hey Celtic, did you here how Biden grilled those two Bush hack jobs on the Iraq war? He basically got one of them to undermine the whole GOP rationale for further war in Iraq by getting one to admit that if he had to choose between fighting al queada in Iraq vs. al queda in Pakistan, he said Pakistan when pressed by Biden.
Moral of the story is Iraq is not the center of the war on terror. We're fighting the wrong war. Joseph Biden is the man. He'll make a great VP.

I know and I think Barack has him in mind, since Clinton had Wesley Clarks support. Biden would make an excellent VP and Bill Richardson an great International Peace Advocate.
with a Global Warming Embassador named Al Gore, We the People will have an Allstar team to fight the madness of Bush.
6 more months to go Team America, and the Train of Change is chugging along at a record clip, coasting into PA, and waiting for or new passengers of Change.
Let's do it!

I love your choices, especially Joe Biden - my favorite.
How about Jim Webb for Secretary of Defense? He was a former Secretary of the Navy. He's a bit intense, but walks the walk (Marine; highly decorated Vietnam veteran and I believe his son is or was fighting in Iraq) and talks the talk (against the unjust war in Iraq).

WOW Take a look at that! Annie Leibovitz, SUPER awesome, super famous photographer, who got her start with Rolling stone back in the day, and now shoots for Vanity fair, is in the background of the picture where Barack is outside with yellow plastic bag around his wrist!
Makes me wonder if he is going to grace the cover of a new Vanity fair soon??
and in case you are not familiar with her work here's a link!

I know I just adopted a Lab pup, his owner couldn't have pets in the apartment they had to move to because of foreclosure. I got some new neighbors and the guy that owned the house and rented rooms out of it, lost it in a loan and the elder me who lived there are also, now homeless.
Some American dream, this man has lived here for 35 years and kept his house painted every three or so years. Now he doesn't have a home and lives in his truck. Said he can't afford an apartment right now.
Some of our neighbors have taken a few of them in, until they can do better. Jobs are scarce and this man is stooped over and works doing salvage. Now me, I like to make lemon-ade our of the lemons and to lighten things up told him, soon as Barack is in office, a lot of small recycling businesses will open up. They did in the 0's when we had to clean up plastic bottles and aluminum cans to make ends meet. My husband turned in some cans and got enough for two gallons of gas.

The best junk food in this genre is the 'Funny Bones' followed by 'Devil Dogs'.
Soft chocalate cake coated in chocalate melt with whipped creamy peanut butter filling.
You can't beat that.
Devil Dogs are chocalate spongy buns filled with smooth lightly sweet cream filling.

I love the Obama family also. I think he and Michele are America's favorite couple. I just can't believe that the media didn't understand what Michele meant when she stated yesterday that she likes accessories, as a matter of fact she is married to one. Some people are asking what did she mean by that? Let me break it down to those that don't understand what she meant: She meant accessories always compliment, or bring out the best in what a person is wearing. Barack is her accessory because he compliments her, he makes her shine, he makes her look good. So she was paying him a compliment that only people that is not disconnected from the generation would understand. Michele is so cool, and graceful. They would bring life to the White House. And their children would bring laughter back to the White House. Now How Nice That Would Be!!!

Let me say she is very personable, very funny, and very well informed on BO's positions on the issues. I had a great time and so did my high school aged son whom I took with me and told, "Son, if Barak Obama wins, you just met the First Lady of the United States!"

Here's an Obama vignette - from David Mendell's book
Nairobi, Kenya in Aug 2006 -
Obama shook the hands of a long row of current embassy staff with Michelle nearly last in line. The last few introduced themselves to Obama, and then Michelle smiled and held out her hand and offered the same, as if she were just another member of the greeeting party.
"I'm your wife, welcome," she said with a warm smile.
"Hello, Wife," Obama said with a playful grin.

I love how the HRC camp tries to turn this support into a negative, Rove-style type of characterization with "liberal elites" favoring Obama while hard-working Americans support their candidate. Seems like they say it is a bad thing to pursue a college education when it is becoming more and more a necessity in today's job market. Blows my mind. I better get another latte and relax.

If they still struggle, they can try Wellbutrin 150mg for couple months. Needs prescription, but there is generic, and a nurse practitioner may do it. It helps depression too. Most smokers really medicate some mental or neurological problem, like Parkinsons or MS. With Wellbutrin (Buproprion), one day you will be smoking as usual, then you will look at the cigarette and ask yourself " what is this smoking stick in my hand doing here?". No pain. Welbutrin contains an ingredient similar to the one in chocolate. Nicotine is a very powerful medication, so it is tough to quit. But, hey, in two months from now you could have two hands free while calling and telling people why Obama is better than McCain for this wonderful country.

Courage Vs. Cowardliness |
Report to Admin

Apr 9th 2008 at 7:36 pm EDT
This post is in response to an earlier post about Senator Obama being portrayed as a coward for not fighting back Senator Clinton's "kitchen sink" tactics...
In all my years I have never known fighting fire w/fire proved anything except a waste of burnt up space & time. It certainly does not prove whether one has Courage or not. To rise above insult & cruelty is far better than to be partaker of such cowardliness & demonizing behavior. The True Power lies in one's ability to move beyond cowardliness & lack of self control. This is one of the reasons I strongly admire & support Senator Obama, for he has displayed time & time again, Courage & Self Control, in the midst of adversity. He is always portraying a more perfect (mature) way of dealing with uncomfortable & negative situations. So, exactly what are you promoting? Senator Obama has already WON (in more ways than one), and he knows it! I know it! Do you know it? Hear then Listen.
Because if he did not know & embrace True Power, maybe he would indulge you & the like & fight...hmmm. May Truth & Wisdom be your guide...
Love Ya,
Peace

That's why their candidate is losing, they waiste their time here. I feel sorry for them the envy of wanting the same place and yet too blindly loyal to the lies and deceipt perpetrated by their candidate. There's only so much more before the rose colored Clinton Rememeberal wears off, and then they too, as We did, support the best candidate for the Democratic Nomination and Presidential seat. We'll run another woman in 4-8 years depoending on the results achieved through the people, we help to seat in November to help Barack and America, to rebuild our infrastructure, creating the long overdue good paying jobs, if the companies continue to go for cheaper overseas labor, open an American manufacturing or business up to replace it. We won't get that good a product anyway until the oversight committees, under Democratic leadership, will catch all the Bush It, that has fallen through the Rubberstamp Neoconmen Rethugliklans, cracks.

Despite all the stress of running a top American Citizen Campaign, that runs on truth and facts to make the best decisions We the People can, to participate in the massive changes to our once healthy economy, and make sure all our safeguards for our elderly and disabled, remain in tact. No more privatization of public facilities that We the People pay for and need for our families.

Monica,
I am an Iranian-American who grew up in Iran and immigrated to the US at the age of 15 (I am 40 now) with some family still living in Iran, so naturally I am much more knowledgeable about the Middle-East than the average American. It's needless to say that I am proud to be an American now as well as proud of my own heritage. However, I am completely against the theocratic regime that is ruling Iran and ruining it.
There is a major problem with that proposal. The Shi'a are a minority in the Muslim world making up about 10% of the total. There are really 3 countries with the highest concentration of Shi'a muslims: Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan. I hope you can see the major conflict of interest if one includes Iranian soldiers in a "Peace Keeping" force. It would be a moot point to include Iraqi Shi'a in the force since they are also part of the problem. And as to Afghanistan, I need to say no more. Once cannot possibly have a force made up of mostly sunnis either. They will certainly be biased against the Shi'a. Trust me, there is no magic wand solution. The only solution, my friend(s) is to let the situation play itself out. Yes there will be many killed. But there will not be anything avoiding it.

They even included that Bill was paid $800,000 and wondered how their different views would play out if Hillary got into the White House. The comment was that Hillary cannot demote or detach from Bill. They also said that ALL THREE presidential hopefulls had a lobbyist or a former lobbyist on their staff and that this almost unavoidable.

Ritter says White House preparing for war in Iran
Monday, April 07, 2008, Source: Rutland Herald
MIDDLEBURY — Scott Ritter, former head of weapons inspection in Iraq who protested there were no weapons of mass destruction to justify an invasion, believes the same is true for Iran.
But there is an 80 percent chance of war with Iran, he told about 200 people Wednesday at Middlebury College as part of a series of talks facilitated by the Vermont Peace and Justice Center.
The pattern of preparations for such a conflict has been steadily developing and involves Congress as well as the Bush-Cheney administration, he said.
People ask him if he feels vindicated by the absence of WMDs in Iraq, he said, but "there isn't any vindication in being right about this one." A war with Iran would hasten the ongoing decline of American standing in the world, and afterward Russia and China would be ready to take advantage of the resulting power vacuum, he said.
Among the war clouds Ritter cited were:
Preemptive strikes against the two groups most likely to erupt if the United States invaded Iran, Hezbollah (unsuccessfully attacked by Israel) and Moqtada al-Sadr's Mahdi Army (unsuccessfully attacked in Basra by Iraq's central government).
Ritter predicted a similarly disappointing showing if the American forces attacked Iran, a country 2-1/2 times as large and populous as Iraq that is much more unified culturally and did not have its army destroyed in a previous war with the United States.
Recent visits to Middle Eastern allies by high officials, ostensibly for other purposes, but really to prepare them for the effects of such a war.
The appearance of the "miracle laptop," as Ritter called it, a thousand pages of technical documents supposedly from a stolen Iranian computer, which dubiously had just the sort of information the administration needed to support a hard-line stand on Iran.
Congressional supplementary funding for more "bunker-busting" bombs, with a contract completion deadline of April.
Congressional supplementary funding for the extra bombers to carry those bombs, with a contract completion date of April.

Admiral William Fallon, the first admiral to be head of Central Command, said that level of naval forces was unnecessary and blocked the move. Ritter said that was "a heroic thing."
The main target of Ritter's criticisms was an American public that couldn't pass a test on the Constitution and understands little of international history and politics, and refuses to believe the life of an Iraqi is worth as much as the life of an American.
He began his talk, not by trumpeting the danger of war, but by talking about spring, and the birds that will soon have babies in their nests. Mother birds will forage, come to the nests, see open mouths begging for food, and puke into each one, he said.
Just so, Ritter said, people sit in front of their televisions every night and wait to be stuffed with mushy phrases like "The surge has been successful" and "Baghdad is 70 percent secure" and "We have apparently won the war."
"The reality of Iraq is that it is a broken nation," Ritter said. Groups like the Kurds and Shia are not unified groups, there is already a civil war, and most of the opposition to our presence comes from our being the invaders, he said.
"It is far too easy to look for people to blame," he said. For instance, "we blame the media, but the media simply give us what we're asking for."
Everyone needs to start understanding and caring about their Constitutional rights, and everyone needs to start finding the facts for themselves and taking strong individual stands, Ritter said. If you do nothing but take in what the TV and newspapers tell you, "all you're going to get in return is puke."

I give Ritter's opinion a lot of weight. I remember when he was on the U.N. inspection team and told the media repeatedly that there were no nukes in Iraq. He is an alumnus of my alma mater, Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., so, I pay attention when he is on the news. His thoughts on the Iran situation are unsettling. However, I don't know what kind of lie Bush would have to come up with to persuade congress to approve war in Iran.

Have you seen about Universal Health care. It got voted down today in CA. Gov. Romney has been doing it and they are stopping it. If you can't pay for your insurance you get fined, money taken out of your paycheck and/or a lein on your house. Insurance companies are giving the 300% above poverty level (that's who has to have UNIVERSAL health care) access to clinics and not the best hospitals, it's a long wait for services, etc. Now working people's insurance co-pays and deductibles are increasing and your share to your company is raising your out-of-pocket deductions too. They will get a tax deductible but probably they don't even file taxes b/c they don't have a high enough income. So, Elizabeth I'm sorry but mandated "universal" health care is not the answer.

I live in Mass. where ex-Gov Romney's parting gift to us was mandated health care. I work in a hospital and also have a good friend, elderly, who has a heart condition and a hernia (and so is unemployed) living on a joke of social security and getting jerked around by the health care systemm .....can't afford to buy his medication...
This is akin to wh at Sen. Clinton wants. Assure that everyone's required by law to buy insurance with no cap on premiums and then, with everyone locked in the room, guess what, insurance companies can raise their rates as high as they want (per wink-wink-nod-nod pre-election agreement with the candidate) and we're criminalized if we can't pay out of pocket for our rising health ins.
With too many of us losing jobs and/or homes at the moment, this is an especially unattractive offer. Plus, the version in Mass, unlike Obama's, leaves children behind.
YOU'VE GOT TO INSURE CHILDREN!!! What an insulting offer.
And not to cover elderly people living on a fixed income is barbaric, medieval. Shame on you, Mitt!
Trust me, mandated care is not a humane option.

The Clintons can not get back in the white house, this can only be good=greed for them and bad-America loses for us.
Think of all the controversy and scandals that will follow, can we please look forward and not back, can we change this country, this world and our own lives and not go back to failed policies of the past, scandals, and humiliation?
During the Impeachment trial my husband and I were in Scotland and were asked by many people, is there anything else happening in America besides your President getting a BJ?
Wouldn't it be nice to go back and have people ask us, How do you like having health care now? Or aren't you glad that war is over and so many more men and women didn't have to give their lives, or sacrifice by being wounded or have their families living below the poverty level as they fought a war that made so many rich but was paid for by the blood of so many Americans and Iraqis, a war that should not have been.

If you don't have the right leadership and ability to build a diverse majority, then we won't get anything done. He "preferred" Healthcare plan would fail to pass. Then what. You can't argue that Hillary and Barack are the same. They are not. She has been stealing from him and moving close to him just to make that argument.

Do you agree with Hillary's vote in favor of the Kyl-Lieberman ammendment?
Do you agree with Bill Clinton's bombing the pharmaceutical plant in the Sudan which eventually killed tens of thousands due to lack of medicine?
Did you know that Hillary voted in favor of No Child Left Behind in 2001?
Did you know that Hillary did not in fact vote against the bankruptcy reform bill in 2005 (as she claimed in the Nevada debate)? It turns out she didn't vote at all in '05 and in '01 she voted for it hoping it wouldn't pass.
Did you know that the mass genocide that occurred in Rwanda happened on Bill Clinton's watch?
Do you agree with Hillary's appointing Sandy Berger as one of her National Security advisors? Berger plead guilty to stealing and destroying classified intelligence documents (they were related to 9/11).
Do you agree with Hillary's having had Mark Penn as one of her chief strategists (a major voice for her campaign until recently) who represents Blackwater as well as a huge uniform supplier that refused to deal with the Culinary Workers Union and that he has a history of being a known union buster?
Do you agree with the Clinton's support of NAFTA?

Did you know Hillary will not release her earmarks going back to 2001?
Do you agree with Hillary's voting against increasing fuel economy and the production of renewable fuels like Ethanol?
Do you agree with Hillary's mandated health care plan that to this day leaves out the consequences for middle to lower income families who can't afford the rates she is proposing?
Do you agree with Hillary's statement in regards to social security that the majority of Americans in this country make over 90,000 dollars a year?
Do you agree with Hillary's voting against providing seniors with a prescription drug benefit?
Do you agree with Hillary's support and defense of lobbysists?
Do you agree with Hillary's support of current bankrupcy laws that continue to hurt lower income Americans and small businesses?

That's because they UNDERESTIMATED both the American public and Barack. Something they have done through this whole campaign.
They think people are stupid - that we believe lies and misrepresentations.
I don't think they ever read Barack's books, because - if they had - they would have known that he would rise above the Wright situation and bring the American people with him.
Who looks stupid now?

The story has been WELL VETTED by many organizations including ALL MAJOR Chicago papers ... they have concluded OBAMA has NOT done anything wrong and there is no illegal activity on Obama part - PERIOD.
Why don't you turn your attention to Hillary with all of her REAL scandals and illegal campaign financing (Peter Paul, HSU, etc.) and McCain with his Keeding Five scandal.

The woman is terminally ill. One of her final wishes is to see health care for all americans...if she thinks Sen. Clinton's plan is the way to go, I will respect her decision. I think its the wrong plan to back, but I'm not going to fight someone who has good intention as Mrs. Edwards does.

I think Keith wanted to make it perfectly clear that it wasn't an endorsement based on what other stations were reporting. And the bottom line of Elizabeth's preference for HRC's health care---Elizabeth wants a mandate. Again, I say those who cannot AFFORD health care will be fined and I guess Elizabeth doesn't care about that because it will never affect her.

I believe John Edwards has repeatedly stated that he liked Sen. Clinton's healthcare plan because it was similar to his. The fly in the ointment however is the fact that Sen. Edwards also repeatedly mocked Sen. Clinton's ability to pass such a plan because he called her divisive, and that she has to many ties to Washington lobbyists in particularly the Insurance industry. Interesting how NO ONE (not even Keith Olberman, is calling Elizabeth Edwards on that little fact.

Obama-Peeps...Keith Olbermann cannot possibly be on pro-Obama overload all the time. He would have NO credibility if he did so. Having Elizabeth on was fair. exactly. let's face it. the chances of either of their health plans being adopted as is will not happen.
they will have to make some concessions.
i personally agree with Baracks idea that if health care is afordable, people will buy it. If it is not affordable and you force people to buy it anyway, that would be a problem.
either way, Keith was very professional. he did not attack her like faux news would have and i respect Elizabeth's views though i may disagree without being disagreeable.

And would also allow small businesses to help offset the cost to their employees. There was an article posted here the other day that said Sen. Obama had a better plan. (Can someone post the link - thanks!) I believe this is why we are seeing Mrs. Edwards recently coming out publicly. It appears it's a philosophical belief held by many wealth people like the Edwards who think middle class, working class and poor people just want the government taking care of their needs. When the truth is that we want to have a stake in decisions made in Washington, so we would rather pay for the privilege, within reason of course.

while it's bad to compound rumors, i think there's truth to that bitter and jealousy thing.
i hope O doesn't give him any position of imprtance when he becomes POTUS. he should only reward and surround himself with people who are courageous, with good judgement and who are loyal to him so that he has confidence in them to carry out the duties entrusted to them. i am sure O will select a GREAT cabinet.

I wish she'd have mentioned the fact that her husband sided with Clinton on the Universal mandated health care plan (during his time in the campaign). It would have sounded Less like an endorsement and More like a reiteration.
I can see HRC saying something like, "Just as Elizabeth Edwards recently stated....".
I'll look for that quote from her or at least from one of her surrogates.
At least I hope so, because Mrs. Edwards (I hear) doesn't care for HRC and that could definitely not go too well for her with NC coming up soon.
On the other hand, it could be the calm before the storm (the storm of Edwards endorsing Barack)! I'll hope for This strategy!

Gallup Daily: Obama Leads Clinton by 10 Points
Second double-digit lead for Obama in Gallup tracking
For the third consecutive day, Barack Obama holds a significant advantage over Hillary Clinton in national Democratic preferences for the Democratic presidential nomination, now 51% to 41%.
Today's 10 percentage point spread, based on Gallup Poll Daily tracking from April 6-8, is only the second time since January that Obama has achieved a double-digit lead over Clinton, the first being his 10-point lead in interviewing conducted March 27-29.
Although Obama's lead was much narrower at several points recently in the campaign, Clinton has not led Obama by any amount since March 18-20.

Wednesday, April 09, 2008
Rasmussen Reports
In the race for the Democratic Presidential Nomination, Obama now attracts 50% of the vote while Hillary Clinton earns 41%. That’s the fifth straight day that Obama has been at or above the 50% level of support and enjoyed a significant lead over Clinton (see recent daily results). Clinton continues to hold a modest lead in Pennsylvania while Obama holds a huge lead in North Carolina. Data from Rasmussen Markets now gives Obama an 86.3% chance to win the Democratic nomination. Expectations for an Obama victory have grown steadily over the past month.

Elizabeth Edwards is a very nice person. It seems to me that it is very much better to have her on the show to clarify her earlier comments, than to have it running around the blogs that it was a semi-endorsement of Clinton. And I really don't think it was at all. She just believes very passionately that MANDATING health care is the way to go. I'm sure that this one is the sticking point as to why they haven't endorsed Obama. Yet they certainly could also not endorse Clinton for all the obvious reasons.
I hope BO or surrogates will respond with the argument that you have to start somewhere and his plan is more palatable to more people. Getting a good plan passed is obviously better than not being able to get anything done at all. "Universal Health Care" will carry with it a Republican stigma of "socialized medicine."

McCain is a hypocrite!
John McCain in 1993 on the Senate floor regarding Somalia:
"Mr. President, there is NO reason for the United States of America to remain in Somalia. The American people want them home. I believe the majority of Congress wants them home. And to set an artificial date of March 31st, or even February 1st, in my view, is not acceptable. The criteria should be to bring them home as rapidly and safely as possible. An evolution that I think could be completed in a matter of weeks.
"The American people did not support the goals of nation-building, peace-making, law and order, and certainly not war lord hunting. . . For us to get into nation-building, law and order, etc., I think is a tragic and terrible mistake. Now is the time to get out of Somalia as rapidly and as promptly and as safely as possible."
John McCain in 1994 on the Senate floor regarding Haiti:
"The right course of action is to make preparations as quickly as possible to bring our people home. It does not mean, as soon as order is restored to Haiti. It doesn't mean as soon as democracy is flourishing in Haiti. It doesn't mean as soon as we have established a viable nation in Haiti. As soon as possible means as soon as we can get out of Haiti without losing any American lives.
"Now there may be different interpretations of this resolution on the other side. . . but it is my view, and I want to make it clear, and I think the majority of the American People's view, that as soon as possible means as soon as possible, exactly what those words state. . . The Haitians were to police themselves."
Hypocrisy much?

His memory is shady and there are big unanswered questions in his testimony about whether Tony Rezko was ever involved in any unlawful activity.

Lets just hope that if he does endorse her it doesnt help out to much in North Carolina, but I am sure we have all kinds of endorsements lined up for North Carolina.

I appreciate what she said about the healthcare policies. I've heard that before and I do not agree. I've also been ill-though not at all like her-and I have studied the healthcare issue too.
Most people will buy the healthcare, as they should. But I believe adults have to make this decision for themselves even though all children, seniors, and anyone else who cannot make an independent decision must be covered.

Calling a terminally ill woman who's final wish is for universal health care a 'jerk' just because she supports a different candidate doesn't seem like the best idea to me.
I am sorry she isn't on board with Barack; I'd love to have the edwards' support. But I don't think we should resort to name calling, rather just respectfully disagree with their support of HRC's plan.

Amy, I object to your consideration of her illness status affecting her discretion in a positive way, or somehow elevating her above criticism. She is the LAST person who would choose to have her illness considered, and anyone else who has an illness (and while hers is PROBABLY terminal, we have no knowledge of that being the case!). I really don't believe we need to worry about her illness status in any way in this case. IMHO, it's another way to be biased.

Actually, I recall from early on that Elizabeth was the one who was a big fan of Obama's! So she likes Clinton's health care plan. She's a very ill woman, and that would be a concern to her. It is a matter of opinion, but I think Obama's is a better one, because all can get coverage, but if you're dirt poor...unlike the Edwards of course, you can still get coverage without forced insurance coverage coming out of your paycheck!
At any rate, it's all null and void because Elizabeth's two bits isn't going to make a difference at this point at ALL. Everyone should let it go. It was a small blip in the media. It pales in comparison to the troubles the entire Clinton family and campaign are having right now and in the bright spotlight of the media.

Bill Ayers is a guy who alloegedly bombed a NYC Police Station, the White House and the Pentagon back in the day! He now lives in Chicago in Obama's neigborhood. He is a professor at the University of Chicago and his wife, who was supposedly his accomplice is now a professor at Northwestern. Well, Hannity claims that because Obama spoke twice at the same venue that Ayers happened to speak at and went to a political meeting at Ayer's home once; they are bosom buddies! David Axelrod addressed the issue and said that BO is "friendly" with Ayers because they live in the same neighborhood and their children go to the same school. Hannity claims that Ayers said in an interview with the NYT on Sept. 11, 2001 that he should have bombed more. My interpretation is that Ayers was opposing the Vietnam War and through his activism, he did some things that he is now remorseful for but Hannity does not believe people can change. His argument is how could BO be friends with a terrorist. Friendly does not mean that they are "FRIENDS"! That is the jist of the story! It won't go anywhere because it has no guts! Every net they set they will be caught in it themselves!

Although the Bill Ayers story has no real traction, I do think that the Obama campaign should find a way of injecting into the narrative, the fact that the guy is currently an education professor married to a law professor.
This would give the story some context, otherwise those that do not know the background may assume that he is some raving crazy individual on the loose. The fact that he is imparting knowledge to students in a top university means that he is not as bad as Sean Hannity is making out.

Most of us don't agree with HRC's healthcare plan and neither do I. I don't think people should be forced to by healthcare. People are BROKE/POOR/BARELY MAKING END MEET, etc....

I hear you. I am a dedicated Obama supporter but I will be the first to admit (as a soon-to-be physician) that NEITHER Obama's nor Hillary's health care plans are ideal.
The problems with Hillary's plan are 1) mandates haven't worked very well in Massachusetts under Mitt Romney, and the country would revolt at having wages garnished if you didn't buy health care insurance and 2) the biggest beneficiary of her plan are the INSURANCE COMPANIES. After her failed health care initiative in the 90's, the insurance companies have given lots of money to her and lobbied hard for her plan, which SOUNDS good (everyone having insurance) but really it is forcing everyone to buy insurance from one of these health insurance corporations.
The problem with Obama's plan is that many young adults will not buy insurance because they feel invincible and like they won't get sick. Then if they DO get sick or have a serious injury, the hospital has to pay for their care and this can put small hospitals out of business.
I think the true solution (and the majority of physicians agree) is some form of single-payer universal healthcare, and to GET RID of these health insurance companies. Their goal is to make profit for their shareholders, not to take care of sick people.

I think the big problem with forcing folks to buy insurance is that this is not a public program but a private one. As long as there is a "for-profit" middle man involved in our healthcare we will not get good healthcare at appropriate cost. Obama's plan mandates care for children, covering them up to age 25 on their parents' policies. It seems like a good compromise would be to "automatically" enroll those without coverage in a public plan, allowing them to opt out if they wish. Or, you could automatically enroll anyone who seeks medical care without the ability to pay in full at time of service. There are ways to move toward a single payer system but allow those who demand private insurance to continue in their current plan. The beauty of Barack's plan is that it will appeal to free-marketers and the rest of us too. It will get passed, modified, changed, improved over time. But at least we will get off of high-center, where we have been stuck since the 1980's.

Hello. I am in agreement with you. I however do think that O's plan is a better start because he is also going to make transparent the payouts to the insurance companies and make them compete with each other to offer better plans for all.
A single payor system would hurt American healthcare in other ways, too. Such that fewer specialized Md's would emerge ( just take a look at Canada). This would happen because not only would the insurance co make less, but so too would Md's ( surgeons alike) and nurses etc.
This is why so many health care providers come here to work.

Actually she is playing politics with the health care plan and everyone knows it.
Her husband can't come out and endorse anyone because he is too scared and she wants to make sure just in case that 2.5% chance HRC has of getting the nomination by December (not kidding) he gets to be the newest Czar in her cabinet.
I thought everyone knew that they were playing the same old tennis game as usual.

I have great empathy for Elisabeth Edwards and her situation but it does not negate the fact she and her multi millionaire husband along with Billary and their millions are wong on the issue of universal healthcare.
People in their finacial situation will never have find out what it means to have your forced healthcare mandate eat your mortage payment or your grocery budget.
Do people understand their will be no allowances for age differences under HC plan. A young person of today can get the same insurance coverage as an older person say in their seventies for one third the price. Under HC plan everyone will pay the older persons price. There will be no choice of coverage and no way to control insurance costs.
Barack Obama is lower middle class compared to his opponent and the only one young enough to remember what it is like to struggle. He gets it! He understands the government cannot support this enormous cost therefore we have to make it so anyone who wants it will be able to afford to do their part. If don't want even after it is made affordable that is your choice.

I am too a bit upset about how people are reacting to Elizabeth Edwards, people should be allowed to states different opinions then us and that does not make them the devil. I respect her and her opinion, however I also dont agree with the people on here basically saying we shouldnt be mean to her because she has Cancer. We shouldnt be mean to her because she is respectfully stating her case even though it is different from Obama's. Good for her.

I sent this message to Mrs. Edwards after watching her on Keith Olberman:
Dear Mrs. Edwards:
I want to say that I respect you as a great fighter for healthcare, but a strongly disagree with the stance you took on the Keith Olberman show on April 9, 2008.
Mandates is not the best way to ensure Americans. I am sorry, but as an American, I should not FORCED by the government to buy anything. I am an American, which means that I should have FREEDOM. And as someone who speaks out against George Bush, a president that does not believe in civil liberities and freedom of the American people, I am surprised that you take a position of stripping Americans of the right to make the choice about what is best for the bodies. After all, the Bible says that MY body is MY temple. He didn't say my body is the GOVERNMENTs temple. If the government can start making decision on American's bodies, then abortion rights and women's rights to make choices about their own bodies will eventually be government something the will control.
Lastly, I find it ironic that you support Hillary having mandates and you think she has a better plan, yet there are well documented articles that she has NOT paid for the health insurance of her own campaign staff members for atleast two months! Is this really someone you want to have your great name attached to in the fight for healthcare? Moreover, telling untrue story about a hospital in Ohio, lying about being under sniper fire (that is the most dishonorable thing to suggest that our own military did not prove adequate protection for the first lady), and brokering the peace deal in Ireland? I'm sorry, I just don't believe that a dignified woman such as yourself is a pea in a Hillary Clinton pod. It just doesn't seem like a good fit to me.

Elizabeth Edwards position on healthcare is exactly what John Edwards' plan is.
Remember, he and Hillary both had MANDATES in their plans forcing people to buy insurance.
Isn't it amazing that the two MILLIONAIRES in the race, want to force poor people who don't have, and cannot afford, health care to buy it!!
They only need to look at the problems ongoing with Massachusetts' mandatory health insurance program.......600,000 people uninsured when the program started....now almost 100,000 people given waivers because they absolutely can't afford it, So where is the MANDATE.
As Obama has repeatedly said, "It's not that people don't want health care, or will not buy it, they just can't afford it."
So, MANDATING it, will not make it so!!!

My suggestion, though, is rather than engage in speculation (sometimes wild speculation), we should concentrate on our tasks, that is, working hard on these upcoming primaries.
That will keep us upbeat.
The bottom line is, none of us knows who the Edwards will endorse and when.
This has been a LONG contest, and it may be stressing some of us out. I agree with the blogger up above who suggest we CALM down, just take a deep breath, go for a walk if you need be, turn your TV off, read a good book, practice some yoga, whatever it takes to keep your blood pressure from soaring sky high.
We will all be fine. Trust me.

Jade, you are a kindred sister among kindred sisters. This was a H OOOOOOOOOOO T If the Clinton supporters had any sense of shame, they would recognize this increase as a slap upside the head. (A very needed slap, I must say) But, then again, maybe they're trying to get some of those creditors off her back. Po' Po' Hillary, what's a po little, female, millionaire to do? Actually, Keith, (as in Olberman) I live in CT and it was common knowledge that the reason Joe Lieberman's website went down is because they hadn't paid the bill. That came out right away, after they accused Lamont of hacking it.
Joe Lieberman ran a dirty, nasty, dispicable campign and had hired guns roughing people up who were attending Ned Lamont Rallies. Joe is a creep, a two faced jerk, who lied to his constituents, is a poor loser and an overall wet blanket. Ned is a good solid guy, who ran a decent campaign.
The current situation w/ Clinton vs Obama is reminiscent of the CT vote. Ned was a decent, honorable guy running against a dishonest "name" candidate.
I wish you guys could have seen Joe's "hired guns" that came to a rally in Greenwich and literally pushed us around to hold "JOE" signs in front of our Lamont signs.
He is a liar and I hope he never gets elected again.
I was at an Obama event a few weeks ago and saw Ned there.
He is doing well.

The only reason why Joe won was because he got 90% of the GOP vote in 2006. He lost among Democrats in the general and tied among independents - if it wasn't for the help from his GOP friends coming out to vote for him, he would be GONE!

Just witnessed something beautifully humane...
I'm at the LOCAL coffee shop getting my weekly fix of high speed and KO.
A bunch of young couples with toddlers and babies came in and ordered beverages.
Shortly after, an elderly man came in an ordered one beverage.
He is a bit disheveled and appears homeless.
Two of the dads in the group introduced themselves to the man
and introduced their children to him as well.
After talking for a few minutes, they asked him if they could
drive him to a local homeless shelter.
The man agreed.
However, for some personal reason - he is unable to return to
the local shelter.
They are gently and reasonably talking with him about
plans for his future.
They are going to get him a motel room for the night,
and their place of faith is going to buy him a ticket to
the place out of state where his brother lives.
I am my brothers' keeper.
I am my sisters' keeper.

Yes, great idea. But I think more of the grocery stores have to take responsibility and get involved in going green. Plus, if he would have brought his own bags, they would have said he thinks he's too good, or not blue-collar. Hi Patrice,
The group prayer is over (it was from 9 pm eastern time to 9:10pm (people adjusted for their time zone to be in "unison").
However, if you use this link, you can probably still find the event posted, with the prayer everyone was saying at the same time, and details about the quiet thoughts afterwards, etc.
Link
It was wonderful to know that the prayer for reconciliation, healing & protection was being said by so many at once...possibly more powerful for the number of voices.
Patrice, this was already the second one, so keep your eyes open on these threads. I would hope it would happen again (and again?)...There were over 400 (I think) the first time, and over 500 the second time!
I also think any of us who want to continue to use this prayer at various times will still be helping others and ourselves, a lot.
MANY MANY THANKS TO THE ORGANIZER!!!
And, PLEASE, SCHEDULE MORE.
Patrice, if you can't still get to the link, ask here again...maybe someone can copy it in here for you.

I am starting to worry about PA.
The media has totally missed the Clinton taxes and are back at Obama again.
We need to push the media to investigate those taxes in a big way. We cannot allow the media to help Hillary rally again. Time to call, call, call, knock, knock, knock and keep the media honest.
The Bill columbian story is bigger then they are making it, the taxes are bigger and we need to let the media know they are not investigating and vetting.

More than the taxes the whole CAFTA issue. What the heck, can you imagine if it was Obama and Michelle had a stake in soemthing like that? Our campaign would blow wide open, HRC just swipes it under the carpet and it is supposed to go away, oh, that doesn't matter and won't affect us.
Where are the unions, the outrage with the American people? Are we going to have to endure more Clinton Scandals more smears and sneers at our nation at from their cost, do we want more McBush and isn't it time for change, for hope, for my brothers keeper not my cronism is bigger and badder than yours and BTW i dirt on you and you better not say anything bad against me because I will crush you like a bug? If that is the case then you must have gotten dirty too... but then we know where the dirty hands are and where they have been.
Can we claim America again, We the People? Can we take it back from the families that have run it, thought they own it and feel entitled to it?
BTW, since when do we coronate a queen, HRC was self coronated, and I say We the People let her know, we are the ones who count, we claim our own destiny, and will not be railroaded by their greed, power hungry ways and pals, we want jobs, healthcare, future for our children and grandchildren, a better conciousness and greener life and world, we are stewards of the constitution, of this world and will not give it up.. you might take it to the convention, but we take our stewardship and responsibility seriously, and will fight for it and for those who come after us, for the next generations, 1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 6, 7 and on generations, it is not for us but for them we fight, we aren't greedy, we are filled with hope and desire, we will win, in more ways then one.

CLINTON DENIES REPUDIATION. Washington (Rooters), April 9.
Denying earlier denials of a repudiation of denunciations she denied making last week, New York Senator and Democratic presidential aspirant Hillary Clinton denied today that her earlier repudiation of her previous position amounted to a flip-flop on her denunciation of her past statements. "I have been consistent on this issue throughout the campaign," Senator Clinton announced in a hastily called news conference. "My position is clear, and let me just state for the record that I deny any reports that I have repudiated the denunciation of any previous denials issued by this campaign. My goal, as always, is to find real solutions to America's problems."
In campaign headquarters in Pittsburgh, spokesperson Harry Icky later amplified her remarks. "There can be no doubt that Senator Clinton's denunciation of the denials she rejected last week demonstrate her clear commitment to help all Americans put food on the table and pay the electric bill. She knows what it's like to be homeless and hungry and a wounded war veteran. She's worked the late shift. She's been a single mother whose house was foreclosed. And she is determined to find solutions. "
Democratic rival Illinois Senator Barack Obama, speaking at a gathering in Malvern, PA that included among its members an illegal immigrant ex-felon drug addict rap musician with dreadlocks, ignored Senator Clinton's denial and focused instead on his trademark themes of change & hope, turning the page, and not this time. Random passerby Kyle McNulty expressed his view of the presidential contest. "I don't give a [expletive] who the [expletive] the [expletive] president. We're all [expletive] anyway, so who gives a [expletive]?"
Around the corner at Starbucks, a group of college students slurped down latte coffees and gushed about Senator Obama's speech. "Actually, he's sort of like, you know, a god or something," said Robert Michaels, 19, through unkempt locks of shoulder-length hair. "Sort of like, you know, Tlaloc the rain god of the Aztecs." His roommate Tiffany Beaconhill, 20, wearing cut-off blue-jean shorts and a tank-top shirt, agreed. "Oh I just love him so much, he's just the most wonderful thing ever!" she said, wiggling her toes. The Aztecs, rulers of a vast empire in Mexico before the Spanish conquest, rejected Christianity. Asked about Senator Clinton's denial, Michaels said "I know so many things, but I don't know about that."

We are 16-15-14 days away from Pennsylvania. This campaign has thus far raised about twice as much as The Other campaign. But we’ve got to keep going, we must finish this thing off. There are many ways to support this campaign, one way is to give. The list totals $11,703-$11,653-$11,613 right now. I challenge this blog and this camping to knock off these 10-9 names by the Pennsylvania primary.
Mama For Obama has been sitting at the top of the list for a while, as you can see. She’s slowly meeting her goal. I feel like there is someone out there who reads all the blogs, kind of sitting on the sideline waiting for an opportunity to give. This could be it. Is there someone who can give the maximum $2300, or close to that?
The Top Ten List:

She made her page on Jan 17 in honor of Future First Lady Michelle Obama's birthday, the “#1 mama”. $4491-$4476-$4471-$4461-$4351- $4326-$4276-$4256-$4241-$4191- $4166-$4141-$4116-$4106-$4096- $4071-$4046-$3996-$3971-$3951- $3926-$3876-$3861-$3836-$3586- $3576-$3481-$3456-$3431-$3421- $3396-$3346-$3261-$3036-$3000- $2990-$2980

With all do respect I watch the show. Not on all occasions is Joe unreasonable. There are many times where I have heard him speak well of Obama and actually see the light on many issues. One in particular was on the war today.

I believe Joe is lucky. Not smart.
He is a brown noser at best. He's dishonest, racist and cannot see beyond his own backyard or pat Buchanan's for that matter.
He contradicts himself all the time and he has a scandalous past with a woman being found dead in his office.
" Lori Klausutis
Lori Klausutis, age 28, was found dead behind a desk in the offices of US Representative Joe Scarborough of Florida, a Republican, on July 20, 2001. Death was apparently due to a blow on the head. Claims that a heart condition precipitated an accidental fall are tenuous at best; Lori was a marathon runner, and one would think that a heart condition would already have become apparent. At the time of her death, she was treasurer of her chapter of the Florida Federation of Young Republicans. Tim Klausitus, Lori's husband, worked on targeting technology for missiles. Rep. Scarborough sat on both the Military Construction and the Research and Development Subcommittees. Scarborough resigned from Congress and now hosts a Cable TV show on MSNBC."

I dried ans withered,

in a cave within,
I breathed the air and sickened,
till I turned around,
found a way out,
saw the world was different
so take each wrong,

WELCOME TO THE WHITE HOUSE MR. PRESIDENT!!!
Apr 9th 2008 at 9:46 pm EDT
If you don't want even after it is made affordable that is your choice.

How true. I was negotiating insurance for a company I worked for and it was so cost prohibitive because there were so many "older" workers.
Yet these same people have paid into the system for how many years while how many CEO's have made millions in salary, incentives or there is money like BC in PA that is in reserve that could be used to lower rates and more companies could afford insurance for employees.
As a 50 year old white woman w/o insurance, I hope something happens soon, I work, everyday, have a decent job with a young company, it is struggling, but is a good honest firm with little hope but drive and belief in the future, we want to grow, but the government is so busy outsourcing, it neglects those young entrepeneurs who are working for the american dream. That dream is a better future, not one of greed, but of stability and security.

Ok i just watched the 10 o:clock version of the Elizabeth Edwards interview on Olbermann, and I have to say there is alot of people on here overreacting. She did not rip Obama at all in fact i think she like Obama's health care plan but she really wants the Mandate, I dont agree with her but who cares and i also dont see them coming out for either candidate in the future and if they do I would bet on Obama and she is just doing a little media here to let people know that she really does want the Mandate on the insurance.

I agree, and furthermore, we're going to have to mimic Sen. Obama that we can disagree with opposition to his policy without being disagreeable. I see this as a philosophical disagreement on how best to provide coverage to those who are not covered.

Sen. Clinton's plan at second glance!
As this is the first beautiful day in New England, I should be outside playing basketball or frisbee, but I'm not. I can't. Unfortunately, almost three months ago, I injured my right ring finger, and despite several doctors appointments and hundreds of dollars, it has no signs of healing. And at this juncture, I simply cannot afford to continue paying for more specialists.
I live in Massachusetts, where by law I must purchase health insurance or get kicked out of graduate school. So instead of my state wanting to invest in me (by granting free and full insurance), it forces me to invest in insurance companies, which offer me (as if I am a car) minimum coverage. They give me just enough so that I don't get in trouble from the state, but not enough to actually cover me in the event of an accident - like a measly crooked finger. And the scariest part is that I am one of the lucky ones. I'm young and healthy, I know the system, I speak English, and I have great support from people around me.
In front of me I have a stack of insurance bills that my partner and I must pay: $365 for a routine test, $65 for a few co-pays, $20 here and $40 there, and still this doesn't include the over $2,000 for our normal student insurance bills. Beyond this, there is another, more important test, that we cannot afford to get because we owe so much in other medical bills (I'll have to wait for my go-shopping tax credit, and pray that nothing happens in the meantime)!
Even worse, the insurance that I'm forced to get is paid for 100% from student loans, which means that I will be paying for this stupid finger for the next 20 years of my life. Simply put, I have to ask you Ms. Edwards: Is this really the best we can do?
I think not.

One of the frequent bloggers "Obamacrat" emailed another blogger stating that he reported this to Headquarters and they were not aware of... what appears to be a technical glitch. I'm sure they will have it resolved soon. Think about it this campaign has grown by leaps and bounds, not only do Supporters of this "movement for change" come here and post and lurk, but apparently others. So perhaps the heavy traffic and additional material that is posted here has caused some kind of technical meltdown. Stay tuned...

NEW YORK — Experience is central to Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton’s presidential bid, and Wednesday night she tapped one of pop music’s most venerable rockers to help fill her campaign coffers with $2.5 million.
Elton John, who has sold records and filled arenas for four decades, played a benefit concert for Clinton at Radio City Music Hall.
“I’ve always been a Hillary supporter,” John, 61, said before launching into his 1970 breakthrough hits, “Your Song” and “Border Song.” “There is no one more qualified to lead America.”
The English singer, composer and pianist added: “I’m amazed by the misogynistic attitudes of some of the people in this country. And I say to hell with them …. I love you Hillary, I’ll be there for you.”
The cheapest tickets, $125 and $250, sold out quickly, campaign aides said. The other seats were filled by fans paying as much as $2,300, the limit for an individual’s contribution to a federal candidate.
Preceding John on stage were Clinton, her husband, former President Clinton, and their daughter, Chelsea.
Hillary Clinton struck a defiant, underdog note in describing her battle against Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois.
“What I want you to know is I’m still standing, and I believe this country is worth fighting for,” the New York senator said, playing off the title of one of John’s hits. “So we’re taking our campaign to Pennsylvania and all the states that haven’t voted.” Pennsylvania votes April 22.
The Clintons have hobnobbed with Hollywood and music industry figures for years. In 1998, John performed at a White House State Dinner the couple hosted for then-British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
Last October, Clinton celebrated her 60th birthday with a fundraiser at New York’s Beacon Theater that featured actor Billy Crystal and musicians Elvis Costello and the Wallflowers. It netted more than $1.5 million for her presidential effort.

ok, they're mine, but still. pictured in the slideshow is my daughter maya (age 4), awestruck as she shakes hands. barack talked to her about his sister, also named maya. she loved that. we met him at the beginning of the store; on the way out, he waved to her and said "goodbye maya!". very kind that he remembered her name.
and the two year old is charlie, my son. charlie was chanting, "yes we can" the whole car ride home. (though at times, he mixed in the bob the builder lyrics too). he also keeps telling people "i saw bawack obama at the grocery store". i am in trouble the next time we go shopping!

Barack Obama for President
Let's take a closer look at who's really qualified and or who's really working for the good of all of us in the Senate, Obama or Clinton?
The records of these two candidates should be scrutinized in order to make an informed decision.
Senator Clinton, who has served only one full term -6yrs. and another year campaigning, has managed to author and pass into law 20 pieces of legislation in her first six years. These bills can be found on the website of the Library of Congress www.thomas.loc.gov, but to save you the trouble, I'll post them here for you.
1. Establish the Kate Mullany National Historic Site.
2. Support the goals and ideals of Better Hearing and Speech Month.
3. Recognize the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
4. Name courthouse after Thurgood Marshall.
5. Name courthouse after James L. Watson.
6. Name post office after Jonn A. O'Shea.
7. Designate Aug. 7, 2003, as National Purple Heart Recognition Day.
8. Support the goals and ideals of National Purple Heart Recognition Day.
9. Honor the life and legacy of Alexander Hamilton on the bicentennial of his death.
10. Congratulate the Syracuse Univ. Orange Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.
11. Congratulate the Le Moyne College Dolphins Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.
12. Establish the 225th Anniversary of the American Revolution Commemorative Program.
13. Name post office after Sergeant Riayan A. Tejeda.
14. Honor Shirley Chisholm for her service to the nation and express condolences on her death.
15. Honor John J. Downing, Brian Fahey, and Harry Ford, firefighters who lost their lives on duty. Only five of Clinton 's bills are, more substantive.
16. Extend period of unemployment assistance to victims of 9/11.
17. Pay for city projects in response to 9/11
18. Assist landmine victims in other countries.
19. Assist family caregivers in accessing affordable respite care.
20. Designate part of the National Forest System in Puerto Rico as protected in the wilderness preservation system.
There you have it, the fact's straight from the Senate Record.

Now, I would post those of Obama, but the list is too substantive, so I'll mainly categorize his contributions.
During the first - 8 - eight years of his elected service he sponsored over 820 bills. He introduced
233 regarding healthcare reform
125 on poverty and public assistance
112 crime fighting bills
97 economic bills
60 human rights and anti-discrimination bills
21 ethics reform bills
15 gun control
6 veterans affairs and many othersïÂ&iq uest;½
His first year in the U.S. Senate, he authored 152 bills and co-sponsored another 427.
These included
**The Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006 - became law,
**The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act, - became law,
**The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act, passed the Senate,
**The 2007 Government Ethics Bill, - became law,
**The Protection Against Excessive Executive Compensation Bill, In committee, and many more.
In all, since entering the U.S. Senate, Senator Obama has written 890 bills and co-sponsored another 1096.
An impressive record, for someone who supposedly has no record according to some who would prefer that this comparison not be made public. He's not just a talker. He's a doer.
Pass it on....It's impressive
Have a GREAT DAY!
Pass it on!

I run a blog that compiles pretty much every major news article and commentary that comes out each day about Senator Obama. My hope is that it's a useful tool for those who want to keep up with everything going on in the campaign. I also contribute my own commentary as well.
I hope this is helpful to everyone.
