make money on this deal? She can denounce it all she wants, but she's still using this money to purchase her pantsuits. And this money comes, in part, from 300 dead laborers who tried to unionize in Columbia.
Mark Penn is, at best, a distraction from this fact.
I find that upsetting.

A while ago she told me that her Mom was undecided for who to vote for in PA's primary.. my friend wasn't very confident that she could convince her mom to vote for Obama, but after his speech in Philadelphia on race in America- she's voting OBAMA!!
heck yes, my friends! This is what I'm talking about! That speech really demonstrated his metal, his ability to inspire, to stand up and speak his voice in order to represent the citizens of America!

I'm crying after watching all of the new ads. They are POWERFUL spots, especially when you see them all and hear the narrative. I worked for many years (12 yikes!) several of the top Advertising Agencies and from my experience I'd say that THESE commercials can turn the tide in PA. With the amount of $$ he has behind these ads he'll come up in the polls. Everyone in PA will get to know Barack like we do.
One Voice is my favorite ad. That rocks! The former ad executive in me really wonders how they're going to stagger the ads with some Strategery. I'd love to hear if they're going perhaps run the first two ads and then rotate the really powerful One Voice and Mother.

There were no specifics on the route to the end game so the bars could keep shifting forever.
The end game. Is it a surge has worked moment - now -give them a few interim deadlines and it might focus minds.
... or a perfect scenario of democratic government working in sync in perfect harmony with Iraqi institutions, people and neighbours. Unsurprisingly they couldn't answer his question.

Bill Clinton visits Puerto Rico |
Report to Admin
By
Carlos from Carolina, PR
Apr 8th 2008 at 5:35 pm EDT
Hillary Clinton has News from Puerto Rico.
Her husband must have been shocked by the poor people support in his rallies despite the publicity, hundreds instead of thousands showed up!
Both on radio and TV, puertorricans from all society groups have critized how a Former President who, during his mandate, canceled the section 936 of Internal Revenue Code (benefits to pharmaceutical and industrial companies established in the island) , had come asking for money for his wife's campaign when
100,000 direct and indirect jobs were lost and went to foreign countries, and our economy worsened.
His rallies were protested, people were screaming the name Monica, other were screaming against the War that his wife voted for (a 29 years old puertorrican captain died yesterday in Irak victim of a bomb, 69 puertorricans have died so far), others were screaming confronting him with the 936 issue.
The press is saying that intead of the $350,000.00 officially mentioned, he received 500,000.00 but of course and ironically from the "big interests" and Industrials.
People on the media complain because he did not allow any contact from Puertorrican Press.
The public endorsements from Political figures from different parties in the island, even Obamacans have increased.
From what I have seen and heard today, I think Obama will win a Hispanic Territory on June 1st and that will be Puerto Rico.

I DID NOT TYPE THIS -- Credit goes to Ellicat at DailyKOS, but this is a transcript of Obama's comments:
thanks them, and says our troops are bearing the largest burden.
in the parade of horribles that you have outlined, at the center is A/Q in Iraq, and Iran. to AQI, they were not there before we went in, were there last year and are there now. Should we be successful in Mosul... assuming that in the narrow military effort we are successful, will there be a time when AQI could reconstitute itself?
P: Iraqi forces without (our help could probably handle it).
O: I want to sharpen the question. If one criteria is to ensure AQ doesn't have a base in Iraq..what metric measures it?
P: if you can keep chipping away at them.. over time, and we are reaching this in other areas (Anbar), that's what we want to try to achieve in the different areas.
O: I want to be clear. we don't anticipate that there will never be some group(s) that have sympathy to AQ. We just don't want (AQ to have a base, yes?)
P: yes
O: SOI and other groups have allied with us. there's been talk of integrating them. 20-30% being integrated into Iraq security forces; this has not been achieved. (will they be treated fairly..)
P: ongoing; well over 20K who have been integrated into forces or other gov. positions. thousands of others are being worked into. at the beginning, there was understandable suspicion. The process is moving, its not easy, takes a lot of nudging.
---
O: Iran. its true to say we won't eliminate all influences of Iran in Iraq. can you define what would be a fair set of circumstances of relations between Iran and Iraq that would make us comfortable to draw down troops?
Crocker: we have no problem with a relationship. the problem is backing of extremist groups, sending ammo, etc.
O: do we feel confident that the gov. is directing this aid, or are they just tolerating it?
C: there is no doubt that the Quds force - this is a conscious policy.
O: Boxer's point; Iran's gov. as assisted these groups that are doing harm to security forces - then why are they being welcomed?

O: Boxer's point; Iran's gov. as assisted these groups that are doing harm to security forces - then why are they being welcomed?
C: trying to take steps to tighten the border. In relation to Ahmedinajad's(sp) visit..what we have seen since then, there is a spot light on the influence.
O: we all have the greatest interest in a successful resolution in Iraq. all of us do. I believe that the original decision was a massive strategic blunder. AQI is a direct result of the decision. You are cleaning up the mess afterwards.
the surge has reduced violence nad provided breathing room, but that room hasn't been taken. complicated political situation there. we are more likely to resolve it if we are applying increased pressure in a measured way. this includes a timetable for withdrawal and a diplomatic surge that includes Iran. If Maliki can tolerate, we should be talking with them as well.
our resources are finite. there's a bipartisan consensus. military is overstretched. money spending is hemorrhaging our budget. Afghanistan. when you have finite resources, you have to define goals tightly and modestly. If we were able to have status quo without our troops, is that the definition of success? if we have current status quo and troops were down to 30K, (is that sufficient)?
C: I can't imagine the current status quo being sustainable with that precipitous drawdown.
O: that's not the question. the definition of success is so high, no traces of AQ and no reconstitution, highly effective gov., functioning democracy, no Iran influence - that portends the possibility of us staying 20-30 years.
If status quo, no huge outbreaks ofviolence, corruption but the country is struggling along, achievable goal with a timegrame.
we can't get a clear answer.
C: this is hard and complicated. when Iraq gets to the point that it can carry forward further development w/o commitment of our forces, they and we would have a fair certitude that they can go forward themselves without the danger of having it slip away from them, then our profile diminishes remarkedly, but that's not where we are now.

I don't know how much of the US press - or electorate - will 'get' this. But the European press will, I think, and the wider world, too.
Gobama!
also - while we're on foreign affairs ... I don't suppose Obama could make some statement re Zimbabwe ... perhaps urging the African union of nations to .... encourage Mugabe to stand down ... to praise the Zimbabweans for their restraint ...(and to encourage their hope!) - something like that....

Bill Clinton backed Colombia trade deal: 'Estoy a favor' |

Apr 8th 2008 at 5:44 pm EDT
A reader in Latin America turned up a June 23, 2005 article from the news portal Terra (reprinted (.doc) by the Bogota government) that quotes Bill Clinton offering unambiguous support for the free trade agreement with Colombia.
The article is in Spanish, so what follows is a translation of a translation, but the gist is unmistakable:
"We need your help to expedite the signing of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the EU is very important to give a clear signal of what the relations between the two countries should be," President Alvaro Uribe said yesterday to the former president of the EU Bill Clinton, during Expogestion 2005.
"I will raise your point when you return to the United States," Clinton replied. "I am in favor of the free trade agreement and it is my hope that we will find the right formula to reach the agreement."
The story also reports that Clinton received a two-minute standing ovation after "applauding Colombia's perserverence for the progress made in the Free Trade Agreement negotiations with the United States."

Thanks to the generosity of many who donated their valuable frequent flyer miles, we sent 29 out-of-state volunteers to Texas and Ohio, and so far have another 29 going to Pennsylvania.

sorry - this is nothing to do with the new PA ads - which I will look at soon -
but just to say that Obama was magnificent at the Petraeus hearing today. Presidential and then some. No cheap soundbites or electioneering. Just well-informed, well-considered, hugely intelligent.

After watching the hearings today, the feelings I've had all along are now confirmed. As a Senator, Hillary would make a good Majority Whip leader. She gave a good showing "as a Senator." I hope she will soon come to her senses and realize that, if she doesn't already.
I am not a fan of Hillary Clinton for president, but I feel she will serve the Senate well if she remains there and drops this idea about becoming President.
People need to stick to their calling. Barack has a calling to be President. Hillary has a calling to be in the Senate, possibly Majority Leader.

I wish it were possible Hillary would do that, but I fear she will never do that.
There have been people in our world history who have refused to step down, refused to listen or accept that their view of their own stature or integrity is severely in question. You can think of many world leaders who have failed to recognize their eroding support. I believe Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton are those kinds of leaders. It's shocking and disappointing, but I think they will not listen to their own aides, their own parties, or even their constituencies until the bitter end.
In the end it destroys their goodwill and it is sad.

That said, there are a lot of people on this site that don't like her, and yet there are a lot of others on this site that respect her and just don't want her to be president. (regarding to posts after your initial one) Not something I am going to get into. In the end, I definitely think Obama seems more presidential.

Poll: Obama Closing Gap In Pennsylvania
Two Weeks Before Aprill 22 Primary, Clinton's Lead Is Down To Six Points In Quinnipiac University Poll
Campaign '08 Complete Coverage
Eye On Pennsylvania Youth Vote
PHILADELPHIA (AP) ― A new poll suggests Barack Obama is gaining ground in Pennsylvania.
Two weeks before the Keystone State primary, the Quinnipiac University poll shows Hillary Rodham Clinton still out front among Democratic voters. Fifty percent of those surveyed favored Clinton, while 44 percent said they were backing Obama.
Clinton's margin in the survey has been shrinking over the past few weeks. In mid-March she had a lead of 12 percentage points. Last week, that had dropped to nine, and now it's six.
The poll suggests Obama remains more popular among the Pennsylvania's black voters, 75 percent to 17 percent, while Clinton does better among whites, 56 percent to 38 percent.
As in past surveys, Clinton leads among older voters and Obama leads among younger ones.
The margin of error in the Quinnipiac poll is plus or minus 2.7 percent.
With new ads in PA releasing just today, we need to keep making calls in PA. Everyone, make at least 10 calls before the end of this week, and try to make 20 this weekend. WE CAN WIN PA, lets not get relaxed, we've come this far, we can defeat Hillary, PA is in our wining sight! LETs win PA!
Make Calls, Donate, Make CAlls! We can Win PA, and if we do, its over, Barack Win the nomination! Make calls now, and I think I'll donate another $50 while I'm online.

Maybe I can help. The war is very easy to understand.
Back in the late 1990's, an organization called the "Project for a New American Century" (also called the PNAC) came out with its master plan for the 21st century. The PNAC has as members a bunch of very prominent US politicians and neoconservatives.
Their plan was to first gain greater control of the United States, through some "catalyst" event. They wanted to put the US into a "state of emergency", so that it would be easier to make use of our military. The attacks of 9/11 served this purpose.
Once the military could be readily used, the plan was to take control of Iraq and then Iran. The idea was to take control of the oil fields in these countries, so that we could have economic control over these crucial resources, selling them or using them as we choose.
The "catalyst event" and the Iraq invasion have happened. The Iran invasion is supposedly close to happening. This is WHY we are in IRAQ. It's part of "The Plan".

Regarding the Senate Arms Committe hearings today, my opinion is that Patraeus and Crocker's assessment of where we are going with the war is frustrating in that firstly, they appear to be reactive instead of proactive in their strategy and they are misguided in their means to get to what they perceive as the end. Despite all of our military intelligence and resources, they do not have a clear pathway to get us out of Iraq and the light has not gone off in their head that we are not winning because the Iraqis are fighting this war differently than we are. They cannot accept the reality that we must leave. There is not a graceful way of leaving, only a measured withdrawl with the goal of simply cutting our loses. When we do finally get out for good all hell will break loose.

I agree. This ill-conceived, illegal and immoral war has no 'successful' outcome. There is no possibility of a 'successful' outcome. The question is, how long will it take the US to acknowledge this, and GET OUT.
That said, and as Obama indicated, there will have to be talks with Iran. There will have to be on-going relations with the whole region. And - sorry taxpayers - but morally there will also have to be a continued (less haemorraging but continued) financial investment in Iraq because we have destroyed their infrastructure.
Nothing good - for America or, more importantly, for Iraq, the Middle East, and the world - (yes, more importantly - because it affects more humans) - will happen in Iraq until the US Occupation Forces withdraw.

When we talk about exiting Iraq we need a much more clear idea of what 'success' is.
I think Obama is right to call for a clear description of what we are trying to attain in Iraq that would allow troups to be withdrawn.
We also need a fallback position; namely at what point do we cease attempting to attain the goal of success as defined above, and bring troups home anyway. And how can we do that in a way that is as safe as possible to both our troops and the iraqi people?
The goals themselves are not the militaries failings. They are our own Administration's bungling. However it may very well take a change in the administration before we can put the necessary clarity to the definition of success in place, and execute a plan.
Until then we are simply going from day to day hoping that some senario will present itself that we can label 'success'.

I don't know what I think about all this ... HRC is clearly and merely electioneering, for sure. But what should Obama do? I'm glad he didn't just wade in cheaply ... If a statement is called for, he could mention that the US is not, post-Bush, in a great position to lecture other countries on Human Rights (Guantanamo, waterboarding, Abu Grhaib, extraordinary renditions, etc) ... and mention the complexity of foreign relations ...
He could maybe also mention the fact that this whole 'torch relay' thing was dreamt up by the Nazis, and the Olympics were used by the Nazis to legitimise their regime...
And maybe he could also join some other voices in calling for the Olympics to be held every year in Greece. And be just about Sport, and the Olympic Ideal ....

Letter of the day: Clinton, her pastor disagree about Wright
Last update: March 27, 2008 - 6:14 PM
More from Letters
Letters to the editor, March 28, 2008
Hillary Clinton attends the Foundry United Methodist Church in Washington. So does Bill Clinton. Hillary suggests she would not have the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Barack Obama's controversial former minister, as her pastor.
But the senior pastor of her church has a very different take on how Americans should react to Wright. The Rev. Dean Snyder wrote, 'The Rev. Jeremiah Wright is an outstanding church leader whom I have heard speak a number of times. He has served for decades as a profound voice for justice and inclusion in our society. He has been a vocal critic of the racism, sexism, and homophobia which still tarnish the American dream.
'To evaluate his dynamic ministry on the basis of two or three sound bites does a grave injustice to Dr. Wright, the members of his congregation, and the African-American church, which has been the spiritual refuge of a people that has suffered from discrimination, disadvantage, and violence. Dr. Wright, a member of an integrated denomination, has been an agent of racial reconciliation while proclaiming perceptions and truths uncomfortable for some white people to hear.
'Those of us who are white Americans would do well to listen carefully to Dr. Wright rather than to use a few of his quotes to polarize. This is a critical time in America's history as we seek to repent of our racism. No matter which candidates prevail, let us use this time to listen again to one another and not to distort one another's truth. '

Exactly! That's what's amazing. There were agreements that those votes wouldn't count and she is distorting the situation to claim that BO is not agreeing to a re-vote, therefore is responsible for the FL and MI folks not being heard.
I hope and pray that your assessment is correct, in that SDs will close the case out without a much more prolonged democratic blood bath. I am deeply concerned...

Loved the Mother ad. I can't imagine other middle aged white moms who are leaning toward the female Democratic candidate not hesitating at least a moment after seeing it. Like a Mrs. Gaskell novel--gentle and persuasive without being sappy and simple-minded.

We are 16-15 days away from Pennsylvania. This campaign has thus far raised about twice as much as The Other campaign. But we’ve got to keep going, we must finish this thing off. There are many ways to support this campaign, one way is to give. The list totals $11,703-$11,653 right now. I challenge this blog and this camping to knock off these 10-9 names by the Pennsylvania primary.
Mama For Obama has been sitting at the top of the list for a while, as you can see. She’s slowly meeting her goal. I feel like there is someone out there who reads all the blogs, kind of sitting on the sideline waiting for an opportunity to give. This could be it. Is there someone who can give the maximum $2300, or close to that?
The Top Ten List:
1. Mama For Obama has been sitting up here for a while. Can anyone give the max donation of $2300? She made her page on Jan 17 in honor of Future First Lady Michelle Obama's birthday, the “#1 mama”. $4491-$4476-$4471-$4461-$4351- $4326-$4276-$4256-$4241-$4191- $4166-$4141-$4116-$4106-$4096- $4071-$4046-$3996-$3971-$3951- $3926-$3876-$3861-$3836-$3586- $3576-$3481-$3456-$3431-$3421- $3396-$3346-$3261-$3036-$3000- $2990
Link
2. Here is Lisa From L.A. She needs $880 more…make that $870-$865-$855-$805-$795-$780- $770-$610-$600-$570-$520-$420- $350
Link
3. New To This has raised much of her $5,000 but still is lacking $1475-$1465-$1455-$1420-$1410- $1400-$1390-$1380-$1370-$1345- $1320-$1300
Link
4. Jill helped another Obama friend raise over $800. Now she needs help. Can we give her some? $1665-$1655-$1665-$1645-$1619- $1519-$1469-$1459
Link
5. Denise wrote, “A year ago I would have never imagined I'd be spending a Saturday making calls soliciting support for a political candidate. For that matter blogging, sign waving, or reading every word a health care plan… Can anyone can help out?” Well? $900-$875-$850-$740-$715-$680- $615-$605-$595 to go.
Link
6. Willie B writes: If one has done it so can you, if no one has done it that one can be you. He’s looking for $1000-$855-$845-$825-$810 -$760-$735
Link
7. Here’s Gigi, who’s fundraising on behalf of her grandson. Her fundraising goal is based on her family’s lucky number 27, as in $2700…make that $2660-$2598-$2558-$2523-$2498
Link
9. Futbol Mom is an “automatic monthly donor”. She’s been giving for a while. Now she needs $786.
Link
10. Donna Henderson is ready to go! $945-$935

These new ads are wonderful! They're positive, they cover a lot of specific information, and they show voters the personal side of Barack (including his great a sense of humor!)
What I especially love are the clips of him with his two daughters. He's so loving with them and I KNOW he's concerned about their futures. I have two young daughters, too. I'm concerned about their futures. But I know that with the government in Barack's hands--and with Michelle Obama as first lady heading initiatives centered around families--we'll get the country and the planet back on track.

The five new commercials Hillary just started in PA are better than these from Obama. Hillary's are directed at the mentality of working-class Whites. Obama's are not. I hope I'm wrong and Obama's team has focus-group-tested his vs. hers, but Hillary's seem to me more skillful for the job that needs to be done -- win working class Whites.

But does she have the grassroots backing that Obama has....does she have ability to make good decisions at 3 AM.......does she have the lobbyist backing. Don't we want to break the mold........ I think it's time.

I have to say I am thankful for technology that allows us to play these ads whenever we want, Ads are so costly that the campaigns can be limited to using them, but these are so good, Maya is a proud sister and she should be.
Love to hear from her, but I also LOVE the fact that Barack is not bringing a family of politicians or a legacy of a political family. The Obama's are simple American with some great intelligence willing to stand up for the common people in this country.

** I can barely write because my heart is full, my tears free flowing, and the very depth of my soul is touched! What an awesome piece..both the written word and the media expression. It needs to play in Denver at the Democratic National Convention. I will replay it many times and share it with as many others. Thank you for your tremendous contribution to this cause! ** Thank YOU so very much John! Brief but yet so brilliant… a must see for everyone! I have goosebumps on the top of my head… and shivers like never before at the mere thought of a wonderful future for Americans alike and the world will be watching a transformation like never seen before! ** This is the most inspiring piece on Senator Obama I have seen! It is so amazing to realize how many people outside America are watching this process and agree with us regarding Senator Obama’s character and intelligence. I had truly given up and along comes Senator Obama! Thank you again, sir, for putting your beautiful words with this powerful video. Posted by Maxine | March 28, 2008, 8:07 pm
